Pagan Moonotheism and the Kaaba: exploring the origins of Islam (livestream with Lloyd de Jongh)

- Lloyd joined me live to continue our exploration into the origins and precursors to Islam. In this episode we continue looking at pre-Islamic Arabian pagan gods and goddesses, with a special eye towards the origins of the Kaaba. After the presentation, Alonzo Harris was given a chance to make a presentation on the apostle Paul, being chickened out and failed to show (despite posting under another name in the live comments).
The traditional history of Islam is flawed. It was written centuries after Muhammad lived, edited, cleaned, and has continued to develop right up until present times. Thus, most Muslims learn a fairy tale that has almost nothing to do with actual history. In recent years, historians have been quietly working to discover the truth, tucked away in institutions and research journals, safe from jihadi threats.
The academic work is beginning to filter down to the public. Most discussion on it has focused on northern antecedents to Islam, painting an incomplete picture. This video continues our series completing the picture by bringing to light the southern influences of Islam.

Textual criticism is just about which wording was original. It is Ehrman's professional specialty, but very little of what he says in public talks is actually related to textual criticism. As such, I am a little unclear about what you are looking for. Do you want a general apologetics resource that covers a variety of topics, something on "tough passages" specifically (there are resources devoted solely to that, or something else?

Brother Thaddeus (and Lloyd), all these findings and presentations are so valuable and worth spreading and sharing. It will make these presentations more shareable on social media if they can broken into shorter episodes of a series. Like what Jay, al Faldo, Thomas Alexander do… I had tried to share these videos on my social media at debate groups….I think because of the lengthy of the presentation, it did not get many people’s interest to watch it. Nowadays, most people tend to have a shorter attention span….

Your explanation about the connection to Allah and a moon deity is really clear and coherent. But can you reconcile the fact that Abraham in the Koran rejects the moon and the sun as God? Is this perhaps a later verse that was copied from the Jews. I have a collection of Jewish fairy tales that contains exactly this story
Now that i think about it. Islam is pure syncretism. Maybe it‘s Based on pagan moon worship. But Muhammad „the ear“ Mixed everything in His own Religion that he Could get his hands on. Seems Like he was influenced By every Religion surrounding him making his own. Syncretism in it‘s purest form

Very interesting. Just to clarify, Monday isn't the first day of creation. In Islam, creation begins on a Saturday (perhaps a subtle polemic against the Jewish Sabbath).

1:10:30 Apostolic Christianity, considers itself a continuation of the one religion of Adam. Judaism after Christ is a schematic movement which is reconstituted in Babylon with the Talmud.
So Adriano's comment isn't accurate. There is only one religion with many Rites/sects that worships the Godhead.
