Hey I sprayed about two weeks ago. A lot of the weeds turned white. And some didn’t change at all. Should I hit it again with another coat? Please any help you can give me
That back yard has the most amazing view ever. So jealous of you mountain men lol. I'm sitting here in Wisconsin with the most boring topo map you've ever seen :D With regard to the lawn, this one should be fun to see the final outcome. I think it has a worse weed problem than me, which gives me some confidence that I'll be able to whip my lawn into shape since I have the budget planned for it this year. I battled most of the broadleaf weeds last year to great success, I just put down my pre em this morning, and we are getting an afternoon shower right now, couldn't have been more perfect timing on that! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the herbacide, great idea mixing the tenacity.
If you like the view of the buildings nearby.. the view of the mountain peaks are nice.. but I would have to move due to the buildings ruining the views.
Great videos Ginga! Wichita, Kansas here and needed some great advice for a customer’s lawn. I’ve been trying for years to get him to let me fix his troubled lawn and finally he said YES! Just found your channel and it was perfect timing! Thanks for the entertaining vids! Keep up the great work! Btw thanks for the beautiful views!
Cheryl, look up on Google - Lawn Care Academy and there is some great info for various types of grasses and lawn care. It's a great starting point for beginners (which definitely includes me) and you can find exactly what you're looking for in concise information packages. I've read almost every page, and now I'm also the newest subscriber to this channel because this Ginja guy is one of the only long-winded guys on TH-cam that fills the air time with more useful information versus useless chatter, which I appreciate. There's not much I hate more on TH-cam than someone posting a 20 minute video with about 5 minutes worth of information. I've seen about half a dozen of the Ginja videos and I'm learning a lot, and he keeps the useless chatter to a minimum from what I've seen thus far.
I am almost ready to use the 8 Oz bottle I bought. I was searching vids just an hour ago looking for a proper mixing ratio. You da man! Thanks for all your help and links you sent me! So excited for Spring here in Ohio!!!
Looking forward to seeing this lawn makeover. Looking to start my own lawn makeover this year (seeding in the fall). I’ve been told by one company that if you have less than 50% grass they suggest killing off everything in yard with a non-selective herbicide like glyphosate and starting over from seed after tilling.
Great video Ginja. I'm a Ginja myself located in Western Wash, and really value your input because of your more western location which has similar timing to my climate. I used Tenacity with Speed Zone just over 2 weeks ago, and have seen no adverse effects. Funny story, I'm new to lawn care even though I'm an old Ginja, and after seeing your Fall video I used Tenacity on a back yard where I knew I had some grassy weed issues. Imagine my surprise when 3 weeks later 70% of the area had turned white because there were so many weeds!! Killed the rest and putting in a new lawn this season.. :-)
Thanks awesome Ralph!!!! Shocked you used speed zone as well hahaha. Great minds think alike. It's fun seeing the weeds and grasses go white. Little scary too hahaha.
I just hit the order button on Amazon. Getting Tenacity and Speed Zone. I too overseeded in the fall and i'm now seeing some weird weeds i have never seen before on my lawn.
Dont forget the non ionic surfactant. Wait to apply so we can be sure theres no adverse reaction to the speedzone. I dont anticipate any after reading the label but let me be the Guinea pig ; )
I have been able to spray and pray with Tenacity. I do get a little white on my Tall Fescue but like dye on hair it grows out and then gets cut off. It's some amazing stuff.
@Pest and Lawn Ginja hey man, thanks a lot for uploading this one. It came right on time for me! Before actually asking you what I need to know I just wanted to thank you for your last season's advice. I did a water test and it turned out that all the bare and yellowish areas on my lawn perfectly matched some spots with poor irrigation! Now, back to the point, about two weeks ago my lawn started to come out of dormancy. So I decided to mow it as soon as I noticed some areas were getting tall enough, after which I gave it a boost with some spring fertilizer, plus I overseeded with Tall Fescue (the kind of grass is predominant on my lawn, the other one is KBG). So far so good, except for the fact that even though the lawn is getting greener and greener every day, I now have a whole bunch of weeds (95% clover and 2-3% dandelion)!!!!!!! My question is, should I go ahead and use our equivalent to Tenacity (2 4 D - it covers both clover and dandelion)? This considering that I overseeded 8 days ago and I have not even one sprout yet and the fact that I don't even know for how long I should not water the lawn after applying "tenacity" and this could potentially mess up my watering schedule to keep the seeds moist. I'm literally going nuts every morning seeing how the clover is thriving and suffocating my poor tall fescue! Thanks a lot!
Unfortunately you'll need to hand weed. No herbicide including tenacity for 90 days from the time you put the seed down. You don't want to stress the germination. I've seen fescue germinate in 10 days and bluegrass in 3 to 5 weeks. Just pick 10 weeds everyone you go it the door.
@@pestandlawnginja Really thanks for clearing that out for me. I've seen other people recommending the use of tenacity even on newly seeded grass but I've always been sceptical about using any kind of herbicide on such fragile stage for the grass.
@@pestandlawnginja So, let's say I manage to spot spray some of the bigger weeds. After they finally die, will I be able to dig them out without compromising my new grass or without making my lawn look like a war zone? 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for the education. I have subscribed and hope to learn more from you. We spent too much money last year to get nothing to come back this year. We live in Northeast Kansas. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
You know it's kinda funny how people don't understand how much knowledge is needed in the trades. My career started out as a laborer in construction. I then became a plumber, then maintenance director and finally an IT Director in charge of 3 physical servers and 18 virtual servers and all the things associated with running an enterprise network. Along with some 600 workstations, printers, and the rest of the ancillary equipment. I have had the opportunity to work with a vast array of individuals with different educational backgrounds. Hell, my sister has 2 master and a Ph.D. The knowledge is different, the amount is not that different. It's a different subject matter. Much like talking with a real estate agent would provide a different set of criteria for their trade. IT'S JUST DIFFERENT KNOWLEDGE. My friend your knowledge is astounding. I hate to say it might be under-appreciated by some fools, but it none the less, extraordinarily One of the issues I had was buying the fertilizers and doing it myself, it was actually more costly than hiring a service. The other problem was, hiring a service wasn't reliable. They would not show up at the intervals that promote good lawn care. I actually fired two companies because of this. You have given me hope that maybe I can do this.
Thanks for the love! appreciate it. I have learned soo much over the last 18 years. It is difficult to find a trusting company these days. I can appreciate your concern. It gets frustrating to say the least.
Thank you yet again. I walk too fast, just hard wired that way. Gotta learn to chill and dance along like the Ginja. Until then I focus on getting the label rate of product onto the correct sqft of turf by adjusting my amount of water. 1200 sqft = one gallon of spray for me.
You can turn the sprayer on and shoot it back into the opening to get agitation. I noticed this helps with some of those WDG that take a little longer to mix up than a simple “shake and bake”.
Pest and Lawn Ginja I have the same sprayer so I know the hose and wand are long enough. I do wish there was an option to self agitate so you could let it turn while doing other tasks. Unfortunately I can’t find this in a DIY grade electronic backpack sprayer.
Hey Man, from Colorado and I am trying to get my backyard into shape and I have heard nothing but good things about Tenacity. I'll order some tomorrow and I have some compact soil issues as well I'm working on to get my bluegrass going again.
I’m in northern Indiana, I put tenacity down for the first time 10 days ago. My nutsedge, crabgrass and other assorted broadleaf weeds are turning nice and white. I can’t believe how little of that stuff will kill so much. I used laser dye in my mixture to make sure I had good coverage. My next step is the second application after my 3rd dethatch of the year, then a heavy aeration, followed by an overseed topped with some peat moss. My lawns going to look ridiculous next year!
Well. Never mind. Thanks for your reply. I eventually would have discovered that before my purchase but now I can start planning a different direction. Thanks!
Here in lower Michigan, for the first time ever, I had a lot of large bare spots in the early spring. In those spots was a woody fine stems. I pulled those tufts of stems but couldn't get them all. Turns out they were spurge stems, and soon enough they came alive and filled in. Then as it seems almost overnite the entire lawn turned to crabgrass. I lost all my dark green grass to light green fully thick crabgrass. I absolutely hate it, but it's all uniform crabgrass. One part of me says to attack it with dynamite sticks, the other part says, well at least it filled in consistently, and it's green. We live on 4 acres, and now it's fully crabgrass. We don't have an irrigation system, and always bragged we do nothing to the grass, and it looks great, as it mostly was Kentucky bluegrass, some rye, fesque, with mixed in weeds, but when it was mowed it looked great. Now we are in crabgrass up to our... well butts! If I spray Tenacity twice almost 100% of the lawn is lost. How did crabgrass take such q quick hold on the lawn? It seemed like just a few weeks that we were taken over.
I'm In Indiana Thanks for your videos man Big help I have my grass looking good from watching your videos Thanks man Spray on my friend keep up the great work
Super nice video with some slick 90s dance tune 👍here in ireland we don't have tenacity that I'm aware of... I do use Dicophar for broad leaf on the lawn...Your rocking it hope your busy making the next one 😁👌👍
Heya, Ginga! Perfect timing! I'm in North Idaho, about two weeks behind your weather. I watched your other vud-joes with this lawn not two days ago, and was thinking it's about time for an update. If your ears were ringing, blame me. So, are you spraying the tenacity this time for pre-emergent? Will it be watered in? I'm assuming that's the case because of the other stuff you put on the lawn. Quick tip I saw somewhere else....putting that thick goo into a bottle or jug with some water makes it easy to start mixing before it goes into the sprayer. Another great job from the Ginga! Thanks.
Heard you loud and clear tin! I put down the tenacity as a foliar and it will be watered in this week by the rain. Per the label we have 10 days to water it in. Tenacity challenge baby!
This is my second year using tenacity. Have had great results in upstate south carolina. But requires more than one application. Use as a pre emergent and post emergent. Used Barenbrug RPR ryegrass and SPF 30 hybrid bluegrass blend applied in the fall. Folks, if you want to beat the weeds give them a chance, when you over seed put down seed, lots of seed, over power the weed seeds.if you want a great lawn. Mine looks like a rug now, I cut the grass long 3.5 inches and use lesco products from Site One, no I am not affiliated with them but they have great products, prices and service.. And keep your mower blades sharp, real sharp . A great lawn requires a continuous education, lots of money and time. It is a journey not a destination.
A little hint to get the right spray coverage… I downloaded a Metronome app onto my phone… And after some trial and error, I set it to 82 and take a small step at every tic…. With my sprayer held at 2 feet above the ground with the wide spray tip, I get exactly 1 gallon per 1000 ft.² virtually every time. I use a DeWalt pump sprayer with the brown tip, which has a spray of about 40 inches wide. I filled it up with 2 gallons of solution and I literally run out at 2000 ft.² almost religiously.
If I want to overseed bermuda with rye in fall can I use tenacity to kill of some weeds at same time. I know it's not supposed to be used on Bermuda but since it's going dormant will it be ok?
Aussie First😁. Great information on treating the lawn. Thanks for sharing.👍👍PPE lovers doesn’t include that Moustache Wearing Mountain man from Utah does it ?
Awesome, you know your stuff. I actually sell the products your using. One of the things I stress to my landscapers, is calibrate, calibrate, calibrate!!! That, and PPE. I use the Tenacity, myself. I have a severe case of “creeping bent grass”. Applied 3 times as per label instructions, spaced 10 days apart. It appears to be coming back along the edges of my lawn, and a few areas in the center. I used blue dye to assure good coverage. (Fall of 2018). Looks like I’ll be at it again. Sure does take a lot of work keeping your lawn looking nice. Looking forward to moving out of the PNW and down south to AZ. 2 more years, and I can say goodbye to lawns. Anyway, thanks for your educational videos, really good stuff.
Just found your channel it’s really good .?i put down Pro diamine today. I am from Rochester New York and I we be looking forward to your next post I am a LawnCareNut but you are just as good keep up the good work bro
Man what an awesome view at that home. I'm here because I'm trying to figure out what I need that mixes well with other chemicals and I won't be waisting my money. It's all so confusing to me. I live in Louisiana and I'm looking to kill large amount of clover and other basic weeds. What's a good plan off attack. The grass looks weak and it's a newly established neighborhood (few years old). Willing to try anything
Great video!!! Was just wondering what’s with all the waving back and forth with the wand. So much over spraying....Why don’t you just use a fan tip nozzle and follow the grid from the mower. Use a fan tip that sprays the width of your mower lines and just follow that. You’ll actually use less product and be way more accurate. Anyway great info.....
Thanks for the advice. I've been a certified techician for 17 years. The overlap technique I'm doing is far better and accurate than the spray and pray you guys do with the dye. The problem with your idea is that one way or another there is overlap. If you do it your way you'll have a nice 2" to 6" line that has more product than every where else. Pays to overlap properly and get your equipment calibrated and understand the pace. Using less product makes no sense. If you use less product you won't have an effective herbicide, use too much and you potentially burn. Stay on pace my friend.
Great video - Okay - After I kill all the weeds, what is the next step - Assuming my lawn is level etc - top soil/sand? and also put whatever type of grass i want - Perrenial rye, kentucky blue etc?? thanks!
Ginja!! Just the video I need, temps getting warm here in PA and I need to find a way to bring some life into my brown yard. And have to get ahead of a major grub problem I found out last fall (thanks to your vids!). I’m trying to find a good supplier in my area for fertilizers and but in a bind can I use those fancy marketed home improvement store brands until I find something else? Please keep the videos coming!
Pest and Lawn Ginja thanks for the great content man. I'm in Maryland and my yard is primarily TTTF. Finally got my Tenacity in the mail due to C19. I'm afraid to use Tenacity at this point in the season. I'm planning to aerate and seed in the fall with TTTF and Rye grass. I also plan to overseed in the spring next year but the weeds have really taken over my yard it's very green and extremely neat looking but a closer look shows clover and lots of other unwanted weeds. My question to you is should I treat with tenacity before the aeration or wait until spring.
For everyone that loves this video and how good this stuff works, go to your local Ag retailer (Coop or something similar) and ask for a gallon jug of Callisto or Explorer. Literally the exact same thing but you can buy a gallon of Explorer for the price of the 8oz Tenacity.
Pest and Lawn Ginja we have tons of customers that use Callisto and Explorer on their lawns. I wouldn’t go off of the Tenacity label in most cases if you’re using for pre emerge spraying. We usually go at least a TBSP per gallon and I think the label says half teaspoon.
beautiful! I thought it looked like northern Utah. Did a lot of camping and travelling around those parts. Not necessarily that area but a lot of Utah, Colorado, and Arizona (4 corners) Thanks again for sharing
Ginja, what spray nozzle are you using on your Chapin? Also, is there an advantage to the back and forth wand movement vs. holding the wand stationary while spraying? Thanks! Enjoying your channel!
I like to di a wet edge and feather the spray to give proper overlap. I use the cone vs fan. The fan wasn't allowing the thicker concentrate to come out smoothly.
It looks like yellow wood sorrell, or yellow oxalis. Both names (as well as the weed) are pretty common here in MI. It's Sept. and I'm doing reno with extensive lawn problems. Stump grindings pulled out a few weeks ago (sifted with a 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch wire screen on a 5 ft x 2 1/2 ft wood frame) tip the frame at about 45 -50 degrees and dirt falls through chunks and anything bigger stays up front to get pushed away to the mulched areas. Just aerated and gonna scalp it as short as my nearly bald head, bringing it down the past couple weeks. Now that the weather has cooled a bit, I think the tenacity challenge is on here. I've got an overseeder to scarify since the front is about 4800 + 2000 ft^2 in back. Just rained today so I'm going out tomorrow... with tenacity seed and a bit of pete moss top dress. I'll be putting starter fert in about 5-7 days. Gonna read tenacity label and watch a few more vids... and get the app rate /pace right. Thanks for the entertaining way you teach. (ps loved the wonder woman-ish spin into PPE.)
Thanks Paul! It was a fun little series. we get a lot of oxalis here and that chunky woody bit is a cousin but not the same. I found the name and for the life of me remember what it is. Sounds like you have a solid reno plan. glad to hear you're out there slayin lawns!
I sprayed Tenacity on my front yard as a pre emergent, because I have some area's that I reseeded. I've noticed some spots that are turning lighter in color. I'm guessing those area's are some strange species of grass. Will those spots come back in time or should I reseed those also? Thanks, Tom
I recall you mentioning that about Tenacity. I do have a question if you don’t mind? From what I gather with Bluegrass, I can only put enough Prodiamine (about 2lbs. per 1000) to get me around four months of protection. Any suggestions about what to do with that gap in coverage?
What’s the name of the woody weed you talked about? I have the same in my yard in west Provo. And how did you get rid of it. I have Tenacity which I think has helped but the weed keeps coming back.
Lawn Ginga how soon after mowing should I put down a application if tenacity? I got my bootleg and surfactant. I plan on mowing today. Should I put it down after or wait a few days?
Hi Ginja, Great channel and information thanks for sharing! :) I live in Denmark (Northern Europe) and am redoing my lawn after having had builders destroy it with heavy equipment. We can't hire aerators in Denmark (Just dethatchers)so I would love to hear any other alternatives to aerating a lawn. Also I was thinking of leveling some very uneven areas of the lawn with some extra topsoil I have, should I remove the existing turf or is it not necessary?
Remove the turf for sure. Ultimately it will start molding. As for your lawn. Make a compost tea and start increasing carbon. Quickest way to fix a lawn. Love you guys from Denmark!
I have a couple of questions o great sage! Can I safely throw down 12 12 12 after putting down a crabgrass/fertilizer? Can I throw down humic any time of the growing season? Prodiamine is going down this week! Checked my ground temps and they just finally reached 55 - 60 degrees here in Michigan. I thought I still had a bag of prodiamine left but have to order it, hopefully a few days wont hurt me.
Is it advisable to directly mix herbicides before adding to the water in the tank? I thought it was advised to add one at a time, mix, and then add the next.
I've neglected my fescue lawn for a year or so and really getting into making it look great from here out. I have a pro annua infestation in my fescue. Lots of it. Being it's April now, what should I do now to treat it? I'm seeing that killing it in fescue is not possible without killing the good grass. Thoughts/suggestions? (North Carolina btw!)
@@pestandlawnginja is that true? I'm in Salt Lake and have been calling my most hated weed enemy, creeping charlies. Are they creeping daniels? Ivy like weeds that have white flowers.
Hello again, i have a grass that came up in my new lawn; not quack has no rizones, leaves are smooth both direction only wrapping around the shaft half way, seeds are tight to the shaft with hairs and what look like six seeds on each side of the shaft and over 26 clusters. how do i determine what tribe this grass is and will tenacity and/or 24d control this in my lawn; and is there a chart and way to identify this weed grass. Thank You, Brian
Worked awesome for weeds, Thank you, My new seeds seem to be sprouting white instead of green though, Is there something that can be done or is it doom? Thank you for any help.
Great video as usual Ginja! Your knowledge and content rocks! I'm from Atlanta, GA and the daytime temps are mid 60s-mid 70's. I had put down an application of Lesco 19 0 7 Dimension on my annual ryegrass on February 1. As it is ending it's life cycle I core aerated yesterday pulling 3-4" cores and then applied Lesco 18 24 12 starter fert with Titan RX TTTF seed. I realize I risk not having a great germination rate with approx 8 weeks after Pre M treatment, but just wanted your opinion on what I've done thus far? I had 1/2" - 3/4" rain last night after applying the starter fert and 4 lbs of TTTF seed per 1K. Thank you for ALL your informative and entertaining videos. It's evident you know what you're doing! Love your channel! Happy subscriber in GA!
Your results will be spotty. It was a good idea to aerate for sure. Fingers crossed the water you received will wash out the residual dimension. Overall I think it'll work.
To get "desirable effects" its best to use Tenacity in several applications depending on the condition of the lawn obvious. Space 2-4 weeks out between each application.
Hi from New Hampshire. This time last year we brought in all new loam and hydroseeded. By the end of the summer, we had a full crop of crabgrass! We want to reseed but also want to get control over the crabgrass. We're thinking (after watching your very informative video) that we should first apply Tenacity (pre-emergent) and then new seed. If that is correct, how long after apply Tenacity can we put new seed down and can we rough up the soil? We were thinking of applying a 2nd coat of Tenacity a few weeks after the seeding. Help!
I would do two rounds tenacity then seed. The label doesnt suggest applying tenacity after newly germinated seed has formed for about three months if memory serves me right.
Thatched the lawn heavily then reseeded last year. The lawn looks great this spring except for the poa anual in spots. Should I be treating the whole lawn annually early spring and late fall with Tenacity to keep in weed free?
I only use tenacity for curative post emergent or pre emergent for overseeding. For preventive poa I use dithiopyr or prodiamine pre emergents early spring before the ground temps reach 50 degrees
Thanks for all your help I did my 3way app last week starting to see the results via wilting. I am planning to do a spot spray follow up within a week or so. Should I go with the same rate as my broadcast rate of 1.5perK or go with the lower 1.1perK rate since the spray would be more concentrated? Anything the 3way doesn’t touch I have tenacity (generic) to tackle via spot spray as well. Hoping to have all my spraying done by end of April beginning of May that’s when my second round of pre m is going down to. Knoxville TN. Thanks First found your channel by researching tenacity can’t wait to see this lawn in the coming weeks for the green up.
LTD! Thanks for commenting. Great questions. I commonly go inbetween the high and the low when I broadcast. Some lawns I'll go the high rate when I'm not worried about tip burn, which goes away in a few weeks anyway. Calibration is key to everything. If you are all calibrated and not afraid of some tip burn go for it.
Yes you helped me get calibrated with the chapin 24v. I think if you haven’t done one yet a video on what is proper cover for spraying would be greatly useful. I don’t know if my broadcast spray is too heavy or light. Meaning light mist or full foliage cover. Thanks for your help again.
Enjoy the videos what precautions do you use with bushes and trees in the vicinity. I see in the videos you are spraying relatively closely to bushes. Was wondering how hazardous that could be thanks.
As long as you don't spray it directly on the bushes and are careful not to spray when its windy you'll do just fine. I have yet to kill anything with tenacity other than the weeds.
Hey Ginga,in Knoxville tn,yard is a mess with weeds.should I mow with a bag first then treat ?have broad leaf to dialysis grass .trying for Ttf only. Thanks
I would research and find a rhizomatous tall fescue species. Barenbrug makes one. I would also do a soil test to figure out why weeds are thriving. You most likely have an imbalance.
Here in Oklahoma, all the grass is Bermuda. It would be impossible to change it out to a different variety of grass. Are there any other grasses I can put with Bermuda to have a greener lawn in the winter time? I doubt there is. Bermuda goes dormant in the winter so in some yards there is a mixture of green grass and dormant brown Bermuda.
I just ordered tenacity for the first time... i live in Tacoma Washington and we are pushing 70+ degrees now. is that too hot to apply tenacity? I also ordered liquid chelated iron. i was hoping i might be able to do both at the same time? i'm trying to kill some crab & dandelions. I haven't used Scotts for 2 weeks so i think i should be good? for some reason this is the first time in 7 years that i've had mushrooms start popping up everywhere also...
Thank you for the great video. I’m in the Northern Ca. foothills of the western Sierras. I’m looking to use this product to stop crab grass growth. We just bought this house, and it was in serious need of thatching. I finished the thatching yesterday and will be doing some core aeration to get the soil ready. Should I wait until Fall to over-seed, or do you think I can manage to seed in the first weeks of March?
It's all about the soil temps. I prefer to seed early spring or early fall. Just know you will deal with some weed issues. Tenacity is a great product for these types of projects. I would do an app asap and then do a second app with the over seed 10 to 14 days later. Then do another app 6 weeks after
Any suggestions for a common "Big box" Organic Soil Enhancer? Everything I see is more catered to gardens/potted plants. Not seeing anything out there that is more designed for lawns. Much appreciated!!
I recommend the compacture cure by next products. its a spray on though and the only thing available to ship direct. shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1275231&u=2147196&m=84126&urllink=https%3A%2F%2Fyardmastery%2Ecom%2Fcollections%2Fbest%2Dselling%2Fproducts%2Fcompaction%2Dcure&afftrack=
spot spraying weeds in the flower beds is always tricky because any herbicide will cause damage to plants if it touches or gets over spray. I use t-zone when it's hot and speedzone when it's cooler.
If you sow Fescue seed but can not spray the Tenacity for several days, is that ok. Seems to me that once the fescue starts to germinate which might be 5 days of so the Tenacity would kill the Fescue. Your thoughts? Charlotte
I’m digging your show man! I’m in Oklahoma City. I’ve moved in with my daughter at her house and the year was a mess. Thinking about this Tenancity product. A bit problem we have I think is the clay soil. I could just dig it all up and make some pottery or bricks but I don’t think the neighbors would dig that too much. What do you suggest?
Hi ninja I’ve been seeding my bare spots in the lawn with KGB July, August and the first week of September even. I’m i’m planning on a full fall aeration in a reseeding of my lawn this week. My question is when to use the tenacity? Do I put down the seed and spray the tenacity over it or spray the tenacity and then lay the seat down? Also is it OK to put Pete Moss over the tenacity and seed? Will the watering wear out the tenacity affects? Lastly will the tenacity hurt the new seedlings that are about two weeks old?
So I started a project on this called the ugly lawn project in my youtube playlist. It doesn't matter the order you put the seed down before or after the tenacity imo. I put it down after the seed just out of preference. as for the peat moss, put it down after you do all the solutions.
East Tennessee! I've tested my lawn soil and the phosphorus is consistently "Very High" (@ 209 lb/acre) so they recommend a 33-0-0 fertilizer. It's been that way for 14 years. Is there any downside to VH phosphorus and any way to bring it down?
It's a balancing act for sure. Do a search online for soil ph chart. You'll notice to achieve more balance in a strongly alkaline soil your phosphorus will be super high but nitrogen commonly low along with calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese and copper and zinc. I would have your cec's tested and focus on the low macro and miners to get more balance to the soil. I imagine your ph is really high too.
@@pestandlawnginja Thanks for the thoughtful and thorough reply! My soil test didn't include CEC and I didn't opt for the organic matter and salts tests but my pH is a neutral 6.97, P=209, K=274, Ca=6383, Mg=395, Zn=77, Fe=3, Mn=184, B=2.3, Na=18. I probably just opened a can-o-worms! Thanks.
Great video. Quick Question. I'm using Tenacity as a Post Herbicide, to kill existing Crabgrass. How long do I have to wait until I can water my lawn after I have applied the Tenacity? Thank you.
Did the challenge last year and it worked beautifully. Last week, I reseeded and also a tenacity treatment in about 70% weather. Next two days were 80%’s, so I put down like 20 bags of top soil and compost and raked it in down to the soil. Then, the next two days had an inch and a half of rain each day. Do you think the tenacity washed out, and do l need to do the tenacity again, and would it hurt the seeds l planted days before?
Great intelligent fun horror...I mean humor! Oh ya great info for I guy who hates to buy sod and lives in Utah. Thanks! I also love to spray and pray but this time I will resist!
Hi Lawn Ginja. I enjoy your channel. I have a question I am hoping you can answer. I recently used tenancty across my whole lawn to address some weeds and prevent some throughout the season. I have used it before. This time a lot of my lawn has turned white, and the white is more than just the tips, is the entirety of the grass all the way own to the roots. The majority of the lawn is good grass and I am concerned that it may be killing the good lawn. Do you think the white will go away or is it possibly killing my lawn?
Ugh just finding your video after my first application of Tenacity. I'm up in NH and just finished spraying the lawn, though my sprayer was giving me more of a mist than a spray. Should I do another application? Maybe just wait the two weeks before reapplying? Also any feedback on how bad this product is for dogs?
I'm new to your page. I had a lot of crabgrass and other weeds last year. Can I do the same Tenacity and SpeedZone mix? Or it could kill some grass? Because I don't know the kind of grass I have.
My bottle is on the way! How long should I wait to apply after use of weed & feed? Put that down before I found this stuff and I know I'll need to put more down lol.
Brother great info always, I'm in Houston, TX. I noticed Bermuda patches growing between my San Augustine, can I use tenacity or do you have any suggestions how to rid of it. Thanks in advance
The label stipulates that it's fine for sod based st Augustine. I would try a small section and go from there. You can't beat the price per 1000 sq ft.
Hey Ginga when spraying tenacity as a pre emergent are you supposed to use surfactant? I know you do for post emergents. Thanks man great videos very informative
Thanks for the great videos. How long after applying tenacity is it safe to seed the lawn? I'm reading that 2 applications of it are recommended. I'm thinking of hydroseeding or slit seeding it myself.
2 applications are highly recommended. I also recommend spacing them 10 days to 14 days apart. I commonly add a weed killer like speedzone on the first application and only tenacity on the second when I drop the grass seed down.
Hey man love the videos! I moved to UT last fall and never had to deal with lawns because I lived in AZ and had some beautiful rock landscaping(lol). I did zero preparations due to ignorance and I just cleared an insane amount of weeds from my jungle of a yard with a weed whacker, pulled as many as I could, and power raked and thatch raked the whole thing.. I still have these nasty little things that I think are weeds and I can't figure out what they are via google. It has a long shallow root system that sprouts multiple weeds maybe a couple of inches apart and the heads above ground sprout in 3-4 bunches. I don't know if that's specific enough but it blends in with the grass but it's thicker than grass and doesn't feel nice when you step on them. Does that sounds familiar? I'm trying to identify it so I can buy the proper weed killer.. Feedback would be great! Thanks for the videos I've been watching all of them in my free time haha

Hey I sprayed about two weeks ago. A lot of the weeds turned white. And some didn’t change at all. Should I hit it again with another coat? Please any help you can give me
Do you have any thing to kill cow grass root? I have tried ternacity, and round up grass and weed killer but seem it come back a week àter. Thanks
just stumbling upon the world of lawn care and you're videos are GREAT! this one def helped on understanding my sprayer and calibration.
You're welcome! I appreciate the support
That back yard has the most amazing view ever. So jealous of you mountain men lol. I'm sitting here in Wisconsin with the most boring topo map you've ever seen :D
With regard to the lawn, this one should be fun to see the final outcome.
You're welcome. It's already soo much better than it was.
I have those same thoughts when I see the views from these Utah TH-camrs. Those views are amazing.
Thanks and you're welcome cheryl!
Awesome! Good luck bro!
Yes. That's the easy route as long as you can water.
Good update. Nice to see that lawn again. You are definitely throwing it all down!
Even the kitchen sink hahaha
I just hit the order button on Amazon. Getting Tenacity and Speed Zone. I too overseeded in the fall and i'm now seeing some weird weeds i have never seen before on my lawn.
Dont forget the non ionic surfactant. Wait to apply so we can be sure theres no adverse reaction to the speedzone. I dont anticipate any after reading the label but let me be the Guinea pig ; )
@@pestandlawnginja oh yeah u are right. I forgot the non-ionic surfactant. I hold on the app.
I have been able to spray and pray with Tenacity. I do get a little white on my Tall Fescue but like dye on hair it grows out and then gets cut off. It's some amazing stuff.
Love it! It's been a fun project
I forgot to mention I live in Europe, with temperatures currently ranging from low 50's to upper 60's.
If your super careful you could spot spray herbicide.
Thanks for watching Jim! Glad I could help
I hate to say it might be under-appreciated by some fools, but it none the less, extraordinarily
One of the issues I had was buying the fertilizers and doing it myself, it was actually more costly than hiring a service.
Good stuff wade! It's all about calibration.
With that Combo of herbicides you going to see some serious results! Gonna look good once the grass really takes off. 👍🏼
I sure hope so!!! fingers crossed
I am up in Nova Scotia Canada still got awhile before soil temps are high enough checked it today 38-40 just waiting for warmer weather
Almost there!
You can turn the sprayer on and shoot it back into the opening to get agitation. I noticed this helps with some of those WDG that take a little longer to mix up than a simple “shake and bake”.
Great suggestion!
Pest and Lawn Ginja I have the same sprayer so I know the hose and wand are long enough. I do wish there was an option to self agitate so you could let it turn while doing other tasks. Unfortunately I can’t find this in a DIY grade electronic backpack sprayer.
It's true. Having a product that would agitate would be awesome
Thanks Ginja! You da man on lawn care tips!
Glad to help
Hey Man, from Colorado and I am trying to get my backyard into shape and I have heard nothing but good things about Tenacity. I'll order some tomorrow and I have some compact soil issues as well I'm working on to get my bluegrass going again.
Nice! You'll love tenacity for what it is
I’m in northern Indiana, I put tenacity down for the first time 10 days ago.
Rad! Sounds like you sprayed and slayed! Well done!
Man I love seeing my home town mountains in your videos, great work!
Thanks for watching and supporting
Great video. I’ve been looking to try tenacity myself this summer when I seed some Bermuda. Birmingham, Al and 82° today.
Unfortunately Bermuda is not a recommended use grass unless its dormant. It has the potential to cause severe damage.
Well. Never mind. Thanks for your reply. I eventually would have discovered that before my purchase but now I can start planning a different direction. Thanks!
@@markstonewall8985 your welcome! Nothing worse than lost time. Best of luck
I so don't need the music overly. Not her for a music video. Your knowledgeable content is enough to keep our attention. Keep up the great work.
thanks for the feedback.
Crabgrass is an annual grass. Must have been a high seed year for you u unfortunately
I'm In Indiana Thanks for your videos man Big help I have my grass looking good from watching your videos Thanks man Spray on my friend keep up the great work

Nice! Congrats
Super nice video with some slick 90s dance tune 👍here in ireland we don't have tenacity that I'm aware of... I do use Dicophar for broad leaf on the lawn...Your rocking it hope your busy making the next one 😁👌👍
Ireland! I may have a bit if Irish blood in me 😉 thanks for the support and watching my videos
Love this review. Well written.
I finally bought tenacity I will be putting it down today I have lots of nutsedge and clovers fingers are 🤞
you'll do great!
oh my. what a beautiful backyard view.
Thank you!
According to the label the Bermuda would need to be dormant

Thanks! Compliments like this keep me going. Had a 55 hour work week plus the video hahaha.
Thanks!!!! PPE and calibration is a BIG deal. Doesn't work if it doesn't go down correctly
Just found your channel it’s really good .?i put down Pro diamine today. I am from Rochester New York and I we be looking forward to your next post I am a LawnCareNut but you are just as good keep up the good work bro
Thanks Sam! Really appreciate you watching
Yes you can. Just analyze the n p k. I like to avoid urea as the primary source and stick with ammonium nitrates.
Pest and Lawn Ginja What about Ammoniacal Nitrogen?
@@rapfreak7797 perfectly fine.
Great video, I've always been a spray and pray kind of guy and I think that it shows in my lawn. Good information.
That's awesome! Glad to hear you found value! I have a whole video on calibration as well.
Md here too, crabgrass has taken over this year. Looking into tenacity
I would recommend using it after the aeration so the spray goes into the holes
Central Ohio. Wild violet is getting out of control. Getting ready to spray down some Triclopyr plus some tenacity.
Awesome Allen! Good luck
For everyone that loves this video and how good this stuff works, go to your local Ag retailer (Coop or something similar) and ask for a gallon jug of Callisto or Explorer. Literally the exact same thing but you can buy a gallon of Explorer for the price of the 8oz Tenacity.
Good to know I'll have to check it out
Pest and Lawn Ginja we have tons of customers that use Callisto and Explorer on their lawns. I wouldn’t go off of the Tenacity label in most cases if you’re using for pre emerge spraying. We usually go at least a TBSP per gallon and I think the label says half teaspoon.
Nice
Great information on your channel. Keep the vids coming!
Thanks Phil! Appreciate the encouragement. Its busy season with work and the vids take time too.
You're killin it bro! I like the fact that you took the time to let us see the view! what mountains are we looking at?
Wasatch mountains
beautiful! I thought it looked like northern Utah. Did a lot of camping and travelling around those parts. Not necessarily that area but a lot of Utah, Colorado, and Arizona (4 corners) Thanks again for sharing
Killing it... As in killing the weeds. LOL
Thanks, Tom
Tenacity had a tendency to bleach areas. Dont be surprised if doesnt die
Hays, KS. Hoping that tenacity will give a new Bluegrass lawn a head start in a crabgrass prone area.
It should. The problem is the pre emergent portion doesnt last as long as a dedicated pre emergents like prodiamine or dithiopyr.
I recall you mentioning that about Tenacity. I do have a question if you don’t mind? From what I gather with Bluegrass, I can only put enough Prodiamine (about 2lbs. per 1000) to get me around four months of protection. Any suggestions about what to do with that gap in coverage?
@@CaseyBieker the only thing you can do is switch products or active ingredients.
Roger that. Thanks brother.

Very educational video..
Can you tell me when can I water my lawn after applying tenacity?.
if you want post emergent control wait 16 hours. if you want pre emergent control water immediately with .15" of water
I'd wait 2 or 3 days

Depends in the rate and the type if fertilizer. Try not to exceed 1lb N. Factor in urea volatizing
Is it advisable to directly mix herbicides before adding to the water in the tank? I thought it was advised to add one at a time, mix, and then add the next.
No it's not. Im lazy 😂😂😂
It's all about the ore emergents with poa. Tenacity does well with poa from my understanding.
I'd consider spring and fall applications
Hoping to see a video focused on Creeping Charlie and how to kill and control it.
Great videos!!
I hear that. I can do an educational video. Creeping Charlie is not native to my area.
@@pestandlawnginja is that true? I'm in Salt Lake and have been calling my most hated weed enemy, creeping charlies. Are they creeping daniels? Ivy like weeds that have white flowers.
sounds like bindweed or morning glory
@@pestandlawnginja yes...that's it. What can we do? Find a huge field and show us how to kill them. That would be awesome...thanks
Hey Brian. Check weedalert.com
Great video Ginja!!
Thanks trax!
Worked awesome for weeds, Thank you, My new seeds seem to be sprouting white instead of green though, Is there something that can be done or is it doom? Thank you for any help.
Sounds like you went a bit heavy on the application. Time will tell. Fingers crossed
Thank you for your reply. I had the seed that needed to be used so I knew I was taking a risk. Have a great Sunday!@@pestandlawnginja
Thanks rodney! You too!
Good stuff Ginja! I’m testing tenacity on a spring bluegrass seeding, let ya know how it goes!
Sweet bro!
If you mix Tenacity and Speed Zone, do you dose both per bottle instructions, or do you use less of each, since you’re applying both at once?
To get "desirable effects" its best to use Tenacity in several applications depending on the condition of the lawn obvious. Space 2-4 weeks out between each application.
so true!
I have a lot of dandelions in my lawn. Will tenacity help me get rid of them or is it to late? When can you apply tenacity?
You can but thatd be a lot more expensive than a base ester or 2-4d that will do the same.
Thanks
First found your channel by researching tenacity can’t wait to see this lawn in the coming weeks for the green up.
@@ltdlawnservice4586 I got yah. I'll put it in the ideas document. Great suggestion. I prefer a point where the droplets are just above a mist
Utah valley?
This house is yes
How do I get rid of Johnson grass without killing my yard I live in Missouri and my yard is tall fescue?
Fusillade ii
Hey Ginga,in Knoxville tn,yard is a mess with weeds.should I mow with a bag first then treat ?have broad leaf to dialysis grass .trying for Ttf only. Thanks
I would research and find a rhizomatous tall fescue species. Barenbrug makes one. I would also do a soil test to figure out why weeds are thriving. You most likely have an imbalance.
Thanks will what on the soil results
Here in Oklahoma, all the grass is Bermuda. It would be impossible to change it out to a different variety of grass. Are there any other grasses I can put with Bermuda to have a greener lawn in the winter time? I doubt there is. Bermuda goes dormant in the winter so in some yards there is a mixture of green grass and dormant brown Bermuda.
Yes. Kentucky bluegrass will work perfectly. I prefer using a species called barvette
Then do another app 6 weeks after
@@pestandlawnginja Awesome! Much appreciate the reply. Keep up the great videos..
You're welcome!

Great video what will you recommend for the weeds on the flower beds
spot spraying weeds in the flower beds is always tricky because any herbicide will cause damage to plants if it touches or gets over spray. I use t-zone when it's hot and speedzone when it's cooler.
@@pestandlawnginja thank you so much
@@isaiaszepeda42 you're welcome
How long after tenacity app. do I need to wait to reseed. I'm planning on a total kill using roundup, in process of lawn renovation...Thx....
Wait two weeks from the time you use glyphosate. You can apply tenacity and your seed the same day.
Clay's fine. Condition it with hu m.j tessers and calcium. Itll help. Just remember it all starts with water
Thank you.
I personally like to wait 12 hours, in the hot sun 6.
@@pestandlawnginja Thank you!
@@pestandlawnginja Thank you!
I wouldn't be too concerned to be honest. it is a lot of rain but spread out over a few days it's not horrible.
Thank you for the informative video. How do you care for your clothes after a treatment? Just normal wash? Thanks.
Great question. I wash them separate with nothing else in the washer. I just wash with normal washer soap
Thank you.
Great intelligent fun horror...I mean humor! Oh ya great info for I guy who hates to buy sod and lives in Utah. Thanks! I also love to spray and pray but this time I will resist!
👊😂 Slay that lawn!
From my experience itll go away. Dont sweat it.
Love watching your channel, live in Ft Worth Texas
Thanks charles!
I would wait at least 7 to 10 days for results. Imo fine for animals. It's a product that blocks the plants availability to photosynthesize
Can you mix tenacity and Speed Zone in the same tank and apply it to the lawn...or, do you have to spray separately from two different sprayers?
same tank
Brother great info always, I'm in Houston, TX. I noticed Bermuda patches growing between my
San Augustine, can I use tenacity or do you have any suggestions how to rid of it.
Thanks in advance
tenacity will kill the bermuda is that's what you're looking for.
@@pestandlawnginja
Yes, but is embedded (mix between) in the saint Augustine
The label stipulates that it's fine for sod based st Augustine. I would try a small section and go from there. You can't beat the price per 1000 sq ft.
Hey Ginga when spraying tenacity as a pre emergent are you supposed to use surfactant? I know you do for post emergents. Thanks man great videos very informative
You dont have to use the surfactant of you're only worries about the pre m properies
@@pestandlawnginja Thanks!
