    Super helpful! Used self tapping sheet metal screws to install some E-track in my van, one of the surfaces turned out to be too thin to hold the load and the screws popped right out. The load test is crucial, well done!

    Collective term for these is threaded insert. These are best for sheet metal but there’s a variety of other styles for different materials worth checking out.

    thank you, I got this table saw and it has these knobs which need a square hole so the screw doesn't move right, but making a square hole requires special tools, so I'm gonna go with this, much better

    I like your videos but if possible it would be nice if you were to provide a link on each video to the page of the product that each video is for.

    If nut slips, grind some grooves on bottom side of tool(or scrap of metal with hole in it). The jack nut will grip the tool but the screw will be be free to spin.

    Hey there, wonderful video, thanks for it. Ten minutes ago a random thought popped up in my mind: "jack nut"? Is there such a thing? What are they used for? And then I found this video. Thanks again :)

    Follow up question, Sir........... You say this is for when you can always see the other side of the panel, and then you proceed to say "look it is flush". How can we tell the jack nut is flush if we can't see? Is that where the torque wrench comes in?

    Helpful video, thanks!
    I just went nuts(ba!) writing amazon review for some quote-unquote 'stainless' jack nuts. One thing about stainless is it doesn't look like nickle nor does it stick to a magnet. Please inform China.

    Could this be used to simply have a threaded hole in the thin material? Instead of leaving the fastener in permanently?

    • @davidbloomberg9494
      @davidbloomberg9494 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not likely to hold. Thin metal won't have enough threads to sustain any / much weight

    • @bromandudeguy1995
      @bromandudeguy1995 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you could leave the jack nut in without a bolt and install and uninstall bolts as needed.

    would this be stronger than a rivet nut insert into aluminum?

    • @lowrangeoffroad1
      @lowrangeoffroad1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, I have never used the rivet nut on aluminum or steel. The Jack Nut is strong if installed properly. Don't make the mistake of cross threading the screw. If you do the jack nut will never get tight in the sheet metal and in some cases very difficult to remove and replace. Good luck with whatever it is you are working on. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @lowrangeoffroad1
      @lowrangeoffroad1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +BC Fraser The bolt size is 1/4X20 and the tool size is 5/32 (or 4mm) allen socket? Hope this answers you question.

      These look very similar to a 'Plusnut' or sometimes called a Crossnut. Called such because of the + pattern that is created when the nut is inserted. Hope this helps.
