No American Woman was first written and recorded by the guess who back in the 70's but a cover by Lenny Kravitz was recorded and released a decade or so later
@@nickynuke6390 I like SOME Rush. But most of it is not my thing... They are GREAT musicians, but it's just too all over the place. Like some of the most metal Prokofief for classical music, or some weird Fusion Jazz bits. I like simple melodies I can hum... So Tom Sawyer and YYZ are about it for me. I always found that the missing 4th player made their sound MISS something... Like it's not finished... But I realize that they are amazing musicians though...
American Woman is a classic rock song that will always be popular IMHO :) "American Woman" is a song by Canadian rock band the Guess Who, released January 1970. American singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz covered "American Woman" for the soundtrack of Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. It was released as a single in May 1999
It bears mentioning that these are only the rock songs. On top of this there's pop, country, folk, rap, R&B, jazz, big band, etc. You'll definitely know lots of those songs too and the artists behind them. Drake, Shania Twain, Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, Michael Buble, The Weeknd, Paul Anka, Nelly Furtado .... just to name a few.
I've made this comment every time I see this list, whoever made it had a love affair with Avril Lavigne and Nickleback. They have far too many songs on this list there are Iconic Canadian Bands with better songs. This list has a massive bias bumping songs that out performed most on here world wide and mattered far more to Canadians then this deep track nonsense. ie. Northen Pikes, Prism, more Tragically hip, Blue Rodeo, Great Big Sea, The Band, Chilliwack, Helix, April Wine and many many more. P.S. "Summer of 69" awesome but there is no way it ranks or is as well known as "Everything I Do" which spent a record 13 straight weeks at number 1 on Billboard, American Top 40 and still owns the record in Europe. He filled Wembley in 96 just on that song and the song "Heaven" alone very few artists have accomplished selling out Wembley Solo.
I know. It's like this person only listen to their private CD collection of 10 bands they liked and nothing else. This is a list of good songs but it does not represent the true list of how Canada has tons of great bands.
@craigscott6975 Then it tells me WHO watches Spotify... There are so many more Canadian rock bands that had hits. I guess I know not to trust anything coming out of there.
A good Canadian music video from the 80's is a song called "Tears are not enough' by Northern Lights. It was Canada's contribution to African famine Relief. It was made up of most of the top Canadian singers of the time th-cam.com/video/x59AMdYqdRc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=c9ECmMdas8v7HHsh
Hey my friends, glad you enjoy all these Canadian rock bands! Life long RUSH fan, also APRIL WINE, grew -up only 5km from Waverly, Nova Scotia, Canada were the band was founded! 😀🥶👌👍✌
Nice reaction guys, and good luck with your channel. I must say though that the clip you reacted to should maybe have called it's self, "100 Canadian rock songs". Maybe 15 or twenty of the songs on this list would have been placed somewhere on a legitimate "Top 100" list.
The list is kind of lacking, the guy is just a big fan of a very limited number of artists. Triumph, April Wine, Blue Rodeo, Our Lady Peace, Max Webster, Mathew Good Band, Lee Aaron, The Tea Party, Loverboy, Glass Tiger, Corey Hart, Chiliwack, Men without Hats, Where are they? Even Céline Dion had big rock hits. I bet this compiler is not even Canadian. As a French Canadian I could add a few artists who made it big in the French speaking world but in the English speaking world there's only English songs. Québec is like a country locked inside a country called Canada, it's a different culture. I'm not a separatist, it's just a fact.
These are all Canadian but a bit of overkill with Nickelback, Avril and Brian. This is just a small sample of Canadian bands and singers. Celine Dion, Burton Cummings (he wrote American Woman) , April Wine, Rush, Leonard Cohen, Trooper, Alanis Morisette, Sarah Mcgloughlin, etc....etc..... and the list goes on , I know I've forgotton quite a few. Oh yeah, Three Dog Night, Bachman Turner Overdrive , Bare Naked Ladies, Tragically Hip and on and on .... Check out Neil Peart (of RUSH) doing a drum solo in Frankfurt , it's amazing.
Wait until you realize how many famous actors you probably think are American, but are Canadian. For example Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling, and Keanu Reeves, just to names three.
This is the top streamed canadian rock songs according to Spotify. It actually shows the spotify streams in the bottom left corner. So obviously this list only contains songs that are international hits. This list is not opinion based.
Ya they missed so many great bands, April Wine, The Stampeders, Trooper, Triumph, Blue Rodeo, Chilliwack, and most glaringly The Tragically Hip, whoever made this list must have been born in the 80's.
This band list seems to be very specific and very narrow. I would say this lists only about 5% of great Canadian bands. There are so many more bands to explore... please do so.
Too much emphasis on too few bands/artists. Canada has a rich history of great rock dating back to the 60's and especially from the 70's onward but the og video focused on very few artists, I mean Nickelback and Avril were mentioned many more times than either of them should have been. Same with a few other bands. Where are bands like Triumph? Trooper (seriously are you trying to tell me that Girlfriend from Avril was a more rocking song than Raise a Little Hell by Trooper? Our Lady Peace? Sloan? The Band? There are so many more great rock bands and artists than the few they mostly mentioned.
Personally, I think this list is overly restrictive with too much representation from Nickelback, Avril Lavigne and Sum 41. Great performers, but that leaves out a whole bunch of other ones. No tragically hip?
Seriously.. Wow, blame Trudeau has gone way too far... unbelievable. When you say crap like that it makes it very clear you haven't actually lived through tough times. You started paying taxes in the last couple years I bet.. If you even do yet.. I remember a time when farms were going bankrupt left and right, interest rates hit 18% or more. we ate because we farmed and even then there was an awful lot of tuna salad. Shoes got replaced when you wore a hole in the one pair you had. My family was in a better position than many and that was reality for us. Those who say Canada sucks blaa blaa have no idea what they are talking about. Name one place you'd rather live, then go there.

Rush is forever my favorite Canadian band! Just bought BTO tickets for the spring.

This is ordered by number of listens on Spotify, but I do agree that there are some missing bands that should be on this list.
Hi guys fun fact about Nickelback while they now reside in Vancouver, BC they are originally from Hanna Alberta
most of our bands in Canada make most of their carreers in USA (bigger market), so many people think that they're bands from USA.
Obviously made by someone with a VERY small window into Canadian rock... Or a DEEP love for Nickleback and Ms. Lavigne.
Its the top 100 in Spotify.

@@TheJimprez Agree! I mean to not have Gordon there was crimanal.
Gordon Lightfoot is another one. Honeymoon Suite. Lighthouse. Stampeders

It was Lenny Cravets that did the cover. American Woman was written by Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings who are from my hometown of Winnipeg, Canada
I think you could add triumph to this list as well.

Lenny Kravitz did the cover of American Woman... The Guess Who did it in the early 70s. LK version was late 90s.

Three Dog Night was NOT a Canadian band
John Kaye from Stephenwolf is Canadian, the rest of band is from the U.S
There are so many other bands left out of this list April Wine Prism Triumph Harlequin Aldo Nova The list goes on and on
Thank you

lenny Kravitz covered this original song by The Guess Who
Shania Twain too❤❤ Celine Dion....
Missing some Triumph on this top 100 for sure, same with April Wine and Voivod !!!
Lenny Kravitz covered the original done by The guess who

I am shocked Lenny Kravitz would cover the most hateful, Anti American song to ever hit the Billboard charts

They missed so much. Way much focus on songs from turn of century. Nickelback is seen as a joke
These ARE NOT the top 100 canadian songs. Some of them are but most are definitely not.
What is this bullshit ?? 27 Nickelback songs and not one Tragically Hip song ?
Worst list of Canadian rock Hits ever
We used to rock in this country. Then young Trudeau mucked it all up. I don't know why I even pay taxes anymore.
Get a life or go find an appropriate forum to air your political grievances, nobody cares. 🤔
