Obviously a lot of emphasis on pop and rock here and mostly youth oriented. No mention of Gordon Lightfoot, Murray McLauchlan, Michael Buble, Bruce Cockburn or Anne Murray, not everyone’s cup of tea but some of the most popular and most awarded performers in Canadian history. Some of these groups are very niche and not very well known. I’m not sure what criteria they used to compile this list.
The criteria used was a fan of heavy metal or death metal decided to compile a list, asked AI to produce a list of 100 top Canadian bands, auto selected songs from their album covers, and then added 50 metal songs he was familiar with. I don't think that more than 10 songs were the bands actual most famous song or biggest hits.
There were about (a-boot) 40-50 actual great Canadian bands here, but only a few of their big songs were featured. The list compiler was clearly some death metal freak who hasn't heard of most of the popular bands. Carly Rae Jepson (1 song over 3 billion downloads) in the bottom 20 yet some metal band not even there family knows about is in the top 50 ever?
Not just the bands selected, but the songs chosen to represent the bands. Only about 10 were legitimately top songs... most were "deep dives" from midway through side B of their 4th album.
Yeah... this list is shit. More like Top 25 + 125 random Canadian bands. I've never heard (or even heard of) maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of these, & of the remainder a good 1/2 were one hit wonders or brief sensations & many were very genre specific that most ppl just aren't exposed to. Not to mention the "ranking" system. While I admit the Top 10 were pretty solid (if not perfect), many of our greatest bands didn't rank better than the high hundreds. Not exactly a great selection of "Top" contenders by any sensible definition.
at least this list covers a great variety from a range of years...better compilation than most
Only 25 songs in, but seems like "deep dive" songs, like the compiler knew the band name and AI randomly picked song titles lol

As a Canadian I gotta say, this list mostly sucks. It is definitely not what most Canadians listen to. Please try some other lists. And, sorry.
Most of this list is crap.

@@vampfashions I'm Canadian and I've never met a Canadian who says "a-boot.'
This list isn't even close to being in order... My gawd, also, some of the "bands" were British.. LOL
Really bizarre list. Personally, I would have swapped out about 60 of these songs for 60 completely different songs.

This list is in no order at all and is not that great imo.

Rush wasn't the best band in Toronto, let alone in Canada, any of the last 40 years.
Such a bad list of Canadian music.
