“we celebrate rather than being celebs” like when they celebrate with us in their hotel room on vlive after award shows, rather than attending the many after parties they were invited to. Army doesn’t ask them to do this, but they do it anyways for us. 🤧💜
It's why ARMYs love BTS because they never for one moment forget that their success is a partnership with all their fans. It's symbiotic and they know it.
I just remembered when DDAENG dropped out of nowhere and everyone in twitter was so confused lol, translators where frustrated because they didn’t know how to translate in a way we (I-Army) could understand Joon’s verse and the rest of us where reminding ourselves about all RUN! episodes in where they said ddaeng, ain’t never forgetting that day lmao
One thing that I enjoy: In Hoseok’s verse where he says “this is homework” and etc., I believe he’s referencing those who are trying to figure out the “formula” of BTS’s success. I’m sure some of you have heard about task forces being created among entertainment companies that are viewing BTS’s rise as a formula that can be replicated. Bang Sihyuk has even said himself that there is no formula-Bangtan is just Bangtan. Hoseok says something along the lines of “Isn’t it funny? Don’t you feel dumbfounded? To be honest, think calmly about why they [haters] are making such a fuss. [There is] not enough time, this is homework. If you can’t solve this, then your problem is ddaeng.” *mic drop*
Yep, Bang PD also mention he was anxious himself because he doesn't even know how to 'create' another group like BTS. During their early years, he followed almost the same structure; put the boys in variety show, get them to follow Big Bang style, labeled them in standard Kpop roles, like visuals, the cool one, the naughty one, the serious one ... but BTS evolved by themselves & created something unique. What he did right tho, he trusted BTS to build themselves well & didn't interfere too much.
So basically they are saying: You should’ve just sat there and ate your ramen because all that talking ain’t getting you nowhere, you’re trash, your career never started. While also exposing those who didn’t wanna acknowledge them until they got bigger so gtfo the way cause you tried it and failed. They got money now, they don’t care what y’all got to say because they’ll be right and you’ll always be wrong. *DDAENG* Edit: OH WOW, thank you guys so much for the likes and thanks for the heart❤️
Somebody help me out lol is this just a song they decided to put out or did somebody diss them again? I always loved their rap tracks but I just don't follow their lives all that much.
Vanesa Ioana this is just directed to all the people who hate on them/people who’ve hated them in the past and told them they wouldn’t get far. They are low key flexing on them
one of my favorite examples of wordplay is rm’s “only accel no break” which 1. is a reference to the acceleration and brakes of a car, meaning they only go faster and they won’t slow down 2. is a homonym for “excel, no break” which means they’ll continue to be the best without resting I LOVE TALENTED MEN
It just shows how he (RM) and probably the other members like literature so much. That's what set them apart from other groups. Classy low negativity diss tracks :)
TRUE! They out so much effort into their lyrics! I know a lot groups have started their own music writing and producing, but BTS is far away in the front for me, their lyrics are amazing!
personally, i think the part about the frog inside the well with narrow vision also applies to american celebrities/public figures, or just to american people in general. i'm korean american and a lot of the time, americans really think that the united states is on top of the world and any other culture is weird and wrong. not all americans are like this of course, but many are kind of stuck in this protected bubble because they only see the environment they've grown up with and don't know anything else. so therefore, they don't understand and can't relate to other cultures. **edit: i’m not saying that this is what bts intended when writing the lyrics, but i think their lyrics can also apply to this meaning
It is called being parochial and unfortunately Americans aren't the only ones guilty of this. Having travelled in the USA though I would say that you have a point.
Is anyone sitting in their rooms going "ohhh damn burnnn" Because I believe BTS just burned the antis and haters in the most intellectual way possible, the lyricism in this is another level And thank so much for such explaining it so deeply while keeping it so simple at the same time
aight but don't y'all think it's much more intimidating bc rather than them actually dissing haters in a hateful way they're just teasing and poking fun at them while bragging abt themselves?????? Like I dunno for u but it's much more intimidating when someone teases u and acts as if they don't take u seriously like wow.
And this is why namjoon is the best rapper in the korean game. Amazing diverse flows, great stage presence and unbelievably clever lyrics. You wont ever change my mind
Well.. I just realized BTS and Bighit are really intellectuals. If you watch the run episodes before you'll see them using xylophone like when they were playing the old variery show run ep. I also remember they played games with children songs and they used that specific song you mentioned. They also played freeze tag during the zombie run episode. You see? They are giving hints without us having any clue that its a hint for their song. You might say that was a coincidence but with Bighit and BTS, I don't think so.
Damn, this is like kuroshitsuji, gotta go back to chapter 60 page 4 panel 5 speech bubble no. 3 to get clues for chapter 130 and have every fan scream after the reveal.
And if you see in the Billboard interview, Suga said about the movie Tazza, the same who was mentioned here. And his translation to the Tazza was 'faker'. Coincidence?!
For this foreigner, these explanations helped me become ARMY. When I'm able to understand and connect to the lyrics and see the genius that is BTS - I am just left speechless. Thank you.
i love this, it’s the one thing that makes me sad about BTS’s music b/c even though i can read the translations of their music, I feel like I can never truly understand the whole meaning of their songs and the word play, metaphors things like that, and I feel bad that I’m missing all that :((( BUT THANK YOU FOR THIS !!
I agree, I can read all the translation videos and read what the lyrics they say mean but I feel like I can never truly understand them. However this video was extremely helpful and I just want to say thank you so much for this! As someone who doesn’t speak their language but loves them and their music so much, I truly appreciate you making this video. It’s amazing and makes me feel like I can really understand their lyrics so thank you!!!!!!!
How to summarize Namjoon's lyricism in one verse. I admire him so much for how he uses language critically in songs. With Korean, there's so many double meanings and easy to rhyme words that it takes songwriting to a whole new level.
YASSSS LOW NEGATIVITY DISS TRACK That's always what I've been trying to tell people about what's different about BTS raps compared to other rap songs you hear on those rap shows. Thank you for explaining this song so well! I understand Chinese so I understood the "frog under the well" saying coz there's a chinese idiom - 井底之蛙, which means the same thing. But thank you for explaining the whole song and it's underlying meaning! It makes it much easier for people from western backgrounds to understand!
DKDKTV Jungkook also talks about the frog in the well on an episode of American Hustle Life where they had to write and produce their own song. I think JK and Tae were working in a group with Yoongi, who told them to just work on their lyrics and leave the producing to him lol, but Jungkook insists on including the frog in the well theme in the song.
the fact that you need high iq to understand this and filipino self proclaimed rappers just plaigarized it. lmao and they have the nerve to say that this wasnt copied and it's armys fault that we got defensive and shit. mygosh.
Okay so I'm korean and I did not get all the references of the lyrics. Seriously, BTS rap line is genius. This is a GREAT video and explanation! I love DDAENG so much....even more than their cyphers
Heaters from RM is real man.. Great wordplay. Anyway it's kinda funny to see these big influential company feels they are the top in the industry, but yet they failed to realize the importance of smart/creativity of an idol/person play a huge role of expressing thing that matters to themselves. Company-produced songs can be good but lacking creativity touch of an idol expression and self conscious in music production can give the company some set-backs. BTS is keeping it real and that's why they are the best in the game right now.
I wanted to mention this, i think the line "When I was young i liked playing freeze tag, ddaeng" could also mean as them selves in the korean industry. BTS is the SAVER and other kpops are the FREEZED kids. Literally, they saved the kpop thus BTS PAVED THE WAY. What bts had now, they would craved aswell... The community discriminating and discrediting BTS fot their worldwide breakthrough and BBMA loom, they wished they ever have a bbma, isn't it just a PAPER award? Lmao
I'm so amazed how my daughter brought me here 😂. You kids are hanging out with smart people. By the way I'm a mother and a baby army whilst my daughter is old army.💜
I am a Korean living in Korea a whole my life and I guarantee this break down has no wrong or flaw. And you may wonder Korean understand this amount of word plays of Ddang? Yes my dear, that is genius of this lyrics I think, even a not-a-fan-Korean-man like myself can understand without any flaw as listening everyday easy words.
Holy shit, i knew something about how much of a masterpiece Ddaeng was but now that you explained, i've gained a whole lot more respect for the rapline like omg??? how can they be so damn geniuses ffs, they really outdo themselves doing the simplest yet most impactful things, their mind is so poweful and together make justice to their own talent. Thank you so much for doing this video, i'll share it with my army friends and even outsiders bc people _need_ to know about the actual meaning behind this song!
The explanation is SO good, it literally makes the whole difference. It was so worth it to watch it, and as you said at the end of the video, they can make a diss track without using a single curse word or saying anything direct. Amazing
Before I've ask my Korean friend what's "Ddeng" mean, and she said there's alot of meaning about that word and she tried to explain it and its so complicated I'm still confused . But now I understand , thanks David😃
shaydatheduck seriously , if you're not looking up their lyrics then you're missing out on a big part of what makes them great ... and Im not talking about those shitty lyrics video on youtube
I always listen to Ddaeng whenever someone pisses me off or if someone insults the boys. Knowing the amount of savagery hidden behind this song makes me feel so much better and tells me that I stan Kings.
Literature majors are going to have a field day with this, like,, there's so much imagery, full rhymes, onomatopeia, and there are also metaphors (the sound of the cashier = money) etc.
At the beginning i went well with Jhope parts and Suga parts, and i get to understand the whole ddaeng thing because i've heard before about the cards game, but then RM came out, and when he said that RM employed 7 meanings of ddaeng in one single verse, i was like ...damn dude you're way more than a freaking genius
This is fantastic!! Thank you so much from a non-Korean-speaker who loves dissecting lyrics/novels on a word-play level and desperately wanted to deep dive into my newfound favorite band’s lyrics (especially after finding out they write their own songs/lyrics). This video is exactly what I wanted and I sincerely hope you will do more BTS lyric analysis/translation videos like this one!❤️❤️❤️
Now that explanation was class!! There were many lyric explanation videos, but I knew we were missing something!! After all we are talking about BTS here!! As a non Korean, I found this extremely interesting and useful!! Full power DKDKTV.. Where's your brother though? 🤔
I seriously loved this breakdown. I had looked into the double entendres before, but you’ve pointed out even more that I had know idea of. Also, the way you explain the song is so concise, it just makes me appreciate their lyrical content even more. The wordplay is insane, especially in Namjoon’s verse. The man is a genius.
Why bighit didn’t put this song on iTunes arghhhhhh , Do you know how many “ mugles” we attracted with this piece of ART ...almost 10 millions stream on sound could. And thank you gorvthis video. Now it’s easier for ARMY to explain the song . I read thousands of translation for this song but watching this video was like this is the first time I’m learning wht the song about Sorry for my English..
Namjoon's word plays never fails to mesmerize me even if i only get half the gist of it. Id like learn korean just so i could fully appreciate the amount of wit in these songs.
I love your explanation becasue for once it's detailed & also concise. Also the clips you used helps understanding more what you're saying. Lastly, it's interesting also because this song is a masterpice of word play, it's on another level. This vid was very useful👏

'Namjoon's verse is the apex of this song' me about every song including tracks where he doesn't even appear

Namjoon biased armys may be less but every army has a lot of respect for Namjoon.
We love a presidential leader.
Jimin sugat no jams cos it's in jinnie's lamp Why is RM not popular? he’s the leader ...
@@spaceinbetween6591 umm he's very very popular but some armys only praise the maknae line so yea...
hes been my bias since day 1, a lot of new-to-BTS reactors I've watched have him as their bias as well. But Ive watched a lot of rappers react so maybe that's why. But I still get what you mean, when I first got into BTS it seemed like not as many people had him as their bias as the other members but over time I've realized he gets plenty of love. Personally, I use the term bias very very loosely because I have so much respect for each and every member that it's impossible for me to have a real #1. They're all adorable amazing humanbeans

NAMJOON FOR PRESIDENT
rap line is amazing
hobi came up with the ddaeng
yoongi with the traditional instrumental
and namjoon the king of wordplay as usually
“we celebrate rather than being celebs” like when they celebrate with us in their hotel room on vlive after award shows, rather than attending the many after parties they were invited to. Army doesn’t ask them to do this, but they do it anyways for us. 🤧💜
annx g 😭😭 you gatdamn right!
A Riese yessss this!!!say it louder for the people in the back
Yep, Bang PD also mention he was anxious himself because he doesn't even know how to 'create' another group like BTS. During their early years, he followed almost the same structure; put the boys in variety show, get them to follow Big Bang style, labeled them in standard Kpop roles, like visuals, the cool one, the naughty one, the serious one ... but BTS evolved by themselves & created something unique. What he did right tho, he trusted BTS to build themselves well & didn't interfere too much.
whoa..im getting goosebump!! It is like bang pd create a simple robot but they evolved over time to hv feeling and take over the world😱
BangtanMyBangtan if u listen to their music since debut or even predebut, u would know that they NEVER follow any bigbang style.
A Riese sorry I gotta break the perfect 555 likes. Lol. But seriously your comment is so ddaeng!! 👍
*DDAENG*
Edit: OH WOW, thank you guys so much for the likes and thanks for the heart❤️
U summarized it better than i did!
Ddaeng!
They are low key flexing on them
@@motatsumaki oh~ okay. Thanks for the explanation!
one of my favorite examples of wordplay is rm’s “only accel no break” which
1. is a reference to the acceleration and brakes of a car, meaning they only go faster and they won’t slow down
2. is a homonym for “excel, no break” which means they’ll continue to be the best without resting
I LOVE TALENTED MEN
i missed this!
joannofarc iiii
Yes! One of the few I understood by myself lol.
This is how you properly diss people.
No bad/curse words. Just lyrics and wordplay.
Very well played
It just shows how he (RM) and probably the other members like literature so much. That's what set them apart from other groups. Classy low negativity diss tracks :)
YUP RAP LINE+BOOK READING/LITERATURE LINE ACTUALLY
exactly
TRUE! They out so much effort into their lyrics! I know a lot groups have started their own music writing and producing, but BTS is far away in the front for me, their lyrics are amazing!
J-Hope's father😂💕
namjoon's mind is just SOMETHING ELSE
personally, i think the part about the frog inside the well with narrow vision also applies to american celebrities/public figures, or just to american people in general. i'm korean american and a lot of the time, americans really think that the united states is on top of the world and any other culture is weird and wrong. not all americans are like this of course, but many are kind of stuck in this protected bubble because they only see the environment they've grown up with and don't know anything else. so therefore, they don't understand and can't relate to other cultures.
**edit: i’m not saying that this is what bts intended when writing the lyrics, but i think their lyrics can also apply to this meaning
yeah i get your point. but tbh America is hell of a big well tho haha.
oof finally an intellectual, thank u for saying this
DKDKTV a well, by any other name, is still a well lol
It is called being parochial and unfortunately Americans aren't the only ones guilty of this. Having travelled in the USA though I would say that you have a point.
OH MY GOSH EXACTLY!!! I'm sreenshotting this and putting it up all around my school
The crowd becoming silent for Namjoon when he starts rapping is the definition of POWER
5:34 "making it hard for foreigners to understand" so thanks DKDKTV for explaining these geniuses' genius lyrics.
I love that BTS lures me into Korean culture. If I want to understand their genius, I have to take a trip into their culture.
RMe4 Jimin SAME I really l love that
well put!
Is anyone sitting in their rooms going "ohhh damn burnnn" Because I believe BTS just burned the antis and haters in the most intellectual way possible, the lyricism in this is another level
And thank so much for such explaining it so deeply while keeping it so simple at the same time
Preksha gupta same
Ikr like it isn't even a hate diss track all they are doing is playing with words n haters are gonna BURN LOL I love dem boys 😎😛
not knowing korean is just such a massive disadvantage here. The translations could never do it justice the way these are meant to hit
YES,this is a major disadvantage of not knowing korean and being an International army
aight but don't y'all think it's much more intimidating bc rather than them actually dissing haters in a hateful way they're just teasing and poking fun at them while bragging abt themselves??????
Like I dunno for u but it's much more intimidating when someone teases u and acts as if they don't take u seriously like wow.
IKR
it's like i'm not talking abt you but if you're offended... oh well
trueeeeeee
More like it was intimidating because the lyrics was genius! The kind of diss track you get from a guy with high IQ.
Definitely
When david said RM used "ddaeng" differently 7 times i just speechless, where's exactly the idea coming out, isn't RM is so genius? Yes he is!
I love how sarcastic they turned, sounds more mature. 💜
FrauZwoelfe! Many of their songs r sarcastic tho. They hav been critizing the society since 2013, debut. 😂
They're so smart with their lyrics that the antis and haters cant even understand 😳
Those 75 dislikes are from Taehyung using different accounts because he didn't get a part in ddaeng 😂
..he did.he just came out from nowhere during the live performance lol
Agust D yes a petition should be done to include him in next rap series

Namjoon is certainly the lyrical genius of Bangtan and this video just proved it further..!! It’s so hard to write even meaningless lyrics btw....
where's the lie tho
We been knew he has an IQ of 148 but this... WOW
They use xylophones for all the variety shows tho...lol it’s ok
Asha Blue yeah. I just use that certain ep. because its the one I remember the most.
Damn, this is like kuroshitsuji, gotta go back to chapter 60 page 4 panel 5 speech bubble no. 3 to get clues for chapter 130 and have every fan scream after the reveal.
catpaws 😂😂😂
We will try to solve that problem in the future!
This convinces me 💯that BTS has the best rapline!!! DDAENG!!!
How to summarize Namjoon's lyricism in one verse. I admire him so much for how he uses language critically in songs. With Korean, there's so many double meanings and easy to rhyme words that it takes songwriting to a whole new level.
Namjoon is genius. This is solid proof. All the wordplay. Masterful sword smith!
I clicked this video out of curiosity and I am not disappointed at all. Mannn How can someone be so genius

It makes it much easier for people from western backgrounds to understand!
yes, the saying actually originates from the chinese idiom haha i've learned it for the Korean SAT exam. Didnt know it would become useful here!
In India we call it "kuwa ka mendhak" which basically means the same.
as always bangtan=geniuses
the fact that you need high iq to understand this and filipino self proclaimed rappers just plaigarized it. lmao and they have the nerve to say that this wasnt copied and it's armys fault that we got defensive and shit. mygosh.

Haha! I was just thinking of Jin's comment! So true! RM is a genius
"Heaters"
I wanted to mention this, i think the line "When I was young i liked playing freeze tag, ddaeng" could also mean as them selves in the korean industry.
BTS is the SAVER and other kpops are the FREEZED kids. Literally, they saved the kpop thus BTS PAVED THE WAY.
What bts had now, they would craved aswell...
The community discriminating and discrediting BTS fot their worldwide breakthrough and BBMA loom, they wished they ever have a bbma, isn't it just a PAPER award? Lmao
What this video taught me: the rap line are pun masters.

But now I understand , thanks David😃
woAh tbh i knew this had a deeper meaning but i didn’t realise it was this deep-
thank you!
shaydatheduck seriously , if you're not looking up their lyrics then you're missing out on a big part of what makes them great ... and Im not talking about those shitty lyrics video on youtube
I always listen to Ddaeng whenever someone pisses me off or if someone insults the boys. Knowing the amount of savagery hidden behind this song makes me feel so much better and tells me that I stan Kings.
Nam- namjoon verse has 7 different meaning ?? DAMN A GENIUS
You know RM got something to do with it when the song has "amazing/genius wordplay".
if you're a baby ARMY thats his thing yoo.

This is fantastic!! Thank you so much from a non-Korean-speaker who loves dissecting lyrics/novels on a word-play level and desperately wanted to deep dive into my newfound favorite band’s lyrics (especially after finding out they write their own songs/lyrics).
