I was listening to this song on loop for the past couple of days and I had my own deduction of what the lyrics meant. It is pretty similar to what you said but I liked a Korean's explanation of the double entendres of certain words and the idioms that we are not familiar with. I am pretty new to K-Pop so thank you for the explanation, David!
Dis-ease has been one of my favorite tracks out of BE ever since it was released but I hadn't checked the deeper meaning of the song. After hearing David's explanation, I daresay that this is the best song on the album because it reflects my struggles nowadays due to pandemic situation and other personal issues. Thank you David for sharing the deeper meaning of the song and giving your personal take on this. Always love the "explained" series!
Just when you think it’s not possible to love j-hope any more than you already do. 🥺 Thank you David for taking the time to do this! I love all of your “explained” videos. 💜
This song makes me love BTS more and more. They always talk about social issues not in the offensive way but in the beautiful way with their amazing musics. Everyone could really relate to BTS's music if only they would open their hearts and minds first instead of putting their egos and hating them for no good reason.
We all know how brilliant of a lyricists BTS are but how amazing is David for translating it so wonderfully for the non Koreans... Thank you so much #justdavid always appreciate it 🙏
Thank you David. As an ARMY who does not speak Korean, I have had a much deeper appreciation of their music thanks to you. Looking forward to more on your channel! 💜
This song and “Blue & Grey” are my favorites off the album. I tend to gravitate towards honest, deep, and poetic music and it’s funny how they both give off such a vibe through different styles. “Blue & Grey” is so melancholy. You are immediately and consistently immersed in this feeling of great sadness, although there is this hint of hope towards the end. On the other hand, “Dis-ease” has a very infectious and enticing sound to it. You wanna dance to it but jhope introduces a discussion about the real difficulties the group has experienced, the battle within one’s self, and so on. It picks up in the chorus and then the bridge... omg SO invigorating. The emotion and JK/Jimin’s vocals REALLY get to me every time. Like hobi said, the feeling of overcoming something really comes through so strongly and forcefully. The song itself is acknowledging your reality, facing that reality, and then finding a sense of resolve with or finding your way through that reality. That’s what it feels like to me. It’s just so empowering. It’s a whole journey. Hobi is a genius and BTS are legends 💜
J-hope has created a masterpiece! Definitely been my favourite song since the album was released but seeing the double meanings that I didn’t know before- wow! These guys give so much with each song but this one really hits different!
Thank you so much for this amazing explanation!!! 💜 J-Hope is such a creative and a smart person, the way he played with words is really incredible 💜 and i really liked that he put some idioms in it 💜 J-Hope is genius!!! 💜💜💜
it might be far fetched but my interpretation of the line “is it me or the world that is sick” could be about how this world is made to work for neurotypical people and if the roles where switched it would be the neurotypical people who where to be perceived as ill or sick I can also hear this message is the line “or is it just the differences in how we interpret what sick is?” ps: really happy for this video, dis-ease is my favourite of this album!☺️
J-Hope is creative He composed and wrote Most lyrics of the song .There were positive global responses to this song Many critics praised this song . Thank you for the explanation
Such a good song with an amazing message. You can always trust BTS to address important issues and voice their opinions about them through their music. Thank you so much for thoroughly explaining this song. 💜
this song is what I want to say this whole time.. pandemic.. i wanna relax dan rest.. but i keep feeling that i have to do something so i won't be useless.. i feel useless.. complicated but jhope just said it very well.. thank youu BTS💜
My favourite song in this album, the lyrics are perfect even for a non korean speaker... they made me feel like i'm not alone that they understand what we are going through... specially when you have a boss that thinks that staying home is a vacation, you become obsessed with results and you can't sleep because of anxiety and then you can't work because you are not well rested... i believe that they gave me the courage to seek consultation and it was the best decision i ever made, there are things in life you cannot change but you can change how you react to it, how it affects you, one step at the time
I really appreciate the "Explained by a Korean" videos, especially on such a layered song that includes great word play. I love the music and the theme, but the killer bridge is what's got me enthralled, listening to Dis-ease on repeat.
thanks for this David,. I'dd skim read an English translation of the song but hadn't really taken in the full meanings before, this was very enlightening
As someone who has Bipolar , with a husband that has early onset dementia; i thank you for doing this. I loved this song to begin with but it makes it easier to explain to my daughter. You are a great asset. Please continue to do the videos 🤗
DAVIIDD! ALWAYS LOVE YOUR EXPLAINED SONGS VIDEOS!!! Army's were already piecing the bits - especially with Namjoon's ill and work word sound play. But everything else, it's explained so beautifully in this video!! Waaah wowowowowow. It really adds a whole other added WOW jaw dropping factor to lyrics that were - on the surface- already amazing. Just. Amazinggggg!
I like that they express what they feel in their songs, since it seems they do not want to be labeled as weak. They should know that we don’t see them as weak when they cry or feel sad, they are wonderful men with a lot of love to give. Thank you so much for explaining this beautiful song. Greetings from Peru 💜
From lyrics to melody to over all vibe. You just can't deny how creative and talented they are. They made song so meaningful and beautiful and most importantly inspirational.
Thank you so much for this. 'Dis-ease' is actually my favorite track from BE; I just instantly fell in love with it. When J-Hope gave his explanation about his song and said that it also meant "bottle", I was like "this makes perfect sense, 'cause bottles are fragile, too. If you drop them, they break. If you drain them, they'll be left empty and hollow. If you fill them up too much, they won't be able to contain any air, thus drowning them." But bottles can, in the same context, be the enemy. Don't drink too much "coffee" and make it your "rest." (note: I'm not making any assumptions or pointing fingers, I'm merely amazed of the many ways one can interpret this song) Anyways, I apologize for this long comment. Again, thank you and stay safe.
Yeah, this song deserves more recognition! BTS never fails to give us songs that expresses themselves, something so real, something so relatable. It came into my life just exactly when I needed it I swear i was so sick and tired with all the songs trending that time,, they were all love songs and all about hope and i dunno it just made me feel more like crap cuz despite all this people are feeling all those love while I can't even see any hint of that in my life. Then there comes dis-ease and I am hooked in it after hearing it for the first time. I was able to kind of grasp the main message of the song, and it touched my heart so bad that it rised up to my personal charts. Watching this just gave me more evidence and proof of the main message that I was able to understand upon hearing it for the first time. I was able to find comfort in this song, it's just so relatable and I totally felt the connection, I can even use this song to express myself rn. They are just so real, and so human, and it takes a lot of courage to voice out what's really happening. BTS never fails to give me all this comfort whenever I needed them, that's why I stan them so bad!
I super love that they are so honest with their music & that they really put their souls into it. The way they state a problems of theirs & combat it with a realization & hopeful message after just feels empathizing. But rlly, This song is just top-tier. The production, the lyrics, the word plays, that amazing bridge... genius.
Thank you David. This is one of my favourite songs on the album and I felt the double meanings but learning about the Korean idiom and language nuances makes for a deeper understanding.
I really appreciate you explaining this for the non-Korean speakers in the room. One of the things I love about BTS is that, even though I don't speak the language, their performances always make me feel something. This is one of my favorite songs on the album as well. This and Telepathy were the two that I kept hitting repeat for the first day I listened to it. Understanding what the lyrics say really helps me understand why I am hitting repeat, if that makes sense. And the song reflects my situation during this pandemic even though I am in a completely different situation from them. My job has continued as normal because I am an essential worker, but I live alone and haven't seen family or friends in person for months. I haven't gotten an actual hug since March, which causes a whole additional level of dis-ease.
This is one of my faves songs of this album, maybe bc of the melody of bc of the lyric, I think it deserves a award itself. It's a masterpiece. Thank you for appreciate it like it should.
I always enjoy DKDKTV's 'Explained' series. It's asking for a lot but I wouldn't mind an 'Explained' series on the whole 'BE' album. Great job David! can't wait for the next one :)
Thank you so much for your effort to ensure that non-Korean speaking audience would understand all the hidden meaning of the word play. Out of all the verses, I love the bridge the most. It gives me that pump up feeling every time I listen to it. Now, knowing the meaning, I'm amazed by how BTS's sincerity can unbelievably be delivered to the listeners even when we don't understand a word. Coz I've been battling to relearn of who I really am and accepting my true self, my weak self. And it's as if the bridge talks directly to me. I'm so grateful for this song.
sometimes I see some people recommending bts rappers and they don't mention jhope. I think it is very disrespectful because they all have their own "color" and they know what they do, rap is not a competition of who does it faster or stronger. I know that everyone has their tastes but I hope they can also give Jhope a chance and recommend him too because his lyrics, although seen in “funny” rhythms, are very deep and have very deep meanings as well, he can give you that ray of light that you need in your life and prepare you to be able to see things with more positivity and move forward despite everything.
J-Hope's parts are what I look forward to the most. I'm rapline biased but also J-Hope is my ultimate bias for that reason he is so unique and he deserves so much more praise and recognition for what he's done and is doing with BTS
His part or verse is what i always excited for in a song.... If u listen to it... His lyrics really deep but j-hope geniusly makes it such a bop and so cool.
I cannot Express what these lyrics mean to me, it's incredible how many layers this song has. For me that's one one BTS strongest characteristics, you can always interpret a song for yourself, they don't force an opinion on you, it's more an encouragement think what it could mean for you. I got several new ideas from this wonderful interpretation and as a non Korean speaker I wouldn't know what to do without you David. I agree with a lot of your opinions but I have also some thoughts of my own. I admitted to myself that my adhd is a chronic illness this year. It took way to much time, mental energy and many, many dark thoughts but I'm beginning to be okay with it. But most of the people arround me still think I'm just being lazy and stupid and it hurts like ... a lot. I believed that my whole life and messed with my mind to an unbelievable extent, so seing BTS talking about mental illnesses like this is really what I needed. It's the validation that it's okay to feel weak sometimes because I'm I'll. It feels like they believe in me to show everyone i' not stupid. I stopped believing that I can do anything and not fail so many years ago, it feels like my whole life. And now they tell me to fight ON, to believe in myself, to love myself... They truely are the reason I'm still here, if I want to admit it or not. Without them I'd either be completely broken or dead by now. This year was so hard but messages like this are a little light that can help you find a way out of your own darkness. Thank you for explaining and translating David. I appreciate your work! And I'm glad to see the that you hopefully got paid for it this time ?
Damn the way the complex meaning of the lyrics and the rhythm of the song perfectly fit with each other really mesmerizes me! Dis-ease is my favourite song of the album
OH MY GOOOD this is so GOOOD lmfao. I have a hard time understanding the song with the usual translations found online, but this video makes everything so clear, and it makes me love the song even more (this was already my favorite song in the album and it just got better). Plus, learning Korean myself, learning about the idioms and the wordplays make me realise how smart BTS is!! This is so great, thank you!
Korean, just like all languages, it has its own unique saying and expressions. Thank you very much David Kim for taking the time in your videos to explain.
Thank you for that explanation. I know their music is deep, so many layers from the complexity of the music, production, and design up to the word play, lyrics, and interpretations. What I really appreciate is the explanation of the Korean perspective because I just don’t have that available to me except through others. I trust and enjoy your interpretations. Happy Holidays!

That's it. That's why I love them so much. Yes, they're cute, and charming, and they all had charismatic and beautiful personalities, but the reason I love them is the way they channel thneselves into their music. They're so sincere, it truly inspires me.

Great explanation as always by David. This is the reason why I started watching his channel with Danny (DKDKTV). Glad to see him getting a wider audience. Looking forward to more vids like this.
Thank you for your explanation of the song. BTS'S whole album BE is a true gem. Every song has a special meaning. I would appreciate it if you can give your personnel inside on every song. My favorite song is: Fly to my room. I can relate to it. I've been in the hospital during COVID19 (not because of Corona but, due to colon cancer) so my world was actually very small. People couldn't visit me because of the pandemic. I 🙏 really hope that BTS will do something new and special with their album BE. I hope that they'll make for every song an official musicvideo. It would mean the world to me (I think for more people). This is truly for me personelly a healing album. So I'm greatfull to BTS for making all these songs. I won't be able to say thank you in person to RM, Suga, JHope, Jin, Jungkook, V, Jimin because they don't know me and I don't personnely know Them. I have their album. I know I can't read Korean but, that's okay. Listening to their songs are enough to me. It helps me. It gives me hope because; Life goes on.
Hobi is a genius and BTS are legends 💜
j-hope is amazing💜
Dis-ease Masterpiece
J-hope has created a masterpiece! Definitely been my favourite song since the album was released but seeing the double meanings that I didn’t know before- wow! These guys give so much with each song but this one really hits different!
Thank you so much for this amazing explanation!!! 💜
J-Hope is such a creative and a smart person, the way he played with words is really incredible 💜 and i really liked that he put some idioms in it 💜
J-Hope is genius!!! 💜💜💜
💯💯💯
Thank You so much for this.
It's j-hope's song so the clever wordplay and Ingenuity is VERY Expected.
Agree 💯
it might be far fetched but my interpretation of the line “is it me or the world that is sick” could be about how this world is made to work for neurotypical people and if the roles where switched it would be the neurotypical people who where to be perceived as ill or sick I can also hear this message is the line “or is it just the differences in how we interpret what sick is?” ps: really happy for this video, dis-ease is my favourite of this album!☺️
Yeah I too interpreted it like that, BTS songs are always so objective yet subjective and straightforward
that's actually a great way of looking at the lyrics, i never thought of that!
I agree. The narrative that "evil people are sick" is ableist because it implies that mental illnesses make people evil which is super not okay!!
The fact that disease/dis-ease is posted in this channel is such a great move. I hope these would reach Koreans hearts.
J-Hope is creative He composed and wrote Most lyrics of the song .There were positive global responses to this song Many critics praised this song . Thank you for the explanation
Legend Jung Hoseok aka j-hope did an amazing song once again.
이번 앨범에서 제일 주목할만한 곡이죠 감사합니다
Such a good song with an amazing message. You can always trust BTS to address important issues and voice their opinions about them through their music. Thank you so much for thoroughly explaining this song. 💜
Thank you! I really needed this! Dis-ease destroys my replay button! I jam to it every single day... 💜
this song is what I want to say this whole time.. pandemic.. i wanna relax dan rest.. but i keep feeling that i have to do something so i won't be useless.. i feel useless.. complicated but jhope just said it very well.. thank youu BTS💜
My favourite song in this album, the lyrics are perfect even for a non korean speaker... they made me feel like i'm not alone that they understand what we are going through... specially when you have a boss that thinks that staying home is a vacation, you become obsessed with results and you can't sleep because of anxiety and then you can't work because you are not well rested... i believe that they gave me the courage to seek consultation and it was the best decision i ever made, there are things in life you cannot change but you can change how you react to it, how it affects you, one step at the time
So thankful every time David explains the Korean lyrics of BTS songs!! I’m not Korean but love knowing more about the culture! Thanks David!!
This is a great explained! Thank you for giving Dis-ease love!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Yes!
My favourite series
제이홉 음악까지 잘만드냐 알면알수록 진짜다ㅠ 제이홉 알엠 슈가부분 중의적표현이나 언어유희들 정말 잘 설명해주시네요 고맙습니다.
Just. Amazinggggg!
this was already my favorite song off BE, but this video made me appreciate it 77,777,777,777,777 times more than I did before...
I’m loving BTS day by day. Their songs are really such a great positivity to my life.
This has rapidly become my favorite song...no my favorite is Telepathy...no Fly to My Room...
...there's not a single song I don't like on BE!
The album is so dam good 💜
Beautifully written & interpreted as well... Well done!!
Wow! VisitSeoul TV and DKDKTV my favorite Korean YT Channels!!😊 Thank you David for the song's explanation!💜
From lyrics to melody to over all vibe. You just can't deny how creative and talented they are. They made song so meaningful and beautiful and most importantly inspirational.
The way our king jhope wrote the lyrics in such deep meanings.🔥 dis-ease is a masterpiece..
Don't drink too much "coffee" and make it your "rest." (note: I'm not making any assumptions or pointing fingers, I'm merely amazed of the many ways one can interpret this song)
Anyways, I apologize for this long comment.
Again, thank you and stay safe.
Yeah, this song deserves more recognition! BTS never fails to give us songs that expresses themselves, something so real, something so relatable. It came into my life just exactly when I needed it
I swear i was so sick and tired with all the songs trending that time,, they were all love songs and all about hope and i dunno it just made me feel more like crap cuz despite all this people are feeling all those love while I can't even see any hint of that in my life.
I was missing David's reaction to bts songs and here now he explained it so well.
This is my favorite song on the album. I love the way it sounds and the rhythm and chorus. You just made me love it more. Thank you David!!
This is one of my favourite songs on the album and I felt the double meanings but learning about the Korean idiom and language nuances makes for a deeper understanding.
bts's songs already so meaningful for us but with you we can understand them better. thank u dkdktv :)
Omg i love how clearly you describe this song Thankyou so much i need this . Thankyou:) and jhope the main written and composer:)
sometimes I see some people recommending bts rappers and they don't mention jhope.
Siii, Mainly I think it was has a lot of rhythm, he gives strength to the songs ...🙂
Thank you David for this video. DKDKTV always has the best explanation videos. Love you guys 💕
Thank you, David, for sharing your understanding and perspective. I love this song for its sound and message. I can't get enough of it!
Thank you very much David Kim for taking the time in your videos to explain.
dis-ease continues to be my favorite b-side off their new album!! this is great. thank you!!
From an Spanish follower, I love discovering new facts about these songs, you made me love Baepsae with your video, and now I'm loving more Disease, THANK YOU
I loved. . .LOVED what you said at the end of the video, " 'Disease' is the kind of song that might help reduce anxiety and bring back courage and hope in our society."
Thank you for explaining it to us! It means so much to me because I know how the pandemic of Covid19 causes mental illness to a lot of people I know. And thank you BTS for your music for healing!
Thank you so much for your insight! Life Goes On & Dis-ease are my favorite songs on BE! I love the song even more now!
That's it. That's why I love them so much. Yes, they're cute, and charming, and they all had charismatic and beautiful personalities, but the reason I love them is the way they channel thneselves into their music. They're so sincere, it truly inspires me.
thank you so much for the breakdown, david! dis-ease was just recently released, but has got me through some hard times with it's unique, triumphant instrumentals and inspiring lyrics. this is why i stan bts and will continue to do so!
David serves deeper explained videos again! Yaaas!! Amazing!!! It's truly meaningful with deep messages plus as jhope said, the beat is a hopeful vibe rounding off with the final bridge to really give you that blast of sunshine like YOU CAN DO THIS! omg love it!!!
Also the VIDEO EDITING HERE WOW especially that bridge part, perfectly done, can be a FMV, yes i will like and share. Love this!
This is my favorite song off the Album! Whenever I hear the bridge I feel inspired :) So happy you decided to do this one! 😀💜
plzzz dis-ease is my favorite on the album followed by the first gods why is everything that jhope makes so amazing interesting breakdown though. Jueez the more i watch the more i recognize their lyrical genius dang. Thank you for this. Wowo this is a verbal precis.
Thank you so much VISIT SOUL × DKDKTV. We're able to understand the meaning behind the song and appreciate their hard work. Jhope is really a genius. The lyrics are motivating me to work hard because my idol does so. Thank you again
this song its soo amazing. It's actually my favorite song from the "BE" album and it has such an amazing message but also its a freaking sexy melody. I can't wait for them to be able to perform it live
Thank you David!! I'm so glad I found this video! I was eagerly waiting for the #Dkdktv explanation to this song since "BE" came out! 💜 Love the song, lyrics, the old school hiphop and the changes inside a single song!! Masterpiece 👏🤩Thank you J-hope and BTS for you comforting hug in form of the "BE" album!
P.s. thank you David for emphasising the other traks on the album. The billboard hot 100 achievements are amazing, and we are so proud, but in my opinion the other traks are amazing too and definitely need more attention! Thank you for that! Have a happy, healthy new year everyone 💜
Thank you for this explanation and for your take on how it might help Korean society be more accepting of mental-emotional illness. Even before I learned what the song is about, it was my favorite song for its beat/vibe/feel. And being a psychotherapist, I appreciate the song and message even more now
Yes! Finally! Been waiting for your "explaination" or "reaction" video. Love love 💜💜💜
I was waiting and hoping to this video to be released. Great job David
yall i know times are though but stay strong i believe in you and keep in mind that after all we are so lucky to have bts💜💜
Thank you as always for taking the time to make these explained videos ❤️ they always bring new meaning to the songs we already love, we appreciate you!
My favorite song is:
Fly to my room.
It helps me. It gives me hope because;
Life goes on.
Wishing all members of BTS all the best in the world.
💜🍀🇳🇱🌷
You make my day, I love this song. Thank you for bringing more meaning to it.
I loved this explanation. BTS makes meaningful songs that all people can relate to. That’s why they have such a huge fanbase. 👏
This is a fantastic analysis. Thank you so much for this video and walking us all through it. The editing is really nice as well. 🥰
