Back in the 1980’s my father had an auto mower that lasted about a decade. All he had to do was feed it Cheerios and beat it occasionally and it would do a decent job of mowing the yard. He complained about the 9 year set up and training time but after that it only took reminding and maybe a shout to get it started. Things went well till it discovered girls and pot, then the mowing became sporadic and half ass. Then suddenly one day the mower just quit and moved on to a much smaller yard. I’m waiting for my auto mower to age and learn the yard.
Just got two 450HX's. Love them. I'm working on automating up to 75% of the University's grounds staff mowing responsibilities. They are so much fun to work on/with. Can't wait to get the rest of the fleet going.
@@JackAustin613 Nah. SInce I've h ad my 450X, I actually spend more time working on the yard instead of setting on my arse and riding a machine all day. The mower just does the mundane crap that eats up your day.
I've had one of these for six years and it is the best thing I've ever bought. In Scotland we don't have the problem of the soil drying out - more the reverse. I tend to run it on second shortest cut height. Moss is a problem in most lawns round here and the Automower has completely eliminated it somehow. I think maybe because the daily mowing gives a nice mouthful for an earth worm and we now have a fantastic population of them which helps with aeration and drainage. There is a clear line where it cuts near my drive - moss-free where it cuts, mossy where it doesn't. Our wet weather also means that if you have a conventional mower you might not have suitable conditions for days so you have to catch the grass and cart it off when you do get to it. This takes nutrients out of your ground which need to be replaced. My grass is always freshly trimmed whatever the weather, no matter if I have been away or busy working.
I did the layout and installation by studying the on line videos Husqvarna had on the web th-cam.com/users/postUgkx2KDztGvdU79XTmlqIMSUyPq8CjprGJOR also recommended it When I started the unit it stated it would take a few days to learn all the spots in the yard. So I thought it was just finding the areas till I noticed it was cutting. It is so quite you don't know it is cutting.
Saves us time and this will mow in the rain. Also, we would have to pay someone $100 a pop to mow our yard. In the middle of growing season, that can be twice a week. The cost of this mower will pay for itself in one season of paying someone to mow AND we have time freedom. Yard always looks great and we won't have to buy a new mower in 5 years.
@@harryeichelberger4799 I actually work making these mowers in Czech Republic and it's funny to see how badly scratched it is cause we are told to pay extra attention to not scratch the bodywork at all
Because the people who can afford these are the ones who typically pay a lot for a landscape company to do the yard work for them . Hundreds if not a grand a month or more during the growing season depending on how big the estate is. Lawn care companies don't care to much about losing the customers that only net them 25-50 per mow but do care about those big ticket customers
I have the 430x and after three years it’s still going well. 2017-2020 I have not spent a penny on maintenance or battery changes and have not had any boundary wire brakes, so do it right first time and burry it. I my mower does just over 1/2 a acer without any problems. You can set your system up so you don’t have to do any trimming, if you set it to over run the boundary wire and have a solid surface that it’s runs over like a flush brick edging then you will have no trimming to do. I would not hesitate in buying another one. If you have a short flat lawn this will make it look like a golf course green it’s that good. Changing blades takes about 5 minutes. I change my blades every month. They will last a longer but as the blades are so cheap and only takes 5 minutes i changes them every month. If you want to know any more from someone that’s now in it’s fourth year of mowing let me know.
My 450 is going into the 4th season. My lawn looks great. Minimal attention is needed, mostly blade maintenance. Mowing is time you will never get back :-)
@@42swissmocha it's a robotic mower. They had one on display and another in action in September at their dealer meeting. It had stripes in the area it was mowing in the morning. But by the end of the day they were gone because they were running in non stop in the same tiny area.
I’ve got one....it’s worth it’s weight in gold. It frees up 3 hours a week, it mows while I sip margaritas and watch the Cubs. It’s quiet, it’s electric, it does a great job....what’s not to love? And when I sell my home in a few years....I’ll take the male prospective buyers and point out that they’ll never mow again. It was cheaper than replacing my riding mower.
f green There’s no robot trimmers yet so you will still have to trim your yard. I think it goes from the front yard to the back yard automatically with its GPS system unless you have a fenced in back yard like he said he has in this video, then he would have to carry it into the back yard but now he mows it himself.
Hello everyone. Automower installer here in Easley SC. In order to understand how the Automower works, you can't compare it to a traditional mower because it works differently. Once installed and cutting the grass daily for several hours per day (timer depends on the yard size, it's complexities and type of grass) It then never has to cut tall grass again because the grass never gets a chance to get long. Just like any plant, when you cut more than 10% at one time, you keep the plant in shock and un-healthy. When the Automower cuts 1/8" to 1/4" of the blade length, there are many positive results. The grass gets healthier, you never have dead grass laying on top of the lawn, you dont get thatch buildup, the tiny bits of grass that do drop, turn into food fast and create an even moisture barrier meaning the grass needs less watering. There are even some lawn pests like fire ants and moles that don't like the daily movement of the Automower, so they leave the area being cut. Other benefits include, the lawn is always cut, no more big smelly mower in the garage, the maintenance drops to near zero. Instead of keeping up with the mechanics of a traditional mower, (oil, filter, spark plugs, gas ETC) Your maintanence becomes about $12 per year in new blades and you change them with a phillips head screwdriver. If you do need your dealer, the current heaviest model (cuts 1-1/4 acre) weighs 30 pounds. Just put it in your trunk and take it to the dealer. After 2 years of selling and installing the Automower, the only ones we've had come in are damage from outside sources. All this said, Automower is not for everyone or every property. If you love to ride or push a mower, Automower is not for you. Some grass types are too much for the current models (the company is working on those) It cuts random, so no striping. (although, even customers who were concerned with lines, are very happy with the carpet-like appearance the Automower offers) The mower does do what the manufacturer claims. It's funny to read what folks who have no experience have to say about this 23 year old technology. Yep, Husqvarne has been selling them since 1995. Now that there is an app that connects the owner to the mower, sales are blowing up. With a 60 day money back satisfaction guarantee, most folks should be able to consider the chance that the product is the real deal. I liken it to the microwave, folks didn't think they wanted one, once owned, they do not want to be without it. Happy mowing. Easley Lawn and Garden 864-859-1678
You have a dish washer... " Taking away jobs!" You have a washing machine...."Taking away Jobs!" You have a sewer connection... "Taking away jobs!" Do people not know Robotic farming is the next stage?
Eden I am mocking the Luddites out there bashing robotic technology. I work in horticulture so anything to reduce the mundane chore work is a benefit. The benefit of robotic farming is it can work day and night, when a human only has the day time and need rest. If someone refute "what if the robot breaks down?" it would be the same as if a tractor breaks down you fix it.
Look. You call us people who say it's taking away jobs "crazy conspiracy theorists" but just wait until your job is replaced by a robot, then you get a new job, then it's replaced by a robot, then it just repeats and you won't be able to get a job, so you'll starve to death. ............Today's kids won't mow grass.........If you find one that's willing he won't know his ass from a hole in the ground. Lawn care companies charge too much.................THIS machine is the answer for lots of people.
Yes, and what is your point? Imagine the moment harvesters were invented. All those people losing their jobs just like that, all the extra food we now have. Less man hours is the future, we already went from 6 days work weeks to 5 and many companies even have shorter hours these days.

.............Come on..........Good luck finding Americans who would take a job harvesting cow corn by hand. Seasonal, back breaking labor ......nobody misses it. That's my point.
I can't believe you're taking away jobs! You probably have a washing machine too...way to keep those ladies down by the river beating cloth on rocks homeless! /S
Whats better is beating cloth on rocks for money when you're homeless from the lawsuit you got when little Timmy lost a foot takin a peak at the neighborhood psycho "Johnny Unattended Spinny Blades"
This is a different type of taking away jobs. Lawn maintenance has only gotten easier with Zero turn mowers and etc... It offers a guaranteed fall back for some people that may lose their main job in the summer or just need some quick cash they can mow some lawns to cover the difference or bills. This thing is $3500 dollars. Like WTF kind of home owner will buy that? Besides what is to stop thieves from walking up and jacking the thing and reselling it. Like really? For 3500 i'd rather have 1/3 of the biggest most bad ass Zero turn mower. That shit would cut this guys lawn in 3 minutes. Wayyy easier maintenance, wayyy easier service, and makes much more sense. Not to mention versatile
WestOfAsh Even if thieves do jack the mower than if the owner is rich enough to afford to drop 3500 on the robot in the first place than nothing will stop him/her from just going out and immediately buying another one to replace it...
I had the company who sold it to install the wire for a small fee. They had a proper petrol machine that dug down the wire and they did it in 10 minuters. Never had a wire problem for 3 years. And you should try not to have it working night time. Animal like hedgehogs gets really hurt or killed by them since they hunt at night and dont run away when the mower shows up
This video was posted in 2017. How has the unit progressed in the two years since? Has it gotten better? Thanks for any insight. I have more questions as well.
How big is your yard? I used three hours to mowe the lawn with a tractor and push mower for our yard, and bought a hq 420 a couple of years ago for approximately $1900 here in Sweden, and it covers it with ease. Sure enough, during spring and early summer when the grass is growing rapidly the robot runs probably 12h/day, but from July-October I have it run for two days with one day resting. A friend of mine have a 450 that cuts more than 50% more than it's rated for without a problem - sure, in spring some areas of the grass is growing a bit longer than mine, but never so long that it becomes a problem for the mower. 👍
If my yard wasn't so sloped I'd have one of these; mowing sucks up a bunch of weekend time for me, my son plays soccer and T-ball, so I refuse to miss those games & practices, but I'm such a cheap SOB that I won't pay someone else to take care of my yard; good review.
Bought and had the 450X installed early last spring. They used a small ditching machine to install the guide wires. Our lawn was basically solid yellow in spring, thick with plantain and a number of other weeds including about 1/4 acre of heavy moss. During the spring and early summer we cut it continuously at about 1.75 inches and during the the hot summer once every 10 days. By fall almost no weeds, no mossy areas at all and looked the best it ever has. All the trees and shrubs/landscaping has been edged with 12" wide paving bricks with weed barrier under them level with the surface of the lawn, absolute no trimming needed. There is no watering system and the natural wild grasses did not turn brown like our neighbors Kentucky blue grass with a sprinkler system did. We have three zones with guide wires for a total of 2 acres. It is now 04.30.2018 and no yellow dandelion blooms and very few weeds. They told us each growing season we would see fewer and fewer weeds. It's total cost was less than the previous growing seasons mowing/trimming costs by a local lawn care service. Being wheelchair bound this gives me more fun money for other projects! By the way my Grandson named it Ka-Chow after his favorite car-tune character.
would love to have one, but I would be worried if someone come by and steal it. Thieves stealing packages from porches is there a a security feature to deter thieves?
I'm on my 3rd```Husqvarna robot lawnmower. The first was a 330X that died after 2 years and a lot of maintenance. I thought I’d give it a second try and bought a 430X when it came to market. It had stopped by the road and was picked up and crushed by the municipal trash disposal company the very first day after I installed it. Fortunately, the credit card I used to purchase it had an insurance policy and the card company replaced it. The lesson learned there is, don’t complain about credit card annual fees if the card carries benefits such as loss insurance. The 430X does an excellent job of cutting. Having said that, it is a relatively high maintenance system. I’ve already replaced the cutting motor after only a few months of use. Fortunately, it was covered under warranty. The GPS system is ineffective so I use the guide wire program method to obtain better lawn coverage. The remote app is full of bugs and disconnects and/or crashes routinely. If you have grounds keepers or lawn sprinkler service personnel servicing your property, it’s best to make sure that the boundary and guide wires are buried at least 6 inches (150 millimeters) deep. I have to trace and repair cut wires whenever they edge the beds or the sprinkler company digs up lines that the grounds keepers have cut. Finding wire breaks is not as easy as some make it sound and can be very time consuming. I use the USB port and diagnostic program to troubleshoot the mower. My primary residence is in Florida and I have Zoysia grass. The best cutting results next to a drum type mover have been obtained with the 430X. It gets quite hot here in the summer and pushing a drum mower around can be exhausting. I have a love/hate relationship with the 430X.
Hi im Darren from Ireland and I'm instilling them into gardens the last 4 or 5 months now and must have about 150 installed and there really good and work good and it's a cheap way the get the grass cut 😊😊😊
My 450X cuts for about 4:15 hours and charges for about 1:15 which is the specified duty cycle. I have it on 13:30 hours a day. My lot is about 1.2 acres with several stands of bushes, 16 mature hardwoods and 16 mature Norway spruce and significant plantings around the house and brick walks front and back.
As a lawn guy, I'm not too worried about losing my carrier to this thing yet. Lol. Eventually everything will change. We just have to learn and adapt. That's how we progress.
Wondering over all cost per lawn mowing... how long until you have to replace the unit with a new one? So if you would have to pay someone $200/month to mow, and husqvarna costs $1200, and if you mow six months a year, then at six months you would break even, or after one year's mowing. How many years does the average Husqvarna last? If it lasts six years, then cost is $200 per year plus electricity, water, replacement blades, and service.
I’ve been wanting something like this for years and then a while back seen an ad by husqvarna. I’m a long haul trucker and hate to come off the road and have to mow the yard. A friend does it sometimes but terribly. I hire a part time landscaper that usually does a good job but isn’t dependable. Hired full time landscaper but he only showed up once. I’m not ready to buy one yet. I’m hoping they will get really advanced within five years or so before I buy. I’ve read a comment that they have a gasoline version. I’d like to be able to leave one in the garage for safe keeping then come in on the weekend and just fire it up and let it go while I do other things. Thanks for making this video, you really answered about all of my questions.
There are some work-alleviating advances for which I thank God. One example is the washing machine and dryer, another is the dish washer. After your excellent breakdown on how this little mower works, I may be adding it to my list. For all of you haters of modern inventions, think of it this way. You could be doing something amazing, inventing something really cool, or you could be sitting on a mower going round and round in your yard every two weeks. Your choice, but I would rather spend my time creating.

.......don't let these comments affect your decision.....these folks resent a machine that has removed them from the process. They are inventing problems that don't actually exist. I felt the same as you......my summers are short. After some work installing a permanent border.........the work is over.....forever. The lawn looks great and I haven't spent one minute on it. I forget what gas smells like. Do it.......you won't regret it.
Great review, you are right, I'm going to be the 50 percent who won't buy it because of the cut height issue. We have watering restrictions, can only water twice a week at best, so I keep my grass at 4 inches to help protect the roots during summer heat. Also, was a little surprised it can't be washed with a water hose.. Thanks for saving me the trouble, hope yours works out for you. Jim
Hey jimmyturpin. I'm considering one of these and see that there is a 450XH model that cuts up to 3.6". A bit closer to your needs maybe? The longer the better for sure. Cheers
@@fbvisitor Hey, thanks so much for the info! I'll check it out! I'm in the process of "child-proofing" my back yard this year for an auto-mower I hope to buy next year. The goal is to have grass free safe boundaries around the perimeter of everything so I won't even have to string trim either. Thanks again!
@@fbvisitor I did follow up, see they also have the 430XH, the little brother to the 450XH. That model also cuts to 3.6" and is more size appropriate for my yard, and my wallet. ;) Thanks again for the tip. For a while there I was feeling us tall grass folks were just out of luck.
I love my 450x. Bury the wire, especially if you have dogs. My mower runs non stop and scheduled to sleep during irrigation. Built two mower doors in my black aluminum fence so the mower never crosses the driveway. It cuts all the way to the curb, crosses the sidewalk. I do have a complicated lawn and used the guide wire. Makes a big difference because it will mow till 5% left then go charge. It has never died trying to find the charging house. I now only spend 20 mins weed eating every other week....the unit is only $3,500 compared to a nice zero turn that takes up space in your garage....simple ROI.
I like mowing but one more thing not to worry about is awesome! It's not being lazy, it's just another option. Save time and shed space, I wish they weren't so spendy, but selling the mower for it might be an option.
My 74 year old mother can barely handle a mower anymore and by 80 I doubt she will be able to handle her own yard any longer so something like this would be awesome for her. The elderly, and the handicapped this would be awesome for but maybe in 10-15 years when the price is down around 300-500 dollars.
These have been around for about 15 years in Sweden, and the price really hasn't dropped much. I think the problem is that Husqvarna has patents that make their mowers the only real alternative, if you want reliability and efficiency. But once their patents run out, the competition will be a lot tougher.
if you can bury the wire can you also put it in some kind of protective plastic tubing and the machine still be able to detect the wire? I am afraid it might get cut while digging, roots, etc.
Do you need a wire along a fence? Will it mow recharge then continue mowing? We have a bunch of very large pine trees and the limbs hang down low to the ground, can it deal with something like this? Can you use two or three at one time to mow a larger area, will they talk to each other and work as a teem? Thanks for the video, we are tired of mowing grass.
I live in East TX, and actually am a dealer for both traditional lawn mowers and Husqvarna's robotic mower. I, too, was a skeptic, until I put the Automower into use myself. When I sell a traditional lawnmower, I recommend that the customer not cut any lower than about 3". I also recommend that they not cut more than 1/2 the length of the grass, so that they don't "scalp" their lawn and cut all the moisture out of the grass. I have not found Automower's cut height to be a challenge at all, and I have units in various types of grass, from my own lawn which is primarily Centipede, to customers who have the most lush St. Augustine and Zoysia I have ever seen, to one customer whose property is in the middle of a cow pasture and has the typical mix of grass that you would find in a pasture, including Bahiagrass. There are a couple of reasons why the shorter cut height works. One is that the mower keeps the grass maintained at the same level all the time (keep short grass short). This means that even with the shorter grass, the moisture is not being cut out. In addition, the lighter weight of the unit coupled with the sharper cut of the razor blades puts less pressure on the grass. In my experience with the 5 units I have in the field plus the one that I own, the mower works on every kind of grass we have put it up against and the grass quality has actually improved over time. In addition, Husqvarna is coming out with a unit that will have a bit higher cut height this year. I believe it will be available by April.
I realized this video as 4 years old. However the one question I've never seen anybody answer, As how does it do in a yard that may have ruts or holes. I just recently bought a house that the yard is overgrown it's overgrown and they had dogs that would previously dig holes in it. And all I have is a push mower
I have had a Husqvarna 450x for 14 months. I was concerned about the cutting height at first, but my experience is that the very short clippings fall between the grass blades and form a mulch that keeps my lawn greener in the hot summer than my neighbors' lawns . I can walk across my lawn when the dew is still on the grass and not have clippings on my shoes; this is a great feature when you have many grandchildren coming in and out of the house. I continue to treat the lawn with fertilizers, weed killers, and weed preventives as I have for the last 30 years. I like the smooth trackless look that is always manicured. I change the blades every two weeks.
G Rogers Howard * Would you reconsider using the weed killers especially if you have grandkids? Check out MIT scientist Stephanie Seneff's presentations here on TH-cam on glyphosate.
I have four separate lawn areas not connected, two around the back (secure) two on the street. One of the areas on the street is a really odd shape and not really sure the machine would work even with all the wires installed i.e. narrow strip with trees in it. Also I would not want to leave the machine outside to dock and charge which I guess defeats the object i.e. you are supposed to leave it out then it can do it's job over a long period and return tot he charger so it doesn't sound the tool for me. Am getting less fussy about lines on the lawn though.
Would buy it now except for the mowing height. I've tried mowing at the height of this mower and I get MORE weeds because the short grass gives weeds more sun. I have to cut 3.5 to 4 inches to keep weeds under control. So, Husqvarna you can have a new customer if you'll fix this issue!
i have a question, i have 2 acre of land, covered with rare grass, it is very dry and it has a lot of vetch. If i mow the ranch perfectly, will this robot be enough to cut that yellow dry grass?
I had a similar unit, a WORX, it was supported by a local company(Robin). The issue I had was that it got stolen every few months(I got you on video twice red truck!!). The company would track it down and or replace the unit no problem. I also had issues with the guide line getting cut, but again, the company fixed the issue with no problem. Some times the unit would get suck and I would get home from work to notice, the lawn had not been mowed all day because it was stuck on the corner of our garden. I just grew tire of dealing with this and constantly babysitting the unit. Every time there was an issue, I would loose a day of mowing, if I could fix it myself, or nearly a week if I needed the company to fix the issue. To its credit, when it ran, it ran. I could go a month without issue and it was awesome, then the issues would start in and I would spend a month chasing after one issue then the next trying to keep this system on track. I've heard there is a robot edger and trimmer too, but after my experience, I've lost interest for now. I'll let other spend the next few years working through the issues.

...........Most of these problems are not the mower's fault.......My Husky never gets trapped in a corner and is useless to a thief.
I tried for almost a year to buy one and they made the process so frustrating I just gave up and that was even after sending the CEO an email, which he indirectly responded to by having a flunky contact me. Didn’t make things any easier though.
I install and repair these units you can actually run 1400 meters which I do every other day and its always best to run the loop wire and guide wire under your lawn plus you can program it from your phone.
QUESTION: If trees in the yard drop twigs and leaves, must I constantly be clearing the yard of these items so that the automower can properly operate OR will the automower run over leaves/twigs, and still get the grass mowed.... with me getting the leaves/twigs up at my leisure? Thank you!
Small twigs and cones are no problem, although they shorten the life of the knives somewhat. Leaves are absolutely no problem, at least in normal amounts. Large fruits like apples may be a problem at times. You should pick them up regularly, or make the area around the apple trees a separate zone that is mowed less often, or even only on demand after you have cleared the ground.
Nice review. I mow somewhere around 3-4 acres, so I've been looking to get a 450xh to at least mow the main part of the yard and save me time on how much I need to cut. I'd been hoping to wait for the EPOS model to not worry about a wire because maybe I want to change which parts I have it mow or want to reconfigure the boundary a few times while I figure out which areas to use it. However, I've heard rumors they've been having issues with the EPOS versions, and would explain why they still haven't been released. All the comments from people that love theirs helps me though. @1:14 "Every other day or every other day" lol.
Rain is not an issue! My sister lives by a river which flooded and their mower went 100km down the river, ended up landing on an island a few days later and started mowing it! They were able to retrieve it and it was still going! True story!
And if the yard is about two acres? I’m thinking it might be great in Florida where it rains constantly? Is the price of having someone lay the guidewire prohibitive?
Was thinking of getting this unit. 1 question. Does it detect dog shit? I still can't find the culprit for such waste on my yard. Unbelievable how someone could own a dog and not clean up after their mess.
Maybe I didn't scroll far enough, but what prevents someone from walking off with this, a not-cheap, portable tech device? A phone alert isn't going to matter much if I'm asleep or away from home.
I’ve been looking at the “H” models. Says they’ll cut up to 3.6 inches. Is that what you meant in your video about it cutting too low. So if you could trade it in, would you go with an H model?
I am a stihl tech we have a I mow how much does it cost and can a customer by it and install it them self or does it have to be installed by a certified installer
Great invention! I just don’t have the money to afford that as well as your boat, car lift, and the huge house with a huge lawn. So, I gots to do it “old school”, following my $400 Husqvarna AWD lawn mower.
Nice that you think of taking care of your Mom and Dad. 😊 I'm sure especially your Dad will get a kick out of it. I've had the 450X for 2 years, and it works great.
I think that this is brilliant I work away for weeks at a time and cannot rely on anyone to do a proper job at mowing my lawn. I just wish it was able to cut more area... might think about a couple.
Looks like need a few more generations till it’s perfect but can see a market for elderly or medically challenged. Where they still go out and enjoy a quick yard work.
Excellent I have one coming Wednesday. It has the installation with it. I've never used one of these and in fact I've never seen one in my life other then watching these videos. I'm pretty excited to get it. I have the 430X tho. Not sure what the difference is. Mine is probably smaller then yours.
What's to keep it from cutting a larger yard? Can you set it to run, say, 8 hours a day every day? Say, at night? Or is 1.25 acres (5000 m2 or 55000 sq ft) the most it can do running 24-7 with charging time?
All the videos I’ve seen of auto mowers I can’t tell that it’s actually cutting the grass. And it’s seems to jump around and not stick to a set path so the lines and tracks in the yard look rough as heck.
I am looking to buy a 450X. My plan is to install the boundary wires with a gas powered edger. Do you think that will work out ok? My ground is not terribly hard.
This looks good for to reduce time on a repetitive task. It should be able to last long as long as the blade and battery can be removed for maintenance and replacement if needed
Hey man great video! I work at Lowe’s in Oklahoma and we just got these in our store. We call it the lawn mower rumba. I want one but sadly don’t have a yard. We do installs at our store and I think this is going to be the future of landscaping. One thing I like about is we have it running in the store 24-7. It has no blades of course but it’s so quiet! I agree with you, I think the cut height should be longer. With a lot your size would you consider having 2 or does 1 do the job? SUBSCRIBED
That's allot of work. Voids warranty. And if it gets stuck out in the rain it won't be water proof /resistant.. Their for voiding warranty. Forking up the kind of money you could buy a lawn tractor with. You shouldn't have to modified a 3k unit to cut grass taller I'm sorry.
Easy to block up the charger 2" and inside the mower block down the wheels 2". putting on larger wheels could overload the motor by changing the drive ratio,
No way just wait until a better machine comes out. And it will. When they get more popular the price will come down as well. Just a rich toy thing really right now. Wait till one gets the leaves chopped and collected in some trailer attachment.
@@sundown798 Agreed, too much about this doesnt meet most American standards, mainly the cutting height, other companies will recognize the shortcomings here and offer something better, cheaper.
But you don't get stripes. Lawn stripes look great. Dont u miss not pulling up and seeing nice checkered or diagonal stripes in your lawn? 2.5 is way short I mow my lawn at 4 inches. It keeps the lawn green and makes it really hard for weeds to sprout up. Seems like more cons than pros. Cool video though
Does it have a feature to where it wont work if someone steals it? If you have a fenced in yard can you just turn it loose without all the underground wiring? The short mowing height is a deal breaker for me also. St. Augustine needs to be mowed higher. Maybe somebody else makes a model that cuts higher
@@kmillard81 cutting height is 2.4" from every spec I've seen on it plus he even says that in this video. I cut at 4" because my 21,000 sq ft. yard has dips in it and it scalps some spots with a riding mower. Plus it's always over 90 degrees 3 months out of the year. Higher grass helps shade the ground.
I,had an Irobot mower(roomba company) that was a hand me down from a friend. It was basic but worked great. You had to drive it out to the yard and turn on. Had to get a new battery after about 8 years. At the end, it got stuck in a pothole in my yard and brick a gear. They stopped making them, otherwise I would still be using it.
It was from late 1990s. It was a model 500. It came out before the roomba did. Ihad it when I moved to my latest house in 2005 and I think it was about 6 or 7 years old back then. Then Irobot quit making them. My buddy paid $500 when he got it I would have bought another at that price.
Very detailed review, thank you for sharing. A very intriguing and interesting product! Looking forward to seeing more about these in the upcoming years.
thanks for the great video - Could you comment on what happens to the unit if it comes across raised obstructions e.g. tree roots, stones, tree branches, pine cones and large seed pods? Will the unit or discs/blades be damaged?
Warren Davis Blades will retract, ie fold back, and nothing will happen. I am sure they will dull faster. Worse case, the unit will get hung up on a large tree root and not be able to move. Overall, the u it will be fine in those situations.
If the obstacle is high enough to lift the front edge of the outer shell of the mower, the wheels and the cutter disk will both stop immediately, then the mower will back up, turn away, start the cutter disk and carry on mowing. If the obstacle gets under the mower, but is tall enough to get in contact with the 3 hinged cutting blades connected to the cutter disk, the light weight cutting blades will simply bounce back the opposite way and get out of the way as the mower simply keeps going. It's like the mower did not even notice it.. If you i.e. hit an apple, it will have 5-10 horizontal cuts "stacked" tightly in height when the mower has passed over it.
I'm interested in an automower because I'm getting on in years and don't want to zero-scape in order to stay in my home - I like a green yard. I don't have any luck with landscaping companies (they don't survive very long in my area for reasons I don't know), and find mowing the grass myself exhausting and it takes me a whole day. :P
I love my Roomba and if it works as well, I would buy it. Not taking care of leaves is a deal killer for me though because it would still require a mulch mower. Also, the below 3" height cut won't work in the South.
How much can it cut in 1 day? If it was in a 4000m2 garden (not so complicated, basically just open area), can it cut the grass well? Can it keep up? How long would it take to cut it all? Can it cut the whole place twice the week? Does it continue where it ran out of battery And does it know which part of the garden it cut?
Back in the 1980’s my father had an auto mower that lasted about a decade. All he had to do was feed it Cheerios and beat it occasionally and it would do a decent job of mowing the yard.
He complained about the 9 year set up and training time but after that it only took reminding and maybe a shout to get it started. Things went well till it discovered girls and pot, then the mowing became sporadic and half ass.
Then suddenly one day the mower just quit and moved on to a much smaller yard. I’m waiting for my auto mower to age and learn the yard.
This is awesome! Definitely made me laugh!
The true circle of life for men hahaha
Omg I had tears after reading that
Why can't I copy this

Just got two 450HX's. Love them. I'm working on automating up to 75% of the University's grounds staff mowing responsibilities. They are so much fun to work on/with. Can't wait to get the rest of the fleet going.
@@JackAustin613 Nah. SInce I've h ad my 450X, I actually spend more time working on the yard instead of setting on my arse and riding a machine all day. The mower just does the mundane crap that eats up your day.
I love the idea of mowing at night and of having the ability to have that fresh cut lawn 24/7
As for taking jobs away, how is this different than buying a regular mower and mowing your own yard?
And if these are built in America (probably not) that is a job net +
Most people buying these are doing so, so they don't have to mow themselves and don't have to pay someone to.
Mowing my lawn is my therapy..but now thanks to this, I can go to a real therapist..lol
Mowing is time you will never get back :-)
Year and throughout your washing machine. And go live in a cave if you want to be a real man! XD
When that thing can mow stripes, I'll get one.
That would be a good app addition
It doesent leave tire tracks so your lawn looks like a carpet all the time
Snapper has one that can stripe. Not sure when it will be released though
@@EshlemaniaTV is it gas or battery?
So is there anything manual you have to do? Like trimming, cleaning? Anything like that? How does the process work from going from back yard to front?
f green There’s no robot trimmers yet so you will still have to trim your yard. I think it goes from the front yard to the back yard automatically with its GPS system unless you have a fenced in back yard like he said he has in this video, then he would have to carry it into the back yard but now he mows it himself.
Hello everyone. Automower installer here in Easley SC. In order to
understand how the Automower works, you can't compare it to a
traditional mower because it works differently. Once installed and
cutting the grass daily for several hours per day (timer depends on the
yard size, it's complexities and type of grass) It then never has to cut
tall grass again because the grass never gets a chance to get long.
Just like any plant, when you cut more than 10% at one time, you keep
the plant in shock and un-healthy. When the Automower cuts 1/8" to 1/4"
of the blade length, there are many positive results. The grass gets
healthier, you never have dead grass laying on top of the lawn, you dont
get thatch buildup, the tiny bits of grass that do drop, turn into food
fast and create an even moisture barrier meaning the grass needs less
watering. There are even some lawn pests like fire ants and moles that
don't like the daily movement of the Automower, so they leave the area
being cut. Other benefits include, the lawn is always cut, no more big
smelly mower in the garage, the maintenance drops to near zero. Instead
of keeping up with the mechanics of a traditional mower, (oil, filter,
spark plugs, gas ETC) Your maintanence becomes about $12 per year in new
blades and you change them with a phillips head screwdriver. If you do
need your dealer, the current heaviest model (cuts 1-1/4 acre) weighs 30
pounds. Just put it in your trunk and take it to the dealer. After 2
years of selling and installing the Automower, the only ones we've had
come in are damage from outside sources.
All this said, Automower is
not for everyone or every property. If you love to ride or push a mower,
Automower is not for you. Some grass types are too much for the current
models (the company is working on those) It cuts random, so no
striping. (although, even customers who were concerned with lines, are
very happy with the carpet-like appearance the Automower offers)
The
mower does do what the manufacturer claims. It's funny to read what
folks who have no experience have to say about this 23 year old
technology. Yep, Husqvarne has been selling them since 1995. Now that
there is an app that connects the owner to the mower, sales are blowing
up. With a 60 day money back satisfaction guarantee, most folks should
be able to consider the chance that the product is the real deal.
I liken it to the microwave, folks didn't think they wanted one, once owned, they do not want to be without it.
Happy mowing.

Do people not know Robotic farming is the next stage?
We're warning you, AI is a bad idea.
............Today's kids won't mow grass.........If you find one that's willing he won't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

This comment made me laugh so hard.

Look at the new Worx models coming out. They are less expensive and might work for your yard.
@@WorkshopAddict agree, i have the 2019 Worx S300, works great on slopes, the app is brilliant too,
Bought and had the 450X installed early last spring.
Did your yellow grass come back over the winter?
He didn't go with Mowing McQueen? Can it be painted red? 😁
How are you feeling about this 3 years later? Thinking about getting the 350XH.
I just bought one for my wifes office building. Still love these.
would love to have one, but I would be worried if someone come by and steal it. Thieves stealing packages from porches is there a a security feature to deter thieves?
Yes, when it is picked up it has a siren and also notifies your phone. It has a GPS that will tell you its location, so cops could find it easily.
I'm on my 3rd```Husqvarna robot lawnmower. The first was a 330X that died after 2 years and a
lot of maintenance. I thought I’d give it a second try and bought a 430X when it
came to market. It had stopped by the road and was picked up and crushed by the
municipal trash disposal company the very first day after I installed it.
Fortunately, the credit card I used to purchase it had an insurance policy and
the card company replaced it. The lesson learned there is, don’t complain about
credit card annual fees if the card carries benefits such as loss insurance.
The 430X does an excellent job of cutting. Having said that, it is a relatively high maintenance system. I’ve
already replaced the cutting motor after only a few months of use. Fortunately,
it was covered under warranty. The GPS system is ineffective so I use the guide
wire program method to obtain better lawn coverage. The remote app is full of
bugs and disconnects and/or crashes routinely. If you have grounds keepers or
lawn sprinkler service personnel servicing your property, it’s best to make
sure that the boundary and guide wires are buried at least 6 inches (150
millimeters) deep. I have to trace and repair cut wires whenever they edge the
beds or the sprinkler company digs up lines that the grounds keepers have cut.
Finding wire breaks is not as easy as some make it sound and can be very time
consuming. I use the USB port and diagnostic program to troubleshoot the mower.
My primary residence is in Florida and I have Zoysia grass. The best cutting results next to a drum type
mover have been obtained with the 430X. It gets quite hot here in the summer
and pushing a drum mower around can be exhausting. I have a love/hate relationship
with the 430X.
Hi im Darren from Ireland and I'm instilling them into gardens the last 4 or 5 months now and must have about 150 installed and there really good and work good and it's a cheap way the get the grass cut 😊😊😊
I hope you have no trees or dogs.
Whats the issue with trees?

You mentioned a dog... how does it do when it runs into dog poop?
speckle/splatter paint style.
I like mowing but one more thing not to worry about is awesome! It's not being lazy, it's just another option. Save time and shed space, I wish they weren't so spendy, but selling the mower for it might be an option.
With time and especially as more products like this come out, the prices will drop drastically.
Patents don't last forever so maybe by the time I am my mother's age. Things that help humanity should not be allowed to be patented.
if you can bury the wire can you also put it in some kind of protective plastic tubing and the machine still be able to detect the wire? I am afraid it might get cut while digging, roots, etc.
You can put it in conduit without an issue.
It's been 3 years. Does it still work? Have you had any problems with it? Do you like it still?
Still works! I have had zero issues. I would get the model that can gut grass to 3.5 inches. This cuts it a bit short.
This is exactly what I was looking for, excellent review. Thanks mate!
Agree!!!
@@WorkshopAddict Husqvarna has released the "H" series automowers which have a maximum cut height of 3.6 inches.
Haw is the Automower working now in 2019? I'm interested in getting one of these.
i have a question, i have 2 acre of land, covered with rare grass, it is very dry and it has a lot of vetch.
How long does the battery last before you have to buy a new one. Are the batteries replaceable ? How much are the batteries ?
So far the battery has lasted 3 years. Unsure on the price of a new one.
Are you still using this mower? Has it lasted well?
Do you need to put the wire around every obstacle (trees etc) or does it bounce off and carry on similar to the auto indoor cleaners? Cheers.
You installed the wire yourself? I thought I read on their website they come with free installation.
Some might. Mine did not and it is easy to do yourself.
True story!
How could it mow outside the boundary wire? If it leaves the wire fence, it turns off.
No it does not.
2:39 A "fence system"? Is that anything like a fence?
Maybe I didn't scroll far enough, but what prevents someone from walking off with this, a not-cheap, portable tech device? A phone alert isn't going to matter much if I'm asleep or away from home.
When it leaves its area, it has a loud siren. It is GPS tracked also, but all that goes away once someone opens it up and removes the battery.
@@WorkshopAddict For that price, I'd need more assurance. I appreciate your video, though. I'll keep considering it.
Great video; thanks for your own personal insight!!
I’ve been looking at the “H” models. Says they’ll cut up to 3.6 inches. Is that what you meant in your video about it cutting too low. So if you could trade it in, would you go with an H model?
If I went Husqvarna again, I would go with the H model. I went with the Worx model. I will get a video out on that today. I just installed it.
Great Video bro! Very informative and well spoken! I appreciate it. (thumbs up)
I am a stihl tech we have a I mow how much does it cost and can a customer by it and install it them self or does it have to be installed by a certified installer
Great invention! I just don’t have the money to afford that as well as your boat, car lift, and the huge house with a huge lawn. So, I gots to do it “old school”, following my $400 Husqvarna AWD lawn mower.
Can it be programed to do a perimeter edge cut following the wire?
How often do you change blades? How long does that take? Looking at one for my elderly parents
Blade change was done monthly and took about 10 minutes total from the time it was picked up to the time it was set back down.
Do you still have to verticulate the lawn or it is thing of the past?
Looks like need a few more generations till it’s perfect but can see a market for elderly or medically challenged. Where they still go out and enjoy a quick yard work.
I'm going to need you to paint those workshop walls fella. I think white will do fine. Thanks

???? ^^^^
How much for installation?
can it go across a driveway to cut the grass on that half the yard?
Must we provide a lawn so that someone else can have a job? You can do with your lawn what you want.... merica
How much was the entire setup ? Mower everything
Does it get an electric shock if it approaches the boundary wire too closely? My dogs invisible fence does.
What type of grass do you have? We have Saint Augustine which is a pretty thick yard, wonder if it would work for us?
Yes, it will work without issue.
This cuts too low for St. Augustine. Even at 3.6 inches. I wouldn't cut St Augustine lower than 4 inches.
Take the cover off and add larger diameter tyres (tires) for you in US. That will get you the cut height you are after.
Doesn't look like it will dock with the charger if you did that.
James Barron this will do max 3.6”. how high do you cut your st Augustine
Higher grass helps shade the ground.
it don't stripe. I love to mow. not for me. Really good review. Thanks for all the information.
I keep my grass higher so the 2 inch cut height is too low. Thanks for the thorough review
What year were you from? IRobot only announced releasing a robot mower at the end of this year. 2019.
It was from late 1990s. It was a model 500. It came out before the roomba did. Ihad it when I moved to my latest house in 2005 and I think it was about 6 or 7 years old back then. Then Irobot quit making them. My buddy paid $500 when he got it I would have bought another at that price.

@@RonOrud well now. That's impressive. That mower as Metal as it gets.
Thank you for the review. I love robots and I wanted to get this one, but the ROI is not there. I would love to test one out though.
Interesting! Never heard of these self driving units!
We had one of these and it was fantastic. Better than a rotary mower. Better cut and obviously much, much less work.
why "had" ? you got my interest ... :-)
It was for work. We were testing to see how large an area it could cope with. The area was surprisingly big but most impressive was the cut it gave.
I love my Roomba and if it works as well, I would buy it. Not taking care of leaves is a deal killer for me though because it would still require a mulch mower. Also, the below 3" height cut won't work in the South.
I have an invisible fence. I would hate to cut that while installing the mower wire. The price is prohibitive
You can lay this on top of the ground. No need to burry
There is different sizes of this unit the biggest might do thework, check out Husqvarna homepage for details.
