Yeah, that's a job that pretty much doesn't exist anymore. Navigation is now handled by GPS, and the few lighthouses still operating have been automated, for the most part, human presence no longer required.😕
That's a pretty competent explanation for the most part, but the one thing I still find peculiar is how such a storm could've possibly gone unnoticed to everyone else.
I've definitely heard the story of this lighthouse and appreciate this logical approach to what happened. I am an American from the state of Michigan. If unfamiliar it's the state that looks like a mitten and is surrounded by inland seas we call the Great Lakes. Therefore we have tons of lighthouses. I've never thought of them as creepy or scary. I've grown up respecting them for the safety they provide. In this state a lighthouse tour is something considered fun and historical. I'm not sure how the rest of America feels about lighthouses, but in my state we aren't scared.
I’m not sure about most here in California but personally I’ve been to visit several lighthouses and never thought of them as being creepy. I’ve been to the Point Reyes lighthouse, Piedras Blancas, and one other in northern CA but don’t remember it as well because I was pretty young. I also visited the one at Yaquina Head in Oregon. They’re interesting historical sites to me.
What ever you do, do not watch the movie "The Lighthouse" I still don't know wtf I watched. At some point I just started busting out with laughter. I don't know how the hell it got awards. I must have missed something. I am not going to watch it for a second time unless my relative wants to see it lol. I want to see their reaction..
An old man is talking to his grandson. They are sitting on a bench overlooking the town. The old man says, "You see that lighthouse? I laid every brick that's there today, but they don't call me The Lighthouse Builder" "You see that dock?", he says to the girl," I put down every post holding it up right now, even in the harshest weather, but they don't call me the Dock Builder" "I built hundreds of houses, schools and bridges, and they still don't call me The Builder, or anything like that" "But you fù€k one goat...."
I have a little tweak to the rogue wave theory- I think a hurricane makes more sense and explains the damage to the iron gate and even train tracks ripped out of the ground. We see that type of damage often with hurricanes. It explains the wind and storm so severe that men who were experienced with bad weather were crying. 2 men may have gone out to fix the dock and the other heard/saw the hurricane and ran out to help and were caught in it. It explains how 1 area was destroyed and others nearby weren't as well. Love your channel (and accent)! PS. In the US there are a lot of pics and calendars of lighthouses. Kinda like calendars with scenery on them.
Yes, the impression I get from this and other accounts is that once in a while, a rogue wave comes along that sweeps over everything but the upper portion of the lighthouse. Need to set up a ring of web cams around the top that store what they record in the cloud for 30 days. The ones I keep running at home can see just as clearly at night as in the day, and come in outdoor as well as indoor models. I’ve got all the needed experience and hereby volunteer!
5:47 That road is clearly a Lambda symbol so I think the lighthouse secretly was a branch of the Black Mesa Research facility and some experiment was conducted which resulted in them being teleported to the same place as the Borealis.
"Aye, though we hunted high and low We hunted everywhere Of three men's fate we found no trace In any time in any place But a door ajar An untouched meal And an overtoppled chair"
Could a Rogue wave rip iron tracks out of concrete without shattering the concrete? Seems to me the concrete would have gone before the iron, so it should have all been gone.
The Tom Baker Dr Who episode with the green alien, freaked me out as a kid (Horror of Fang Rock - bless you internet). The light house made it even creepier.
I've had the pleasure of living in a lighthouse. It is a special kind of unsettling that is hard to explain. Forboding, like everything is wrong but still calm and welcoming. I have to wonder if there is not something intrinsically spirotual about them.
I believe it's a beacon of light as much as it is to warn ships of Shore during the dark it also attracts the spirits of missing sailors or the spirits of the love ones left waiting for there return

Yeah, that's a job that pretty much doesn't exist anymore. Navigation is now handled by GPS, and the few lighthouses still operating have been automated, for the most part, human presence no longer required.😕
Just move to Russia(tho I strongly advice against it). We still have lighthouse keepers here. I think a lot of other countries also do.
National forests have look-out towers used for spotting fires. I’ve had family members take up this primary summer job.
Maybe be a forest ranger
@@TrevorNet you should play the game Firewatch
This is a great story I’ve heard it told many times but I think this is one of the best tellings ever thank you 🙏
Lighthouses are awesome
Same here in Massachusetts, so many lighthouse's
With so much rubbish on tv. Aaron should be given his own tv show. Really love his presenting.

(Hand on heart, that's the actual term for those frightening of lighthouses)
Hello fello redditor
@@Boss-mp8py aye how you doin bro
Thank you for what you do. Been getting me and I’m sure many of us through some tough times.
Cheers
What ever you do, do not watch the movie "The Lighthouse" I still don't know wtf I watched. At some point I just started busting out with laughter. I don't know how the hell it got awards. I must have missed something. I am not going to watch it for a second time unless my relative wants to see it lol. I want to see their reaction..
Press play on video - phone landscape mode- fire up some we…. The stove made popcorn and listen! 😂😂 for real
This reminds me of that syfy tv show Haven. The lighthouse was the symbol of that show. Anyone else watched it?
No
So articulate
I loved how in Fallout 4, it was a Glowing One at the top 💚
Nearly 4 million subscribers!!!
It was Cthulhu, of course!
Brilliant stuff
You could say the waves "swept them off their feet." Sori, just got done watching Jungle Cruise. It was chock full of dad jokes. 🤣♥️🇵🇭
Is it just me or is the ' hey thoughty2 here ' just so eargasmic
Oddly enough I associate lighthouses with the tragedy of a lost love, thanks to ‘To The Moon’
I associate them with good pizza, thanks to good pizza.
10:02 "Unprovoked Aggro" Love it!
And Shutter Island has both a lighthouse and an asylum!
Talk about an urban explorers dream island. Unless it’s occupied.
I wonder if the excellent movie, *The Lighthouse* was loosely based on this concept.
An old man is talking to his grandson.
They are sitting on a bench overlooking the town.
The old man says, "You see that lighthouse? I laid every brick that's there today, but they don't call me The Lighthouse Builder"
"You see that dock?", he says to the girl," I put down every post holding it up right now, even in the harshest weather, but they don't call me the Dock Builder"
"I built hundreds of houses, schools and bridges, and they still don't call me The Builder, or anything like that"
"But you fù€k one goat...."
This video has been renamed 3 times.
For some reason I had a strong false memory of you already covering this incident.
Mandela effect or deja vu?
@@jayson7627 - You know I have to go with Mandela effect. 😂😂🤘🏻
Thanks I’m sitting looking at a storm brewing on the beach right now. I feel much better
I remember Mr Ballen talking about this story
Arran, it's always good to see you in a video. This one is an interesting one and hit me in the sailor, man of the sea gut. Thanks Arran.
5:47 That road is clearly a Lambda symbol so I think the lighthouse secretly was a branch of the Black Mesa Research facility and some experiment was conducted which resulted in them being teleported to the same place as the Borealis.
Movies often have lighthouse keepers go insane while on duty. Must be the isolation and working the graveyard shift. I always thought it would be fun.
why did my father disappear in thin air?
og title (so the joke makes sense): why did everyone in this lighthouse disappear in thin air
I saw this on Buzzfeed, but nice seeing your version
There was an enchantment in the light. Went mad they did
Tall tales
"Aye, though we hunted high and low
We hunted everywhere
Of three men's fate we found no trace
In any time in any place
But a door ajar
An untouched meal
And an overtoppled chair"
I would love to spend a season on the island all by my lonesome.
Could a Rogue wave rip iron tracks out of concrete without shattering the concrete? Seems to me the concrete would have gone before the iron, so it should have all been gone.
I always found light houses very romantic tbh
The Tom Baker Dr Who episode with the green alien, freaked me out as a kid (Horror of Fang Rock - bless you internet). The light house made it even creepier.
You mean *the one from Uzumaki?* 😃
Always great ! 🙏 Thanks
I genuinely would love to spend my life on a lighthouse, don't care If I die
I've had the pleasure of living in a lighthouse. It is a special kind of unsettling that is hard to explain. Forboding, like everything is wrong but still calm and welcoming. I have to wonder if there is not something intrinsically spirotual about them.
I believe it's a beacon of light as much as it is to warn ships of Shore during the dark it also attracts the spirits of missing sailors or the spirits of the love ones left waiting for there return
You know I only come here for the suspenders! I have the same wardrobe by the way.😬
So that's the real event that that game was based on...
Which game?
@@nictheartist It's called "No one lives under the lighthouse" I believe
1:29 is the Montauk lighthouse in New York. I grew up 5 mins away and still live here today! ❤️
