Hey, normally I look for winds of less than 12 kph, though in a larger boat you could get away with a bit more. I also look for swell of less than 1 m, though I've been out in slightly larger and it's been fine. I also prefer to cross the bar on an incoming tide right before the high, although if there is not much swell and there is enough water you can cross whenever.
