Just to clarify, his background seems to be Capoeira, but in the video he's mainly "tricking" (formerly also called "extreme martial arts") which combines acrobatics from various martial arts (540 hook => TKD / B-Twist => Wushu / Parafuso, Au Batido => Capoeira etc.) plus gymnastics. Capoeira at the core isn't about acrobatics. It's music, ritual, dance, martial art all in one. It's about play / jogo, malicia, mandinga and you can't really practice capoeira alone

So, you should know a little bit about the maculelê, which is a type of folk dance from Bahia, with its origins in Afro-Brazilian and indigenous cultures, where in its origin it was linked to sugar cane production farms. In its origin, maculelê was an armed martial art, which today is preserved in the simulation of a tribal fight using as a weapon two sticks, called grimas (fencing), with which music in African, indigenous and African languages. Portuguese. In a greater degree of difficulty and daring, you can dance with machetes instead of sticks, which causes a beautiful visual effect by the sparks that come out with each blow. This Bahian dance later merged with other Brazilian cultural manifestations, such as capoeira and frevo.

Capoeira is a very cool art.
The strengths can be easily noticed.
Unlike other martial arts, maintaining balance (not leaning for fear of falling to the ground) a lot of energy is wasted in order to maintain balance (stay standing).
In contrast, capoeira allows the body to push all of the momentum into the foot to release all the potential. And not to be afraid of losing balance (falling), instead the hand is used to support the body and to take advantage of the momentum in other successive strokes. not trying to hold back the momentum and repositioning,
Some weak kicks can also be noted. But it is very confusing. Confuse the opponent is a goal that should not be underestimated.

I trained capoeira when I was a teenager, those were good times! And what I remember is the connection of the bodies, you connect with your body making movements that depend on elasticity, control, strength and balance and at the same time your brain works in harmony with your partner to dodge, attack and even Harmonize the movements. I can say that capoeira can give you that harmony, but for fighting it is not very suitable because most of the blows you can cause serious damage to another person or even kill, which in my opinion should not be the focus of any martial art, so most capoeira championships focus on presentations, not fights.

Capoeira saved lives of many runaway slaves back in the day. Copeira's truly terrifying potential as a martial art is fully drawn out when capoerista finds himself surronded by many opponents, after all runaway slaves were often surounded by many enemies on their way to freedom.

I love how proudly people come here to say that this wouldn't work on MMA, as if that's what Capoeira was created for. Guys, please, get a grip! Winning MMA battles only matter for those who watch or fight MMA and for those who are somehow interested in the sport. When you are worried about surviving on the streets or at a battle in which there is no rules or fair play, it doesn't fucking matter if you technique would work on the octagons!
