@Ozzy Osbourne no chance call of ktulu is ahead of Orion. Musically speaking Orion is a damn orchestration. Really there’s no song like this with the blending of Melodie’s during the interlude
@Ozzy Osbourne Im sorry but no, ive heard many people say that Call of Ktulu is better than Orion and I've tried to give call a try many many times and after all of those times It still doesn't come close, its still good don't get me wrong but not on Orion's level, this is more than a masterpiece.
I’ve seen you make this face twice now. Like legit “what the fuck happened” moment when the transition hits. It’s very good. You are really feeling the music, and legit have music theory down. It’s so nice to see someone on YT actually enjoy music for music and aren’t just faking it like a lot of others on this platform are.
Thanks! I think people who have actual musical theroy knowledge would, in general, give better feedback and be able to explain what we are hearing better than those who don’t. My background is Jazz, and jazz and metal have a lot of similarities. I’ve analyzed the reaction field before I started my first channel back in September of last year, and found that there was a lack of attention to detail when exploring music. I decided then, that was going to be my edge, since theses details come natural to me. Almost to a fault, I even analyze elevator jingles and question why it fits as an elevator jingle🤣. I appreciate your kind words.
WHAT IT DO I would legit watch you listen to elevator music if you broke it down this way. 🙃😆 It’s always interesting to get different perspectives. I’ve listened to some of these Metallica songs for 20 some odd years (first real concert, at 16, too) and it’s like listening to something new again. I guess that’s what’s wonderful about music, amiriiiiiight? 😎
In memory of Clifford Lee Burton, the great, the legend, the bro by all looks of it. Died on my birthday (only three years earlier). 270986/860927. Whatever. 27th of september 1986. (I was born 1989)
back in 1996 a friend’s sister was in town, we ended up smoking a joint with her friend Dave and his mom who was in a wheelchair, listening to master of puppets album... pretty sure it was this song. Imagine an “old lady” passing you a joint and saying “isn’t this great?”
If there are ever any Metallica songs you end up loving and playing over and over then do another reaction (re-reaction) video so we can head bang and rejoice with our new Metallica family member. 🤘😎🤘
I like how What it Do says that in order to keep the audience's attention the songs has so many layers. Almost like an ... Onion ? :P And that the song is like 3 songs in one... like the Sirius stars in the Orion's Belt ?
Nice one, again buddy! when i watch your reactions, it reminds me myself long time ago when i hear that shhhh first time. And it's nostalgious, thanks, greeting from central europe
I’ve never thought of it sounding Spacey during the interlude. It’s always sounded Classical Mozart or something like that. For instance 10:02 and on sounds very classical to me
Really? the interlude is where the song got its name Metallica themselves thought it sounded spacey so named the song after the Orion star constellation
Orion is a star cluster that many ancient societies based their Gods on. There beliefs were that Orion is where the gods came from. Ancient Egypt is one example. I like Metallica because their music and the songs with lyrics are so well thought out and have deep meaning in them. So far, you have the best description of Orion and use the proper terminology, that's the first time I've heard that. Great analysis!
Orion is a constellation based on a hunter. There’s a difference. The Pleiades are a star cluster, Orion is a constellation. He’s not viewed as a type of god or anything of the sort, he was simply a hunter.
I haven't had a chance to look through your entire video history so idk if you've already done this, but give a listen to To Live is To Die; easily my favorite instrumental by them. The raw emotion and grief coming through in the guitar solos gets me every time. Edit: also I'm sure many people have mentioned this, but the intro is played on a bass. As is that first solo that dropped after you talked about the overlayed guitars. Oh, and that solo at 10:56 is bass as well. Cliff Burton was on another level for real
Dude you need to do 'suicide and redemption' by Metallica. Not many reactors have done that song but you really need to check it out. Imo one of their best songs.
Kirk Hammett studied with Joe Satriani for a couple of years (recommend looking him up if you’re not familiar) and you can hear it in his solos. Also, James is a heck of a lead guitarist in his own right and it allowed them to do a lot more than your average rhythm/lead combo. Also, Cliff was a god, that is all. Keep up the reactions!
Wasup Dave I’m glad that you are doing this reaction videos on my favorite band Metallica. I just watch your video on Metallica from SM2 tell me that wasn’t a great video I watch James Hetfield grow with this band his never change it’s amazing well thank brother for just listening keep moving forward with your videos
Now I'm here! Just seeing you notice my appreciation is all I could ask for mate :) Hope to see more Metallica in the future, lemme know if you need some more stuff I think you'll appreciate :)
Btw... The space stuff... I also Imagine that. Like a ship travelling through space... Was there a weird Cartoon with the beginning of this song as an intro?
Nice! Yes the guitars speak a lot on this track. In my opinion this is a song that showed the world that heavy metal music can be absolutely beautiful. Right? Yes.
What a shame youtube forces this ridiculous pauses, I imagine myself at my 15 year old listening to this for the first time having to pause it 18 times and… well sometimes i feel so blessed to be born in the 80s
In my top 5, for sure. No 1 has to be Master of Puppets. I’ve been listening to them for over 20 years. It’s hard to keep track there are so many good ones.
My smug fifteen-year-old-self: "Yeah, you like that? Welcome, I've been liking that for decades now" My modern actual thirty two-year-old-self: "Shut up, fifteen years old me: this guy knows his stuff, we didn't know shit back then, we used to just jam without undestanding a single thing that was happening on a musical level. Let's learn from this guy!"
Bro, I see you love compositions. Then you should listen to the best prog rock band of all time imo - early Genesis. You will be amazed. React to "Firth of Fifth" , "The cinema show" or "The musical box". They created in 70s a lot of masterpieces
I don't know, if you're gonna see this comment, but I just gotta say: I really recommend you do a podcast (roughly 30-60min maybe?), that's focused a little more on the analytical, theoretical part of music, going over the songs that you've already listened to. Keep it up and stay healthy, my man! \m/ :) Best regards ~ Jack
Hey Dave, I've been following you for a while now, and I'd love for you to react to a special song, it's called "THE SLAVE RING" by a band named TOURNIQUET, by the way they are a Christian band.
Hey Dave! What it do? Would you like to take a lyrical/ musical journey that has wicked guitarlos and a singer with a vocalist with incredible range? I invite and challenge you to react to Helloween- Keeper of the Seven keys(lyric video). You would have a great time. I shall wait. I would appreciate it 🙂

@Ozzy Osbourne Nah bro
Yeah, Cliff wasn't the one playing the background... that lead was the bass.

The beginning part was cliffs bass...his bass playing is prominent in this song...his bass playing almost sounds like a guitar in this song..

Time for Blackened by Metallica!!!
He ain’t ready!!! He needs to build up his immunity. Blackened would blow up his brain!!
I was happy to hear you say the guitar is singing. I have the exact feeling everytime I hear it.
Great reaction bro! Orion will be at my funeral! Timeless...
This song is one that you will never forget.🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟 So glad you found it.
Orion is an exercise in how many riffs you can play on a single cord progression, at least during the interlude.
This is my favorite breakdown of this song on TH-cam, and I've seen quite a few. Dave you outdid yourself here.

Orion was a Greek Demigod. The Hunter. It’s also a constellation. The three Sirius stars in the middle make Orion’s Belt.
Extraterrestrials live in the sirius star system.

I love your appreciation and dissection of this Metallica masterpiece. It's one of my favorites.
@@MrDekasOne well let’s meet halfway and say that both things can be and are, true. I suppose something can sound classical with spacey undertones lol

Suicide and redemption is one of my faves instrumentals..@whatitdo u definitely need to listen to this song
Suicide and Redemption is the only instrumental that eclipses Orion, period. And only then because it hits me, personally. Both are perfect.
Another dissection absolutely nailed 👍

Cliff was too good for this world sometimes
The beginning sounds like its a track from Rammstein
Listen to a Bass Enchanced version of this song it's so Nasty.
That’s true. I have heard more little nuances of this song during this reaction. Been listening to Metallica some since 1990ish.
Fantastic reaction. Please make reaction about Fixxxer by Metallica and compare with Dyers eve.
Oh Ryan....
If u like transitions you need to react to Fight Fire with Fire...its crazy..and dont pause it dude.
