Though, this movie takes many artistic liberties, such as with the Spartan armor, the human-like creatures/monsters, etc., The movie still does a great job at capturing the essence of the true historical account. And the fact that the Spartans had better shields (bronze shields) as compared to the wicker shields of the Persians, gave the Spartans a better advantage as well. Spartan warriors were known for their exceptional military training, discipline, and individual combat skills, which set them apart from many other ancient armies, including the Persian army. The Persian military's strength came from their adaptability, organization, diverse tactics, large numbers, resources, and the fear they instilled in their opponents. In some cases, this fear led to the submission of nations without direct confrontation, rather than the individual fighting skills of their soldiers. The Spartans (and the rest of Greece) ultimately won in the end due to their strategy, alliances, and the combined efforts of the Greek city-states in overcoming the numerically superior Persian army. The Spartans were renowned for their rigorous military training and discipline. From a young age, Spartan males underwent the agoge, a state-sponsored training program that focused on physical fitness, combat skills, and mental toughness. Spartan soldiers were professional warriors, and their entire society revolved around military preparedness. As a result, they were considered one of the most formidable fighting forces in ancient Greece. The Persian army, on the other hand, was a diverse force composed of soldiers from various regions of the vast Persian Empire. Their training and equipment varied depending on their specific role within the army and their place of origin. While the elite Persian soldiers, such as the Immortals, received extensive training and were well-equipped, the overall level of training among Persian troops might not have been as uniformly high as that of the Spartans. The "May you live forever" line is so much colder than you realize. Remember earlier in the movie, when Michael Fassbender and the other Greek were looking down on the Persian encampment and he says that Spartans dream of a good death. A good death, to a Spartan was to die gloriously on the battlefield, surrounded by your enemies. Fun fact: The 'this is Sparta' line was his most extreme version. He thought it was over the top, but the director said, 'yep, that's cool'. He did about 5 takes, getting more and more intense/loud each time. I grew up on this movie. Good stuff.
Making Leonidas even more of a badass. He was 55 years old at the battle of Thermopylae and he fought just as hard as the men half his age from sunrise to sunset each day. The line "Then we shall fight in the shade" was actually spoken by one of the Spartans. But it actually went like this "This is pleasant news that the stranger from Trachis brings us; for if the Persians hide the sun, we shall have our battle in the shade." The line "Persian, come and get them" was also actually spoken by Leonidas, with a slight change he actually said "Come and take them!" The line "Come back with your shield or on it" was another historically accurate line, it was originally said by a Spartan mother to her son as he went into battle for the first time.
there was no Twitter back then. how do you know what any of those Spartans actually said. all those lines were made up by dudes who were writing about stuff that happened a long time ago.
Thought y'all would enjoy this tidbit about the iconic line: Gerard Butler (Leonidas), “I had done quite a few takes and most of them were ‘This is Sparta,'” said in a low, monotone growl. “And it’s part process and part insecurity, maybe. And I go, ‘Can I just try another?'” The next take would be the (often-imitated) scream from director Zack Snyder’s film. “And I turn around and all my army are literally like this,” he said with a hand over his mouth hiding laughter. “And I go up to Zack and I go, ‘That was too much?’ And while laughing he goes, ‘Yeah! But it was awesome!'”
The fact that Ash loves this while being like a legit decendant of the Persians shows how well they did and how good this movie is. *Sidenote* Ash, my man I always love your energy on movies like this. You are more than welcome to show and tell us all about your channel and how real you are. No? K, so get up off the nuts my guy your smothering the vibe around here.
@He Stole My Mojo! Do you practice what you preach? Just a fake mojo with fake bravado looking to ruffle feathers. Pathetic. Anyways, great movie, great reaction. Love it just the same as I did when it was released as I do every time I watch it again. Hannah is amazing...she reminds me of the friends who say they dont like blood but love hockey.
According to Herodotus, the Greek historian, a lot of these lines were actually spoken by the Spartans who took part in the battle. And "Come and Get Them" (in Greek, "Molen Labe") is still the motto of the Greek army.
I love it that a Persian man loves this movie and can accept the fact that the director is telling a story from a point of view so of course he’s going to accentuate their sides’ strength in warfare. 🤝
Not just the director, the movie is literally a campfire story being told to rally an army to battle. "You'll have a grand tale to tell" as Leonaidas tells him. Everything is exagerated on purpose because that's what the point is.
@@eatinsomtin9984What? Lol no they didnt. Spartans' sacrifice, gave time and inspiration to the rest of the greek city states, to temporarily combine forces to face the persian threat. Persians got annihilated both on land and sea, and returned home, defeated.
You guys are my absolute favourites. To be quite honest in my opinion you put a lot of professional film critics to shame. Your reactions are always smart, instinctive and enthusiastic but perhaps best of all, bloody amusing.
You should have included the scene at the end with the army ready to go into battle. That moment you realize the soldier who was injured and sent away to tell their tale is the narrator always gets me hyped. He's telling the story to an army of 30,000 Greeks, led by 10,000 Spartans. The fact that the story doesn't seem "real" makes more sense and is one more opportunity to get excited knowing the Spartans are going to go crazy.
The quotes in this film are so good because alot of them are actual historical written responses from spartans. Their style of speech short, succint and with a big punch was so renown it had a name, after their region Laconia: Laconic speech. Aka the first recorded instance of action movie star one liners.
Yup. A prominent example involves Philip II of Macedon. After invading southern Greece and receiving the submission of other key city-states, he turned his attention to Sparta and asked menacingly whether he should come as friend or foe. The reply was "Neither." Losing patience, he sent the message: “If I invade Laconia, I shall turn you out.” The Spartan ephors again replied with a single word: “If”.
Errrm, I doubt they are real quotes. Spartans were massive propagandists. They likely never uttered similar quotes. They just made them up after the fact most likely.
@@blueyeshadow2738 That's absolutely not true, Sparta had many philosophers and historians, it was still Greece even though people think there was only warriors, it was a nation city with all the proper fields of trade and knowledge, including Chilon which is one of the 2 philosophers we know are one of the 7 wise man, the greatest Greek philosophers that Plato admired and considered the base of Greek philosophy, and left over 600 verses that were studied by all Greek educated man, there are countless other words and philosophers on Spartan history, people just like to believe the "all man were soldiers" narrative, which never made any sense.
“Come back with your shield, or on it” means win or die. If you win, you carry your shield home. If you die, your friends carry you home on your shield as a stretcher. There is no retreat or surrender.
I like that Hanna is like "oh they should wear some armor to protect their skin" and then you have Ash who goes " ITS SEX" everytime a Spartan speaks. I love these reactions
The best 60 seconds on minute 32 never ever done on any video reaction on earth!!!!!!! Thanks!!!! Thanks for that reaction!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are the Best!!!!!!! TRAITOR!!!!!!
This is why I love this channel. I don't know how many times I've seen this movie, but watching Hannah's reaction and Ash's genuine excitement at every scene makes it feel like I'm watching it for the first time again! Awooo! Awooo! Awooo!
Saw this one when it was in theaters in early 07, the adrenaline was pumping throughout and it was wild. Leonidas making Xerxes bleed after inflicting substantial losses to his army was epic. The Spartans where not only dreaded warriors but their laconic phrases are legendary. 'Come and get them' indeed.
25:07 - The exact moment Hannah's chest hair began to grow. 32:08 - The moment it began to curl. It has happened to the best of us women, Hannah. "What can we do?" What can you do.
You nailed it with relating to a comic book, because that's exactly what 300 is based on...the tremendous art and writing of Frank Miller. Much of the cinematography was adapted straight from panels of the comic. BTW, Hannah's reaction was not surprising. This was one of my wife's favorite movies.
Hannahs reaction to the queen getting her revenge in the temple was amazing!!! Ash, bro... you were shitting yourself when Hannah was On it!! 🤣🤣 I've always loved this film and seen it in the pictures.... every guy wanted to stand up and br a spartan!
i was 13 when this came out, and this shit went so fucking hard. I remember "This is Sparta!" being all over pop culture and us kids would always be screaming it at each other constantly
You guys deserve all the success you have. I don't watch a lot of these kind of things on the internet, but you guys are so clearly being yourselves, and honestly showing / sharing your relationship with us. You're a lucky guy Ash. Much happiness. Keep it up.
My favorite thing about this movie is how confused new watchers are at the beginning. AND how by the end they all KNOW Leonidus kneeling feels W R O N G. 👏🏾. They know Spartans thru and thru by the end! LOVE Seeing Hanna get hype 😤 for the Queen 🙌🏾!
Most of these really cool one liners like "then we will fight in the shade" and only spartan women give birth to real men" are actual quotes said by the real life Spartans
Well, that was the bomb! Your first reaction with your sister was great already. But Hannah "Uuu-oooo"-ing, getting aggravated with Theron's treachery and going ape shit over Queen Gorgo killing him was just GLORIOUS!!!
I’m so stoked that you two are doing this movie together!! I admit I was annoyed with your sister for not appreciating the warrior bro code and getting mad at you for being emotional. I sobbed like a baby so I’m looking forward to seeing if Hannah reacts like me. 😂
If you notice the Spartan that was sent back is narrating from the beginning... and he already has the eye patch. He's telling the story to the Greek army, that's why it's being exaggerated. The Immortals existed and they were elite Persian troops.. They got their name not from being invulnerable, it was from the fact the immortals division was always 10,000 strong.. when some died they were replaced.. Immortal division. Fun reaction :P
This was a major inspiration for the Spartacus series. The Ultimate Cut of Watchmen is another graphic novel adaptation to watch. Ninja Assassin is worth watching as well. The Persian messenger was played by the same actor who would play the Doctore in Spartacus
Rodrigo Santoro who plays Xerxes is a great Brasilian actor! ❤ Its always fun to see him in this movie with that voice effect. Hes in a very good movie with Jim Carrey called I Love You Phillip Morris.
My all time favorite moment in this film, is during the monsoon that destroys the Persian ships, the way the music rises when they all scream, such a perfect heart rate raising moment.
This is a true story. Pretty much everything in this movie actually happened including all of the quotes. Take away the monsters and you have a pretty accurate historical account with this movie.
"Then we shall comment in the shade". Well done with the anniversary reaction of 300. I've kept up to date with your reactions for eons, and impressed with your genuine reactions. Keep up the good work mate.
I absolutely love the art of this film...and I love that you shared this with Hannah! She should put it on her channel as well, lol...but you should definitely get the Frank Miiler graphic novel 300. You will see the art was brought to life amazingly. Live chat won't work for me but I'm loving watching Hannah quickly become a soldier at war! 😂😂😂
The story of the 300 Spartans against the might of the Persian armies is one that has inspired bravery in militaries for centuries, and we have seen it throughout history time and time again, where a small number of soldiers stand against impossible odds and defy the enemy anyway. EDIT: The Spartans were also famous for what was called laconic phrases or laconic humor. They would speak with as few words as possible to taunt their enemies in battle. So they actually did say stuff like "Then we shall fight in the shade."
"It's like Shakespeare read a comic book and just wrote this movie" is the best and most accurate description I have ever heard any reactor say - ever! For the record, I LOVE this movie... it gets the blood pumping like no other!
@@justtrustash Np friend! You and the wonderful Hannah just keep getting better and better. Love your chemistry together, and how your personalities are coming out more and more. Give Queen Hannah a hug from me and I look forwards to more content !
Awesome reaction! This movie was absolute hype when it came out in 07. I remember starting college that year. The dorm hall I was in was the 300 wing so we all appropriately themed it after 300. The building was old and the cafeteria was run down so almost every evening before dinner we’d yell “tonight we dine in hell!!”
What I like is the entire film is a story told by the guy who lost his eye in order to hype up his army before fighting. This is why there was magic and beasts in it. When greeks told stories it always included their mythology. edit to add: A lot of the catchy one-liners were actually said in real life by the spartans.
She is so sweet!! She said you don't have to undermine the people that are trying to help you!!!! I feel like I have to say awwww now everytime I hear somebody do the chant😂😂😂😂
You better make her watch the second one either here or on her channel! I hate reactors only doing the first one. 👀😱 Great reaction, you are both awesome!
This comment is for Hannah, who loved Gorgo (Leonidas’ wife and queen of Sparta) and the feminism present throughout the film: Women in Sparta were educated and could own land. While the boys were separated from families at 7 to complete training for warfare, the girls DID stay home to complete their education under their mothers, BUT they were required to work out and train physically and given the same fitness regiments as the boys. They even competed in Olympic Games. They didn’t have to marry until they were 18 and could even divorce. Spartan women were allowed to take lovers as they pleased. Being an adult and consent from both parties was important. As a society, Sparta really respected women for providing the population with healthy soldiers, and Spartan women that died in childbirth were honored at the same level as soldiers that had fallen in war and it was considered the most honorable death. Spartan women were some the og badasses.
Mostly true although women weren't allowed to compete at the Olympics. Usually women couldn't even set foot on the Olympic grounds and if they did it was penalty of death. Although Spartan women did practice many sports like Javelin or Discus throwing and Chariot racing, they just competed locally and never in the Olympics. They simply weren't allowed to participate. Kyniska a Spartan princess credited as winner of Chariot races in Olympic games didn't drive herself because she wasn't allowed to. From Greek Reporter: "To compete, Kyniska cleverly exploited loopholes. In sports, such as wrestling or javelin, the victors competed individually on the field. In the chariot race, the winners were the horse owners, rather than the drivers, who were almost always slaves. Much like with the modern Kentucky Derby or Melbourne Cup, the victors are the horse and its owner and not the rider. Kyniska didn’t have to drive the chariot to win. In fact, chariot team owners did not even have to be physically present at Olympia during the games. Kyniska could enter her chariot team in the race without ever setting foot on the forbidden sacred grounds." So she basically was credited as winner because she provided horses, chariot and driver and not because she actually won. But of course quality horses and chariots are important for winning. Source: greekreporter.com/2022/06/27/women-history-kyniska-sparta-first-female-olympian/
@@raydafuq3570 oh dang! I’ve read that they were allowed but that makes sense too since the rest of Greece wasn’t as forward thinking as Sparta. A bit disappointing, but Sparta itself was WAY ahead of its time!
@@fangirlalliecat that is true. Especially because in those female competitions man showed up to watch and look for wifes. A practice I actually kind of like when you think about it. This was also a big problem with Assassin's Creed Odyssey. It's about Sparta and Athens and the canon character, Kassandra, participated in the Olympic Games although it's historically inaccurate.

Oh man. Hannah is in for a treat. “This is Sparta” is enough to hype up anyone!
Let’s goooo!!
Thought y'all would enjoy this tidbit about the iconic line:
Gerard Butler (Leonidas), “I had done quite a few takes and most of them were ‘This is Sparta,'” said in a low, monotone growl. “And it’s part process and part insecurity, maybe. And I go, ‘Can I just try another?'”
The next take would be the (often-imitated) scream from director Zack Snyder’s film.
“And I turn around and all my army are literally like this,” he said with a hand over his mouth hiding laughter. “And I go up to Zack and I go, ‘That was too much?’ And while laughing he goes, ‘Yeah! But it was awesome!'”
@@minjamike I love that story :) It really was just balls-to-the-wall delivery, and he nailed it 🙂 One of THE lines of cinema history 🙂
Hannah shouting “TRAITOR!” actually killed me
Loved Hannah's reaction to this one. She got so hyped and worked up at points haha
Hahaha her Spartan screams had my dying man 😂
I am honestly fkn DYING just as much as Ash at Hannah saying TRAITOR!!!! Hahahahahaha she’s so entertaining in such a good way AWOO! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The fact that Ash loves this while being like a legit decendant of the Persians shows how well they did and how good this movie is. *Sidenote* Ash, my man I always love your energy on movies like this. It's nice to see someone notice all the subtle details in lines or scenes that elevate it higher than the normal person watching a movie.
You mean like a normal person...because how can anyone NOT react this way?
@He Stole My Mojo! People have reasons to not see films on your timeline. Enjoying a film and becoming a fan as soon as you see it, that's what happens when movies are good. What a clown you are thinking you have a say as to what his experience is. And I'm not going to your other comment. This movie isn't even about his culture, it's focus is the 300. So btfo. I don't like racist trolls.
@HeStoleMyMojo lol first of all who you calling sheep? 2nd of all he doesn't give a fk about his culture? When he first started these reaction videos he was wearing a Faravahar right from the beginning. So maybe you are new around here, but kindly get your facts straight. 3rd of all calling him a clown and yet you are here commenting on a video he made and posted to his channel. You are more than welcome to show and tell us all about your channel and how real you are. No? K, so get up off the nuts my guy your smothering the vibe around here.
@He Stole My Mojo! So I'm not a Batman fan because i didn't read the first Batman comics when it first came out.
Ok.
@He Stole My Mojo! Do you practice what you preach? Because if hopping on to things after they have been a thing is what you frown upon, someone should tell you about how life existed before you and you dont make the rules.
Hannah is absolutely hilarious. I adore when she gets so passionate in these reactions. The best reactors hands down!

According to Herodotus, the Greek historian, a lot of these lines were actually spoken by the Spartans who took part in the battle. And "Come and Get Them" (in Greek, "Molen Labe") is still the motto of the Greek army.
"well fight in the shade"
"come and get them"
are ALL real spartan lines in this battle
i laughed so hard like Ash when she shouted "traitor!"
Actually this is not Iranian look even they don't actual clothes of them too by the way not matter you can be enjoy of lye too😂
Pisses me off as an Afghan whose Persian but ok. Biased western version. In reality, Persians destroyed the greeks
@@eatinsomtin9984What? Lol no they didnt. Spartans' sacrifice, gave time and inspiration to the rest of the greek city states, to temporarily combine forces to face the persian threat. Persians got annihilated both on land and sea, and returned home, defeated.

What a historic moment. The king of sword and sandal reactions is back 💪🏼
HAHAHA MY DAY 1 BROOOOOOO!!
@JUST TRUST ASH Til the end brotha 🤙🏼
The reply was "Neither."
Losing patience, he sent the message:
“If I invade Laconia, I shall turn you out.”
The Spartan ephors again replied with a single word: “If”.
The Spartans never left anything written so we don’t even know if their quotes said by other people about them were even true
ΜΟΛΟΝ ΛΑΒΕ - come and get them
Η ΤΑΝ Η ΕΠΙ ΤΑΣ - with your shield or on it
Hannah had no idea she would be this psyched for this film. Good call Ash! Can't wait for her to see the sequel!
“Come back with your shield, or on it” means win or die. If you win, you carry your shield home. If you die, your friends carry you home on your shield as a stretcher. There is no retreat or surrender.
Hanna yelling and getting so hyped watching this movie was the best thing I've seen in a while
I like that Hanna is like "oh they should wear some armor to protect their skin" and then you have Ash who goes " ITS SEX" everytime a Spartan speaks. I love these reactions

"Then we will fight in the shade." That was an actual spartan quote back in the day. :D
Such a classic movie. I remember you watching it the first time with your sister.
It's really touching to see Ash's pleasure and excitement to see Hannah discover this film, which he liked so much !
25:07 - The exact moment Hannah's chest hair began to grow.
32:08 - The moment it began to curl.
It has happened to the best of us women, Hannah.
"What can we do?"
What can you do.
I love it when Hannah says "Come on, mate!"in almost every reaction 😂
You nailed it with relating to a comic book, because that's exactly what 300 is based on...the tremendous art and writing of Frank Miller. Much of the cinematography was adapted straight from panels of the comic.
BTW, Hannah's reaction was not surprising. This was one of my wife's favorite movies.
It's also based on an actual historical battle/event !!

Absolutely love Hannah ❤ you guys are great together!!!

The Persian messenger was played by the same actor who would play the Doctore in Spartacus
yep indeed, good eye.
I laughed through this whole video. That was an awesome reaction!
First of all Zaraki is my faiv character so love you for that and second love you more for this beautiful comment mate ❤️

This GREEK salutes your Legendary PERSIAN reactions, Ash! Actually... you both rock!
Shit mate!! We need more of this hannah!!
It was more army but 300 of them are Sparta
You know it’s a good reaction when yourself and Ash are quoting the movie at the same time and with the same intensity. Hahah awesome reaction!
"It's like Shakespeare read a comic book and just wrote this movie" is the best and most accurate description I have ever heard any reactor say - ever! For the record, I LOVE this movie... it gets the blood pumping like no other!

I watch a good amount of reaction channels and I got to say.... Ash and Hannah have sky rocketed to my #1. They deserved way more subs
What I like is the entire film is a story told by the guy who lost his eye in order to hype up his army before fighting. This is why there was magic and beasts in it. When greeks told stories it always included their mythology.
edit to add: A lot of the catchy one-liners were actually said in real life by the spartans.

This comment is for Hannah, who loved Gorgo (Leonidas’ wife and queen of Sparta) and the feminism present throughout the film:
Women in Sparta were educated and could own land.
From Greek Reporter:
"To compete, Kyniska cleverly exploited loopholes.
Kyniska could enter her chariot team in the race without ever setting foot on the forbidden sacred grounds."
So she basically was credited as winner because she provided horses, chariot and driver and not because she actually won. But of course quality horses and chariots are important for winning.

My reaction was the same as Hannah's when I first saw this film, at the moment when the queen put this two-faced traitor in his place. Yes! 🤘🏻💪🏻🖤
