I think something thats missing is the historical context: When the big 3 were airing, not only were those very popular anime, those were also one of the few shonen anime airing outside Japan on actual TV broadcast, back in the day we didnt have crunchyroll or netflix, it was either Toonami or pirate and the options were more limited, so what was everyone watching in the early 2000s? Naruto, Bleach and One Piece

Naruto, Bleach, and One piece. That’s it. The 3 biggest series in the west manga sale wise and anime popularity in like the early-mid 2000s at the same time.
There can’t be a new “big 3” especially since the first big 3 still exist now that bleach is back.
You could argue that MHA is like this next gen juggernaut. Since anime has now blown up to gargantuan proportions and it’s mostly because of AOT and MHA. But at the end of the day they are just new popular manga/anime. Sales doesn’t determine what’s a “big 3”

Jojo never comes up and it really shouldn't because, as you said, it is its own thing. I mean Part 6 started its manga serialization literally 20+ years ago, being a manga contemporary to the original Big 3, but only having an anime adaptation 2 generations after, and since the manga moved to Ultra Jump in the begining of Stell Ball Run, it's no longer considered a shonen for the last 2 parts and therefore has no reason at all to be included in these new Big 3 discussions. As a side note, I just realized that Bleach ended and already had its return announced, as well as Naruto ended and passed the torch to Boruto, before the Stone Ocean anime was even announced.
Yeah like jojo isn't very easy to consume. It's great, but it’s not easily digestible by everyone. It's just...jojo. It's own thing.

i don't think it's shonen yea. (though part 4 might be, talking about the whole franchise, it's not so consistent to count) one piece, bleach, and naruto is more towards the younger audiences, not that you can't watch them when you are an adult, but you more likely would start watching them when you were a teenager or in early 20's and still watching them now that you're older, it's not so usual to start watching those when you're late 20's unless "pressure" from younger peeps. jojo, on the other hand, is full of muscular guys and action-packed for a big part of it, dads can enjoy it.

This big 3 thing always really confuses me. As a newer anime fan who has gotten REALLY deep into the medium, I honestly don't think we'll get a perfect storm like that in a little while. Considering SJ doesn't really prioritize longevity in a manga compared to the previous decades.

Demon slayer. It's pretty solid and was somewhat unique in terms of the protagonist. Tanjiro is pretty laid back and less annoying for the lack of a better term compared to other series. Also demons and shit in feudal japan? Yes please.

Jjk could also fit. It uses tried and true battle shounen tropes and uses it so well. Itadori is a pretty cool protagonist, and i guess more gorey shit is popular in SJ rn.

This. Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece outsold other franchises during their heights by so much that it was like they were the only titles in the genre. They will forever be The Big 3 and saying anything about a “ new” Big 3 is just disingenuous to what those titanic series accomplished.
Dam did say he merely wanted to speculate so my comment isn’t so much directed at him, more so those who believe in a definitive “new” big 3 like it’s as objective as the actual big 3.

it depends on the generations and the popularity. like in the 90s DBZ was in the big 3. eventually the big 3 (now) will become less popular and will be considered “older anime” and there will be new gen anime to replace them. that doesn’t mean new gen is better, but it’s all based on popularity. anime culture just keeps growing and changing and so will the content. it’s like saying the celebrities from back then are still relevant today.

Haven’t watched much anime, but I have watched black clover and it’s probably my favorite anime of all time, and that’s coming from a JoJo fan.
As much as i hate MHA it really has its place as one of the big three, but still, i find Black clover to be the most wrthy of being called one.
Whenever I sit down and watch it, i get massive One Piece vibes. A big overarchibg story, not divided into seasons, fillers and more laid-back episodes between bigger arcs, the only other that is doing anything similar to it is demonslayer, but still... Black Clover is the one that currently keeping up what the big 3 stood for.
Neither do Black clover nor mha are part of "the new big 3", so you can atleast be calm about mha.
The closest ones are Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man.

For Shonen Jump, there’s just a Big 2 right now: “Jujutsu Kaisen” for more mature audiences, and “Demon Slayer” for all ages.
Jump Comics Plus could have its own Big 3 right now with: “Spy x Family” for all ages, “Dandadan” for teenagers, and “Chainsaw Man” for adults.

@@chrislee3601 nah, the reason why it's Soo highly praised is literally cause it managed to tie every plotline together, also have you not watched the OVAs yet.
Honestly I think this hunt for the big 3 doesn't really make sense. The big 3 as a title has less to do with metrics or whatever and more to do with all three of those series hitting all the right boxes; cultural impact, impressive sales numbers, long running (thus always in conversation), and most importantly.. doing all this along side each other.
You can't really just assign this label to any new popular series because they need to be synonymous with each other in the first place. Yeah, MHA and Demon Slayer popping off right now, but Demon Slayer didn't get that notoriety until it was near finished. JJK might grow to be as popular as MHA, but MHA is in its final arcs, and wouldn't be in the same breath as JJK anyway since it went mainstream way before it.
TLDR: People are being too impatient tryna find the big 3 even though the biggest factor is association, not just popularity. I can't think of One Piece without associating it with Naruto and Bleach. I can't say the same with the newer shounen with each other.
Isn't a Jump manga, I think, but Attack on Titan definitely deserves a spot on the list as well
There will be no new Big 3. The reasons being that "The Big 3" is a reference made to those three specific series and the role they played in making anime/manga more mainstream in western culture couple with the fact that they were all syndicated in the same time. It's not an accolade to be handed down.
World Trigger is the most top tier modern shounen series IMO. It is EXTREMELY strategy based in terms of combat and the battle system is super fun and balanced, 2nd season and 3rd season were fire too.

I wouldn't recommend it except for clips. It's not the worst thing I've seen, but it's literally a condensed part 3 with 90s anime style. If you thought the part 3 anime dragged, this isn't so much better.
Bro you need to read Hell's Paradise, it's widely considered as the '3rd one' with Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen in terms of revolutionizing the shonen genre. I actually think it's the greatest out of the 3 and I'm not alone in this sentiment.
The mangaka Yuji Kaku was also Fujimoto's assistant so you'll notice some similarities with Chainsaw Man.

The big 3 is something is a thing that developed from fan discourse online. It's a product of a bygone era so I hesitate to apply it to other time periods. If I had to name candidates for a modern big 3 though, MHA is a shoo-in. I might've also considered Demon Slayer had it not already concluded.

In my opinion, if people were to agree on a new big three, which is basically an endless debate, would be MHA, Black Clover and KNY. I would have wanted JJK to replace BC but its part of the dark shonen trio such as CSM and Hell's Paradise.
You can talk about Big 10, Big 5, or Big 3 all you want... But One Piece, and One Piece alone is the one and only BIG ONE.
Every single person who reads any other popular and great series, and also reads One Piece (and by read, i mean following the story, without merely following hype, or to just read for the sake of reaction) will no doubt put the series on THE TOP. This, i am very certain
As I'm also an old anime/manga fan, and have read hundreds of title and tens of thousand episodes, by no means i'm saying that all other manga is not good. In fact many of them are awesome and even masterpiece.

As of now if you want to get extremely technical mathematically as of this current moment it’s JJK One Piece My Hero that order because the sales some go off of sales data even though when Bleach wasn’t in the top 3 it was considered one of the big 3 but it got uncertain after its original ending so if anything you would add the highest selling ongoing series each month/week so currently it would be JJK so until another series out ranks it One Piece Naruto JJK
Edit: With Longevity & Anime’s not as a factor which could put Naruto in contention with Boruto’s poor sales before recently but this would just be replaced with My Hero being the next up after One Piece also Boruto is only added because of its proximity in release unlike Super being decades after it’s last installment manga wise once again

I think Dan Da Dan really took off recently because of the NEXT manga where it took 2nd place for Web Manga right behind Kaiju no. 8. And with it's mangaka having being an assistant on chainsaw man under his belt it was a recipe for success

I feel like tokyo revengers will become one of the biggest anime eventually, its one of my favourite manga and it's so good to have an underdog story where he dosnt become the strongest character (like demon slayer) tokyo revengers has some of the most enjoyable and real character in all of manga in my opinion.

Each guy had one of fav from those 3. And even till this day, their fandom is quite understanding. However the toxic gen z have tried to defame fandoms. Its one of the reason why no fandom can get along with each other now. Unlike gen z, the big 3 fandom knows highs and lows of each other since each one have watched those 3 series. In today's time, either you can have a great series like aot and also you can have a garbage like boruto.
