You made a mistake not watching any other filler arc cause the zampakuto spirit arc is amazing and worth watching if you want to see what every other soul reaper's zampakuto spirit looks like

When you finish watching/reading Bleach and then go back and re-read it, you’ll actually see that Kubo’s writing and foreshadowing is actually crazy. A lot of the way Kubo writes is implicit rather than explicit, which leads people to think his writing isn’t good since certain things aren’t explicitly shown or said, but he leaves more than enough context clues for you to know that certain things he did were in purpose despite him not making a big deal if it. It’s hard to explain without using specific examples but you’re not finished the series yet so I can’t give them
He is a master of using the writing style of showing and not telling which leaves it up to the readers to see and process the information itself. Everything is soo masterfully written too in terms of worldbuilding and the structure of it all seems really solid. Kinda like with HXH with the nen system and all the different places.

@afh7170 I like the arc until ginjo reveals himself. Then it goes back to being normal bleach. Ichigos mental breakdown was a huge moment in his character, but his powers get returned to him literally right after that, killing any kind of characterization ichigo could've got from that because in the end, all he learned was to rely on his powers again. After that, it's just fight after fight with some lore drop.

I'd argue just taking the Ichigo and Ulquiorra fight and changing the location to fake karakura town would diminish a lot of it's significance rather than make it feel more relevant. Like yes it feels like a separate thing from the main battlefield but moreso because the whole exchange is supposed to be intimate between Ulqiorra, Ichigo and Orihime, with Ishida as a sort of witness to the unstoppable impending train crash to drive it home. The battle clearly conveys a particular feeling of helplessness and isolation, which is hard to show to the same effect in proximity to such a crowded and bright place. It'd be a bit weird to mix the rest of the casts presence into the revelations of that fight too when its more or less Ulqiorra dissecting concepts he can't understand through the only two people he's developed a curiousity for. Visually the location is definitely hand crafted to set the tone and symbolism for what Ulqiorra embodies and Ichigo's existence moving closer to that of a hollow's. Which escalated the longer he's been in hueco munco and culminates in fighting the appointed interim master of it on top of their dwelling. I don't think its necessarily bad to divide the cast/arc into two sections either though, it's just that the earlier fights in Hueco Mundo are pretty drab like you said so I guess it's tempting to want the better part of that section to be more directly impactful to the better second section rather than being a mixed bag. Pacing is way better in the manga for this part of the story though.

From what I remember, the pacing is way better in the manga. The anime ended up pulling a One Piece and stretched things out to oblivion in order to avoid catching up to the manga... and then it pulled a Naruto and added a bunch of excess filler arcs anyway.
Yeah I experienced the series through the anime (which I personally really enjoyed). But the manga is on another level. So happy the people behind TYBW are working closely with Kubo
Yeah there’s a lot I disagree with when it comes to this reaction but there’s also so much context you miss when you first watch the show. Especially since the manga delves more into things and just how much symbolism and lore is in the story.

I loved it when Aizen was getting pissed at Urahara for 1 upping him because he could do alot more than just stay in the World of The Living and stay a homeless looking dude. Everything got an answer during the TYBW anime and that fucking Butterfly from the first episode and the 3rd or 4th opening was seen in TYBW Part 1. I love it when stuff like that actually has a purpose and is not just there.
16:39 The reason why was literally so that Aizen could draw Ichigo and friends into Hueco Mundo, and force elements of Soul Society to respond to his actions, tying up a large chunk of SS's fighting capacity in Las Noches. It was literally just a matter of Aizen doing some pre-endgame "re-organization" as it were, setting up the pieces so that they fall in a particular way.
I looked this up the other day and someone counted the number of times she said it in the manga and anime. Apparently, in the manga, she says Kurosaki Kun a little less than 150 times as opposed to the over 800 times in the anime (this includes filler). In the canon parts of the Arrancar arc alone, she says it more than double the entire manga.

Insulting bleach’s character writing is actually so painful, i’ll admit its much more well executed within the manga but even in the anime we see amazing character writing like Aizen Ichigo Tosen Ulq Kisuke Gin Byakuya etc. Bleach definitely isn’t style over substance, i’ve read countless manga & i’ve only found a few that contend with Kubo’s
Spoilers for damian A big issue with ichigos charcter writing is how the reason ichigo has hollow powers isn't addressed until tybw which is rlly dumb and offputting. The vizards all have had theirs come from aizen, but it's stupid how not a single person in tge story questioned ichigos hollow powers. Because of this, on first watches, ichigos relationship with his hollow gets unnoticed because to many people, it's just there for a power up. As a result, the internal struggles ichigo has r often bypassed due to how little reason the hollow has for being there. It's part of the reason bleach is better on the second watch. Because by tybw, u already know why the hollow is there. But part of a story is meant to pull u into it's concepts, which isn't done very well in bleach. Until cfyow, aizens character doesn't make much sense. He felt lonely because of basically what he was capable of, but for some reason never saw yammammoto as anything more than an obstacle despite it being clarified that yammammoto could beat him. Kisuke is badass as a character, but doesn't have a lot going for him in terms of writing. Most of tge things that happened in the past arc was due to aizen and kisuke was just the victim of part of it. In turn, that did pretty much nothing to his character because he acts the same way in current time that he did in the past. The story could've went a little deeper into kisukes regrets on letting hiyori go imo, but it never got to that point. Gin doesn't have great characterization either. His character can just be described by 4 words. "His love for rangiku". He's not a deep character and from where his character was going in his staredown with aizen after ishiin showed up and gin being worried about aizens new power, gins betrayal wasn't that surprising. To make it worst, his betrayal didn't even do anything except make aizen stronger. To summarize, I think a big issue with bleach is that it has good concepts, but not a great execution.
@@Blackmustache870 TLDR: Kubo’s writing is less obvious explanation and more subtle and reading between the lines. A lot of things like characters and their motivations and messages are things you interpret rather than them just saying it directly to the reader. 1. The details of Ichigo becoming a Hollow wasn’t fully revealed until TYBW but there was the original assumption that him becoming a Hollow when restoring his soul reaper powers was where it came from until we learned more. Other characters don’t mention it because Ichigo may get executed since it’s a big taboo and Central 46 sucks. Also very few have seen it and those who have wouldn’t just start telling everyone about it. Like Rukia and Byakuya. Eventually by the Arrancar Arc Ichigo is a trusted ally so the Soul Reapers likely don’t care since the war takes top priority. The Vyzards later can clear things up. 2. Aizen despises the current system of the world. Him losing his shit at Kisuke explains this which is why he also dislikes Yamamoto because he upholds the false truth of the world. He’s always been a character who is less explained and more having to read between the lines. Hence why his motivations aren’t just spelled out. He even says to Yammamoto that he won’t let him live because he’s the pillar of the current Soul Society that he built. 3. Kisuke does have his own motivations and desires and you see that in moments when he isn’t executing his plans. From him looking sadly at his hand when they went in the portal to rescue Rukia, how he acted when observing Aizen transforming, THE CONVERSATION ABOUT THE SK (it was peak), and other moments like him helping Ichigo restore himself because he saw how depressed he looked. There’s a lot to his character but it’s spread out throughout the series and not in your face about it. 4. How you interpret Gin’s actions will probably be how you perceive him. Is his motivation complex? No. But I don’t think a character needs complex reasons to be good. Gin is a tragedy along with Rangiku. He was SO CLOSE but was so unlucky in not realizing Aizen had merged. Man literally spent centuries with the goal to take down one person. His goddamn Bankai is literally called “God Killing Spear”. If you personally didn’t like what was done with him then that’s one thing, but saying he doesn’t have good characterization because of his motivation is wild. Overall, everyone’s interpretations and experiences are different with characters but I absolutely disagree that executions like characterizations are bad. Like the literal power system with the Zanpakto is literally having powers that are *directly tied to the character’s very nature!* Characterization is a HUGE part of Bleach. It’s just not as in your face about it as other manga.

I tried to see this from damians pov since a lot of these comments act like he just committed the greatest sin known to amn by missing some points in the story. So during the time of tge arrancar arc, aizens goal isn't that clear. 3. Kisuke clearly has his own interests, but in terms of a consistent goal, he has nothingbthat the audience can rlly latch onto. 4. If a character isn't complex they need to do something impactful or have a high impact on the story. Gin does none of these. He's one of tge most likeable characters, but he's not a character I would ever consider well written. Regarding the zanpakto, I like that portion of tge power system but I thinknkubo fumbled by making another part of his power system being rieatsu triumphs over everything. It makes some of his fights kind of uninteresting. Despite all the smart characters in bleach, u don't often get to see a single strategy implemented in a fight.
@@Blackmustache870 1. Why would they mention it? Even Ishida I don’t think is fully aware of how Hollows fully work and Ichigo has always been someone who shoulders his burdens on his own. Orihime was the closest one to notice his inner hollow struggle but that can also be Ichigo being very down from the huge loss against Yammy in her eyes. (Plus she was severely injured herself) Later on there’s more development when Orihime comes to terms with the mask during the Grimmjow fight. From that point on aside from the Vasto Lorde and Rukia mentioning the mask changing constantly, others don’t mention it as often because there’s no need to. Like Renji just being chill with the hollow Asauchi during reforging. At that point Ichigo’s hollow and the Vyzard’s existence is something everyone knows and accepts. 2. Aizen’s goal isn’t really revealed till the very end of the Arrancar arc and then you have to chew on it for a bit. Hence why I’d say rewatching/reading the series definitely gives more context since there’s so much subtext. But I do agree you don’t know the true motives until the very end and had time to chew on it. What gets me about Damian’s POV is that he misses things then shits on the series. Like saying how a show is stupid for a specific reason but you totally missed the point. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and experiences but others can also voice their counter opinions as well. At the end of the day maybe he just doesn’t like the series and that’s fine. But others pointing out flaws in reasoning or gaps is fine too (people shouldn’t be an ass about it of course) 3. His major goal has been preparing to take down Aizen. Literally since the beginning when Ichigo first attacks the Menos and when Urahara shows up for the first time to offer Rukia the Gigai with the sealed Hogyoku. Afterwards, his goal in fullbring was to help Ichigo and in TYBW he was such a key player. So I don’t know why you’re saying he has nothing when he’s one of the biggest players in terms of roles in Bleach. Whether or not the audience wants to latch on is personal opinion and preference. That doesn’t make the character better or worse. 4. Gin was very impactful in multiple ways. Him becoming Aizen’s subordinate changed a lot from Turn Back the Pendulumn to the SS Arc finale. But the biggest thing he did is constantly testing and pushing Ichigo. During their fight in Fake Karakura, he realized Ichigo didn’t have the resolve to face Aizen due to his fear and basically told him to get lost. In case his plan failed, (which it did), Ichigo was the last hope. Hence his death involving him being at peace when seeing Dangai Ichigo. Gin’s impact isn’t that he failed to push the story forward, but rather his impact on the characters around him and his own life. He is memorable and so well liked because his story ended in tragedy because ultimately it was in vain for him personally. But the journey to that point with the people he affected and how his story ends IS the impact. He wouldn’t be so well liked if people didn’t feel it wasn’t meaningful. 5. As for reiatsu negation, that’s only a factor for fights where one person is VASTLY superior in reiatsu. (Like SS Arc Ichigo not even scratching Kenpachi until he could unlock more Reiatsu) Again, keep in mind Aizen is stupidly busted when it comes to Reiatsu when compared to other captains. Otherwise this negation is rare. 6. As for strategy, Kyoraku’s entire Shikai is based around the games. Hell the Captain’s assault against Aizen was full of different attempts with the big pay off being Shinji cleverly using Sakanade to trick Aizen. Which backfired because Aizen’s own abilities. Like seriously the Zanpakto and other abilities like Arrancar released or the Volsteindig *demand* characters actually learn and adapt. Like the extra scenes with the Squad fight in Cour 2 of TYBW. So there is strategy and technique countering in Bleach. If you wanted *more* of that style of combat that’s more in-depth that’s different. But a power system like this does require creative ways to counter or other ways to deal with someone’s abilities.

Again, nobody is going fully understand aizens character after the arrancar arc. But everyone in this comment section is seeing their own pov from already reading cfyow. Aizen has no characterization to miss until the end of this arc and even then, it's incredibly vague. 3. And Minato goal was to beat the masked man. Is he a good charcter, get any characterization, or have any development? No. He's as much of a perfect prodigy as a charcter can get when the series tries to push responsibilities on him that isn't even his fault because he wasn't even THERE to save obito. A good charcter needs more than just surface lvl qualities. U say kisuke wants to help ichigo, that's like 90% of the good guys in this verse. U say he tries to stop aizen, that's like 100% of the good guys in this verse. All that is character traits, not characterization. 4. WHAT did gin even do in turn back the pendulum. He was literally just THERE. Aizen would've gone on with the experiments even without gin. Who was going to stop him? Ichigo would've gotten through his mentality by talking to zangetsu anyways. Gin did nothing except INTRODUCE ichigos depression to the audience. 5. Abilities=/=strategy. If the abilities r already there for u, u don't need to think of a strategy to work around it. Shunsui we just has been playing those games longer than the people he fights has. It still makes it stup1d. In a world of busted abilities, u knowing that those abilities can be flicked away with just power is lame. In a series like hxh, there's tension because there r ways to kill meruem without being on his lvl. They just have to figure out a way to get to him. Knowing that every arcs bad guy is just going to be resolved thru a power vs power front just because nobody can touch the main bad guy is lame.
I don't really agree with calling Bleach "style over substance." However, I do believe that Bleach can be experienced as much and still be enjoyable. All I'm saying is that if you're looking for a more in-depth story with themes and good characterization, Bleach has it. They just aren't very surface level.

I completely agree with you. The most frustrating aspect of Bleach for me is what it had the potential to become. It came so close to achieving greatness - it had all the elements. The characters were endearing with fantastic designs, the series had a distinct and unique voice, it was undeniably cool, the world-building was superb, and many plot elements showed promise. However, when it came down to it, it fell short. Numerous plot holes and unsatisfying character developments could have easily been addressed, just like you mentioned regarding Orihime and the storyline involving Hueco Mundo. Side characters deserved their own arcs, the Vizards could have had a more significant purpose, and loose ends needed to be tied up. Still, it remained my favorite Anime for some reason. Maybe because it promised so much that it left me yearning. As for my favorite character, it has to be Yoruichi. But Orihime comes in a close second. The community and the anime hating on her kinda boosted her place on my side, and she's also the sweetest, and I like her humor.
There are no plot holes , numerous plot convinience and deus ex machina at the end because of rushed ending, actually would have been better if you looked at actual character of orihime than her underutilised powers and what you are talking about there are side character arc going in the story at the same time ofcourse its not entirely focused on them , it never fall short of anything just requires a lot of digging and doesnt spoon feed every detail to you , most of the plot holes are people not understanding the plot
Aizen just wanted to let Ichigo fight against Ulquiorra properly so that he can develop his spiritual pressure ahead. In fake Karakura Town, there were many captains along with Genryusai Yamamoto who won't let Ichigo die and fight properly. You know Aizen planned all battle. So he wanted an undisturbed battle between Ulquiorra and Ichigo for further development of Ichigo. Also if Ulquiorra wasn't in Hueco Mundo. Then other captains could have also come in Fake Karakura town. Byakuya, Kenpachi, Mayuri. That's why they will overwhelm espadas. So Kubo needed balancing.
Haven't finished the video yet, but glad to see you enjoyed this arc! Personally I was as interested in the Hueco Mundo climax as the Fake Karakura town segment, but I can see your points. The initial fights are definitely a slog, but with crucial character moments sprinkled in occasionally. Ichigo's fight between Grimmjow and Ulquiorra were more personal battles than being the most contributional towards the main plot. However, the prospect of entering the Hollow's domain was exciting and I loved the aesthic of Hueco Mundo. It felt like getting dropped into a Tim Burton movie and the perceived threat of the espadas were that they were more ruthless than the soul reapers in the soul society. I actually had similar issues with the Gotei 13 vs Espadas section because the initial skirmishes are a lot of fights between characters I'm halfway interested in and disposable goon villain #37. It didn't really kick into gear for me until whittling down to the top 3 espada, tosen and then the visors showing up.
So Orihime was taken for 2 reasons 1. Her powers don't just heal people but actually reverses time According t Yhwach it reverses someone or something's fate So Aizen took her so she could use her power on the Hgyoku 2. Ichigo is the only person that's sort of a threat cause of his exponential growth plus he's the only one that hasn't seen Aizen's zanpaktou so Suigetsu won't work on Ichigo so he had to yank him away so that he doesn't have to deal with Ichigo yet. Yeah...
Both those reasons r wrong. Aizen said he didn't actually need orihime and only used her to lure the soul society into hueco mundo. Aizen WANTED ichigo to grow stronger. It wasn't because he was threat. It only takes a second for aizen to release his shikai so ichigo wasn't a threat just because he never saw his shikai.

@samcilxix160 plot. Same reason why hallibel blitzed toshiro in the start of her fight while in her base form, but then had trouble catching toshiro in her release. This arc was full of plot armor.
What the fandom refers to as the Arrancar arc stops after Ichigo defeats Grimmjow, After the asect ratio changes you're basically in what we call the Fake Karakura Town arc. (doesn't fix the pacing issues, we just don't usually refer to it like that) Like yeah, it's all one story line but there is a reason it is separated, there's a gulf of filler in between and we shift focus from the protag team to the 13 court guard squads and their battles. Funny that you preferred the Fake Karakura part, I feel like most people find it to be the weaker half (and I am of this opinion) but I guess it depends on what you value in a story.
Loved the commentary. When you want something else with bleach, there is a truly amazing abridged bleach as well done by project mouthwash. It's in Hueaco Mundo now, so you have covered everything it did already, but if you want something like that, its genuinely brilliant.
16:12 I disagree with this take Ichigo’s main reason to go to Hueco Mundo was to rescue Orihime which he does accomplish only reason he wants to stop Aizen is cause he plains to sacrifice Karakura Town. Both Grimmjow and Ulquiorra fights were huge for Ichigo’s Orihime Grimmjow and Ulquiorra’s character development. Remember a huge theme of Arrancar arc was Ichigo’s inner struggle with his Hollow trying to take over and it peaks at that fight. The fight happened in Hueco Mundo because of AIZEN he knew he could trap captains in Hueco Mundo by kidnapping her. Lots of great character moments happened in Hueco Mundo fights you can have character development and moments through fights look at Rukia vs 9th Espada, Ichigo vs Grimmjow, Kenpachi vs Nniotora, Byakuya vs Zommari, Ichigo vs Ulquiorra etc. I 100% you’ll love this arc better in the manga better artstyle story and pacing
Bleach isn't exactly popcorn shounen, the metanarrative and deep stuff is written cryptically between the lines in a way that apparently gets lost in translation often. It's written in a kind of unconventional way which may be a good or a bad thing depending on what you like
I undestand when you said you wanted orihime, rukia and others character to have a character arc, the main reason is that tybw acts as the arc where everyone character arc comes full circle, bleach suffers from that a lot its stuff is in dark before tybw. I kinda felt bad when you said its style over substance 😭 but i undestand where you coming from , hope that the next two arc changes your perspective

Everything will come full circle. Kube is a genius! You have so much story too unfold before you can make a full assetment of each character! Enjoy, the aizen arc was very long and saturated. However the thousand year blood war arc will answer alot of questions, and you will have a totally different view of the show as a whole! Bleach is the best anime ever made hands down!!
It annoys me every time he pins blame on kubo, like bloody hell kubo has been open on how much he disliked the first bleach anime and how it's been handled, and this isn't kubo's fault jesus

Some spoilers: Orihime character arc was through her relationship with Ichigo who at the start of the series doesn't know him to progressively getting close to him. Her kind self made her sacrifice herself thinking that that's the best for her friends. This is because she is used to living alone and doesn't thinking too much about herself. This develops into her learning to rely on others and recognise others concerns towards her. Through Ichigo she learns to not made a decision that she thinks is best for him and let him made his own choice but still accepts him that way. She learns this during Hueco Mundo arc and we are shown where her heart stands now when Riruka confronted her during FB arc. As for her fighting side by side with Ichigo, well that is yet to come and she still got some way to go but we'll get there eventually. Honestly I think she's one the better written female character in Shonen.
I have this arc about the same as soul society. Because while the lows are lower the peaks are higher too. That’s with regards to the manga though. In the anime there’s no question the soul society arc is better because they completely butchered this arc in the anime. This arc would be around half the length if they used the same chapter to episode ratio they did for the start of the anime. Fortunately at least in my opinion the last 2 arcs are better than everything before them. And shorter and faster paced than everything so far. So it’s only up from here. That section from when they enter hueco mundo up to when the captains arrive (except Ichigo fighting grimmjow and ulquiorra) is easily the worst part of the show. Most of your questions like the hollow form get answered but not like explicitly and you have to join the dots and put 2 and 2 together and most people don’t bother but I guess somebody can explain it when you get there. The fact that ichigo vs aizen was not even an episode long but the fat omaeda vs the mammoth guy got extended 6 times longer than the manga with extra scenes is an example of the stupid decisions they did with old bleach anime. Only the bad stuff gets drawn out and extended. Animation was average on that fight too. Insulting honestly.
i feel like your missing the point of Bleach. The Hueco Mundo arc, albeit it has its pacing issues, is not fully about the Soul Reapers Vs Aizen and his Arrancars. It's about Ichigo's acceptance of who he is, and what it means for that. He just got his hollowfication, and although he likes using the power; he hates his inner hollow within him. So, progressing through the arc up until the end, when he lets Zangetsu stab him while in its hollowfied state, it's showing acceptance with who he is. Showing that if he just accepted it rather than fought it, it allows for greater power as he is more confident within himself. This is why Ichigo hated how he won against Ulquiorra, it required him using a part of himself that he hated, that he had no control over, and why he couldn't necessarily contend with Aizen later on until he accepted his strength. That's what Bleach is about. It's about Ichigo's struggle to accept who he is; going from the easiest to accept to the hardest. The first 2 arcs are about his soul reaper power's, and this one is about his Hollow powers. Notice how Ichigo never exactly trains to get stronger, but to unlock what's already there. That's what I believe you are missing.
The Beach episode is partly canon: only the beach swimsuit designs cover and sand sculptures are in the manga bonuses, they combined it to make an filler with questionable additions (you shall read the manga better)

He's not wrong tho. Gins betrayal did literally nothing but make aizen stronger but fans think it's one of the best betrayals in anime. This is a common comparison but itachi has a better betrayal than gin. No contest. A big thing people like about bleach is how badass the characters r, but as a result, it comes at a cost at other characters competence when they r not in the spotlight. A big contender for this is yammammoto, especially in this arc. I don't know how this gets glossed over so much but despite yammammotos urgency to beat aizen, he literally stood there while aizen was trapped for 3/4 of the fight until wonderweiss showed up. It was plot that aizen was even around long enough to have that badass moment with the captains. And ANOTHER lvl of incompetence were the captains against aizen. Toshiro said their plan against kyoka suigetsu was to attack 1st, causing all of the captains to charge at aizen mindlessly. Yet, in the soul society arc, toshiro DID attack 1st and aizen still one shotted him with kyoka suigetsu anyway. I can't think of a single excuse why tge captains would be this incompetent, but the fans were alright with it because aizen was badass in the end if it. It's also rlly dumb that despite everyone he fought, turning into a god, aizen killed nobody on the soul reapers side.
as a big Bleach fan love the honesty but there is a novel that is cannon and goes on more on Tosen and why he decided to be that way, and the story is a lot deeper and goes to a very fucked up person who I hope will be in the new anime or new arc of bleach.
Bleach would definitely benefit from a "Kai" style remaster/edit. Cut the original 366 episodes down to like 75-90 and you'd have a much tighter narrative that hopefully solves the pacing issues and the god-awful Szayel fight. Can't wait for your thoughts on the Fullbring arc next year!
If you can't appreciate Ichigo's "supplementary" fights in Bleach, then the series may not be for you. It's also incorrect to suggest that the final Aizen battle was solely about brute force.
That's why the gotei 13 is the real protagonist... although many Hueco mundo arc moments are improved in retrospect after TYBW. especially from Rukia, Kenpachi, Mayuri... the same as the karakura arc. There are lots of foreshadowing in the words from the gotei 13...only sometimes is imperceptible

There's no reason that we know of in fkt that aizen would want ichigo, so those statements of devouring can easily be seen as a hyperbole. Aizen was playing all of soul society tho. There's no reason to assume ichigo was special at the time.

When you finish watching/reading Bleach and then go back and re-read it, you’ll actually see that Kubo’s writing and foreshadowing is actually crazy. A lot of the way Kubo writes is implicit rather than explicit, which leads people to think his writing isn’t good since certain things aren’t explicitly shown or said, but he leaves more than enough context clues for you to know that certain things he did were in purpose despite him not making a big deal if it. It’s hard to explain without using specific examples but you’re not finished the series yet so I can’t give them
He is a master of using the writing style of showing and not telling which leaves it up to the readers to see and process the information itself. Everything is soo masterfully written too in terms of worldbuilding and the structure of it all seems really solid. Kinda like with HXH with the nen system and all the different places.

Ichigos mental breakdown was a huge moment in his character, but his powers get returned to him literally right after that, killing any kind of characterization ichigo could've got from that because in the end, all he learned was to rely on his powers again. After that, it's just fight after fight with some lore drop.

I'd argue just taking the Ichigo and Ulquiorra fight and changing the location to fake karakura town would diminish a lot of it's significance rather than make it feel more relevant. Like yes it feels like a separate thing from the main battlefield but moreso because the whole exchange is supposed to be intimate between Ulqiorra, Ichigo and Orihime, with Ishida as a sort of witness to the unstoppable impending train crash to drive it home. The battle clearly conveys a particular feeling of helplessness and isolation, which is hard to show to the same effect in proximity to such a crowded and bright place.
It'd be a bit weird to mix the rest of the casts presence into the revelations of that fight too when its more or less Ulqiorra dissecting concepts he can't understand through the only two people he's developed a curiousity for. Visually the location is definitely hand crafted to set the tone and symbolism for what Ulqiorra embodies and Ichigo's existence moving closer to that of a hollow's. Which escalated the longer he's been in hueco munco and culminates in fighting the appointed interim master of it on top of their dwelling.
I don't think its necessarily bad to divide the cast/arc into two sections either though, it's just that the earlier fights in Hueco Mundo are pretty drab like you said so I guess it's tempting to want the better part of that section to be more directly impactful to the better second section rather than being a mixed bag. Pacing is way better in the manga for this part of the story though.

From what I remember, the pacing is way better in the manga. The anime ended up pulling a One Piece and stretched things out to oblivion in order to avoid catching up to the manga... and then it pulled a Naruto and added a bunch of excess filler arcs anyway.

16:39 The reason why was literally so that Aizen could draw Ichigo and friends into Hueco Mundo, and force elements of Soul Society to respond to his actions, tying up a large chunk of SS's fighting capacity in Las Noches. It was literally just a matter of Aizen doing some pre-endgame "re-organization" as it were, setting up the pieces so that they fall in a particular way.

I looked this up the other day and someone counted the number of times she said it in the manga and anime. Apparently, in the manga, she says Kurosaki Kun a little less than 150 times as opposed to the over 800 times in the anime (this includes filler). In the canon parts of the Arrancar arc alone, she says it more than double the entire manga.

A big issue with ichigos charcter writing is how the reason ichigo has hollow powers isn't addressed until tybw which is rlly dumb and offputting. The vizards all have had theirs come from aizen, but it's stupid how not a single person in tge story questioned ichigos hollow powers. Because of this, on first watches, ichigos relationship with his hollow gets unnoticed because to many people, it's just there for a power up. As a result, the internal struggles ichigo has r often bypassed due to how little reason the hollow has for being there. It's part of the reason bleach is better on the second watch. Because by tybw, u already know why the hollow is there. But part of a story is meant to pull u into it's concepts, which isn't done very well in bleach.
Until cfyow, aizens character doesn't make much sense. He felt lonely because of basically what he was capable of, but for some reason never saw yammammoto as anything more than an obstacle despite it being clarified that yammammoto could beat him.
Kisuke is badass as a character, but doesn't have a lot going for him in terms of writing. Most of tge things that happened in the past arc was due to aizen and kisuke was just the victim of part of it. In turn, that did pretty much nothing to his character because he acts the same way in current time that he did in the past. The story could've went a little deeper into kisukes regrets on letting hiyori go imo, but it never got to that point.
Gin doesn't have great characterization either. His character can just be described by 4 words. "His love for rangiku". He's not a deep character and from where his character was going in his staredown with aizen after ishiin showed up and gin being worried about aizens new power, gins betrayal wasn't that surprising. To make it worst, his betrayal didn't even do anything except make aizen stronger.
To summarize, I think a big issue with bleach is that it has good concepts, but not a great execution.

TLDR: Kubo’s writing is less obvious explanation and more subtle and reading between the lines. A lot of things like characters and their motivations and messages are things you interpret rather than them just saying it directly to the reader.
1. The details of Ichigo becoming a Hollow wasn’t fully revealed until TYBW but there was the original assumption that him becoming a Hollow when restoring his soul reaper powers was where it came from until we learned more. Other characters don’t mention it because Ichigo may get executed since it’s a big taboo and Central 46 sucks. Also very few have seen it and those who have wouldn’t just start telling everyone about it. Like Rukia and Byakuya. Eventually by the Arrancar Arc Ichigo is a trusted ally so the Soul Reapers likely don’t care since the war takes top priority. The Vyzards later can clear things up.
2. Aizen despises the current system of the world. Him losing his shit at Kisuke explains this which is why he also dislikes Yamamoto because he upholds the false truth of the world. He’s always been a character who is less explained and more having to read between the lines. Hence why his motivations aren’t just spelled out. He even says to Yammamoto that he won’t let him live because he’s the pillar of the current Soul Society that he built.
3. Kisuke does have his own motivations and desires and you see that in moments when he isn’t executing his plans. From him looking sadly at his hand when they went in the portal to rescue Rukia, how he acted when observing Aizen transforming, THE CONVERSATION ABOUT THE SK (it was peak), and other moments like him helping Ichigo restore himself because he saw how depressed he looked. There’s a lot to his character but it’s spread out throughout the series and not in your face about it.
4. How you interpret Gin’s actions will probably be how you perceive him. Is his motivation complex? No. But I don’t think a character needs complex reasons to be good. Gin is a tragedy along with Rangiku. He was SO CLOSE but was so unlucky in not realizing Aizen had merged. Man literally spent centuries with the goal to take down one person. His goddamn Bankai is literally called “God Killing Spear”. If you personally didn’t like what was done with him then that’s one thing, but saying he doesn’t have good characterization because of his motivation is wild.
Overall, everyone’s interpretations and experiences are different with characters but I absolutely disagree that executions like characterizations are bad. Like the literal power system with the Zanpakto is literally having powers that are *directly tied to the character’s very nature!* Characterization is a HUGE part of Bleach. It’s just not as in your face about it as other manga.

Regarding the zanpakto, I like that portion of tge power system but I thinknkubo fumbled by making another part of his power system being rieatsu triumphs over everything. It makes some of his fights kind of uninteresting. Despite all the smart characters in bleach, u don't often get to see a single strategy implemented in a fight.
@@Blackmustache870 1. Why would they mention it? Even Ishida I don’t think is fully aware of how Hollows fully work and Ichigo has always been someone who shoulders his burdens on his own. Orihime was the closest one to notice his inner hollow struggle but that can also be Ichigo being very down from the huge loss against Yammy in her eyes. (Plus she was severely injured herself) Later on there’s more development when Orihime comes to terms with the mask during the Grimmjow fight. From that point on aside from the Vasto Lorde and Rukia mentioning the mask changing constantly, others don’t mention it as often because there’s no need to. Like Renji just being chill with the hollow Asauchi during reforging. At that point Ichigo’s hollow and the Vyzard’s existence is something everyone knows and accepts.
2. Aizen’s goal isn’t really revealed till the very end of the Arrancar arc and then you have to chew on it for a bit. Hence why I’d say rewatching/reading the series definitely gives more context since there’s so much subtext. But I do agree you don’t know the true motives until the very end and had time to chew on it. What gets me about Damian’s POV is that he misses things then shits on the series. Like saying how a show is stupid for a specific reason but you totally missed the point. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and experiences but others can also voice their counter opinions as well. At the end of the day maybe he just doesn’t like the series and that’s fine. But others pointing out flaws in reasoning or gaps is fine too (people shouldn’t be an ass about it of course)
3. His major goal has been preparing to take down Aizen. Literally since the beginning when Ichigo first attacks the Menos and when Urahara shows up for the first time to offer Rukia the Gigai with the sealed Hogyoku.
Afterwards, his goal in fullbring was to help Ichigo and in TYBW he was such a key player. So I don’t know why you’re saying he has nothing when he’s one of the biggest players in terms of roles in Bleach. Whether or not the audience wants to latch on is personal opinion and preference. That doesn’t make the character better or worse.
4. Gin was very impactful in multiple ways. Him becoming Aizen’s subordinate changed a lot from Turn Back the Pendulumn to the SS Arc finale. But the biggest thing he did is constantly testing and pushing Ichigo. During their fight in Fake Karakura, he realized Ichigo didn’t have the resolve to face Aizen due to his fear and basically told him to get lost. In case his plan failed, (which it did), Ichigo was the last hope. Hence his death involving him being at peace when seeing Dangai Ichigo.
Gin’s impact isn’t that he failed to push the story forward, but rather his impact on the characters around him and his own life. He is memorable and so well liked because his story ended in tragedy because ultimately it was in vain for him personally. But the journey to that point with the people he affected and how his story ends IS the impact. He wouldn’t be so well liked if people didn’t feel it wasn’t meaningful.
5. As for reiatsu negation, that’s only a factor for fights where one person is VASTLY superior in reiatsu. (Like SS Arc Ichigo not even scratching Kenpachi until he could unlock more Reiatsu) Again, keep in mind Aizen is stupidly busted when it comes to Reiatsu when compared to other captains. Otherwise this negation is rare.
6. As for strategy, Kyoraku’s entire Shikai is based around the games. Hell the Captain’s assault against Aizen was full of different attempts with the big pay off being Shinji cleverly using Sakanade to trick Aizen. Which backfired because Aizen’s own abilities.
Like seriously the Zanpakto and other abilities like Arrancar released or the Volsteindig *demand* characters actually learn and adapt. Like the extra scenes with the Squad fight in Cour 2 of TYBW. So there is strategy and technique countering in Bleach. If you wanted *more* of that style of combat that’s more in-depth that’s different. But a power system like this does require creative ways to counter or other ways to deal with someone’s abilities.

2. Again, nobody is going fully understand aizens character after the arrancar arc. But everyone in this comment section is seeing their own pov from already reading cfyow. Aizen has no characterization to miss until the end of this arc and even then, it's incredibly vague.
3. And Minato goal was to beat the masked man. Is he a good charcter, get any characterization, or have any development? No. He's as much of a perfect prodigy as a charcter can get when the series tries to push responsibilities on him that isn't even his fault because he wasn't even THERE to save obito. A good charcter needs more than just surface lvl qualities. U say kisuke wants to help ichigo, that's like 90% of the good guys in this verse. U say he tries to stop aizen, that's like 100% of the good guys in this verse. All that is character traits, not characterization.
4. WHAT did gin even do in turn back the pendulum. He was literally just THERE. Aizen would've gone on with the experiments even without gin. Who was going to stop him? Ichigo would've gotten through his mentality by talking to zangetsu anyways. Gin did nothing except INTRODUCE ichigos depression to the audience.
5. Abilities=/=strategy. If the abilities r already there for u, u don't need to think of a strategy to work around it. Shunsui we just has been playing those games longer than the people he fights has. It still makes it stup1d. In a world of busted abilities, u knowing that those abilities can be flicked away with just power is lame. In a series like hxh, there's tension because there r ways to kill meruem without being on his lvl. They just have to figure out a way to get to him. Knowing that every arcs bad guy is just going to be resolved thru a power vs power front just because nobody can touch the main bad guy is lame.

I don't really agree with calling Bleach "style over substance." However, I do believe that Bleach can be experienced as much and still be enjoyable. All I'm saying is that if you're looking for a more in-depth story with themes and good characterization, Bleach has it. They just aren't very surface level.

I completely agree with you. The most frustrating aspect of Bleach for me is what it had the potential to become. It came so close to achieving greatness - it had all the elements. The characters were endearing with fantastic designs, the series had a distinct and unique voice, it was undeniably cool, the world-building was superb, and many plot elements showed promise. However, when it came down to it, it fell short. Numerous plot holes and unsatisfying character developments could have easily been addressed, just like you mentioned regarding Orihime and the storyline involving Hueco Mundo. Side characters deserved their own arcs, the Vizards could have had a more significant purpose, and loose ends needed to be tied up.
Still, it remained my favorite Anime for some reason. Maybe because it promised so much that it left me yearning.
As for my favorite character, it has to be Yoruichi. But Orihime comes in a close second. The community and the anime hating on her kinda boosted her place on my side, and she's also the sweetest, and I like her humor.
It did not fall short. The plot holes present don't take that much away and the actual relevant ones u idiots can't even point out.

Aizen just wanted to let Ichigo fight against Ulquiorra properly so that he can develop his spiritual pressure ahead. In fake Karakura Town, there were many captains along with Genryusai Yamamoto who won't let Ichigo die and fight properly. You know Aizen planned all battle. So he wanted an undisturbed battle between Ulquiorra and Ichigo for further development of Ichigo. Also if Ulquiorra wasn't in Hueco Mundo. Then other captains could have also come in Fake Karakura town. Byakuya, Kenpachi, Mayuri. That's why they will overwhelm espadas. So Kubo needed balancing.
Haven't finished the video yet, but glad to see you enjoyed this arc! Personally I was as interested in the Hueco Mundo climax as the Fake Karakura town segment, but I can see your points. The initial fights are definitely a slog, but with crucial character moments sprinkled in occasionally. Ichigo's fight between Grimmjow and Ulquiorra were more personal battles than being the most contributional towards the main plot. However, the prospect of entering the Hollow's domain was exciting and I loved the aesthic of Hueco Mundo. It felt like getting dropped into a Tim Burton movie and the perceived threat of the espadas were that they were more ruthless than the soul reapers in the soul society. I actually had similar issues with the Gotei 13 vs Espadas section because the initial skirmishes are a lot of fights between characters I'm halfway interested in and disposable goon villain #37. It didn't really kick into gear for me until whittling down to the top 3 espada, tosen and then the visors showing up.
So Orihime was taken for 2 reasons
1. Her powers don't just heal people but actually reverses time
According t Yhwach it reverses someone or something's fate
So Aizen took her so she could use her power on the Hgyoku
2. Ichigo is the only person that's sort of a threat cause of his exponential growth plus he's the only one that hasn't seen Aizen's zanpaktou so Suigetsu won't work on Ichigo so he had to yank him away so that he doesn't have to deal with Ichigo yet. Yeah...
Both those reasons r wrong. Aizen said he didn't actually need orihime and only used her to lure the soul society into hueco mundo.
Aizen WANTED ichigo to grow stronger. It wasn't because he was threat. It only takes a second for aizen to release his shikai so ichigo wasn't a threat just because he never saw his shikai.

@samcilxix160 plot. Same reason why hallibel blitzed toshiro in the start of her fight while in her base form, but then had trouble catching toshiro in her release. This arc was full of plot armor.
What the fandom refers to as the Arrancar arc stops after Ichigo defeats Grimmjow, After the asect ratio changes you're basically in what we call the Fake Karakura Town arc.
(doesn't fix the pacing issues, we just don't usually refer to it like that)
Like yeah, it's all one story line but there is a reason it is separated, there's a gulf of filler in between and we shift focus from the protag team to the 13 court guard squads and their battles.
Funny that you preferred the Fake Karakura part, I feel like most people find it to be the weaker half (and I am of this opinion) but I guess it depends on what you value in a story.
Wouldn't the arrancar arc end on kenpachi vs noitora after that aizen goes into fake karakura town.
Loved the commentary. When you want something else with bleach, there is a truly amazing abridged bleach as well done by project mouthwash. It's in Hueaco Mundo now, so you have covered everything it did already, but if you want something like that, its genuinely brilliant.
16:12 I disagree with this take Ichigo’s main reason to go to Hueco Mundo was to rescue Orihime which he does accomplish only reason he wants to stop Aizen is cause he plains to sacrifice Karakura Town. Both Grimmjow and Ulquiorra fights were huge for Ichigo’s Orihime Grimmjow and Ulquiorra’s character development. Remember a huge theme of Arrancar arc was Ichigo’s inner struggle with his Hollow trying to take over and it peaks at that fight. The fight happened in Hueco Mundo because of AIZEN he knew he could trap captains in Hueco Mundo by kidnapping her. Lots of great character moments happened in Hueco Mundo fights you can have character development and moments through fights look at Rukia vs 9th Espada, Ichigo vs Grimmjow, Kenpachi vs Nniotora, Byakuya vs Zommari, Ichigo vs Ulquiorra etc. I 100% you’ll love this arc better in the manga better artstyle story and pacing
Bleach isn't exactly popcorn shounen, the metanarrative and deep stuff is written cryptically between the lines in a way that apparently gets lost in translation often. It's written in a kind of unconventional way which may be a good or a bad thing depending on what you like
I undestand when you said you wanted orihime, rukia and others character to have a character arc, the main reason is that tybw acts as the arc where everyone character arc comes full circle, bleach suffers from that a lot its stuff is in dark before tybw. Everything will come full circle. Kube is a genius! You have so much story too unfold before you can make a full assetment of each character! Enjoy, the aizen arc was very long and saturated. However the thousand year blood war arc will answer alot of questions, and you will have a totally different view of the show as a whole! Bleach is the best anime ever made hands down!!

Some spoilers: Orihime character arc was through her relationship with Ichigo who at the start of the series doesn't know him to progressively getting close to him. Her kind self made her sacrifice herself thinking that that's the best for her friends. This is because she is used to living alone and doesn't thinking too much about herself. This develops into her learning to rely on others and recognise others concerns towards her. Through Ichigo she learns to not made a decision that she thinks is best for him and let him made his own choice but still accepts him that way. She learns this during Hueco Mundo arc and we are shown where her heart stands now when Riruka confronted her during FB arc.
As for her fighting side by side with Ichigo, well that is yet to come and she still got some way to go but we'll get there eventually. Honestly I think she's one the better written female character in Shonen.

I have this arc about the same as soul society. Because while the lows are lower the peaks are higher too. That’s with regards to the manga though.
In the anime there’s no question the soul society arc is better because they completely butchered this arc in the anime. This arc would be around half the length if they used the same chapter to episode ratio they did for the start of the anime.
Fortunately at least in my opinion the last 2 arcs are better than everything before them. And shorter and faster paced than everything so far. So it’s only up from here.
That section from when they enter hueco mundo up to when the captains arrive (except Ichigo fighting grimmjow and ulquiorra) is easily the worst part of the show.
Most of your questions like the hollow form get answered but not like explicitly and you have to join the dots and put 2 and 2 together and most people don’t bother but I guess somebody can explain it when you get there.
The fact that ichigo vs aizen was not even an episode long but the fat omaeda vs the mammoth guy got extended 6 times longer than the manga with extra scenes is an example of the stupid decisions they did with old bleach anime. Only the bad stuff gets drawn out and extended. Animation was average on that fight too. Insulting honestly.

i feel like your missing the point of Bleach. The Hueco Mundo arc, albeit it has its pacing issues, is not fully about the Soul Reapers Vs Aizen and his Arrancars.
It's about Ichigo's acceptance of who he is, and what it means for that. He just got his hollowfication, and although he likes using the power; he hates his inner hollow within him. So, progressing through the arc up until the end, when he lets Zangetsu stab him while in its hollowfied state, it's showing acceptance with who he is. Showing that if he just accepted it rather than fought it, it allows for greater power as he is more confident within himself.
This is why Ichigo hated how he won against Ulquiorra, it required him using a part of himself that he hated, that he had no control over, and why he couldn't necessarily contend with Aizen later on until he accepted his strength.
That's what Bleach is about. It's about Ichigo's struggle to accept who he is; going from the easiest to accept to the hardest. The first 2 arcs are about his soul reaper power's, and this one is about his Hollow powers. Notice how Ichigo never exactly trains to get stronger, but to unlock what's already there. That's what I believe you are missing.

The Beach episode is partly canon: only the beach swimsuit designs cover and sand sculptures are in the manga bonuses, they combined it to make an filler with questionable additions (you shall read the manga better)
Even omakes in the manga aren't really canon. It's meant as jokes most of the time.

He's not wrong tho. Gins betrayal did literally nothing but make aizen stronger but fans think it's one of the best betrayals in anime. This is a common comparison but itachi has a better betrayal than gin. No contest.
A big thing people like about bleach is how badass the characters r, but as a result, it comes at a cost at other characters competence when they r not in the spotlight. A big contender for this is yammammoto, especially in this arc. I don't know how this gets glossed over so much but despite yammammotos urgency to beat aizen, he literally stood there while aizen was trapped for 3/4 of the fight until wonderweiss showed up. It was plot that aizen was even around long enough to have that badass moment with the captains.
And ANOTHER lvl of incompetence were the captains against aizen. Toshiro said their plan against kyoka suigetsu was to attack 1st, causing all of the captains to charge at aizen mindlessly. Yet, in the soul society arc, toshiro DID attack 1st and aizen still one shotted him with kyoka suigetsu anyway. I can't think of a single excuse why tge captains would be this incompetent, but the fans were alright with it because aizen was badass in the end if it.
It's also rlly dumb that despite everyone he fought, turning into a god, aizen killed nobody on the soul reapers side.

as a big Bleach fan love the honesty but there is a novel that is cannon and goes on more on Tosen and why he decided to be that way, and the story is a lot deeper and goes to a very fucked up person who I hope will be in the new anime or new arc of bleach.

Bleach would definitely benefit from a "Kai" style remaster/edit. Cut the original 366 episodes down to like 75-90 and you'd have a much tighter narrative that hopefully solves the pacing issues and the god-awful Szayel fight.

If you can't appreciate Ichigo's "supplementary" fights in Bleach, then the series may not be for you. It's also incorrect to suggest that the final Aizen battle was solely about brute force.

At the moment of fkt, it didn't. We can easily be told that a villain planned all of a characters fights like in naruto. Zetsu planning everything doesn't have any contradictions. It was just dumb.

@tensazangetsu7062 again, ichigo being a soul kings candidate isn't told until later. That's why it's easy to say it doesn't make sense. There's no reason that we know of in fkt that aizen would want ichigo, so those statements of devouring can easily be seen as a hyperbole.
Aizen was playing all of soul society tho. There's no reason to assume ichigo was special at the time.

The way I talk about Bleach I think ppl misunderstand and think I hate Orihime but no! I LOVED early Bleach Orihime!! But then all her character development went to a complete standstill despite all the buildup about her powers being OP in what was a very long arc.
