I’ve spent years trying to hunt the local game lands around my town. (Admittedly I wasn’t a serious hunter, only participating in regular rifle session) I finally found a honey hole right down the road from me this year. Back to back to back deer in the same exact spot at the same exact time of day. I’ve never filled multiple tags before, I’ve never killed a deer on public land before, I’ve never killed a deer on the ground intentionally stalking before, and I’ve never gotten anything bigger than a 6 point until this season.
Your videos helped me succeed this year. Scouted around a creek like you said from your other video and saw more deer this season than ever before. Its a small section of public next to private that no one else goes to. Punched my tag last Friday
The amount of sign I find in hardwoods next to clearcuts is insane! So many times when I hunt on the edge of clearcuts I can hear deer waking up and moving through them. They're a gold mine!
I live near milwaukee Wisconsin and hunt 100% Public land. This has been my experience calling in deer. The deer will do half a circle around you, looking for visual on a deer. If the buck or a doe don't see a deer, they will keep walking. I use at least 2 montana decoys for this specific reason. The hunting Zach Ferenbaugh uses a buck decoy on his bow. The downside of these decoys is that they won't work on real windy days. I would keep these decoys in your backpack at all times, really lightweight. That's what bowhunter Andy May does. I also keep a synthetic ghillie suit in my car or backpack. Synthetic ghillie suits make a world of difference because I spot and stalk ( still hunting )more efficiently.
I have one of these areas, except mine is an "island" surrounded by agriculture. It's a 5 acre corner of a field that was left alone because of a creek that floods the area during even average rain events. Packed with sign. The problem is access - because of land ownership, I can only approach from 270 to 360 degrees. Our typical winds are west/northwest so I can only hunt it under very specific/rare conditions. I suppose that's why they like it so much.
Thanks for the video! This definitely works here in southern eastern Wisconsin. Please make more hunting videos like this it definitely help us new bow hunters here in Wisconsin :)
It's been my experience calls only work on public land before rifle or gun season. I believe it's because when the masses (less experienced hunters) enter the woods they teach the deer that calls equal hunters. For example I was out last weekend of rifle and there was a guy about 200 yards from me blowing a mega buck grunt tube like a trombone. It was so loud and unrealistic and persistent I am sure every deer in 400 yard radius heard him. And he also sat in the middle of the bedding area so they heard and then could smell , when they came back after being bumbed out, what was going on. My opinion is calls are great early season but in pressured areas not good in late season
Yes, you’re probably right about that. I do know from experience that different bucks respond to different calls. When I had this encounter with the buck, it was the 2nd weekend in November, well before gun season.
My problem is last year I moved a chair under a tree and not til afterwards is when I realized something moved my chair, well there was a scrape in front of a deers scrape and he moved my blue chair out the way, well I kept it there… and this year he has added 1 more scrape in front of me and 1 behind me each about 10 yards away from me and I pass by some sign on my way in to my chair problem is I’m not hunting the field I’m sitting on it’s not enough land compared 50 yard up and 50 yards over where I can see about 250 yards from left to right and a little behind me help.
Thank you. I came across your channel about 3 weeks ago. TH-cam finally recommended it to me. I’ve watched all your videos. Thank you for your honest information. I grew up hunting a half mile south of the UP boarder so I can absolutely relate to your experiences. Keep up the good work my friend.
I was a firefighter for 16 years and well some things happened and I couldn’t bare it anymore and I started hunting I needed some peace something positive and peaceful nature ❤ I tried 😢 plus I had my wife and babies I wanted to be with them too
My favorite is when a hunter hunts a landlocked parcel considered "public" but an actual person in the public would never get to set hoof on the "public" land. We have lots of the "public" land around here that's heavily guarded by surrounding land owners.
Same. People do that here on purpose. We have 'manage forest lands' - private lands that turn to public with a government program. People do that to their land to save money on property taxes. The problem is that it is open to public but the owners do that to their back 40's that have no public access.
Thank you for supporting the channel. Depending on the public land, I have 4 methods. 1. Utility cart - same cart I use for hauling firewood across my yard, etc. This is used when public access/logging roads take me waaay back. 2. Otter sled - makes dragging 10x easier, even when there is no snow. It helps keep the feet and antlers from catching on things. I've also used an otter sled to bring deer across small rivers/creeks. They will float if you balance it properly. 3. ATV - my four wheeler will get used if the public allows for ATV access. Which most of the public around me does not. Northern WI usually allows for it so when I rarely go up there to hunt, I would use that. I've also pulled deer out with my 4 wheeler, with the deer in the otter sled. That's really the best combo. 4. Boat/canoe - crossing bigger rivers. There is one good location across a large river that a boat or good size canoe is necessary. Biggest thing I've learned is after I shoot a deer, I find it, mark it on OnX and then bring all my other gear back to my vehicle. Then I come back with the sled, cart or whatever. I definitely do not drag out the deer with my stand and bow or gun - too much weight for me. I hope this has been helpful.
@@RelentlessSportsman great advice! Thanks for the response. I actually never heard of an Otter Sled. Just looked it up. That may be something I try. Thanks again and good luck out there!
You're welcome. Yes, we use otter sleds a lot up north for ice fishing, hauling deer, hauling firewood and gear around in the snow. They're built stronger than many other sleds that look similar. My has lasted 8 years so far and it looks and feels brand new.
That's the way to do it always always hunt down wind side of thickits the wind is your number one enemy I'm tagged out here West Tenn it's on fire here you will kill that deer great vid my northern friend 🦌🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷
Lol its not a secret. Either your a good hunter or your not. Deer adapt to pressure. You have to too public land changes year to year. You just have to do better. Comments like this show that you are not a good hunter and struggle evey year. Well i can tell you after my experiences during my days of mo experience, you sre making to much noise moving to fast snd moving to much.

It sounds like you've been putting in the work to finally find success! That's what it's all about.
You've got a neat little spot there.
Good to see you back on TH-cam 🎉
Good video brother 😎🤗
Thank you.
I took a break to build up another channel. It’s good to be back, focusing on both now.

I’m happy I can help.
Thanks for sharing your experience
Excellent info!
Glad you enjoyed it!
thanks man! great info, great scenery, and had the rubs and sign to backup what you were talking about... better than my hunting spot!
You’re welcome.
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the new video! I've learned a lot from the past year, That buck might have been educated from other hunters as well
You're welcome.
That is definitely a possibility, you're right. Although I saw zero sign of any humans in that entire area...hard to say.
The amount of sign I find in hardwoods next to clearcuts is insane! So many times when I hunt on the edge of clearcuts I can hear deer waking up and moving through them. They're a gold mine!
Yes! Just a matter of finding where the deer mostly exit.

My brother and I talked about exactly what you mentioned with a decoy. That would have been the correct way to handle that situation, you're right.

Sounds like a great spot. I hope you get the chance to hunt it under the right conditions!
Those areas are always intriguing

You're welcome.
What area of SE WI are you in?
I used to live down there.
@ I live in Milwaukee but grew up hunting around the Racine, Walworth, Jefferson county all public ground :)
Ahh ic. Lots of pressure down there, huh?

This guy hunts some tough big woods. I stopped investing my efforts into that kinda terrain as there are much simpler places to hunt.
What places do you hunt that are simpler?
I want to go hunting with you sometime!
Let's go!
I heard Ohio has some giants.
Good info but man I'd be frustrated if some youtuber came walkin in talkin in the middle of my muzzleloader hunt😂
haha...right?!
I was confident that I would not see anyone. This place has zero evidence of people hunting there.
I chose hunting for a safe replacement for the passion of being a firefighter but I still love the fire department
You're enjoying now what you were fighting to protect then! :)
Well done.

Thanks for watching!
So sick of everybody sharing every damn secret on TH-cam just for views. Since THP public land hasn't been the same and not for the better.
I’m here to help and encourage hunters. It’s simple.
Don’t watch or comment if you don’t like it.
