Yep! Holding hands during couples, slow-skate at the roller rink. Lights down low, with the disco ball spinning lights, and this sing blaring. Oh, the memories. Really was the Best Of Times!
Styx covered a vast range of musical styles which is why, with each song, it could feel like a different band. Three singers, three songwriters makes for some incredible music..
We used to sing this as a warm up song for high school choir. Love love Styx and Dennis DeYoung is the Greatest!! He wrote this for his Beautiful wife!
Love "Babe" by Styx... the piano at the beginning is so sweet and brings back memories of my youth. I also love "Don't Let it End" , "Lady", and "Come Sail Away"
STYX!!! Their ballads were slow dancing staples at school dances and moonlight skates at the skating rink! Don’t Let It End and The Best of Times are two other classic Styx ballads!
This was the first Styx 45 single I ever bought. This was a live version, but it's an almost note-for-note representation of the studio version. Styx was one of the truly HUGE groups of that era. The two guitarists, Tommy Shaw and James Young, still tour as Styx to this day. Much like Foreigner, they could do hard rockers and tender ballads with equal skill.
I suggest "Snowblind" and "Half Penny Two Penny/AD1958." I was a big Styx fan in middle school in the 80s. A huge song to try from the 80s is Dexys Midnight Runners, "Come On Eileen."
Dennis DeYoung really does a great job singing this one, as well as on the keyboard. If you haven't already, have a look at "Too Much Time On My Hands", where vocals are by the band's guitarist, Tommy Shaw.
Please react to these Styx songs: Blue Collar Man, Queen of Spades, The Best of Times, Too Much Time On My Hands, The Grand Illusion, Lady, Snowblind, Suite Madame Blue, Fooling Yourself, Boat On A River, Mr. Roboto, Don't Let It End, Castle Walls, Miss America, Crystal Ball, Rockin' The Paradise, Lorelei, Lights, Love At First Sight, Borrowed Time, Light Up, Show Me The Way, Sing For The Day, Man In The Wilderness, Pieces of Eight, Superstars, and Love Is The Ritual.
I told you I saw them in concert in about 1978 or so and they did this song. They are SO versitile!!! Mr. Roboto! That song will get you! Love most of their songs. Dennis DeYoung is on Facebook, sharing songs now, that he has written or just singing some different songs, he is a really amazing singer!
This takes me back to winter days when I would drive to pick my husband up from work. It'd be around 5 pm, the skies had already darkened and it was like 15 degrees out so the heater was on and the stereo was on. Styx kept me company until he walked out the door. Thanks for your reaction, Jay. Take care and be well. Peace.
From late 70s to the present always a favorite song for weddings or anniversaries. Styx is on of my all time favorite bands. Some romance for a he ladies and rock for the guys.
This is one of my absolute favorite songs of all time. It is become my husbands deployment song. Every time we’re apart this is the song we send each other frequently over social media. Love your reaction
Man.., this was my favorite group when I was like 10. I had paradise theater on 8 track and made my parents put it on every time we jumped in the car. Even broadcasted over a walkie talkie on a road trip in the event someone in another car happened to have a receiver lol
Had a chance to see Dennis DeYoung in concert a couple of summers back, when concerts could still be held, and he sounded as pure and genuine as ever. He paid tribute to his babe, his wife, to whom he was (and probably is) still married to! You should definitely react to the first hit song Styx had, another DeYoung ballad called "Lady". Thank you for your reaction!
They have 3 different lead singers. The "Voice of Styx" Dennis De Young, and pop rocker Tommy Shaw and hard rocker James Young. They mixed it up on each album, so they appealed to a wide range across the rock spectrum
Thank you so much for reacting to this! It brings back so many memories...my first love in high school : ) Also would love for you to hear their other amazing love song..."Lady" : )
Fun fact!! This song was written by singer/keyboardist Dennis DeYoung and initially recorded as a gift to his wife. It was a demo by Dennis, bassist Chuck, and drummer John. The piano in the studio was out of tune, so Dennis used a rhodes electric piano. He also overdubbed all the harmonies himself. The record label liked it so much they wanted to release it. They ended up using the original demo with guitarist Tommy Shaw overdubbing the guitar solo and it became a #1 hit.
Commenting on what you said at the beginning of the video. EXACTLY! You get caught off guard with Styx. They have a great and unique variety. You have yet to even touch on their organ music songs from Cornerstone, Pieces of Eight, and the Grand Illusion. All 3 are AMAZING albums.
@@dave0915 I did find it. And just like I figured, he was blown away.. Lol.. And now i wanna go listen to all their songs again. So glad to have grown up when bands like this were on the radio.. 💯
I grew up with Styx. Dennis DeYoung is an amazing singer! Lady brings back a lot of memories of my wife. Try his solo song Desert Moon, do it with the official video. You will love it!
Dennis DeYoung had one of the greatest voices around. The band Styx during their career, charted eight Top-10 singles on the Billboard 100, seven of which were written by Dennis DeYoung. This song Babe, was their only #1 hit, although they have several multi platinum albums and are still considered one of the great from the late 70s/early 80s, as well as one of the pioneers of the concept album. Just like Steve Perry is the voice of Journey, Dennis DeYoung is the voice of Styx. I’ve been fortunate to have see both bands live... Styx when they had just had their first hit Lady, and Journey when they were at the height of their run, with a lot of hits already under their belt, before Steve Perry went solo, eventually left the band and was replaced by a Filipino singer who is quite good, but isn’t Steve Perry. Since neither Dennis nor Steve are touring with their respective bands any longer, I’ve always thought it would be a killer throwback for them to tour together, with Dennis doing Styx songs and Steve doing Journey songs. Dennis DeYoung was actually scheduled to tour this year in honor of the 45th anniversary of the band’s famous The Grand Illusions album, which put them on the map. I had tickets to see him and was so excited, but like everything else, it got canceled by the coronavirus. 😕 Keep doing your sincere, honest and emotional reactions. I’m never disappointed, and you’re the best at what you do. ☮️-out .... Steve P.S. If you’d like to react or just listen to a great song/music video by Dennis DeYoung, after he went solo, check out this one, which went to #6 on the Billboard 100: th-cam.com/video/2cFOLFtw2Ic/w-d-xo.html
Oh so many songs to choose from...Too Much Time on My Hands, Lady, Come Sail Away to name a few. Styx was @%it back in the day; they put on a darn good show!
Just found your channel through following the twins and love your channel and your reactions too. I can tell all be be spending hours here. Ti was a fan of Styx. My husband to be hadn’t heard of them. I told him about them the first night we met and we bonded over their music.. this was 45 years ago.
Styx was classified as orchestrated rock because instrumentation was such a part of the songs. If you want to be blown away you need to listen to their album from beginning to end because each song is related in telling a story and sending you on a journey. When you have finished the album, it is an amazing experience. I suggest listening to "Grand Illusion" album, but the next single song I suggest "Fooling Yourself" one of the most uplifting songs you'll hear.
Styx was one of the super groups of the 70's and 80's. Their music catalogue is HUGE. Here are a few suggestions my friend ;) . Lorelei , Superstars, Lady, Come Sail Away, The Grand Illusion, FOOLING YOURSELF (THE ANGRY YOUNG MAN), Renegade, and many many more :)
There was the rock era of Styx, and the power love ballad era of Styx. This is obviously from the latter era. They were equally successful in both. "Come Sail Away" was another beautiful ballad from this era.
Dennis deYoung singing. Love at First Site, Don't Let It End, Mr. Roboto, Come Sail Away, Lady. Tommy Shaw singing. Too Much Time on My Hands, Boat on a River, Renegade, Blue Collar Man. Glen Burtnik quit Styx and wrote Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough with Patty Smythe, wife of John McEnroe.
One of my favorite groups of all time. How sweet would it be if Tommy Shaw and Dennis DeYoung could set aside their differences and we could see them on stage with their full catalog of Styx music?
Saw them in concert as a 14 year old, MAJOR crush on Tommy Shaw... my girlfriend and I stood right in front of him, about 10 feet away... we kept screaming his name and he would look down at us and smile.... We were in HEAVEN hahaha!!
This song has been a staple of classic rock radio for decades.
Welcome to the wonderful world of white music
Every “Smooth FM” type station almost play it on the hour. Must say though, it’s one of my guilty pleasures ☺️
@@kerryn6714 why guilty?
We were so fortunate to have bands like this around when we were growing up.
Yes we were. I feel sorry for kids today. At least they have ways to hear the good stuff of yesteryear.
I couldn't agree more...😊
Yes we were!!!!
It's true all my musicians friends say the same thing.
Styx "The BEst of Times" is an epic song. reminds me of Jr. High.
This ☝️
It does! But I went to the same junior high as Tommy Shaw (a few years after him) and was a huge Styx fan too 😁
Yep! Holding hands during couples, slow-skate at the roller rink. Lights down low, with the disco ball spinning lights, and this sing blaring. Oh, the memories. Really was the Best Of Times!
Yes with the way world is in 2020
Back when they made music
Styx covered a vast range of musical styles which is why, with each song, it could feel like a different band. Three singers, three songwriters makes for some incredible music..
This was everyone's "their song" for couples, and always a sure thing for a couples skate at the rink when it came out.😎
Rite.....💜💜✌🏾✌🏾

Alienate the dweebs
Yep and you would hear the guy on the loudspeaker say couples skate...and people would be skating backwards. Good times 🤔

Dennis DeYoung has an instantly recognizable voice.
Lucky lady to have such a beautiful song written for you from your man. LUCKY LADY. LOVE HIS VOICE. SO PERFECT.
I love this song, it does things to my heart! Dennis DeYoung’s voice is so clear and beautiful!! ❤️❤️
We used to sing this as a warm up song for high school choir. Love love Styx and Dennis DeYoung is the Greatest!! He wrote this for his Beautiful wife!
They certainly don’t disappoint. This song is totally on tick.
Really Smart probably that too. Lol.
Love "Babe" by Styx... the piano at the beginning is so sweet and brings back memories of my youth. I also love "Don't Let it End" , "Lady", and "Come Sail Away"
Dennis DeYoung has a Beautiful Powerful voice! Styx has endless great songs! Dennis has a solo song Desert Moon that I love!
STYX!!! Their ballads were slow dancing staples at school dances and moonlight skates at the skating rink! Don’t Let It End and The Best of Times are two other classic Styx ballads!
Yeah. This was Friday night at the skating rink.
A huge hit at that time, a great ballad though their rockers really rock!
This reminds me of my husband of almost 34 years when we were 17 we fell in love and the song was popular he always called me babe.
