Thank you! I'm looking forward to the new year as well... excited for another few months of the A's, but also looking forward to OOTP 26!

Congrats on another world series! A little bit scared by that Twins team but we've definitely got the core to compete. Lots of close games and nailbiters on our way there but hey, a banner is a banner regardless of how you get there.
A little shocked to see our offense mostly disappear, thankfully our pitching staff was there to pick up the slack. I think it's probably in part due to what you see in real life where a higher % of runs are scored with the long ball in the playoffs than the regular season and us being a more middle of the pack team offensively
So happy to see fan loyalty finally improve, it's about time! Maybe one day we'll finally reach Awful or Horrible or whatever lovely word they've got above "Pathetic".
It's gonna be a tough offseason, lots of difficult decisions to make and we'll probably see a couple franchise legends moving on. I'm sure you'll make smart decisions!

I hope we end up making the right calls! It is kind of funny to me that "Pathetic" is a step better than "Minimal", but hopefully we can move up to Awful or Horrible before the end of the series!

A nice end to our transition year in Oakland.
Congrats on the WS Championship OSS, it is well-deserved. Have to say I was once again a bit taken aback the bats fell silent much of the time in the playoffs. But, that seems to be luck-of-the-draw in OOTP. I am a bit sad knowing a good chunk of important guys are probably out the door this winter. I guess that is just a fact of last place budget teams.
Glad to see Fan Loyalty isn't completely broken, I had my doubts! Perhaps we can quit bleeding Fan Interest this coming season.
One guy you didn't mention I think may be a candidate to part with if valuable is Alcindor. His contract could preclude that though. I understand your interest in keeping Mendoza as he and Richards did a lot of heavy lifting in the playoffs. Well, if you can make it work I am behind you, I don't relish losing some of the Fans with his departure too. I am with you on the Twins... wow, what a bunch of stout youngsters they have and Lara was off the scale in the playoffs. Scary.
Hope you and the family had a good Christmas and best of luck in this new year! 💥

Thank you, I have definitely gotten to relax a bit over the past few days. Back to the grind tomorrow!
It's definitely going to be an eventful offseason, and it is a bit sad that several key players, including The Franchise, have likely played their last game in Oakland. But at least they all went out on top!

Happy 2025 to you as well, OSS!
The Twins definitely look pretty scary going forward, that said, Jorge Mendoza winning ALCS MVP in a 7 game series against the team that traded him is some real cinema.
Congrats on the 4th championship! Damn those Reds were scrappy though. Kind of crazy that they have current-day Ray Junior Caminero, I guess it's "only" 16 years from now but always funny seeing a real guy still hanging around.
Looking at our budget, I definitely don't see a path or reason to keep Dorrah around for next season, and with the back-to-back terribly disappointing playoffs for Orosco I wouldn't be upset to see him go, either. I think the fans should've seen the signing of Mr. Iwata as an admission that Ortega would not be back after the season, and I don't really see how he could be. (Also, is it possible to fix that terribly broken expected "arbitration" salary for Iwata? He shouldn't have any team control years beyond the contract you signed him to.)

    • @oldschoolsports
      @oldschoolsports  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Thank you! That's a good point, with Mendoza against the Twins and Dorrah against the Reds we had some good drama with former teams!
Definitely don't see any path to Dorrah or Ortega returning (especially after another post World Series budget cut from that $@$&*@# Fisher!), and with the money we will still need to cut out of the budget and a lot of good youth on our pitching staff, I think Orosco, Blanco and even the new addition Galick could all be guys we move on from this offseason. Although we didn't trade Palomares ahead of the trade deadline, his spot is in jeopardy as well with a $5.5 million arb number, and Toribio may be at risk also. But if we move on from four or five of those players, I think there is a path to keeping Weiss in the rotation and Mendoza behind the plate for another season, while not completely sacrificing scouting and player development. Definitely going to be a busy offseason!

Congratulations! Definitely made it interesting. Might be worth offering Ortega whatever you think is a fair contract. I've had guys take way under their asking price in their later years. Worst case he's mad but you were losing him regardless.

Thank you. Maybe we can give that a try once we trade away a little salary!

Would love to see guys like Landin, Toribio, and Ortega stick around, but that’s not easy with the decreased budget. Hopefully the loyalty increase comes with a increased budget the next couple years

I hope so too... but I think having all of those guys spend their entire big league careers with the A's is increasingly unlikely, even if we get some budget help going forward. Feel like I still am going to be pretty ruthless as guys get into their mid 30s!

Congrats OSS a great season and worthy champions without doubt. But those Twins look like they are going to be a helluva challenge over the coming years. I was worried about the Reds.. visions of those years in the Buffalo playthrough where they were so often the stumbling block kept coming to mind but the guys gutted it out. Offense really hit a slump other then a few games but the pitching kept coming good to keep us in it.
Uresti's form really had the wheels come off.. 4-23 in the ALCS and 1-18 in the WS!!
Fisher 😮 every time you get the big one he drops the money. shouldn't be surprised. He basically took back what was lost in the season 😖
Great to see the Fan Loyalty finally but the great 'pathetic' mark lol Your voice said it all... excited but not the greatest term to feel good about. Let's see what that does going forward.
Lots of tough decisions to come and it looks like the door will be closed on several players to keep the books balanced. Would love to see Ortega somehow kept but unless he takes a big drop that's tough to imagine now.
God job the farm is in such good shape 👍

Thank you. I'll probably try to make some kind of offer to The Franchise if we clear enough salary via trades that I have the ability to put something out there, but it's not going to be close to his current demand, so unless he gets more reasonable we're probably saying goodbye soon...
