    Congratulations on another WS win. Loved the Toribio trade, absolute no-brainer. I'd also like to echo the thoughts of other members of the WWSD, and say that you should think about trading Mendoza now, for a prime prospect or two.

      Thank you! I guess anything is possible, but John Fisher seems like the kind of guy who would trade away a player who just won both the ALCS and WS MVP because he was going to make too much money. And although I work for Virtual John Fisher, I am NOT anything like him!!!

    Love that you continue the Series! After over 15 seasons, it would be very interesting to get a look at the season & career Records page! How all those new players compare to the legends of old!

      Other than Jake Ortega, not many of our players are on the leader boards for the A's yet... but they have a long history before us!

    I think the Lantz trade was a good idea. I was thinking yesterday that who knows, perhaps Ortega can be another Colt Keith and return to us down the line and spark another revival or WS run.
    It's a tough call, but I am going to side with whyme on getting what you can prospect or OF-wise on Mendoza now. I know it would be nice to keep him, but I think we need to clear more off the books this winter and Richards is prime at Catcher, not 1B. Ultimately your call, but Mendoza got us a WS Championship which is what we wanted.
    I'd like to see some wheeling and dealing next episode for the other guys with value you mentioned. Maybe we could even pick up a ML OF somewhere as well, otherwise I think prospects are the way to go.

      Ha, thank you, it's funny, I was thinking that there's no guarantee I won't try to finagle a trade to get Ortega back at some point if we do lose him this offseason!

    Always enjoy these end of season run throughs. I think the decision to hold tight on Palomares was well vindicated with neither prospective replacement having end of seasons that would have added anything to our team.
    Nice work on the trade moving on from Toribio. Lantz looks like he will do a job for us later on and Toribio was clearly surplus to our infield requirements.
    Still wish we could hang on to Ortega but it's just not on the cards and I'll be looking with interest to see where he ends up and what deal he can get for himself. Good much to The Franchise ❤
    I kind of agree with the other guys on Mendoza being look at as someone to trade but equally can see a lot of value in holding onto him and keeping Richards on a bit of a leash for a while longer. Such a shame he was not open to an early contract deal but clearly someone that knows his worth.

      Thank you. Looking forward to getting the offseason underway. Even if the big news will be us trading away some good players and watching Dorrah and The Franchise sign somewhere else!

    I like the trade for Lantz, but as far as any other trades go my opinion is mostly unchanged in that I'd like to see Orosco traded but nothing else seems terribly urgent at the moment.

      @oldschoolsports  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I need to get at least $20 million off the books just to be able to go into next season with a $15 million scouting budget and $25 million in player development, and I'd like to be able to go higher than that in player development. Orosco will only free up $7 million, so I'll be doing more than just trading him.

      @@averyshaham1697 Good point! After we signed Iwata that kind of officially sealed the departures of Dorrah and Ortega, but with the modest cut to the budget and all of the other contracts we have signed, I definitely have some more cleaning up to do this offseason that I typically do. Have been hoping the front-loaded contracts would help a bit, and they certainly have, but I've still tried to keep most of a very talented squad together, and it has started getting expensive beyond my means!

    Hopefully with the trades you wanna make. You'll get a MLB ready cf.
    Sad to see Ortega go but he went out on top n it is the right move for you not to go crazy n entertain him with his asking price

    • @oldschoolsports
      @oldschoolsports  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's hard to say goodbye to The Franchise, but it's also hard to argue that it's not the right move given his age, health, and contract demands. I still may throw a real cheap offer at him, but do not expect that he will accept.
      It would be nice to find a CF, but if we have to go into next season with Harman and the prospect Jesus Aguilar I think we can make it work. Aguilar was our big IAFA signing in 2034 and is a lefty hitter, so at least it would be a proper platoon situation. I don't think Aguilar is going to be a star, but I think we can get league average offense with above average defense and speed from Harman/Aguilar, which for a number nine hitter for a low budget team is probably still technically a win.
      Plus Ibekwe and Jenkins are both free agents... if I make enough trades to cut payroll I could go after one of them on a cheap deal!

    I noticed you don’t seam to care about stamina and quality start % for your starters pitchers. Can you tell me a little about that philosophy? Just too expensive for you to value that particular aspect of a starting rotation?

    • @oldschoolsports
      @oldschoolsports  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I definitely care about those things, but just haven't seemed to develop many starters with 60+ Stamina this time around. And without that stamina it's hard to have a real high quality start % even if you are still a really good pitcher. Definitely wouldn't call it a philosophy or intentional on my part, more one of those things that just happens to be what it is in this game!

    Definitely think it’s time for Ortega to leave Oakland. I’d pay maybe 12.5mil year to year for him.
    I’d probably be willing to trade Mendoza just to get Richards in the lineup- AFAIK you can’t manipulate Richards service time any more, and if that’s true any time spent in AAA is just wasting him.

    • @oldschoolsports
      @oldschoolsports  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I can still manipulate Richards' service time if I wanted to. He only has 30 days MLB service time right now from September, and still has minor league options. Right now he'd be eligible to be a free agent after the 2046 season, but if I dumped him back in AAA for a good chunk of next season so he wasn't earning MLB service time and then brought him up midway through the year, his service time would be low enough that he wouldn't be eligible for free agency until after 2047. I actually did this with Arreola this year when he wouldn't sign with us for a reasonable amount (he was up 30 days in late 2039, we brought him up midway through this season, and his total service time right now 139 days, so he still has six more seasons until he will be a FA.
      I wasn't thinking of doing that at all, but now that you have planted the idea in my head, I can't say it's a zero probability! Which I know was not your point!!!
      I might try to throw a lowball offer out to Ortega out of loyalty, but I'm not expecting him to accept it!

  • @jbrax425
    @jbrax425 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    It's been a good run for Ortega but he's in decline and wrecked. As well, 28 mil isn't a bad price if you are a big team. Unfortunately, Fisher is still the owner. So it just makes sense to get the Comp pick for him. Chances are, and it's harsh to say, he's leaving at the right time. He has just enough value to draw a good contract but isn't the MVP level guy he once was.

    • @oldschoolsports
      @oldschoolsports  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I may throw him a lower offer he has almost no chance of accepting out of loyalty, but I can't argue with your logic. I think his next contract could be really bad for his new team, and that's a risk we just can't take in Oakland!
