    Thanks for the vedio. Really hard and nice work. But you forgot to matching the yellow dot in the tire with valve stem .
    Because yellow dot mean the heaviest zone in the tire and it should facing the heaviest zone in the wheel which is valve stem. To give you the perfect balance when you stick balance wights. Otherwise you will feel front tire shaking

      I use spoke weights and didnt cover balancing in this video.
      This topic so far is the most commonly asked question and ill be sure to cover it in future videos.

      Actually the yellow dot indicates the lightest part of the tire and gets lined up with the valve stem to offset its weight.

    I read the other comments and my question is really just wheel balancing if I change the tires myself on mu AT. I still need to be clear about this🤔 Thanks for the video

      I did not cover balancing, dots or my rational for ignoring it in the video, it has been a frequent topic brought up and id advise to get them balanced.
      In my case, i use spoke weights on the Africa Twin, stick-on weights on the aprilia, no balancing on the crf450r supermoto.
      I rode on the tires without balancing them at all and honestly i couldnt feel the difference until i hit 70mph.
      Id recommend this tool:

    Isn't the dot on the tyre to indicate the position for the valve?

      Yes, its used for balancing (which i dont do on this bike unless its noticeable) its typically used as a weight index like if excess weights need to be applied they would break the bead, rotate the tire on the rim 90 degrees at a time and re check balance until minimal weights are required. Its very useful on cars and bikes that experience high speeds.
      This bike rarely goes over 70mph, so far i have 2200 miles on these tires and havent noticed any hop or vibrations.
      Someday ill get a balancer (probably a bubble balance) so i can do more complete tire installs.
      Nice catch :) first person to notice and say something.

    Thanks for posting this! How do you like the front on wet pavement and gravel? Thanks!

    • @atombawm
      @atombawm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So far its held up in the wet, it doesnt stick as good as a normal 90/10 street tire would but that can be expected.
      On gravel/ dirt roads i see it as a huge upgrade in comparison to the stock tires.
      Ive had loss of traction in the rain with both the front and rear, had to adjust my riding style to compensate for it by reducing my cornering bank angle and they've been fine since.

      @@atombawm Thanks! Living in northwest Washington state I'm having a hard time committing to poor-ish wet traction. I ride year round, may stick with the Michelin Road 5s (amazing wet traction) and keep avoiding gravel.
      Update;
      Now on Michelin Adventures and very happy with them. 170 miles today riding flooded backroads in the rain. No issues. With the tires at least. 😉

    What torque wrench are you using? Looks $$$ but I need a new one. Thank you

    • @atombawm
      @atombawm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For torque wrenches I use:
      1/4" drive digital bikemaster
      3/8" drive clicker (carlyle)
      3/8" drive digital Quinn
      A 1/2" drive digital greatwrench
      1/2" drive clicker (carlyle)
      For the digital wrenches i put in fresh lithium rechargeable AA batteries before each use, if the batteries are low they wont provide accurate readings and you can over torque or under torque the fastener.

    Is that a Nova project car in the background ? ( I know the answer ) I'm a Nova fan !

      It is! Im glad to meet a fellow muscle car enthusiast. I have everything i need to finish it except time but its high up on my "need to finish" list. If youre interested in a video of it let me know.

      @@atombawm I would really like a video of the Nova. I've owned two but currently do not have one. Life got in the way and had to sell my Novas as the need to support a number of bills as I also suffered from loosing my paycheck. Maybe in the near future I can track down a 4 speed Nova again. Always a 4 speed (or 5 ). Thanks !

    Why no balance?

    • @atombawm
      @atombawm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats an excellent question.
      I have spoke weights opposite of the schrader valve on this bike and it seems to keep them fairly well balanced. In the event that the wheels are noticeably out of balance or if i plan on traveling at a high speed I'd definitely have them balanced.
      For instance, the wheels of the Aprilia has stick on weights because it experiences sustained high speeds and needed balancing but my crf450r supermoto has no weights at all because its not really practical to go faster than 70mph and it feels smooth.
      Typically if i feel wheel hop/ vibration id make sure the beads are evenly seated and explore getting them balanced if it came to that.

    Tire looks like it's backwards

    • @atombawm
      @atombawm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it does. the tread pattern on front tires is typically reversed in a matching set.
      Has to do with the performance requirements between front and rear. The dunlop Q3 carbon, contiattack and others have the same opposing tread pattern on the front in comparison to the rear.
      Theres some good articles that can be found that breaks it down into the physics of it all.
