    Thank for this modern style practical presentation of Heidegger, making the profound philosophers analysis done many years ago, very relevant today. Important with such presentation because it makes clear that it is not enough to see and feel the problematic effects of technology - there is a need to deeper, namely, to solve this problem we have to change our conception of truth, where Being is just seen as Bestand - standing resource. People consume nature and each other as well.
    I did an exam on Heidegger 40 years ago and it is inspiring to see that people of today discover and appreciate this very profound thinker. I am sure Heidegger also is pleased, as another of his worries was the end of deep thinking/philosophy in European culture, where in hybris one thinks science and technology has made philosophy irrelevant and therefore reduced to mere history of ideas.
    Interestingly enough Heidegger brings up the same fundamental questions that is asked in Vedanta philosophy of India.

    Great presentation, gets right to the heart of what he was saying, without getting weighed down by the context of what others ma have been saying. Technology is our life now, but we need to be as aware as ever how we live that life.

    Technology is just one way of poesis - revealing truth. But it has basically become the only one, leading to robot life, impersonalism and aleniation, leaving less and less space for beauty, love and the sweet taste of personal interaction. Love becomes reduced to sex exploitation. That is also an effect of the technological poesis.

    • @shanashana8027

    • @Tapas08
      @Tapas08 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shanashana8027 Yes, when technology or any material activity is connected to a higher purpose, it is not just instrumental to get a material result but supports the higher purpose and has therefore a broader impact on the world. The perspective of modern science and technology is not objective, although they claim - it is just one perspective, that of seeing the world as a mere resource for control and exploitation.
      Heidegger pointed out the need of a holistic perspective, and that is also the perspective of ancient Vedas of India.

    Greater than the danger of the atom bomb for humanity today is the essence of technology.
    The essential feature of technology is
    to reveal the real
    in the mode of ordering
    as `always-for-use':
    to make anything and everything available
    at the push of a button.
    I see in the essence of technology
    that man is under a power
    that challenges him
    and opposite which
    he is no longer free.
    Health, youth and freedom
    are the best blessings of life.

    How can we understand information as a "standing-reserve?" Can information be viewed as a resource in the same way that we view coal or petroleum?

    • @jackmclaren768
      @jackmclaren768 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the digital age it could be argued that people have become the "standing-reserve" of information. Bernard Stiegler talks of Algorithmic Governmentality which is the governance of desires and expectations, this is primarily accomplished through mining of individuals online data. So to that extent, humans have become a "standing-reserve" of information for the digital economy.

    Very good video. Heidegger explained like this more often would make for easy scholarship. I believe I disagree with quite a swathe of Heidegger. We're not precisely special as humans; I wouldn't be surprised at all if nature saw itself as standing reserve. And assuming this, for technology not to challenge (as though the challenging and bringing-forth are somehow discretely distinct; not even fuzzily distinct) would somehow make technology unnatural, which isn't at all the case, seeing as it is from our nature, and it's own nature viz. Aristotle's four causes. There's a few modicums in Heidegger though that seem useful. For example, economics could be defined as the set of processes which predicate over the standing frame. Though, I would personally invert the definition to have the standing frame be defined. But it does allow us to distinguish the way we individually see things poetically to the way "man" sees things "enframing" (so we can actually limit his thesis to make it more plausible).
