Mr. Baum was a fantastic interview. He was so poised, so interesting and dignified. He even displayed a wonderfully understated sense of humor. I am so glad he and his group of friends supported each other and survived the camps. I dont know if he is still with us but his testimony in this Shoah video is an invaluable memoir forever.

It seems he retained the philosophy of high culture throughout his life.

A lovely man who gave a wonderful testimony. I’m just sorry that he wasn’t able to have a warm relationship with his father. His father missed so much and would have been so proud of him. God bless you, sir.

So glad this came up again on TH-cam. The current generation needs to hear this. The interviewer also did a great job- so often I’ve seen complaints of the interviewers but she did great and no complaints on any comments! Mr Baum was outstanding.

I like his Swabian dialect, after all these years still has the accent. I am originally Swabian from the same area near Stuttgart. Thanks for his testimony of how evil people can be.

Some terrible ordeal this gentleman had to go through and is a real survivor. Luck was a bit on his side too. Stories like these give you a reason to keep going in this chaotic world.

I haven't watched the video to the point where he said that, but I think it's reasonable to assume that this is a reference to Hitler.

Wonderful testimony from this man, so thoughtful and articulate. He gave such rich detail with a streak of dignity and humor. So much respect for him. But this interviewer was not only ineffectual as she didnt ask questions when it would have been critical to do so, and its clear he was receptive and would have answered, but also was either choking on her spit or sucking on candy in the background and it was so distracting. Terrible interviewer, fantastic man.

We lost my dad in August 2000. I can thankfully tell you that he had a wonderful life once he reached the U.S. after the war. In his later years he became quite active in public speaking, with the message "Never Forget." I am proud to be his son, Peter.

@@finylvinyl66 Dear Peter, your father touched me with his warmth and intelligence and the song about Life is Worth Living. And his humor and smile, just amazing. He reminded me of my grandfather that was taken by the Germans for forced labour in Germany and he was really sick when he came back after liberation. But he was so thankful my grandmother and mother that was very little survived the hungerwinter in The Hague. I asked mainly my aunt and grandmother about the war and they told me the most horrible things but I wanted to know and never forgot it. Greetings from the Netherlands.

@@finylvinyl66 my husband and I were stationed in Stuttgart in Ludwigsburg. While there we made a point of going to Auschwitz’s and Krakow because we wanted to bare witness to that peace of history. Listening to your father took me back to seeing some of the places he spoke about. I appreciate your father sharing his story. It is important that everyone listen to these testimonies so we can try to make better choices in how we deal with our fellow man. I wish your family many blessings and I thank God for survivors like your father. May he rest in Heavenly peace.
