Your story is one of the most inspiring and equally tragic of any that I've heard. I had a friend that had the same diagnosis (not sure if it's the same type) and the doctor gave him 2 years. He lived another 10 and had his wits about him right till the end. I came across your channel because I've been following the ukraine conflict and was looking for something that was fully unbiased. My brother from Salisbury went through the same fight with his brain cancer as you there in Adelaide also. My quadraplegic friend gave me his outlook he lived by -
"Every day you wake up is a gift, enjoy life as you are one of the lucky ones"
I try to live up to this also as I'm dealing with the consequences of a car crash that I'm truly lucky to be alive. Police and Firies told me I would normaly would have died in the crash from their experience and I died twice on the operating table while the surgons battled to put me back together.

Had a very similar situation with doctors failing to communicate between eachother for treatments and keeping the patient informed with my mother during her cancer battle. I saw how much the uncertainty impacted her health, as her condition was not something that had any known effective treatments and was inoperable. It was quite frustrating to her as much as painful to us to see her down in the dumps mentally during it as the chemo itself is a bloody battle on its own as you know.

Your story is so familiar to me, I can’t really talk with anyone but one of my children about it. My illness was discovered three years ago by chance. I knew something was deadly wrong, was the time of the sickness and lockdowns. It was common with respect to my age, therapy was held off for a year. When I became very sick, I was given a daily pill, for what ever life I had left, no one new what that would be. My visit last night, was “you will grow immune to therapy”, this new doctor was more direct, and smarter, no dates, but few years is implied. When a person faces death, you look at it, and find what ever peace there is in it, or you loose your mind. I don’t think about it, waiting for the conversation with the grandkids and how to tell them and not tell them, like a cold that makes you feel a little bad, that never goes way. Sticking a port in my chest was never an option, wishing I was dead every day, sick as a dog, we not going to happen. I was lucky with this is form of treatment otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this today. I live with one of my children, I would never admit this to anyone else but, we have dark jokes about my dying and we laugh. It’s like you know an important date is coming, not sad or happy, just there, I’m ok with it, God Bless you Willy. . .

Willie: Thanks for telling your story. I am much older than you and have suffered through some serious medical issues; not as serious as yours but somewhat similar. My body insists on growing tumors. Mine are on my adrenal glands and have affected my kidneys. I started noticing issues about 40 years ago. I went to the doctor and was misdiagnosed! For many years I was ill with symptoms and given entirely the WRONG medication and medical treatment. I finally saw a doctor who immediately recognized what was causing my symptoms and treatments were immediately stopped. I soon had a surgery to remove a large tumor on my right adrenal gland. I was hoping that would end it. But no. My left adrenal gland started growing a tumor. I was lucky because my tumors were treatable. Unfortunately, my kidneys have been greatly compromised. The doctors have told me that I will need dialysis. That was eight years ago. I refused. For some reason my kidney function has kinda stabilized and is working well enough to keep my alive? God has been good to me. I hope he is good to you and the quality of your life remains and lasts for many more years.

You made the right decision. We chose the surgery for our family member. It was horrible. She lost the ability to move her entire side and speech. She lived 2 yrs longer, but the quality of life was absolutely horrible. We all regret convincing her to make that decision. It affected me deeply and made me decide then and there what decision I would make if it ever comes knocking on my door.

The maturity, integrity & neutrality you show in your reporting on topics which can be very polarising, especially given the massive propaganda around them, belies your years. You could teach most so called journalists a lot older than you are, about true journalism.
Hopefully your reporting inspires other journalists to try to reach the same standards and raise them too.

You have a great attitude. One thing I *did* notice was that you seem to have a great deal of empathy.
    Here's something to think about:
Of all the zillions of people that have lived to a fairly old age and died without having ever been scanned for tumors, we have no idea how many of them did in fact have undiagnosed tumors that either stopped growing or for what ever reason didn't become symtomatic.
You've probably gotten all the unsolicited advice that you can handle but - continue living well. Don't eat crap - don't eat sugar and bread etc.. Keep doing what you're doing. Looks like you've already got the right attitude.

It sucks to hear this, you are absolutely killing it with your amazing attitude. Strength to you 💪. My favorite quote is from the Sandman comic book. Death goes to collect the soul of an infant, and the baby asks like an adult "is that all I get". Death then replies "You get what everyone gets, you get a lifetime". I found another instance of this same thought in Marcus Aurelius's (the sad emperor of Rome) memoirs. "Life is like sitting on a rock observing the world, it doesn't matter if it lasts a second or an eternity". I take strength from these words and I try not to take anything for granted. Live well!

My Father had a one in a similar place but on the left controlling side, but his doctor never sent him for a scan our local hospital back in late 80s UK didn't have an MRI back then, but my dads did give him symptom's and from time to time he would collapse and it would have a stroke like effect so his doctor put him on stroke medication and he took this for about 9years i think, until while ill again needing an ambulance by chance he was taken to a much bigger hospital, given an MRI and told he had never had any stroke at all and it was a massive tumer causing pressure inside his skull, i was only about 16 while this was happening so my memory of the full details isn't great but somewhere around now they decided to try and remove it, which left him with no use of his left side, my dad used to be an active guy he was an army mechanic until his early 20s and served out in what was then Malaya after that he worked as a motor bike mechanic, he raced bikes had more trophies than the house had space, but he died age 57 having spent the best part of 10years in a wheelchair in an old folks home, so from the point it got so big it was out competing his brain for space he got around 20years half on medication that might have even been making him worse, half stuck in a chair with people 20-30years older than him, so make the most of what you've got,, always live your life to the fullest

I am 60 and have fought accoustic nuromas for 30 years! The first surgery was state of the art skull base procedures 19 hours/7 surgeons, who later said I had only a few weeks left and i was losing my vision in days. Same whole headaches, as you, same sudden surgery, no prior warning about being near deaf, loud tinnitus and loads of local pain every since. I was among the top cat sailors and training for the '92 olympics in tornado sailing and studying instrument flying, one day, my Vietnam F-4 phantom instructer said your done take her down. I knew he was right but it still took 9 mos in total to get the correct diagnosis with a mri then cross state flight to mayo clinic and surgery within a day. I was blind for a while in the hospital but my 30 bday was a day i could see some rain on the window..
I even eventually made it back to professional sailing. An Aussie was my lifelong nemesis, Dryland from Sydney and I dueled for three decades. Being a pilot, notsomuch.

    Hey Willy.
I’m sure it’s tougher for you than you let on, though you’re clearly a strong man and very capable. Coping very well with the tumour whilst making unforgettable and informative videos.
I was a carer for four years for my mother who was diagnosed with grade 4, she opted for the surgery and well, she did manage to get back to the point where she could function again.Took a lot of work! Though From my experience I do think you made the right choice in keeping yourself functioning and doing what you do and doing it so well.
But yeah, for what it matters I respect and admire you sir.

At Cern there is a new treatment facility where they can hit inoperable Tumors with high intensity radiation without damaging the surrounding tissue, just for your information. Maybe you can get one of those places there even if its still in development. Also a Keto diet can significantly slow down the growth of tumors, maybe you wanna think about it.

    Hey Willy 👋.
You're as amazing as a person can be. And seeing how you're keeping "the control" of things is such an inspiration. You're absolutely a legend. I've been struggling with a lifelong disease myself for some time now myself..
Sorry for the directness, though may I ask, nobody has ever suggested "Proton therapy" or proton beam therapy..? It's very recent, the past 5-10 years only whereas it's been used in cases much like yours, and with great results. And as its something far away from chemo, you can keep doing it forever. There's no side effects as long as the surgeons are using it properly.
All the best William. Always glad to see your uploads. Truly one of the most inspirational people online and worldwide.

It's good to talk about it brother. I'm impressed with modern medicine's ability to get such defined specifics and root sources for your specific type of cancer, apart from the fundraising you are providing essential information for advancing research and potential future treatments for it.
You're a legend mate, I can only hope you stay in good active standing and (relative) health for a good time to come. Cheers.

Blessed is he who plants trees under whose shade he will never sit.
    Or
A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.
I like the first variation better. I got worried when I saw the title, thinking something had changed dramatically. Glad it wasn't that. I've seen your other video about this but I still hung on your every word. There was a lot extra in this one too. You are inspiring Matt. Raising all that money to help others is incredible.
My Dad did a trial of a new chemo drug for his brain tumour back in 2012. I wonder if that was the drug you were on. I don't know the name of it, only that they were doing the trial in Melbourne and pulled strings so he could have it done in Geelong so they could be based at home with family around. It didn't work for him.

I wish you well, a cayse for reflection when you are much older like myself, 72 , but at your young age it compresses life . I have over thus year lost most of my sight and I sympathies with the vagueness of medical support , you have to look past what you had and enter your own inner space for a new direction. As your birthday party pointed out, you can celebrate one day and have an accident the next. You are appreciated for what you are doing now, well done.

Many thanks for sharing your story. I'm a doctor myself and just want to say Australians are one of the most stoic people I've known having worked in many other countries myself. What you relate is so typically Aussie in the face of hardship- the ability to have a sense of humour and the mateship of friends and family. I wish you all the very best and will look forward to listening to your channel which I have just discovered.
