This song is especially special because of what it means to the youth in Japan. The band wrote this song for the those who often struggle with feeling lost and alone. They are often looked down upon by the older generation and the suicide rate is astronomical. One OK Rock wrote this to be like an anthem of hope for the youth of the world who feel overlooked and debuted it live with a choir of 1000 teenagers surrounding them.
the song is a response to japan reducing the voting age... its called 18fes because the age reduced from 20 to 18.
Aww, I teared up when I heard this song too, but watch We Are 18 Fes version. I was a puddle. To know that he used his song to lift up the young generation was everything.

This song was written to celebrate Japan’s lowering their voting age requirement from 21 to 18. That was the reason for 18 fes (festival). The band picked 1000 eighteen year olds from video applications and have them learn and practice the song. These 1000 18yr then was invited to the studio and joined a performance with the band to debut the song.
To help you remember: the band is named after the time they used to meet up for practice at one o'clock 😊
Been listening to them for 10 years now, saw them for the first time earlier this year and it was the best experience of my life. They are incredible.

This song is such an anthem. It's great that you enjoyed it. OOR have changed their style over the years and you can check out heavier songs like "Deeper Deeper" and "Liar", songs with orchestra like "I was King" or acoustic ones like "Good Goodbye".
BTW, the song "Take what you want" on their ambitions album is different from the YT version you watched. On the album, they collaborated with "5 Seconds of Summer" to perform this song.
One Ok Rock can touch people's soul with their lyrics and stage performance. Presence is king.

This specific performance video of them hit the spot for me too. This is the song that introduced me to them and I got hooked immediately. One of their songs that I can also recommend is "Stand Out Fit In" which is very applicable to our society. I'm glad you enjoyed their music ❤❤

You can't go wrong with ANY song from our guys and the Ambitions album is one of my absolute favs! FYI the song is in English but they do alot of their songs in both languages just depends on where they are...I HIGHLY recommend Your Tears Are Mine, Hard to love( it's Taka's actual story) Renegades and So Far Gone, Stand out Fit In, Vandalize and about a hundred more lol. My playlist has literally 4+ hrs of just the guys
The name ONE OK ROCK comes from one o'clock. At the time of its formation, studio fees were cheaper every weekend at 1:00 a.m. because of the midnight package, so the o'clock part was replaced with OK and ROCK, and the name was applied to "one okay rock."
Now you may never call us by mistake again.
I think it's because of the Japanese people pronouncing O'clock, it sounds like one oku roku, that's why they changed their band names

I'm sure it's already been mentioned, but the band's name comes from "one o'clock," the time that they used to do band practice. Japanese doesn't really have an L so it sounds more like an R, so the Japanese pronunciation sounds like how they would say "one o'clock." Perhaps this will help you remember the order of their name. =)
You mentioned We Came As Romans. They actually were special guests on ONE OK ROCK's 2015 tour in Europe. OOR just finished up their headlining tour in Europe (while also opening for Muse!) and will be playing some festivals in Japan before heading off on their Asia Tour the rest of the year. They definitely come to the States often though so I have no doubt you will be able to catch them on tour in the future. They're a real treat to see live and I hope they come back sooner rather than later so that you can experience them first-hand.

My favorite song is " Stand out Fit in." The lyrics get me everytime. It always makes me think of my son and what he goes through being bullied in school.

It's so heartwarming to see you guys feel the song just like the rest of us fans do. I loved them for 10 yrs. with "The Beginning" being my first song. I stopped listening to them after a few years but after watching the Rurouni Kenshin movies, I shrieked when I instantly recognized the tune and Taka's voice. You have to listen to Clock Strikes and Wasted Nights for sure!

To give some insight about the lyrics, when he says we are the colors in the dark, he means in the dark, we are all the same because you can’t see colors in the dark. Every tour of them there is actually a DVD concert of it. Idk if they are still available but watching their concerts even just in DVD is a must. That is why eventho I cannot go to their concert, I always find ways to watch their dvd's cuz it's a must experience. You can also still feel that you are there, in that specific venue and concert.

Its actually "ONE O CLOCK" because they made up this name when it was one o clock, because they used to play at 1pm in the weekends. Its cheaper xD
But japanese people pronounce it like "ONE O CROCK." And thats how their name came to be :D

I had always learned their name was One Ok Rock ("One O Krock" with Japanese accent) because that is what time they used to practice on the weekends (one o'clock in the morning)

Hi guys! I want to tell you a little piece of information. Initially, the band themselves did not pronounce their name as One 'Okay' Rock, but literally One 'OCK' Rock. This is because it has a similar pronunciation with 'One o'clock' in Japanese (won oku roku), which is the time that the band used to practice on weekends. They chose to play at one o'clock in the MORNING because all of them were just high school students and it was cheaper to rent the studio during such time. If you look up some of their earliest days history, you will find out more that all of them are just really someone who wants a place that can accept them, and they all found a home in music. No wonder they always make great masterpieces with all of their songs.
Anyway, thank you for the reaction, it is very heartwarming and refreshing to see! I wish you guys would dig more about them because they're literally the GOAT.🤘

Just to give you a little background on why the audience is so into the song... The song was written for the younger generation 18 year olds. (highly recommend you check out the 18fes version) They had young adults submit videos of them, and the band as a whole watched and every one of them and chose 1000 of them to sing this song for the 18 fes. That's a very emotional version to check out. But basically, when the song was written, the legal voting age in Japan had been changed to 18. A lot of the older generation was not for that, thinking that these young adults should just work. The band usually ends their shows with this song because of the impact and message it has. Even as an older guy, this song gets me every time. I found it at a very rough part of my life. And it helped me through. Great reaction!

"Ambitions" is a good album, but I still think 2015's "35xxxv" is their best overall.
I really recommend watching their Live performance of Nobody's Home, especially if it has lyrics since it's a really important song
