- Raeesah Khan admitted to Workers’ Party's (WP) leaders Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim and Abdul Faisal Manap that she had lied about a sexual assault case, a week after her original Parliamentary speech in August, Mr Singh said in a news conference on Thursday (Dec 2).
Responding to questions from journalists, he explained why, despite this, the lie remained uncorrected until her parliamentary admission on Nov 1.

The Workers Party leadership has admitted they knew Raeesah Khan lied months before she confessed in Parliament.
They claim that they gave her time to talk to her family, and wanted her to confess personally in Parliament.
The problem is that the timeline of events does not add up.
- The WP has revealed that they knew she lied a week after she delivered her speech in August.
- She was told to tell her family and clarify personally in Parliament, as soon as she could.
- In September, Ms Khan came down with shingles and could not attend Parliament.
- In October, Ms Khan was again questioned by Min Shanmugam and once again lied, despite already telling the WP leadership that it was a lie.
This is where the Workers’ Party’s explanation starts to crumble.
The WP says that after Ms. Khan lied again, the WP leadership told her she must clarify at the next available opportunity.
HOWEVER, the WP forgets that the next available opportunity then was not the November 2021 parliamentary session, as they want the public to believe!
The October parliamentary session was held over TWO DAYS - 4th October 2021 and 5th October 2021.
Raeesah Khan lied to Min Shan on 4th October 2021.
The WP leaders are now saying they were taken aback, and asked her to come clean at the next available opportunity.
In that case, why didn’t the WP leadership tell her to come clean on THE VERY NEXT DAY on the 5th of October 2021???!!
And even then at any point of time Raeesah Khan could have written personally to the Speaker to confess. A personal confession doesn’t have to be a speech.
Their explanation thus does not hold water.
Does that mean that the WP leadership was trying their best to cover things up until they could not?
Were they complicit in abetting Raeesah Khan’s lies?
At the very least they are complicit when on 4 October 2021 she lied again, and did not compel her to clarify on 5 October 2021.
Was the disciplinary inquiry then not a farce? Since they already knew everything!
It seems we now have the answers to the three ‘Watergate’ questions I asked :
A. What did the WP leadership know about Raeesah Khan’s lies?
Everything.
B. When did they know about it?
Almost immediately. A week after she lied to be precise.
C. What did they do about this information?
Absolutely nothing.

@@gparamaeswary7276 get your timeline correct, this was in aug21 that PS instructed RK to substantiate but RK failed to do it so what WP should or must do is to own up to the lies at the earliest moment but WP chose to kept quiet including not attending to the police interview in oct21, so making the police force the scapegoat is something very disappointing by the WP. Do you agree that PS is at fault also for not taking damage control at the early part even though she asked RK to substantiate

Why didnt raeesah attend this press conference personally to apologize? It seems like she only apologized on Instagram for the sake of it and decided to "run away" with minimum accountability. Left the rubbish for the incumbents to clear. Sad.

She seemed more focused on justifying why she lied, her own alleged SA experience, her passion for causes, etc. Also she should have attended this to address questions from the media and address the public directly.

The tone of her apology was insincere, and btw she hasnt even apologized to her party in her letter, after all that Pritam has done for her in particular. It speaks volumes about her character.
P Singh stance on member’s individual accountability is preposterous n horrendous! As leader n elder of the party, n that of opposition, he’s saying even if he knew a member had strayed, it’s not his responsibility to protect the party’s image n integrity n dignity of parliament? So if he knew a member had committed murder, it’s for the guilty member to surrender to the police or until he’s arrested, otherwise it’s not his responsibility to intervene? Does he even know the meaning of leadership?

P Singh was quite clear that she needed some 'space' to settle with her family first b4 she make an official statement in Parliament. P. Singh as her leader gave her that little available time to sort things out. That's was, in my opinion, a reasonable move. After all, it is not a life and death situation that warrants immediate action. As long as she admit her untruth, that's is in itself, an honorable action on her part. But if what she said about P. Singh telling her to not admit the truth was true, then that is a different story.

The space given is for her to resolve personal issues, not repeat lies! It’s definitely not a matter of her life and death but that of not only hers but the party’s political life n death! Ya, don't forget that even Raeesah said that his first reaction is to get her to go to the COP, but then she pull out the sexual assault victim card and he handled it with care, but Raeesah betrayed his goodwill.
Raeesah has an incentive to push the blame to others so that she won't get in trouble with the COP, so she can just twist until she not at fault. She probably didn't even know that what she said will be published. So for her to say something that is not in her interest, means that its most likely to be true.

From what I have heard, he was unaware that she had lied the first the time.
Then Pritam found out that Khan had lied, she also told Pritam that she was a sexual assault victim herself so he gave her time to resolve it.
Then when it came the second time, she continued with her lies. By that time it was already too late and police investigations were already launched against her.

What Pritam is literally saying with a hope and a prayer no one find out that Reesha lied in parliament. Maybe hindsight is 20/20 but once senior leadership knows that an MP had lied maybe give her at most a mth to come clean in parliament and resigned or the party will take the action to sack her. She did not win the seat on her own merit it was a party effort and enough Sengkang residents wants to give the opposition a chance. This literally set the opposition movement back years.

His one to one of " take ownership " was a "he says she says " truth. So who is telling the truth. R had told her friends by WhatsApp immediately after the meeting on " retaining the narrative ".A wise prosecutor would then use the whole time line of events to narrow to the truth. On 12 April when Pritam met Miss Loh and Nathan, he didn't mention that he told RK about the "ownership "but instead said " O won't judge". Therefore, we should ask whether this is the normal behaviour of a person who was so adamant and insistent on " take ownership ".It left a big gap.
And " take ownership " was again not in the press statement of Dec 2.
This will make anyone wonder.
And why withheld the 7/8 knowledge of the lie from the CEC and only announced on the day held their COP ie 2nd Dec. Coincidence or the fear that the 2 cadres would be telling this fact to the COP.

RK is a leader capable of speaking for herself, there is no need to implicate others in the party. She has apologised and admitted to her wrongdoing, so let's move on.

Perhaps Mr Pritam Singh could have shed more light on the state that Raeesah Khan was in when she admitted to him that she had lied in Parliament. That her mental state back then led him to make the decision of giving her some reprieve, allowing her time to speak with her family about her lying in Parliament and the revelation of her own sexual assault incident which must have been most traumatic for her to recount. Hence the compassion accorded to her by the party…..

Pritam is both sharp and organized in his thinking. Saying only those essential that need to be said and handle the media question very well. Good for Singapore to have someone like him to check and raise issues of the government. Internally there may be some issues, but big picture is the welfare of the people of Singapore. I too thank you for raising issues of concern when things don't seem right or issues needed to be clarified. But numbers too are impt. Otherwise, after every long and tedious debate when it comes to a vote, majority of house decides and not the merit of debate

She is given due process, and it is steady and coherent. When I travel people oversea ask LKY house will get turn over? Opposite party still have to ask them to please end the saga and didn't dig deeper into the house issue in Parliament. how long did other party MP adultery saga last? there is plenty of cases it drag out while finding the courage trying to do good for Woman in SG in the wrong way ending up in Jail and never coming back to MP or work force. if a party leader knows a party member has lied, and does not immediately inform the public and sack that party member, that is a leader showing clear lack of integrity and should not be in public service. Pritam Singh already announced on 2 Dec 2021, he was fully aware of the untruth told by Raeesah Khan in August 2021, yet chose to "give her space". He did not come clean to the public, nor did he take the right action as a party leader to sack her. Pritam Singh should resign.
If PS did that, you would be saying totalitarian and communist. There is a delay because that is democratic, and democratic enough to give space to RK to clarify without putting the sword down on her.
