“When I play, I play sort of like talking, you know, syllables, you say a sentence here, a sentence there and then, I’ve to stop and think for something else to keep my conversation going. But his didn’t seem to be that at all. It was fluent, he flowed when he played. He could get something going and it was like a song and it would just go on and on. Ideas continuously flowed, I don’t have that. There is not a lot of people that I hear that have that but Stevie had it.” - BB King
Anything from this Mocambo show is pretty much the pinnacle of blues guitar playing.

Stevie like some other great guitarists doesn't read music. It one of the reasons he adlibs a lot. If you listen to different performances of the same song, they vary as to his mood because he is the guitar. He and it are one. Even he said he idolized Jimmy Hendrix. He was an inspiration to him.

Every guitarist plays "Little Wing" because is such a great vamp and progression to play over as an instrumental... SVR's is likely the best in that format. The blues are freeform, the song is freeform like jazz it's about improvising, in the moment, the zone.
The original by Jimi was a song with lyrics but short verses followed by the jam where he let loose his guitar...
Well, she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running wild
    Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
    And her fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
    Riding with the wind
When I'm sad, she comes to me
With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free
"It's alright", she says, "It's alright"
Take anything you want from me, take anything
    Anything
    Fly on, little wing

From Hendrix' Axis Bold As Love album, Jimi performed it live a lot and there is plenty of footage. The more of live Hendrix you listen to the more you will see Hendrix style and phrasing in SRV's playing. It may appear that Stevie is free forming or improvising on this performance, but he's often absolutely nailing much of Jimi's phrasing from some of his legendary performances. Often, when SRV plays a Hendrix tune, he'll toss in a lick or phrase from a totally different Hendrix song. Here, when he returns from adjusting the amps, to change his sound, we get a touch of Machinegun followed by a little Castles Made Of Sand. Of all these artists that died too young, Stevie lived the longest, and took it the furthest.
I do recommend Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. In the 70s he took over much of Hendrix's sound after he died. Frankie is still around. And yes, he's on a similar level to Jimi and SRV.

Also riviera paradise, and his duet with Albert king! He was a legend in his own right and told Stevie “you’re the only white boy with a black daddy and I’m him” 😂

Have to understand how blues works...He uses basically one scale to jam over these chords...Pentatonic scale and Major Pentatonic scale...it's all about technique, phrasing and intensity

Sadly this video cuts out the end of the song. He goes full Hendrix playing on the floor and flopping his guitar around. Still a good video though.

The live version of Hendrix's original, from Live in the West, is so much more mind blowing than this version by Stevie. I've gone to see Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Prince and Joe Satriani, and in my opinion, Satriani played the cleanest, and Ray Vaughan played the best.
