    That song from SRV was an homage to Jimi Hendrix mother. Notice he didn't sing because only Jimi could sing to his mother. He also played small parts of other JH songs because he was SRV influence to play for other people.😊

    This show is one of the best live performances ever recorded. I've said it before, but it is well documented that Stevie was very high on cocaine for this show, which explains a lot of the sweating, and yet it is still one of his best shows ever!

    You guys noticed how Stevie doesn't let up at this show. Before the show, Stevie actually said that he was gonna go out there and 'Not let up.' It happened that way for real. Chris and Tommy said that they didn't even have a chance to grab a drink between songs. Stevie never played from a Set List - it was all from his gut and heart and the guys were right there with every beat flawlessly backing him.

    Do a TH-cam lookup for Jimi Hendrix Little Wing solo. SRV's cover is essentially a faithful rendition of Jimi's solo but embellished with Stevie's style. Both are fantastic and hearing Jimi's original (improvised) version shows just how great he was and why SRV admired him so much.

    • @Azabaxe80
      @Azabaxe80 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True. This is one of Hendrix's signature songs, and SRV didn't deviate very much from the original arrangement. Very respectful, but oh so soulful. When I was a kid I slagged SRV for being a Hendrix clone, but very quickly I recognized the error of my ways. Unfortunately, soon after I realized how great he was, he passed. One of the few regrets I have in my life is never having seen him live.

Stevie Ray Vaughan recorded an instrumental version in 1984, although it was not released until 1991 after Vaughans death his interpretation of the song won the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

    Yes, it's Jimi's song and it has lyrics (from Axis Bold as Love album). Eric Clapton said that Stevie was a channel for his guitar, the music just played through him. I watched a guitarist try playing with 13 gauge strings like Stevie used and he couldn't do it; hurt his hands too much, too hard to bend.

    Fun fact. Stevie's older brother Jimmie Vaughan, from The Fabulous Thunderbirds, had a band in the '60s that toured with Hendrix around the south and rumor is the wah pedal that Stevie used he got from his brother, who in turn had bought it from Jimi Hendrix while on tour. I don't know if it's true but I like to think it is that Stevie played Hendrix covers with his own wah pedal. It is possible.

    Oh man, what a killer choice - I love the Hendrix original, but for me SRV's take on this song is one of the greatest things I've ever listened to. He used to play it live all the time but never released a recorded version while he was alive - but one was released on the posthumous 'The Sky Is Crying' album, and it's just under 7 minutes of sheer musical bliss, amazing stuff. Stevie is incredible of course, but Double Trouble is every bit as good along with him - if you listen to it with headphones, you can hear Stevie's amp buzzing. Incredible stuff for sure. Peace and love from Canada!

    At the end when he went over to the Amp they were playing just apiece of (1983 a merman I shall turn to be) by Jimi Hendrix. A long instrumental type song with VERY COOL LYRICS. A very very good song I recommend to listen to while chilling with good earbuds. Like your podcast 👌
