She knew how good Haley was, and has said so in interviews, and also said that Haley was very kind and helpful - despite the tripe that Mikayla SmallTownBabe is spouting. She was probably trying desperately to see that she kept up with Haley, and she did do very well. She is a good singer with a good voice. I also am not really a Country fan. For me far to many of the songs that Lauren and Scotty sang were dreich, doleful and depressing things that sounded very samey although I do realise there is actually quite a variety overall. I did like this song though (and I'm a keen fan of Jerry Lee Lewis' Country singing - he's the absolute best of them all as far as I'm concerned). By contrast, Haley sang a great variety of material superbly, including Blue and House of the Rising Sun with a standing ovation for the latter, and the hottest performances of that series were nearly all by Haley - despite the crap that was being dished out by JLo and especially Randy. And note that no-one else had such consistently harsh criticisms, to such an extent that the media picked up on it, and some established artists also weighed in complaining about how she was being picked on. I think I've seen posts by Black Dog in which he has said that Lauren is very good, and some years on since she was sixteen on Idol she is very good, just not as good as Haley whom we both think is astonishingly talented. This, to me, was a prime example of them favoring Lauren (and Scotty) because that's the final the producers wanted. If you pay attention, you'll notice that on EVERY SINGLE portion that Lauren sings, the background singers are singing with her to support her voice and make her sound better. Then notice that they don't sing during Haley's parts at all. So obvious when you pay attention smh
The performance justifies both of their inclusion in the Top 3. Far superior performance to the other duet of the night. Powerful, rock-solid pitch-wise. One of Lauren most confident performances to date.
Why is everyone taking this duet and turning it into a competition between the two? They're both amazing and this duet proved that they should have been the Top 2.
All this comparing the two using this song is pointless. It's a duet and they are performing as one not to see who can stand out more than the other. Haley can sing any genre of music well, unlike Lauren, and she sings all of them incredibly well, even country. Indeed, she was not only far better in this country song duet with Lauren, but she also sings Blue far better than Lauren does as well. Indeed, go listen to Lauren's version of Blue on the Grand Old Opry and then listen to Haley's version on Idol. There is also another version of Haley singing Blue with her father on guitar circulating on TH-cam that is even better than her American Idol performance.
LOL Another stunner, Repad! Thanks a bunch! Her back home posse say that two of Haley's favorite genres are Country and Rock. Here again she is spectacular, and brings Lauren along with her so that they both look/sound like stars and both get the kudos. I love her solos, but I've got to say that every duet she's been in has brought down the house, and has set an embarrassing bar for any other duo to even attempt.
Lauren's best duet, better than any of her duets with Scotty. She's really animated here, moving more dynamically than at any other time, soloing or duetting with Scotty. She probably got a confidence boost singing with Haley who has the stage confidence. Girl power.

1:15 Steven Tyler turned and started watching Hayley sing, he completely ignored Lauren. The only time he acknowledged Lauren was when he forced to because she was directly in front of him.
Season 10 overall had by far the best talent top to bottom. Although I love Lauren and Scotty, Haley should have won. She was and is the best singer hands down. The teeny boppers screwed it up.

Maybe her very versatility counted against her. Randy was certainly ramming it home that she didn't know what kind of singer she really was. To many of us she was a brilliant singer who could, and did sing almost anything. And why not? She proved she could sing the sort of thing that Lauren and Scottty were doing. She duetted with Lauren, sharing honours on a Country song; she sang Blue brilliantly, another Country song. Then there was House of the Rising Sun, claimed as a Country covered a lot by Country singers. She also did a big ballad, I Who Have Nothing. Then there are the things that Lauren and Scotty could never have tackled. There were her Rock numbers like Hold Me, Benny and the Jets, and What Is And What Should Never Be. And of course thon brilliant Jazz duet of Moanin' with Casey. All these songs were way beyond Scotty and Lauren, good voices though they had. But, it was so sweet how Scotty and Lauren went to classes together and were made for one another and there was the romance building up there. And they had all those interviews so we could get to know what sweet people they were and what their background was. Haley had been brought up on a very varied musical diet by a very musical family. Not that Idol told us anything about her. They didna even interview her as they did so many of the others. - and especially Scotty and Lauren. Who knew her parents had a mainly Rock band covering a lot of Classic Rock; she'd studied Jazz, or her father played Jazz as well as Rock? But Idol made sure we knew all about Lauren and Scotty. The dice were definitely loaded against Haley.

evelyn price I was listening to Miranda Lambert's version yesterday, and I was struck by the fact that she sings the melody exactly the same all the way through. In the duet here you can hear Haley slurring and sliding around the melody, particularly going up above the basic melody, and at times swooping and slurring down low, that extra something that Haley so frequently adds that even JLo had commented on it before the Last 5 when Idol was getting worried that Haley might just beat their chosen couple that JLo had to weigh in with Randy to give criticisms she rarely gave to others.
haley is crazy good!! its not the best singer that wins in these shows its a singer who gets most votes that wins. and its hard to say whats best, singing is not something you can put a finger on, to me best singers are those who best translate the emotion and present the lyrics can make you cry with one song and make you dance with the next one.

Juliana Lauren has had 2, not three number ones, but yes, she is still more successful than Haley. But again, it depends on what genre of music you listen to. Lauren’s getting all these new awards, but Haley is getting all this publicity on tv from her commercial. I enjoyed Haley more when it was on, but I love Lauren much more now. Both girls were very good on this, and I couldn't always tell which voice was which although I did catch some very distinctive Haley moments. I'm not much of a Country fan, but I would love to hear Haley cut loose on this number in a solo performance. I felt she was constrained by the fact that it was a duet. In a solo thon constraint wouldn't be there, and you can imagine her really shredding it. I've always reckoned that the Country singers are a hell of a lucky that she has stayed out of that field. If she went there, her voice would become THE Country voice.

Great job. Duets are rarely good on this show. Lauren did a great job,and kudos to Haley for doing so well outside her genre. Reminds me of the cross genre camaraderie on SYTYCD.
Overall a pretty good performance by both of them, but Haley is the better of the two here because she is just overall the more relaxed of the two, she is smiling, and just having a good time. Plus she also moves far better and is just overall more smoother in her performance. Lauren did okay too, but she does appear to be pretty stiff, she seldom smiles, and probably was a bit intimidated somewhat by having to do a duet on the stage with Haley, which she knew was the better of the two of them. Lauren sang with more volume but she added nothing to the vocal, while Haley sang her vocal with far more personality. Thus, I would have to crown Haley the winner of this duet, although Lauren did a fairly good job too.
Haley made it to 3rd in a last ditch effort for real talent to make it into the finale. But alas we could not overcome the tidal wave of country crazies. Only reason Scotty and Lauren made it as far as they did is because of their authentic hick accent and chosen genre. If Lauren had performed like this during one of her solos I wouldn't begrudge her as much, but she didn't. 25 million votes is nothing to sneeze at and would have gotten anyone into the finale in any other year.
The last great American Idol season. All of the top three were good enough to have won. Personally, I still only listen to Haley and Lauren. Scotty has plenty of radio hits, I'm just not a fan of his.

They were both really good....but the true travesty of THAT season was Pia Toscano being eliminated NINTH!!! That was one of the worst eliminations in idol history!!! The girl was the top vote getter 3 weeks in a row ...then they tell her to sing uptempo....she does....sing it damn well....but they still criticize her....and she gets eliminated....plus they couldn't use the save because they foolishly used it 2 weeks prior on Casey (even tho he deserved to be eliminated) because they wanted to add an 11th person for the tour (it's for the top ten). Pia was actually the best singer and she didn't even crack the top FIVE!!! I liked Scotty....but he should NOT have won!!! He was by far the least versatile country singer ever in that show!! He can damn sure sing country but when it was another genre he made EVERYTHING country....Carrie underwood could sing anything....even Lauren could sing other genres....They got on Pia for not being versatile but not with Scotty?? 🤨🤔
Haley brings out the best in others in a duet...a perfect example here with Lauren. Casey and Tony Bennett are two other examples. She somehow manages to elevate their game...why she is destined for greatness.
This was the first time I was seriously impressed with Lauren's vocals. I'm a huge Haley fan, but Lauren was stronger on this song, I thought. And for all you prudes who can't handle Haley's dance moves (please, get real - having a cardiac over this?), I assume you changed channels for half of the guest performances on AI. But yeah, once again Haley shows she can do just about anything. Lauren has a good set of pipes, if only she had showed more variety it would have been cool.

Easy...she pretended that her and Scotty were a hot thing, so that some of those young adolescent females that were voting Scotty first by a mile every week would vote for her if she could dupe enough of them to start shipping her and Scotty together. It worked, they did, and she got voted into the final barely beating Haley by only a few votes. Nonetheless, Haley was by far the best contestant overall that season, but with adolescent females voting as a voting bloc and deciding who the winners were, there was no way anyone else other than Scotty would have won. In other words, through the first four rounds, it was a relatively fair talent contest, after round four though the rest of the way it was a popularity contest and Scotty ran away with it. Yeah those young female adolescent voters controlling the winners each and every year helped to destroy the show. Had Idol came up with a better or fairer voting system, it may have kept the viewers more interested in the show for longer. But once the voters grew frustrated with the way winners were decided, a lot of them split. For instance, had adult voters decided the winners, Haley would have won it running away. Oh well, that was five years ago. Today Haley is in the recording studio recording her next album to be released sometimes probably in late spring or early summer via her new major record label she signed with earlier this year. Bravo Haley!!!

In fact, season 9's Crystal Bowersox, season 10's Haley Reinhart, season 11's Jessica Sanchez, and season 15's La'Porsha Renae should all get together and file a lawsuit against American Idol to get what rightfully belongs to them, and their lost wages and income resulting since their respective seasons. As American Idol had a fiduciary responsibility to protect the integrity of their own singing contest, but miserably failed to do so. Hence, since American Idol miserably failed to ensure the integrity of their own singing contest, per their fiduciary responsibility to do so, those four singers' losses are American Idol's fault and therefore American Idol should be held responsible to compensate those real winners of the show for their losses.

Funny thing is this probably Lauren's best vocals. It seems Haley sparked something in her. Season 10 overall had by far the best talent top to bottom. Although I love Lauren and Scotty, Haley should have won. She was and is the best singer hands down. The teeny boppers screwed it up.

I'm inclined to say, "Then you're old enough to know better," but I'd better not! For sheer talent and overall brilliance, nobody came near Haley. Maybe her very versatility counted against her. Randy was certainly ramming it home that she didn't know what kind of singer she really was.
To many of us she was a brilliant singer who could, and did sing almost anything. And why not? She proved she could sing the sort of thing that Lauren and Scottty were doing. She duetted with Lauren, sharing honours on a Country song; she sang Blue brilliantly, another Country song. Then there was House of the Rising Sun, claimed as a Country covered a lot by Country singers. She also did a big ballad, I Who Have Nothing.
Then there are the things that Lauren and Scotty could never have tackled. There were her Rock numbers like Hold Me, Benny and the Jets, and What Is And What Should Never Be. And of course thon brilliant Jazz duet of Moanin' with Casey. All these songs were way beyond Scotty and Lauren, good voices though they had. But, it was so sweet how Scotty and Lauren went to classes together and were made for one another and there was the romance building up there. And they had all those interviews so we could get to know what sweet people they were and what their background was.
Haley had been brought up on a very varied musical diet by a very musical family. Not that Idol told us anything about her. They didna even interview her as they did so many of the others. - and especially Scotty and Lauren. Who knew her parents had a mainly Rock band covering a lot of Classic Rock; she'd studied Jazz, or her father played Jazz as well as Rock? But Idol made sure we knew all about Lauren and Scotty.
The dice were definitely loaded against Haley.
Haley will never be commercially as viable. I should have known better? really? that is pretty childish to even make that remark. Lauren has a great voice. You did not like her as much for whatever reason. That is fine but try not to be a child about it. I grew up with a lot of different genres of music as well. it does not matter what her parents did or did not do>> She will never have the fame that Lauren will have . Period.

It was a joke, admittedly rather feeble. I canna see where I've been childish in what I said although you disliked my age comment. However, I notice you say that Haley will never be as commercially viable You might be right about that, but commercial success often seems to have little to do with overall singing ability and talent. Furthermore, Haley might just be trying to avoid the strings attached to signing up to a major label. I don't know.
I actually liked Lauren, and wish her well. She has a good voice that has become better still. I just think Haley is a better singer overall who is unique in what she does with her voice tonally and texture wise. She is almost instantly recognisable. Perhaps I've not listened to enough Country or Lauren herself, but her voice although very good does seem rather generic Country to me.

I was listening to Miranda Lambert's version yesterday, and I was struck by the fact that she sings the melody exactly the same all the way through. In the duet here you can hear Haley slurring and sliding around the melody, particularly going up above the basic melody, and at times swooping and slurring down low, that extra something that Haley so frequently adds that even JLo had commented on it before the Last 5 when Idol was getting worried that Haley might just beat their chosen couple that JLo had to weigh in with Randy to give criticisms she rarely gave to others.

haley is crazy good!! its not the best singer that wins in these shows its a singer who gets most votes that wins. and its hard to say whats best, singing is not something you can put a finger on, to me best singers are those who best translate the emotion and present the lyrics can make you cry with one song and make you dance with the next one.

It's strange that Lauren had nothing but praise for Haley as being hugely supportive and helpful to Lauren who was four years younger than Haley. She further complained in interview about how badly Haley was being treated by Jlo and Randy, and acknowledged Haley as being the best singer there. But of course, Lauren never had the benefit of watching a few minutes of Haley on TV for a few weeks like you did so she couldna know her as well as you do! She just happened to live with her for months, even sharing rooms with her.
Prefer Lauren's singing, okay, but don't show such pathetic idiocy as making character judgements on such scanty evidence as you have, a few minutes a week on American Idol! You'll have us thinking that your pseudonym is appropriate in the worst possible way.

Haley is my favorate..shes from my hometown, shes got the looks, the talent, the growl, and shes had my vote for the whole season...but I have to say....Lauren did amazing here and if this ONE song was a THE whole competion...lauren would have won.

Juliana Lauren has had 2, not three number ones, but yes, she is still more successful than Haley. But again, it depends on what genre of music you listen to. Lauren’s getting all these new awards, but Haley is getting all this publicity on tv from her commercial. I enjoyed Haley more when it was on, but I love Lauren much more now. It’s just opinions over time. They both have done very well though.

If that would have been the final two, which was impossible thanks to the young teenage girls who controlled who the winner would be, but nevertheless had Haley and Lauren competed in the finals, Haley would have utterly destroyed her.
Both girls were very good on this, and I couldn't always tell which voice was which although I did catch some very distinctive Haley moments. I'm not much of a Country fan, but I would love to hear Haley cut loose on this number in a solo performance. I felt she was constrained by the fact that it was a duet. In a solo thon constraint wouldn't be there, and you can imagine her really shredding it. I've always reckoned that the Country singers are a hell of a lucky that she has stayed out of that field. If she went there, her voice would become THE Country voice.
Haley's cousin claimed years ago that at 15 years of age Haley impressed someone in Nashville, but he had a new girl he wanted to give a chance first. The new girl was Taylor Swift. Her cousin later denied stating this.

I wonder what the truth actually is. I'm personally glad Haley never got sooked into the Country field. She's have had a hell of a job to spread her wings in other fields if they'd had their hooks into her. As I said, the Country singers are lucky - though it would be interesting to see her do a few Country numbers that had a bit of go to them, this one for instance.

" Her voice is irritating for me" is very subjective thing...we have different preferences you know. you can't compare a piano to a violin

Haley sounds like she cant breath, or like shes holding her breath and trying to sing. Lauren rocked it, as usual.
wow Haley can do Alannis, Zep, and country! She could probably sell rap too! She got skilllllllzzzzz.
Overall a pretty good performance by both of them, but Haley is the better of the two here because she is just overall the more relaxed of the two, she is smiling, and just having a good time. Plus she also moves far better and is just overall more smoother in her performance.
Lauren did okay too, but she does appear to be pretty stiff, she seldom smiles, and probably was a bit intimidated somewhat by having to do a duet on the stage with Haley, which she knew was the better of the two of them.
Lauren sang with more volume but she added nothing to the vocal, while Haley sang her vocal with far more personality. Thus, I would have to crown Haley the winner of this duet, although Lauren did a fairly good job too.

Haley made it to 3rd in a last ditch effort for real talent to make it into the finale. But alas we could not overcome the tidal wave of country crazies. Only reason Scotty and Lauren made it as far as they did is because of their authentic hick accent and chosen genre. If Lauren had performed like this during one of her solos I wouldn't begrudge her as much, but she didn't. 25 million votes is nothing to sneeze at and would have gotten anyone into the finale in any other year.

The last great American Idol season. All of the top three were good enough to have won. Personally, I still only listen to Haley and Lauren. Scotty has plenty of radio hits, I'm just not a fan of his.
I swear, it SOOOOOOO should have come down to these two. Lauren still should have been the runner-up, but HALEY should have been the title, NOT Scotty. Even though I love Haley, I was rooting for Scotty in the finale. I still think Haley should have won.

They were both really good....but the true travesty of THAT season was Pia Toscano being eliminated NINTH!!! That was one of the worst eliminations in idol history!!! The girl was the top vote getter 3 weeks in a row ...then they tell her to sing uptempo....she does....sing it damn well....but they still criticize her....and she gets eliminated....plus they couldn't use the save because they foolishly used it 2 weeks prior on Casey (even tho he deserved to be eliminated) because they wanted to add an 11th person for the tour (it's for the top ten). Pia was actually the best singer and she didn't even crack the top FIVE!!! I liked Scotty....but he should NOT have won!!! He was by far the least versatile country singer ever in that show!! He can damn sure sing country but when it was another genre he made EVERYTHING country....Carrie underwood could sing anything....even Lauren could sing other genres....They got on Pia for not being versatile but not with Scotty?? 🤨🤔

This was the first time I was seriously impressed with Lauren's vocals. I'm a huge Haley fan, but Lauren was stronger on this song, I thought. And for all you prudes who can't handle Haley's dance moves (please, get real - having a cardiac over this?), I assume you changed channels for half of the guest performances on AI. But yeah, once again Haley shows she can do just about anything. Lauren has a good set of pipes, if only she had showed more variety it would have been cool.

Easy...she pretended that her and Scotty were a hot thing, so that some of those young adolescent females that were voting Scotty first by a mile every week would vote for her if she could dupe enough of them to start shipping her and Scotty together. It worked, they did, and she got voted into the final barely beating Haley by only a few votes.
Nonetheless, Haley was by far the best contestant overall that season, but with adolescent females voting as a voting bloc and deciding who the winners were, there was no way anyone else other than Scotty would have won.
In other words, through the first four rounds, it was a relatively fair talent contest, after round four though the rest of the way it was a popularity contest and Scotty ran away with it.
Yeah those young female adolescent voters controlling the winners each and every year helped to destroy the show. Had Idol came up with a better or fairer voting system, it may have kept the viewers more interested in the show for longer. But once the voters grew frustrated with the way winners were decided, a lot of them split.
For instance, had adult voters decided the winners, Haley would have won it running away.
Oh well, that was five years ago. Today Haley is in the recording studio recording her next album to be released sometimes probably in late spring or early summer via her new major record label she signed with earlier this year. Bravo Haley!!!

No he wasn't the true winner. He won only because he was a young male and Lauren finished second only because the young teenage girls that always decided the winners of Idol were shipping Lauren and Scotty together as a couple because they were both country and because Lauren was flirting big time with Scotty.
Nonetheless, since American Idol failed to protect the integrity of their singing contest even though they had a fiduciary responsibility to do so, Scotty won and Lauren finished second. Although Haley Reinhart was easily the true winner of the show that season.
Not to mention as well, that Scotty was 1 of the last 8 winners of American Idol that were all males in the last 9 seasons of American Idol that won the show, with the lone exception being the female that finally won in season 12, but only after the American Idol producers had rigged the show so only a female could win in season 12. Otherwise, it would have been a young male winning again. The truth is neither Haley nor Lauren ever had a chance to win the show.
In fact, season 9's Crystal Bowersox, season 10's Haley Reinhart, season 11's Jessica Sanchez, and season 15's La'Porsha Renae should all get together and file a lawsuit against American Idol to get what rightfully belongs to them, and their lost wages and income resulting since their respective seasons. As American Idol had a fiduciary responsibility to protect the integrity of their own singing contest, but miserably failed to do so.
Hence, since American Idol miserably failed to ensure the integrity of their own singing contest, per their fiduciary responsibility to do so, those four singers' losses are American Idol's fault and therefore American Idol should be held responsible to compensate those real winners of the show for their losses.

@AdriGoddess True. Lauren generally brings nothing new to her songs, and in the long run that may be her downfall . If she doesn't grow as an artist, she will be go nowhere really. Funny thing is this probably Lauren's best vocals. It seems Haley sparked something in her. But the reason I think Haley will grow far more than Lauren or Scotty and end up much bigger in the end is that Haley alwas bring something so unique to her songs. That is the sign of a great artist!
Haley is way better than Lauren. I understand that the teens love love stories and they stan Lauren and Scotty but the truth is, that Haley was the best singer of the whole show. Scotty was also really talented but Haley was a bit professional.
