- "What Is and What Should Never Be" was Haley's song choice. (1st of 3 for each contestant). Her Dad, Harry, accompanied Haley on stage, playing lead guitar. As she was returning to the stage (after circling the judges table), Haley tripped up the steps, and fell down. When asked by Ryan Seacrest, all the judges said that Haley won round 1 "hands down".
It's a song by English rock band Led Zeppelin on their 1969 album Led Zeppelin II. It was written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. This was one of the first songs on which Page used his soon-to-become trademark Gibson Les Paul for recording. This was also one of the first songs recorded by the band for which Robert Plant received writing credit. According to rock journalist Stephen Davis, the author of the Led Zeppelin biography Hammer of the Gods: The Led Zeppelin Saga, the lyrics for this song reflect a romance Plant had with his wife's younger sister.
"What Is and What Should Never Be" was performed live at Led Zeppelin concerts between 1969 and 1972. A live version taken from a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 1970 can be seen on the Led Zeppelin DVD.

This to me is the most underrated Haley performance. I mean fuck, who the hell can go out there and slay ZEPPELIN??? This is one of the best of all time to me.

Haley left such an impact on this season, if not, this whole show. She is a true underdog. She started off as the bottom 3 of the top 13 and earned her way to the TOP 3 of the top 13. No one like her has ever been on Idol. Her face is so unique and special. We can find another Lauren. We can find another Scotty. But finding another Haley is one in a million.
She's one of the best American Idol contestants, she sang the best songs and has the best voice
There are very few Idol Contestants that could recover that perfectly from a fall like that. She is a true superstar in the making!
Love that they let her dad play lead guitar on this, slaying it as always.

A truly unique talent and she's that way because of her dad who was playing lead in that performance. She's been performing with her family her entire life and that's the reason she's so damn good. I watch her stuff all the time and I can't wait to get to see her when she comes to NY or Long Island !!! And I hope Caseys there with her !!!

This performance still brings me to tears. And her mother's proud and moved reaction at the end... priceless! What a gift this young lady has.
Her voice is different from many of the other generic "spectacular" voices on AI that people get al all excited about.

I thinkk that the judges could not categorize into spot A or spot B and have been a little blown by all that Haley is and does. Go girl.
For me, the best part of this performance was Haley’s Dad on the guitar, and the riffs. Not sure how she managed to swing getting her Dad to play on stage with her, and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but he was really good!!

Haley has this very unique quality to either take a song that seemed somewhat unremarkable before or to suddenly make an old classic suddenly come alive and modern. You completely forget what the old song was like, as hers now becomes the new standard. Everything she sings becomes gold. She is not merely a singer, but a true artist . She is probably the most talented modern singer of this decade. If promoted correctly she will be number one!

Can not believe how good this girl is. I can't think of one other current artist that has her unique sound and talent. If she has sang this on the voice, all of the chairs would have swung around after the first five notes. On the Voice, she would have killed every other singer and won in a landslide
If you notice the moment when she trips is when she looks up at her dad as she is ad-libbing the lyric "DADDY you will be mine" and I believe the glance for appreciation from her dad is what made her trip... not the pointy heel of the shoe.
this girl should of won she was truely the best of the season, amazes me how she takes all the real music and nails it. She can do Zepplin, Stevie Nicks, waiting some more, sure don't hear from the 2nd runner up.

Haley was so pretty when she was young
This was her best performance last night by far ! She chose very well for herself and her dad can really play that guitar !~I think the judges sabotaged her with the Alanis Morissette song but that 's for another video comment . This one was awesome ~!

Pity about the fall. She recovered so well but the judges were sidetracked into talking about it instead of her actual performance. However, that seemed to be par for the course. It was a crazy brilliant performance, one of several of hers that none of the others could equal.

Ya know, I dont know about the more famous remark. The country genre, fans are huge and loyal. Just look at record sales in the genre. Thing I love about Haley is she can sing rock, jazz, country, etc.... I'd like to see Scotty and Lauren, whom boht I adore, try and sing Zeppelin, Morrisette, Jazz, Joplin, etc... Haley is by far more DIVERSE. As far as talent, they are all very talented. Now check out xfactor, Rochelle, Clocks, and just fall in love.
