Not sure about other folks, but I definitely hear both minor and major differences in the sound. I also have very sensitive hearing, so that could be to blame lol. In any case, this is a pretty cool piece of studio gear. I certainly don't have the kind of money to afford this, so I make do with some plugins depending on if it sounds appropriate. It might be too much to run each track through it, so I would definitely use this as a mastering tool. Fun video!
Hey guys! I would like to add some hardware to my new studio and am currently looking for really useful extensions and sound improvers for my plugins. Also being able to get away from the screen sometimes. I currently have a Cranborne 500 Adat rack with Carnaby Harmonic EQ, SSL Violet EQ and SPl Kultube. But I'm not entirely convinced yet and I still can replace everything relatively well with plugins. Your experiences would certainly be very helpful.
I want to say that Kobalt excited the top end and gave a bigger bottom. Its sound seemed more solid, yet clear and separated, so I'm assuming that's one way it does it. Nickel dulled the sound, dampened some highs. I'd have to watch again to focus on Eisen. On this video's tonal and mastered material, which isn't excessively bright, Kobalt worked best IMO. On very bright modern style recordings, I might prefer a different setting. (This is all based on the video... I don't have one)

In the example with the full mix running through it you are shaving off the transients so much that the drums loses its bite.

I guess it depends on your preferred workflow more than anything.

you should try the zulu, if you can get your hands on one.
Think I would prefer a Fatso for tape like transient smearing
