I quit alcohol and weed 4 days ago, been drinking 6-12 beers a day and toking all day for 20 plus years. I am so thirsty, it's like nothing I drink with quench my thirst. I forgot what sober feels like, hugging my kids feels different, it's like I can see them clearly. Thank you for the info Dr. Berg, wish us all luck.
I quit drinking 9 years ago, and it's one of the best gifts I've ever given myself. I am so much healthier, and look and feel so much better. Quitting drinking was a real life changer for me. And after I made it past the first few months, I've never missed it or craved it at all. I highly recommend it.
Good for you! You are an inspiration. I’m 50 and have been drinking for the better part of 30 years. The longest I’ve gone without is two months, but then got pulled back in. I’m trying again now, hopefully for good this time. I’m only on day 8, though, but I’m really motivated and hope I can keep reminding myself the myriad reasons why I want to rid myself of this poison once and for all.
@@stephenmahlstedt7276 how is it going? I know it can be so hard to stop. My Dad struggled his entire life. I decided a few years back to stop myself. Wishing you success!!!
Im giving upon alcohol from today . Although I only use to drink beers but I've realised that not only it hits hard on pocket but it makes you take foolish decision . Alcohol is anti productivity and anti inner peace and happiness. I wish whoever reads this, gets inspiration and power to continue his sobriety.
Hello everyone. I haven’t watched this video (yet) because I don’t drink, but I’ll share a story with you that may help you if you’re watching this while contemplating your drinking. I’ll give you the shortened version for the TL;DR crew. I was born in the 70s and both parents were partiers/drinkers and occasional drug users (mostly psychedelics). As I grew, my parents sunk deeper into alcoholism, my father being the more functional of the two as he had a career while my mother was a stay-at-home. By the early 90s, drinking had done enough damage to her that she was no longer functional on any level without her booze. She drank herself to death by 1998 after everyone had moved out of the home for self-preservation as the living environment was so toxic. My father continued his drinking and, while mentally and emotionally crippled, has somehow managed to stay alive, despite countless hospital stays, several of them spent in ICU. He still drinks to this day and even while inebriated, claims he’s given it up aside from “a couple of beers”. Our family has been destroyed by the environment we were raised in. I rarely speak to either of my sisters. My sisters haven’t spoken to one another since my mother’s funeral. All three of us have mental stability issues and addictive personalities. I started taking drugs at 14 years old and through the years, have taken almost every street drug short of crack and heroin. Luckily managed to find my way out of substances and am trying to put what pieces of my life that are still salvageable back together. The moral of the story is, if you’re reading this contemplating your own drinking, this will give you a general idea of what the future holds for you and possibly the generation(s) of your bloodline that will follow if you continue choose booze. I hope you’re able to find your way out of the maze. Love, Tom
Tom, congratulations on telling the truth 😢 destruction it does to everyone and anything 😢😢 take care. I just ordered the Kudzu Vegavero. 3 months worth. 😊take care. Sorry this happened to you and you're family
After drinking heavily for the last 30 to 40 years I finally gave it up completely 2 weeks ago. Besides rotting your iiver alcohol is very hard on the heart. I have some serious heart issues now and can no longer afford to drink. I am moving in with my son and his wife, and neither of them drink alcohol. I feel like I can finally beat it.
Have you tried Kava root tea? It's a game changer for drinkers and former drinkers. Anyone really. I'd definitely look into it. Check out JoeyTalks channel here about it.
I just stopped drinking today, not sure if can actually do it though. I lost a good amount of weight doing keto and intermittent fasting even though I drank alcohol throughout. I had Vodka 40 proof with soda water, lime juice and low sugar cranberry which actually had erythritol or whatever its called. About 3 of those a day. I just want to be healthy now I'm 51. Gave up smoking but I vape, lost weight, now I want to tackle my drinking and eventually get off the vape Edit: Thanks everyone who replied to my comment it touched my heart to know people I've never met took the time to say kind and helpful words ❣
"[Alcohol] is a foul-tasting, highly addictive poisonous drug, that is produced from decaying vegetable matter and provides no advantages whatsoever." - Allen Carr
Keeping my fingers crossed. Try with highly sparkling mineral water, everytime i wanted to get booze i drank even half of liter mixed with one whole lemon. It was sour as hell, but my belly was full and helped me to forget what i was after :)
I’m 70 years old and I can’t tell you how many people I’ve known who’s lives were ruined by alcohol. Many are dead. For me, I quit for good 3 years ago. It was not easy. I wished so many times I could have a drink or two and be content. I was certainly a lot of fun when I did drink. I’m finally no longer missing drinking. I was recently with a group of people who were drinking a lot and I had no desire.
After I quit for good 8 years ago I would sometimes go to a bar to socialize. I could sit there and watch as each individual transformed. They all do, don't kid yourselves. And you could see the entire room change with time. Then it becomes people talking louder because everyone is trying to talk louder... lol It got old quick. My tolerance for people under the influence of alcohol has reached an all time low. I'm bored with the whole scene.

Great advice for those with a drinking problem. Reading the comments makes me realize just how rampant alcoholism is. It's encouraging to read the messages filled with hope for recovery. I have a beer most nights and maybe a single bourbon w/ ice, but never more. Some nights I don't drink anything. Alcoholism runs on both sides of my family so I've been very aware of my intake for many years now. Was in the music business for over a decade and knew many addicts, and that always made me very cognizant of my own limitations.
Wishing all of you who are considering abstaining from alcohol strength and courage! I am just over 3 weeks and feeling good now, although it was a little rough for a couple of weeks. Not with cravings, more so with lethargy. To you youngsters out there - be very wary of alcohol as you get older. It sneaks up on you to the point you aren’t really aware of your intake. BE WARY OF ALCOHOL!!!
@@gelov3289 I was going for about 1-2 beers a day. And sometimes more... I have really bad hangovers for last 15 years, which made me think of quitting altogether. Been off for 18 days now, drinking only non-alcohol beer.
I stopped drinking one year ago on June 7 - I’m almost there - to one year sober! I was definitely consuming more than one should and I have to say that Dr. Bergs videos definitely contributed to me wanting to protect my Liver more! So many people don’t know how sick their liver can get and they won’t even have many clues until it’s too late!
I can always stop for a couple weeks or even months but it useless when you are not happy or have good friends or family. When alcohol is your only remedy and you have zero people supporting you when things gets really difficult it always comes back. It feels so good to be able to relax, feel good about things and yourself. So good
I stopped drinking 4 months ago, I am in recovery and though I have no cravings I will give this a try. I have my life back, alcohol took me over, dropped weight, in shape, keto and fasting is working great for me. Thanks so much Dr. Berg, you are a true lifesaver, God bless you.
Coach the word recovery is an AA word , your a normal person and now u quit , so not in recovery , u can do anything you want to do now without the addiction part
Dr. Berg thank you for doing this video. I’ve been a heavy drinker for 5 yrs; about 10 shots a day, everyday. After seeing this, ordered Kudzu and began taking it. Haven’t drank in 3 days and counting. You are a blessing 🙏
During the lockdown, alcohol was a problem for me. I recently stopped drinking due to my trainer's encouragement. I feel better, I've lost weight, my joints don't hurt and I really don't miss it. Great video, great comments from viewers 👏 👍 😀
I was an alkie for over 40 years, but I've been sober for 10 years, 9 months & 23 days. A true alkie always remembers his last day. (Oct 05, 2011), because when you quit for good, you count the days, then weeks, then months etc. It's not easy at first, and it takes a long time before you don't want a drink anymore, but it can be done. I read a good book called "The power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg which helped me understand the process of addiction, and the steps one can take to change. Highly recommended.
I would feel guilty even after drinking a small amount because deep down I knew it was no good for me especially with alcohol addiction running rampant through members of my family taking two lives. So I was very grateful when I stared to get a headache from even small amounts of alcohol. It was enough of an annoyance to help me finally put alcohol down.
Thank you Dr. Berg for this info. I will pass it on. I stopped drinking alcohol 8 months ago after being diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. I'm doing great without it, but would like others to stop too.
After 35 years of battling alcohol consumption, I walked into an AA meeting two years ago and I have been alcohol free and happily liberated ever since. I have been able to avoid it all together and I don't miss it. AA performed a miracle for me.
I haven’t drank in 1.5 weeks and am hoping to go an entire month. I’ve always liked drinking and had a broken heart which started a horrible circle of drinking. I’m doing KETO and OMAD for 1 month and have been feeling AMAZING! Now just have to be done with alcohol. Thanks for this video!!!
I saw your video about liver disease and I have stopped drinking because of it, thank you! I started the keto diet and intermittent fasting and this video is such a sign to keep it up!
My heavy intake of alcohol was strongly connected to my depression and it just ruined me completely. I sought out help one day after having a big and tearful breakdown earlier in the week, and that was honestly the best choice I've ever done in my life. One of the main reasons I stopped drinking was because my doctor told me that my blood samples showed early signs of liver failure. After that message along with psychologist help, my alcohol cravings just went from 100 to 0. I even stopped eating bad food with lots of sugar. No energy drinks either that was my daily routine. Only healthy food with lots of water. I watched your videos as well and I honestly feel so much better now. It's crazy how much have changed and I lose weight in the same process! Life really feels good now! And thank you so much for sharing your wisdom to us. It's truly an amazing gift!
@@antoniot7928 Well, when it was getting really serious... I guess 5 weeks. It sorta just happened without me realising. I was drinking lots of whiskey, vodka, and beer
@@zeriolinx5755 Wow, I expected it to take a lot longer to develop liver issues. I guess it also depends on how much it was everyday. I'm glad you are healthier now. I am trying to stay as far from alcohol as possible. I think my liver is okay right now, but I would rather stop while I'm ahead.
@@antoniot7928 I got drunk almost every day. It was mostly 40% liqour too but a lot of beer the other times. Also it might be in my genes that I suffer easily but Im not sure. It's been ingrained in this culture that alcohol can be consumed without a negative effect. Thanks, Dr. Berg, for continually highlighting its negative effects.
my brother who is an MD leaning towards holistic says that life span on an individual will be generally the same no matter what the input is. It's just the quality of life and reason for death changes. But how many more 'studies' do we have to endure that tells us that alcohol (wine) and caffeine (coffee) are 'heart-healthy'? There may be a blood thinning and an antioxiding effect. But the blood does not need to be thinned if the arteries and veins are properly maintained. And the damage that these drugs do to the rest of the body far outweighs the antioxidant effect.
Wow, I'm 5 weeks into my sobriety after 37 years of drinking since the age of 9 years old. I'm suffering from 2 severe autoimmune disorders that have ravaged my body .my spine has been herniated in over 10 of my levels I'm scheduled to have my second cervical fusions at this relatively young age of 55, I'm almost completely homebound. But I'm not giving up!! THANK YOU for your dedication to the real practice of Health Care!!! 👍

But I walk the perimeter of my background with my physical Therapist as often as possible!! I appreciate the suggestion
I quit drinking almost 2 years ago. Definitely one of the better decisions I've made! Only bizarre thing was, for quite a few months there, my bloodwork got ironically worse when it came to cholesterol(HDL especially plummeted), and I had less energy at the gym because I guess my body had become so used to using it for my carbs. After about a year though my bloodwork started coming back better and my body fully adapted and I'd never go back to drinking again... I enjoy remembering all my nights!
This is AWESOME!!! I have been searching for natural things to assist my loved ones who enjoy alcohol too much! I DO notice, sugar addiction plays into it as well! Speaking of that....I REALLY want to loose weight and STOP sugar cravings! I keep telling myself at 54 I CAN loose weight.
I’m 60 and lost over 30. You can lose. Just forget what happened yesterday and move on today. Meaning if you slip yesterday don’t make that a reason to just give up. Just realize we slip, but we can start again. You’ll feel so much better for it.
Sugar is hard to quit. It took me 6 months of actively trying. I was addicted to caffeinated soft drinks for years. I started by switching to caffeine in pill form, and drinking water with added sugar. Graduallly adding less and less sugar. Now soft drinks taste disgusting like strange chemicals, and I don't drink anything with added sugar.
I consider myself very fortunate for losing all interest in consuming alcohol. I also consider myself fortunate that I never had a problem or an addiction to it. I stopped consuming alcohol a few years ago because of the way it made me feel, especially the day after, and that was after consuming just one or two drinks. It started to make me feel nauseous and would give me an instant headache, which I now consider a blessing in disguise. I don't miss it at all anymore.
I quit drinking New Years Day. I had no idea that it was causing menopause symptoms to explode! Wowzers! I'm still experiencing all the symptoms...but they are greatly reduced!
What also helps is scheduling an activity in the evening - then you tell yourself "I don't want to drink before I do___(fill in the blank)." Then, do something in the evening, anything, besides things that are compatible with drinking. At the minimum, take a walk. I schedule some woodworking or shop work during the evenings, and I know I don't want to drink alcohol before that. On other evenings, I do a light workout or go for a long walk.
I did so well with intermittent fasting and sometimes keto, since discovering dr. Berg's channel in January of this year. Quit alcohol for a while (a mere month) but the habit came back and I need to tackle this. I'm from Belgium and I like our beers, it's so normal here and sometimes even considered 'weird' when you don't drink at certain occasions.
I have just ordered a box of kudzu root tablets, desperately wanting to stop alcohol consumption. I will update this in a week or two and il let you no how I get on. Thanks doc, you may just be saving lives ❤
I had forgotten about Kudzu. I took it many years ago and remember the first time it worked for me was at a restaurant. Had a glass of wine before the meal, and when the meal arrived, the waitress asked me if I wanted another glass of wine. I was surprised that I didn’t want my usual second glass! Kudzu really worked for me!
Dr berg I have followed you for many years and you was my first go to on my journey for optimal health. At that time in my life I had beaten alcohol and was happy living the low carb lifestyle and had experienced one of that happiest times of my life. Everything changed and turning to drink was my easy way out of extreme anxiety with everything that was going on in my life at that time. A few years later and many days binging I have finally weened myself off of alcohol and junk food but this is early days yet. Thank you Dr Berg. Eternally grateful for all that you do x
I had several traumatic situations in a row and noticed if I started thinking about it, I would find myself binge drinking and after watching this, it’s completely completely helping - I am so grateful because I was really struggling.. this plus therapy gives me so much hope for healing- thank you ❤️
I gave up alcohol temporarily to beat diabetes, along with fasting and keto. That was 3 1/2 years ago. I don't miss it except for the occasional glass of wine with dinner I still don't have. Last New Year's Eve I decided to get some hard seltzers. I found out I didn't miss it at all, and while I won't say "never," I'm really not that interested. I may enjoy some wine with dinner sometimes, but I still have not.
I'm in the same boat. I stopped having my occasional beer when I was diagnosed with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and at the same time transitioned to a keto diet. I haven't had a drink in almost 3 years and would just rather be healthy than do something that I know can only be harmful to me.
diabetes type 2 is adrenal problem and insuline resistance , get a adrenal formula . bovine glanulars for adrenals dr christopher master gland and for 1 month bitter melon
Dr. Berg is a highly intelligent man and I encourage everyone viewing this video to pay close attention . Also there are many of us whom refuse to realize we have a problem with alcohol and may be an alcoholic , thus ruining our mind, health and family relations and work ethics due to not being honest with yourself or other about having a drinking problem . Getting off alcohol is one thing . Staying off alcohol by yourself can prove to be extremely difficult . Attending AA can help .
I quit drinking back in 1995, I used to drink so much that my hangovers were so bad I would pray to God if I lived through it I will quit drinking. But of course I kept drinking. Done that day happened when I quit Cold turkey, For 3 days I did not eat or sleep, And finally on the 4th day I slept and when I woke up II felt amazing. I never really kept track of how long it had been since I stopped because I knew I wasn't going to drink again. I don't miss It, And really can't stand the smell or taste of Alcohol. If you quit and go back to drinking just start quitting again, No matter how long it takes you'll get there if you truly want.
I quit to try sobriety to improve health. I was a light drinker...not an alcoholic or heavy drinker. Quiting drinking, improving my diet, fasting and vitamin supplements made me feel better than I had felt in many years. It is easy to quit once you feel the benefits of sobriety. Even if you are a light drinker, it is affecting you more than you think. Quit for a few months and see how you feel.
Once I got into working out there was a natural inclination to start watching what I was eating. In time I lost any desire to drink alcohol without having to work at giving up. I realised how much damage it was doing if I had a drink. I would feel terrible all week and not able to work out properly.
Thank you, Dr. Berg. Would you please consider making a similar video for stopping the use of Percocet (or opioids in general), and saving our organs and our life?
Alcoholism is more a mental addiction than physical , and it’s main cause is boredom . i’ve noted that myself and fellow bachelors all have alcohol problems , because we have too much time on our hands whereas my friends with kids never get a spare minute to “hit the bottle” . “The devil makes work for idle hands” as the saying goes
Yes very true! I'm susceptible when I'm lonely. I'm not married. No kids. The loneliness is depressing, leading to more drinking. I have to find a way to get out of this hole!!!
Grows all over the place in Florida and can be considered a "noxious vegetation" which is humorous since it was initially brought in for cattle feed, if memory serves. Have to carefully identify the leaves though as it looks similar to other vines that are not healthy to the touch or for consumption. Thank you for this information!
After having alcoholism run in my family. I have been drinking close to 35 years. Last year drank mostly scotch whiskey 🥃. Although I was only drinking one day a week. The fact I had to tell myself I could only drink one day a week. Finally settled in my mind lol ya time to stop. I was also having severe hangovers for days on only a few drinks. And feeling generally down. As of January 1st 2022. I haven’t touched a drop. Been 5 months and 1 day. But I’m not counting:-). Just living without alcohol in my house. It doesn’t appeal to Me anymore. So thank goodness I don’t have cravings. I have hand on heart had about two instances where I thought perhaps a beer. But soon went for an ice cold glass of water. Job done. Sending strength and positive vibes to anyone trying to quit. YOU WILL DO IT AND FEEL WAY BETTER FOR IT :-) xx
Thanks doc. As of recently I just found out I was alcohol intolerant. 2 months ago. Hives. I been cutting down but should stop completely. There's no cure from what I've read other then stopping. It hasn't been easy..
Don,t you get any symptoms when you quit, i thought i,d be ok but went through hell for 3 days then my body went back to normal, then i had a drink again a week later and a couple of days later i was off again for about a day, now i drink a little every day just cos i dread the withdrawl, is there a way round the cravings?
I stopped drinking 4 years ago and it completely changed my life!! I love being sober and I've lost 10kg by following Dr Bergs advice. I weigh less that the ideal weight I was aiming for and I feel amazing!!! I even started a TH-cam channel and feel so much more comfortable in photos and video. Thank you Dr Berg!!! ❤❤

My shot of whiskey thins the blood and decreases chance of stroke. My glass of wine makes me happy and is tasty. My glass of German beer helps reduce chance of getting a kidney stone. Everything in moderation. If I believe this, then it’s true. As George Costanza would say…”It’s not a lie…if you believe it”. Thank you George…thank you.
Kudzu is great, also amino acid NAC and Valerian root help a lot with cravings. I went from drinking a bottle of wine daily to maybe having a couple of glasses of wine in the weekend. Also getting diagnosed and medicated for ADHD was instrumental.
The information i get from you regularly helped me alot. You dive so deep into researching the health benefits of the different elements of mother nature. As a recovering chronic alcoholic, through a 12 step program, I have lived life in abundance for more than 28 years. I now understand the importance of having a "design for living" that takes the focus OFF alcohol and puts the focus ON being the best person I can be. (Full disclosure...I'm far from perfect, and will never be considered for sainthood.) Along the way, I have become open to other avenues of sobriety or simply reducing the consumption of alcohol if that is a persons desire. Who am I to criticize, or stand in the way of someone trying to improve their lives. Until today, I had never heard of Kudzu, but glad I watched this. All the best...Mark

I was never a big drinker, I would only have a glass every so often with my meal ( about once or twice a month to be exact), but I never enjoyed the fuzzy numb feeling alcohol gave me. It made me feel weak and lethargic not to mention sleepy. So after my 23rd birthday I made a promise to not drink another drop of alcohol for at least a year and see how I feel afterwards. It's been five months and I feel much more healthy than before, my cognitive function has improved and the inflamation in my body has greatly reduced. Thanks Dr. Berg!!

I was recently with a group of people who were drinking a lot and I had no desire.
how much and how long did you drink ? any health issues ?
After I quit for good 8 years ago I would sometimes go to a bar to socialize. I could sit there and watch as each individual transformed. They all do, don't kid yourselves. And you could see the entire room change with time. Then it becomes people talking louder because everyone is trying to talk louder... lol
It got old quick.

My birthday ❤
I quit back then too but don’t recall the date
I would feel guilty even after drinking a small amount because deep down I knew it was no good for me especially with alcohol addiction running rampant through members of my family taking two lives. So I was very grateful when I stared to get a headache from even small amounts of alcohol. It was enough of an annoyance to help me finally put alcohol down.

Life really feels good now!

my brother who is an MD leaning towards holistic says that life span on an individual will be generally the same no matter what the input is.

Sugar is hard to quit. It took me 6 months of actively trying. I was addicted to caffeinated soft drinks for years. I started by switching to caffeine in pill form, and drinking water with added sugar. Graduallly adding less and less sugar.

Thank you for this! Very helpful.

Quiting drinking, improving my diet, fasting and vitamin supplements made me feel better than I had felt in many years. It is easy to quit once you feel the benefits of sobriety. if he does a video on smoking pot it ain't gonna be pretty.
Dr Berg to the rescue as always!
Perfect timing! With so many trips and plans for the summer with friends, this is just what I need to seal the deal on not being tempted by alcohol. Along with health benefits of course! Just ordered some Kudzu!
Thanks Dr. Berg!!
