I've packed a bunch into this one! Let me know in the comments what types of videos you'd value most from me. Do you prefer to see what my life looks like now or should I stick to business knowledge? Professional vibes only or personal life too?

Thanks for the video Erin! Something that I wonder about professionally is how to differentiate between growth opportunities and overload. You touched on becoming familiar with discomfort which I think is important, but how do you recognize the difference between being uncomfortable and becoming overwhelmed? An analogy I've used before is: "running a marathon is an excellent growth opportunity if you've trained for it, but being expected to run a marathon with no training is dangerous".
Thanks again and all the best!

You're welcome! And such a good analogy you've shared. I differentiate between discomfort and overwhelmed by this: Discomfort is the self-push when you know things might get a little hard or messy but it's the only way you can keep growing (and not stagnating). Overwhelm can come from multiple places - the inability to prioritize, the inability to have a hard conversation, the inability to say no, or even just being in a toxic environment where work just keeps getting piled on and you don't have the tools or skills to see your way out. In each of these overwhelm situations though, the key is to get uncomfortable (i.e., standing up and saying no to adding 'just one more thing to your plate'). In this last example, overwhelm comes before discomfort. You'll keep being overwhelmed until you do something uncomfortable. The first time you run it's uncomfortable because it's feels new and different. It's foolish to run a marathon as your first run. It's also foolish to keep doing the same thing day after day if you're overwhelmed. Too often though, we are too afraid of being uncomfortable so we sit in overwhelm. Long answer, but does this help?

@@erin-tran That makes sense! My takeaway is that it's key to understand your own growth path or actually have a growth plan in the first place - it lets you differentiate between discomfort and pain

Hi! I’m at a cross roads in my career and can’t tell if I just need to level up or transition out… I’m looking for an executive coach to help me. Do you mind making a video on when to know you need an executive coach and how to find one that will work best for you?

I can absolutely do that. I’ve had one for several years. Can you clarify for me - what do you mean by transitioning out?
