  • Since Project Rolling Thunder already has a performance suspension and go-fast goodies under the hood, it's time for a full exhaust install as well as some graphics on the outside. Then, it's on to the drag strip before the guys give you some tips on finding your next project.

      No tune or intercooler. I bet this superchanger kit only put out 5psi of boost.

    • @kdcustoms1272
      @kdcustoms1272 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's possible to gain 150+hp to the wheels without boost. The heads and intake are really restrictive on the magnums.

    255whp seems like nothing but that's just about what a stock Mustang gt made at the crank back then. Better tune, TB & kegger mods, shift kit, 4.10 gears with a locking diff and this truck would have been a problem.

    • @nathanlebaron5867
      @nathanlebaron5867 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I bet with a tune it would be like 350hp at least but they didn't even tune it

    • @RAMSRT500

      @@nathanlebaron5867 intercooler, bigger injectors/fuel pump and a aggressive tune and you could easily hit those numbers. That SC will probably be maxed out though.

    • @kdcustoms1272
      @kdcustoms1272 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nathanlebaron5867 I doubt it. Good heads, intake manifold, cam and tune would make it close to 350hp.

    Only thing that bothered me was the use of silicone in the exhaust. As silicone will burn when exposed to high temperatures. When this happens, it produces a gas that coats the surface of the O2 sensor and causes incorrect oxygen readings. This is called outgassing. The ECU, in turn, will adjust tuning based upon what the O2 sensor is telling it. Yeah science!

    I put 5.9 magnum in my d150 with a mild cam, dual plane intake to swap it to carb, and longtubes and it made 253 at the wheels. They had to be running very low boost.

    No tuner to adjust A/F or timing and they used the stock Y-pipe to cat (2.5”) that choked the engine big time. Should have been around 280-300 RWHP, which would 330-350 hp at the crank. Not bad numbers for all stock internals for late 90s, early 2000 truck. Add a mild cam, Edelbrock heads, 3” Y-pipe and M1 intake and your looking at 475 hp at the crank.

      Nah, dakota parts are still surprisingly cheap. I did a custom cat-back with a magnaflow muffler on my 03 3.9L, JBA headers, a factory cat replacement, and a turndown under the bed for less than $1500. Sounds mean, and accelerates a much smoother. $500-1000 wouldn't have been too hard in the early 2000s, and options would have probably been better.
