Thanks for the video as I just replaced the defrost heater in my 30+ year old GE refrigerator. If you disconnect the heater plug, you can check for continuity by using your ohms meter for a reading across the blue and pink long male ends of the unit. No continuity and a heater is burned out. Reading of 25-30 ohms and the defrost heaters are OK.

I was happy to see a video using my refrigerator, unfortunately the camera wasn't pointed inside the refrigerator to see what he was doing.

Enjoyed the video...extremely informative. My question is that I have an older GE side by side that had the original evaporator replaced years ago. The diagram for my model shows ( 2 ) defrost heaters...one at the bottom and one in the middle of the evaporator. Recently, my defrost heater went out...so, I am replacing it with a new one. Upon removing the evap. panel, I noticed that there is only (1) defrost heater. Apparently, the GE tech who replaced the original evap. must have replaced it with a different evap...hence, the solo defrost heater. This was done w/o my knowledge. After removing the defrost heater...I have only found this identifier G7102 marked on the end caps ( where the electrical wires plug in ). The defrost heater that I located is WR51X10055...it appears to match the one I removed, perfectly. Can you tell me if the G7102 identifier would match the WR51X10055 heater? Also, I noticed that the bracket on the old defrost heater seems to have needed to be bent in order to fit on the bottom of the evaporator...is this common practice, or did this technician pull a 'fast one' by using a different evap. and having bent the bracket of the defrost heater in able to have it attach? Any help is appreciated!

There are several scenarios that may have contributed to single heater currently in your refrigerator. What is your model number? You could contact GE and provide them with your model and serial number to determine if a retrofit has been made.

My refrigerator is 30 years old and I recently replaced the defroster heaters. Parts Select had some items I needed but no longer carried the heaters. I was about to order a new refrigerator, then I gave EBay a try, as luck would have it, they had the heaters for 35.00. This was 4 months ago, now running like new.
