The #1 all-time wins leader for the nation came into the area Friday night and got a heavy dose of their own medicine. The Valdosta Wildcats, of Georgia, came to northeast Ohio and faced the Massillon Tigers for the first time ever... and left for home with a sour taste in their mouths.

@@youngtrill9745 Massillon just beat Valdosta. They beat east st. Louis in 2018. McKinley which is their rival and my alma mater, beat Wayne from New Jersey in 2017. Massillon has beaten a few teams from New York and McKinley beat a few teams from Washington DC in the early 2000s.
Hard to schedule us because I imagine that Massillon never wants to travel anywhere so they never signed a home-and-away with anyone. And McKinley is locked in their schedule for seven weeks out of the 10

I live in Georgia( North Jersey native) and this game drew a lot of interest. A buddy of mine went to the game. He constantly criticizes football up North, but he came back impressed.
Although he believes the south may have a speed advantage. He said the intensity of the football played by Massillon really impressed him. Very interesting game between two prestigious programs…
Im sorry I just read this comment!! But glad to hear football up here impressed some folks down south! I am a McKinley grad, which we are rivals with this Massillon program. Started in 1894 and started pro football. They are 130 some of the hardest, most intense games you can imagine
What a facility and team. Alot of colleges would love to have that....If you get a football in your crib, count yourself lucky.

its crazy bcuz im from valdosta and just recently left newark ohio. back to valdosta after 3 years i was telling ppl up there about are highschool. never thought my small town would play a team in a state i moved to and Georgia played ohio...but yea the wildacts is one of 2 teams that make us #1 in the u.s. lowndes vikings.
In Texas that is barely average a facility. They spend so much on football stadiums here, it’s just amazing.

It holds over 16,000 but sometimes can be converted to hold almost 19,000. They also have a full indoor facility with a full football field. The biggest stadium in Texas holds slightly more than this stadium but not more than this team's rival's stadium. I think Texas stadiums are average, there's just a lot of them
Congrats on the win Massillon!!! Valdosta is known for great football but can't compete against the top teams in GA right now. They couldn't win a 1st Rd playoffs game last year. Would love to see you guys play Buford, Carrolton, Walton, Milton, Mill Creek, Grayson or any of the top schools in GA. Great job on the win tho!!!!
The whole reason why this game was set up is because Valdosta is number one in wins in Georgia and Massillon is number one in wins for Ohio. Massillon is not the best team in the state of Ohio. But thanks for the comment it helps the algorithm

Jim Trussel may want to verify this, but Paul Brown put Massillon on the football map. It has been football-manic for decades, and the rivalry with Canton McKinley has been fiercely contested every year.
On the side, Warren Harding HS has also been a strong program.
I mean, there are stadiums for these kids that surpass many at the college level -- and they're filled every Friday night.

What a game! To be down 14-0 after the 1st Q and win 28-17 says a lot. Lots of comments of people saying Valdosta was down this year, and I heard a similar thing, but that team was really defensively sound all game long. They might be supposedly down but they were still really good this year

I used to live and work in Winnersville (Valdosta). I moved there in the early 2000's and had NO IDEA the mania of high school and college (D2) football. It was insane. I arrived for the beginning of the shift from the city (Valdosta) team starting to wane and the county (Lowndes) starting to pick up steam. The Winnersville Classic (Valdosta/Lowndes) game every year was THE BEST football you would watch. It almost didn't matter how each respective team was doing each year; this game was different. It marked the end of the purity of football with these high schoolers, as it was so for the love of the game and the promise of a future, instead of endorsements and fast cars. I'm blessed to have witnessed it. I was also there in 2004 when Valdosta State won the D2 National Championship. It was electric.

Moved to Florida 20 years ago. I miss Ohio H.S. football. I went to alot of state championship games. Games at Hall of Fame Field in Canton. Akron Rubber Bowl. Massillon, McKinley, Moeller. Great teams all over the state.

It is amazing! This high school in Ohio in my high school, which is their rival, literally started the NFL in our communities. You can catch plenty of those videos on this channel. The atmosphere is unmatchable
My grandmother had season tickets every year under the roof on the home side. Needless to say I loved watching games with her and the group of fans it was like family everyone knew and loved everyone around that section. One row from the top it was a loooong climb up those stairs. Damn if i cant remember the row. ROW JJ maybe, because it starts over after GOING thru the alphabet once, its got a lot of rows till you reach the top.

You can tell the athletes for Valdosta were just superior all around, but as the game went on and everybody wore down it played less and less of a factor.

Truss if any team from down south, as much as I hate y'all as a 96 Tiger grad, played Mckinley I would be cheering for the Bulldogs! I live down south now and these southern people think they are the kings of football! When the Buckeyes beat Bama in 14 I went to the home depot in Fort Walton Beach with my Buckeyes sweatshirt on the next day, man I got some dirty ass looks! Love your channel man! No clue! Good question. I know OHSAA had rules against names on back of jerseys for a while. Perry used to have "Team" on the back but then had to get them removed.

I lived in Valdosta GA in the 70's and they live, and breath football. State champions almost EVERY year.

From a "drip" guy willing to wear that shirt into Paul Brown, that is respect. Scouting or not, Massillon/McKinley is the Ohio State/Michigan in high school sport. You see the respect in this video. You also see at the high school level why it is and will always be the MOST respected and GREATEST rivalry in high school football T-I-G!

@@JimTrussell I am not a Tiger, I am a Redskin. Hour and a half away, but wanted to see Massillon rip up the paper champs moniker. I haven't been to a McKinley/Massillon game yet, but plan on it. Its a rival that is the greatest in HS football. Nothing tops it. Just know our all time rival is Steubenville. Not a dog to take lightly either.
Ohio is a football state put them in the SEC and put Kentucky in the Big Ten 😂

I'm from Ohio and now live in Florida. Yes, I wish Ohio players could practice year around like they do down here. That actually gives those players in the states where they do allow year-round an advantage for those who would go on to play college football.

@@snugzgiddens3238 Ohio high school football players can't seize the spring opportunities afforded to their counterparts in other states routinely leaves many head football coaches scratching their heads as to why. The simple answer is that the state athletics governing body - the Ohio High School Athletic Association - does not allow it.
@@snugzgiddens3238 in Ohio over the summer there is no football. I think you can hold weightlifting sessions and that's it. Schools aren't allowed to hold practice until August. A lot of schools in Ohio such as McKinley and Massillon will actually allow fans to come view the first official practice on the first day. Normally it's midnight and they make an event out of it. Schools have been trying hard to get the rules changed. Lots of weird stuff like that
Ware County Gators from Georgia would love to play this team. Last out of state team Manatee high from Florida took us off the schedule because we physically beat them so bad.
Definitely heard of them 🤔🤔 most of Ohio top teams schedule anyone. Just hard to find teams on the right stride

MaxPreps and one other major media Source declare their own national champions just about every year now and it's taken somewhat seriously. But for a long time now, USA Today has given their top 25 list at the beginning of the year for the nation. The top-25 can shift around based on wins and losses but if the number one team goes undefeated and wins the State title for their state, they tend to get named national champion. That's what happened for my school in 1997. McKinley from Canton Ohio, was named the preseason number one team in the nation and they went undefeated and won the State title and were awarded the national title. Had McKinley lost even just one game oh, the title would have went to the number two team as long as they went undefeated.
@@JimTrussell thanks for the detailed reply. To be honest, I don't really follow HS football. Only reason why I clicked is because I'm also from NE Ohio, and wanted to see how local teams competed against the "big bad teams" from the south, since everyone always says that Big 10/Midwest teams can't compete with SEC teams in college FB. I knew there was a USA Today ranking of all the big national teams, but never knew of any national championship game or tournament, that's why I was shocked

What's Valdosta's win count now? My hometown i think is 5th in all time wins. They will hit the 900 mark this year. Nevermind showed it in the beginning. Getting pretty close. I thought Valdosta had way more than 944.

People crapping on this game 😂. These are two of the most historic HS programs in American history. Games like this should be celebrated even if both programs are down right now(which Valdosta is). Massillon and Canton McKinley are 2 HS national powerhouses, and they're 20 miles apart. NE Ohio is great football territory. Buckeyes should recruit more from there.
