Dimash has my favorite vibrato, especially on his softer notes. He can adjust the speed to match his duet partner's vibrato speed; but his own natural vibrato is particularly pleasing to my subjective ear.

There are plenty of examples you could have shown, I suppose, of Dimash also "relaxing into his vibrato". He does everything known to man pretty much, and he does it better than everyone. Kind of a rude, crass statement, and not always literally true...but if you really look at it in overall terms, he is kind of the best at everything - overall. Who else is capable of singing a whole concert only as a baritone, only as a tenor, only as a soprano? Dimash hasn't done that exactly, but I think he has shown us in enough different performances that he is capable of doing just that. His support when singing in any register is unbelievable. The incredible resonance, no matter which register. And Dimash is so multi-dimensional. When you figure in his Kazakh identity, the melismas that he throws in unexpected places, & particularly in his Kazakh material there is a deep spirituality as well....
Then all his Chinese performances; another unusual added dimension. His Pop/Rock material, then his serious "epic" material. The diversity of styles within so many different songs, the diversity within one single song!
Dimash is the genius artist/performer of our time. And not only a singer, or even an instrumentalist. His compositions are extremely deep and musically advanced. Imo THE Artist of our time.

    • @chrisliepe
      @chrisliepe  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +17

Right, he's so good at everything, and makes it look so effortless, yet engaged... That students just can't start there... we need to start with less honed, more raw, in-process versions of techniques like vibrato so that we can get a little closer, then use Dimash for inspiration! :)

    • @FretsOnFire

@@chrisliepe Right! A newbie singer trying to sing like Dimash right away is insane LOL. I'm not primarily a singer, but I would think that copying little inflections here and there, trying them out might be cool. But I can definitely see where trying to sing with an operatic type of vibrato with no training is usually forced and artificial, sounds horrible. A serious aspiring singer (or instrumentalist) should find a good teacher and follow their advice! Sure, occasionally a person might be such a natural talent that they might be able to do well without that, but I think for the vast majority of people it's the way to go. I think singing is even harder than playing an instrument in many ways, so I think that applies especially to vocal training.

Dimash is the god level of technique and stage presence and no, most people will probably never achieve that level but he does inspire people to try harder, to realise with training that more is possible than they believed.
Is that really a bad thing? Although I think that people who study Dimash shouldn't just study his voice but also his work ethic and his drive for perfection and then they'll come to realise that nothing is achieved without years of hard work.

Vibrato occurs naturally when all components like knowing our range, approaching it in the most appropriate way, appogio & diaphragmic breath support, placement & onset resonance coordination will inevitably result in a naturally relaxed vibrato, which is ultimately down to control of the above-mentioned and many more components. As one can also mislead themselves in forcing an inauthentic variant of a "vibrato" which to me is just a pitch modulation or oscillation. So you're absolutely right brother - know thyself first, and get the right support in communities like yours in order to keep a contextual reference point to our vocal projection processes, in creating the right conditions for vibrato to occur naturally, as it should. Thank you teach Liepe 🤗🙏🙌

There are always others who have to find a negative aspect to point out and hone in on about Dimash. They simply cant stand that this one man is so loved and respected and they cannot come close to his mastery or magic. Pickyune stuff in regards to his vibrato....and frankly wrong. His style may not be for everybody....but it obviously appeals to a lot of people. His tone, power, versatility, artistry, skill, control and overall package is unique. I would rather listen to Dimash and his flaws than the other guy and his supposed perfect vibrato

Funny enough I found my vibrato by singing along to Dimash‘s softer notes. Good choice to take his vibrato as the endpoint of this development and not the start. But you could have put him in the other category too, since his vibrato is just as lovely when he sings softly. 😊

I'd say there's one way to know if you're doing vibrato wrong, and that's if using vibrato takes more effort than singing without vibrato. Maybe it's an oversimplification or not good advice for some singers. But for me, vibrato is the default, and I have to choose when not to use it.
I got vibrato differently than most singers probably though. Vibrato started to enter my voice kind of naturally after I had worked through a lot of tension and such. I realized that when I was using minimal effort to sing a note, the vibrato happened 'automagically'. I had started listening to more power/symphonic metal vocalists so I just let the vibrato in and kind of built it up over time, realizing the more balanced I hit the note the more the vibrato happened. Obviously some notes have less because my voice isn't balanced on every note or the style, but it's always there. What I find cool though, is when I yell or do distortion I get a wide vibrato on it, which just boggles my mind. That doesn't seem like it should be possible. lol. The human voice is wild

Is the vibrato exercise at around 6:05, in addition to complete vocal freedom going to help me achieve the type of technique I asked about in the comments section of one of the earlier videos on vibrato? I’m referring to that sweet spot among rocking, leaping, stretching, and pulsing the larynx with dramatic movement but without tension, injury, or any cause of issues with pitch or timbre.

I am french so my english is not very good. So i made mistake... hope you will understand what i an saying.
Do you know Lara Fabian? Dimash is a huge fan of her since he is a child. I don't have any knowledge of vocal technique but lara is a masterclass on it. Impressive control on her voice, i think that you will appreciate a lot. Her vibrato is perfect. I will send you a link.
    Have a good day

Marko Saaresto of Poets of the Fall is also a master of control with a wonderful natural vibrato. Perhaps one of these days you'll react to them, either to Angel from Alexander Theatre sessions or to Cradled in Love live from Moscow 2013. I know I've requested it before. I'm not giving up hope just yet ;) Great advice in this video, thank you so much!

the woman have a lot that i want to understand and appreciate about her voice.
and i think you and everyone who's gonna watch this will be amazed by her voice and charisma.
i'd love to see a reaction and an analysis of the "FIRST TAKE' version, it have a different vibes to it which makes it Unique. thank you very much

How a vibrato is sung depends a lot of the content of the song, the nature of the song. Sometimes it will be subtle, sometimes hard is needed. So I do not agree with the statement here.

Look, you may not like Dimash's style, but I really doubt that you know a quarter of what he knows about vocal technique and that you have half the training that he has.
He has been studying singing since he was 5 years old, he graduated from the classical music conservatory (they offered him a stable position in his country's opera and he rejected it to train in other genres), he went to university and specialized in contemporary music, Jaz and pop, he did a master's degree and a doctorate.
Even today, he trains his voice every day and do you think you can teach him the correct way to vibrate? I really think you chose a bad example of mistakes in vocal technique.

Vibrato should have minimal variation in volume, otherwise it's too much like a trembling tremolo as if one is being physically shaken.

If you do actually watch the video you'll see what I'm saying: Dimash is indeed SO good that you can't start learning vibrato by trying to do what he does.... he's simply out of reach. You need to start with simpler techniques so you don't get discouraged.
