My brain tumor: a curse or a blessing? | Avi Yaron | TEDxAmsterdam

  • At the age of 26, Avi Yaron was involved in a motorcycle accident. A CT scan revealed that he had a brain tumor. It was in a nasty location. Removing it would save his life, but leave him dysfunctional cognitively, handicapped physically, and epileptic.
He searched for alternatives to surgery. In the process, he realized that he had been neglecting his body. He had been addicted to stress, to not sleeping. He suspected that his crazy lifestyle had suppressed his immune system and may have led to his inability to fight off the tumor. He decided to manage his stress better and improve his nutrition.
In 1993, Israeli Avi Yaron discovered he had a brain tumor. He learned that the instruments needed to remove the tumor completely had not yet been invented. There was nothing available that was small enough to see inside his brain. Yaron decided he needed to invent the instrument himself and set to work developing a scope small enough to see inside the brain. He used insect eyes as the model for how the scope would create a 3D view of the brain. In his miraculous story, he discusses the emotional side of of medical research.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Your testimony was so encouraging! I know that God has still a purpose why you are still alive up to this time. My 13-year-old son Sean was diagnosed of having a Pineal gland tumor last December 2021. Although a brain operation was performed on him called ETV(Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy) which diverted the passage of water being blocked by the tumor, he passed away last April 2, 2022, or barely 4 months after the first manifestation of the symptoms like vomiting, nausea, headache, double vision, loss of balance and coordination, etc. In our place here in the Philippines, we still don't have that kind of surgery that will remove the Pineal gland tumor. We also learned that it was an aggressive type of tumor. I'm still grieving over my son's death but I'm comforted on the other hand knowing that he is now in heaven with Jesus, his Lord, and Savior.

i can relate to your testimony...for years i was working under great stress in the healthcare field...and was regularly fainting on the workfloor...februari 2018 i was diagnosed with a brain tumor...and june 8 was my (successfull) operation...after the operation my level of stress due to sensory overload caused by all the sounds and sights of hospital environment increased my blood pressure that resulted in epileptic seizures and a stroke...during 3 weeks in the hospital i was right side paralyzed and aphatic...then i was transferred to a nursing home where i struggled for recovery...but i modified my diet (no meat...only fish, no sugar...only honey and lots of fruits and vegetables)...it is now end of march, 2019...i still feel very foggy in my head, conversation is limited to 20 minutes (extremely tiring) and walk inside with a limp and outside with the aide of a walker...the first thing i say when i wake up in the morning is: "Thankyou, Lord, for this new day"...

I wake up with a painful headach on right side of head behind right eye once a month, or every 2 months. The headache gradually becomes more painful until it causes me to feel nausea and Ieads me to eventually puke. After I puke it starts to go away. This bout lasts anywhere from 4-5hrs in total. I'm wondering if you experienced the same or similar?

    • @kevinmoore2501

Katie Pereira hey, Katie. My early warning signs were similar, but not exactly the same. I had a chronic headache, like you described, vomiting on a daily basis (usually accompanied with the headaches, and tapering off after vomiting), severe chronic fatigue, despite being fairly active, and what I now recognize as occasional losses of balance. (not falling, but, loss of the knowledge of feeling up from down). I also see that I had occasional bouts of losing consciousness, which I now recognize as seizures.

Dear Cythia, thanks. While I appreciate & use Herbal Medicine, I'd be cautious in inferring that it can eliminate brain tumors (which are very different than dementia, that sometimes may be caused by malnutrition and may disappear with proper balanced nutrition, if treated in the early stages of the disease)

Dear all, my mother was diagnosed with GBM end of May this year. The doctor told us she has 3 to 6 months to live. I have been devastated ever since. She has been very strong physically. She underwent a surgery tgat resulted with failed biopsy and not a full removal of the leisure. After the operation one month now my mother cant talk, walk or focus her sight. We the family are stuck now. We were told to do another MRI to help diagnose her. Now the doctor says 99 % GBM and a month or two to loive. She is quite weak so we do not know how to proceed. Should she undergo RT and chemo if she is weak. Should we try an alterbative medicine. Please please any ideas would help us a lot, even a trial. Thank you in advance.

Hello! My husband had and beat medulloblastoma at age 11. He was living a healthy life until the young age of 23 and is now fighting astrocytoma of cerebellum. He is to undergo 5-6 weeks of localized radiation and oral chemotherapy. Do you have any advice for us? Could radiation or chemo make things worse or should we follow the doctors advice? He is being seen at siteman cancer center at Washington University in St Louis, MO. We've heart good and bad things about them. They don't recommend any diet change and his neurosurgeon has given him 9 months to 3 years to live. They also say he can have nicotine and alcohol if he wants, just no alcohol before treatment. Any words of advice to help save my husbands life would be appreciated. Thank you for your share!!

Dear Jordan, Thanks for contacting, sorry to hear about your husband, happy to try to help (lots to ask & convey...). Can we switch to email (aviy@udpos.com) or phone/Skype/Zoom, considering I live in Israel now?
In short (I'm not a physician - so only providing my humble & inadequate knowledge, as another consideration for you).
How is your husband feeling? (physically, emotionally, mentally), what grade is the astrocytoma? in what location? size? what are his symptoms? Urgency, as conveyed by the physicians?
treatments he got for the medulloblastoma? radiation? how much? (it's OK if you don't know).
As you noticed, most physicians wont tell you if they don't understand the field (nutrition as example) or that there is a better solution than the one they practice. Thus, it's our responsibility to be proactive in managing our health, in understanding who to ask what & what position are they talking from...as all just humans...
      Hug & health!
      Avi.

Thanks for asking. As of my knowledge, the license will be taken only if you have seizures - you can check the specific rules in your area easily. In any case, I think that an early diagnosis & treatment of a brain tumor can save your live - with all do respect to a driving license. While a car has alternatives - our live doesn't... The morning headaches get gradually more painful from moment I wake and last 4-5hrs. Whats weird is that after I puke everything seems to slowly go away then I return to normal.

Young man, at 71 I think I can say that. Your intelligence and determination could do so much as an ambassador for Christ. Because of non believing Israel he gave his life on the cross and divoraced them. He turned to the unbelieving jews and gentiles. He called Saul of Tarsus to be the Apostle to the Gentiles and changed his name to Paul. He will remarry the remnant of Israel after this age is over.
All believers become the Body of Christ in the Grace age. You get there by just believing in the death, buriel and resurrection of Jesus. Works like baptism and ordinances were Israeli before they all passed in 1st century and will return in the 7 years of Jacob's trouble.
If your not a believer now the bible infers you won't become one one then.
