HOW TO MAKE REAL CARBON KATANA FROM CYBERPUNK 2077 THERMAL KATANA DIY

  • For more than a year I had been hatching the idea of making a katana out of carbon, and it finally happened! I made the carbon plates myself using vacuum infusion technology, the first time it turned out very well. The handle was cut on a CNC machine from an AD31 aluminum bus. Well, then fit, check, paint and assemble, and of course the test at the end)

    I wouldve suggested having made the edge itself out of a metal, especially since youre gonna paint it in the end, then it would be a bit more reliable and good at cutting but thats my OP

      Yeah... carbon fiber does not hold a good edge for long, steel is still the best blade material

      The guy is making a show item, not a sword for you to take out and do battle or yard work. It's going to sit on his wall and look pretty, so there would be no reason to forge a steel sword; give credit where credit is due, but thats my OP...

      Me too, carbon fiber for blades could be estetically nice but it is useless, that material is used for traction resistance parts, moreover he just layered casually the katana, without any thought about the direction of the force could be during a hit. That katana and that knife are not Sharp at all... He also painted them... It has been a waste of time and money... He also bought a compressor... too serious for a toy.

      A lot of the stuff can be acquired from a hardware store, the set up and preparations are where the real problems are, plus the fact that things can go very wrong if not careful and wearing proper protection...
      You could probably make a blade that holds it's edge better by buying a carbon steel bar and grinding it into your preferred shape; Joerg Sprave made a sword this way and it was pretty decent...

      It is, and that is why there aren't any carbon knives except this one. Carbon-steel is what you want in a blade because the exterior needs to be stiff and the core needs a little softness to absorb impacts.

    While the craftsmanship is exquisite and the final piece looks stunning, I agree with most commentors that a metal component should be added to the blade itself for it to be called "real katana" instead of "prop katana", as it doesn't have the cutting power nor I believe it is sturdy enough to withstand hitting some objects without shattering. An amazing piece as a form of decoration/trophy, extremly elegant and beautiful, but not a real weapon.

    Reason why it didnt cut good those fruits is.. well u werent making actual cut moves. U were smacking fruits 90° with almost straight sword.. if you made tip of sword a bit higher while slicing downwards, and pulling swords towards you while doing it, it would go much better..

  • @stevenlopez5832
    @stevenlopez5832 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Carbon swords make pretty center pieces that's about it. They can't hold a real edge as you can see from his cutting test every cut wasn't much better then just using a baseball bat. They're fragile if you start hitting things other then melons it will most likely shatter. Carbon as a blade is terribly unbalanced as you do want some weight to you're blade carbon is far to light. Kudos on the build though it looks pretty cool.

    A toy katana made with epoxy and super expensive materials, made on machines most will only own in their dreams... Ain't this a flex...
    Anyways... With all that tech and materials, at least you should have made it with a full tang, a metal edge, or at least, a three ply blade so that whatever epoxy edge you have will be on a solid part of the blade and not separated on the very edge held only by a layer of glue.
    An upscale toy katana... This is what it is.
