That really hit home with me. "Am I allowed to have fun with my art".

Yeah it is a pretty sad thing, and probably a really common thing, to realize that so much of what you draw is to prove yourself to others instead of having fun with it.

4:19 - 5:50 This was like a slap in the face, but one I needed as I tend to obsess over the academics. This was a good reminder for me that while it's important to develop a working knowledge of the fundamentals/anatomy, it's equally important that I don't get lost in it and neglect why I started drawing in the first place... Great video, looking forward to seeing who you will be studying next!

Thanks! And yeah i think you pretty much summed it all up nicely.

I would say that the fewer aspects you neglect in learning to draw, the better it will be.

Broo, I watched a lot of world building vids of you when you first did it i really enjoyed it, but much time has past since them I started drawing more serious too and i didnt have much time, i check up on your channel and this is the first video i watch I DRAW ANIME there is no shame to it, having fun is what its about. And man you have already drawn so much! Dont worry if there are these stuck up people who will always meg about not drawing the realistic stuff and using all the fundamentals. Please have fun, only you are allowed to decide how you want to do your art. Goodluck :D

Really good breakdown! As for "am I allowed to have fun with my art?", that is something I make sure I do with my personal work. It's for me and only for myself.

I love Otomo's art. This has really helped me get a feel for his style.

This is a great concept for a series of videos! Otomo's work sense of scale for backgrounds is also impressive.

Yeah that's true, you can look at someone's art as much as you'd like, until you actually try drawing like them, it's impossible to understand exactly what makes it unique.

I’m glad to see you playing around with stylization, I really enjoyed watching a lot of your older videos that had different stylization like the wolf queen one and the evangellion one. You are quite skilled and it is always enjoyable to see you trying different things.

I had no idea how to type in what I was looking for after seeing a couple artists mainly using this style for graphic novels and animation and could not for the life of me put it into words. This is a good start tho

Keep doing you! I love this, rarely can I find how-tos for anime styles like Akira or Kim Jung Gi's artwork, so seeing this warms my heart 😊Usually I see more shoujo styles where there's more exaggeration. So I really appreciate this video so much! I started with the exaggerated faces and it's especially hard to work backwards and simplify but still create define characters. Love this!

Take the fundamentals and extrapolate the measurements, angles and details, to your liking this is my technique to be inventive not only with the face.

This reminds me of the advice I heard: “It’s more about what you draw, than how you draw.” In my humble opinion you definitely have the “how” down and I love what you draw. Maybe a better question would be “what do I want to do, with my art”? I hope I’m not presuming too much.

    • @BrotherBaston
      @BrotherBaston  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah that "what" part is definitely another step to take, having somekind of goal with your art, some project or any kind of long term thing to aim for.

Yeah he definitely has a really strong style. I actually just looked him up again to see his new stuff since you mentioned him here and he seems to be uploading stuff on youtube now, he just did some videos for inktober. Just watched one of them, it's fascinating the way he uses inks, he makes it looks so easy.

For me, this is more the Syndrome of the same structure as the face, because it has a lot of variations, but they talk to the same structure and unfortunately I am a big fan incurable so I don't think it's a bad thing the faces here look pretty similar it makes up for it with a lot of other elements and actually it has a range even bigger for faces in his most current manga, in short it's not a syndrome that bothers you compared to other works of this manga and anime industry with generic art with nothing to compensate.

If it makes you feel better, art school is no longer the only means to get around in your art career. Believe me I know I went to art school. After you graduate you become a jack of all trades but a master of nothing in today's day and age. It might have been a different story back then but now it matters less on whether or not you went to art school. Maybe one or two brownie points but that's really about it

dude be yourself!! these snobs dont know shit! ride the line between perfectionism and creativity, ying and yang, and everything is fine.
falling into any extreme makes people snobish.
all the art student are snobs, because they dont like real creativity without perfection, and all the creative people hate art students, because they think theyre not creative.
in the middle is the golden way, fun, hard work if you want to, freedom and expression.
every artist is different, and thats how it shoud be.

Realistic art is so fucking boring and anybody can do it if you learn the technique of paint by numbers...I mean shit, you can go to school for it.
Real is comes from the heart... So if all you want to do is draw cartoons.. do that! Stop letting these uppity ass School taught artists tell you what art is! Omg... The only reason why the art world is so boring now is because we let people who aren't even real artist dictate what art is. It's fucking corny and that has to die
