  • AmPro 3600 I recently acquired running some old arcade PCBs and a PS2.
High-spec CRT projector from mid 90's. Capable of 1600x1280, but this is seeing how it performs with 15kHz and 24kHz, 'standard and medium' res arcade games.
Colours are a little blue and dark in the video due to camera (also view in HD or 1080p!), but the image is close to perfection.

I remember seeing a CRT projector in a Shakey's Pizza parlor in 1992 and I wanted to have it for this very reason. I wanted a home theater with my VCR and my Super Nintendo.

    Cool video 👍
I have a NEC 1350 LC in my Home cinema and also using it for gaming with old consoles. Definitely the best picture you can get with such screen size.

Thank you!. I should do another video as I didn't really do it justice. I've also got a Barco 600 which is very good (despite being a decade older and entirely analogue electronics). Toshiba rear projection CRTs have a hugely under-appreciated picture too.

If you do one of the Guncon 2 to Time Crisis arcade gun mods, you can replace the sensor with one of Namco's amplified sensors which work better on projection screens and older dimmer CRT monitors.

Ah, superb - I shall look into that - thank you very much :-)

I hope it lasts a good while before needing to replace or fix the CRTs. This kind of thing is on my 'want' list.

Sadly I'd say there's a lot of parts you'd never get for something like this - CRTs, LOPT's etc. Fortunately mine's only a few hundred hours on it and I don't use it for long, so I can't ever see the CRTs burning out. I expect other parts will need fixing though. Already had a failed tantalum capacitor burn up and smoke the house out when I first powered it on! I think it's losing horizontal phasing at the top too, so will have to fathom that out (I have the schematics thankfully). Same obsolescence/repair issues as any old TV though :-).

Ou lala! An R-type Leo, it looks great. I suppose you have a Cave PCB say... Mushi Futari or Saidaoujou? How about a DOA on Naomi or something incredible like a Darius or Ninja Warriors?
God so many games that could look great!

Thanks. It's such a massive projector I wouldn't fancy turning it on it's side to do vertical games (I also don't have any :-( ). It was so heavy I injured my back when putting it into the car! With 3-screen games, I've got a triple-monitor setup for a bit of emulation (see my other video of Driver's Eyes). However you'd really want 3x CRT projectors for Darius and Ninja Warriors so you can get 15kHz with scanlines :-D. When I get my Naomi-50 base unit setup, I'll have to run the projector again and show some more JAMMA stuff and maybe a Naomi game.

I just got an Ampro 2000g for free. I'm hoping I can figure out how to program the fucker. They aren't exactly user friendly.

Did you figure it out? I'm looking at a 2000G that comes with a remote. Curious what to expect having never seen a CRT projector in real life.

hey can you help me out with convergence, not sure how to do it

I can try :-). Where you at? Got the spanners out and aligned the three lenses so that their centres are pointing at the same spot? There's a handy built-in grid for when you come to the electronic convergence step after that - I can try and advise on that.
