New Hozier music is always a reason to celebrate

I really like the way (beginning at around 5:30) that you're describing how Hozier uses the "two takes" for the chorus, how one is belted, huge and 'pulling away from the mic,' and one is low and close and smooth. I think it's not about managing personal technique and abilities, but it's totally about how he wants the vocal sounds to highlight and ground the lyrics and the story he's telling. The tale, and the consequences, are both enormous and outrageous, and yet hushed and intimate - and he's managed to tell both sides of the story at the very same time with the way he's blended those takes. There's so much depth here - thank you for pointing out an element of it that I might not have considered otherwise!

Yeah man you gotta look up the story of Leda and the Swan. Gives a lot of context to the lyrics and it gets more complex at each listen

1 There’s definitely a chorus, and it’s dramatic as can be. 2 He doesn’t make mistakes on a recording. He’s in total control of his choices.

the song sounds overproduced and meaninglessly flamboyant. the guy has raw talent, putting him in a studio and editing is a terrible idea. not the best version of the song. all of his best is done simple, acoustic, and live. without a shadow of a doubt.
