Great video and playing! I can play this now thanks to this video. The only thing i cant figure quite out is how to use the sustain pedal in the verses and chorus. Or do you not use the sustain pedal at al?
Thank you. That`s great to hear. Yes I do use the sustain pedal a lot in this one, for when when I need to `lengthen` a note or chord . It`s difficult to explain.
hi lee! i feel like you could try putting together some sort of "full piano arrangement" off of Carl and Suggs' Cracks In The Pavement from the A Picture Of London BBC special, theres an upload of the song on youtube but its made trimming from the sequences in the special where theyre playing, and it sounds really nice, yet horridly choppy at times since the cutting isn't the best, and it's not a finalized piece. Bed and Breakfast Men also did a cover, it works really well as a version with more properly composed lyrics, and the song ended up being transformed into becoming Carl's own Love Song No. 7 for his A Comfortable Man album, i feel like you'd be able to do it great justice!! much love❤
Hi there. Thank you for your very kind message here. I made this a few years ago, th-cam.com/video/Lv0L6kt0t0I/w-d-xo.html I hope you enjoy this. Best wishes, Lee.
This is fantastic I would love to be able to work these out my self and I have trying to work embarrassment out for while I have got the right hand sorted that I worked out from the recording but just can't seem to hear the left hand would it be ok if I copied your playing? It feels a bit rude seen as you have gone through all the effort of working it out by ear for some one to just copy it either way keep up the great work these are awsome!
Thank you for your kind & considerate comment, very much appreciated. I can & do spend years painstakingly working out a song by ear, & then I put it on here, & it makes life easy for others to just copy...but there you go!. Of course I have no rights to this song, and all credit must go to Mike Barson & Lee Thompson who wrote it. I can only take credit for working it all out by ear, & making the above video of my performing it. I`m just grateful that Mike Barson & Lee Thompson/Madness & the owners of this track allow me to share my efforts here. Anyway, the left hand part is incredibly important, & this is the best I can work it out for my reproduction of the 1980 single version you see here. Of course Mike has always altered how he plays this live over the years, but I wanted to reproduce the original 1980 studio recording. So many people get the chords wrong to this, but with the left hand part added it all makes sense. For example in this song Mike plays a G# chord with an F bass note on the left hand. This can make that G# chord sound like an F minor, if you don`t know he`s playing an F on the left hand part.........it is a very complex puzzle, but you can see it all here. I`m very grateful that you`ve acknowleged my efforts, thank you. Yes mate, please feel free to copy, & enjoy!.
@MrNuttylee7 thank you very much I'm very grateful for all the work you put in to your videos your a very talented man also I do believe Mike plays it quite a lot simpler live now but not too sure but I'll be working hard at this :-)
My respects from Argentina
Thank you very much.
this got me pumped to practice
That`s great to hear. Enjoy.
My favorite Madness song, looks like fun to play as well
It is fun, but difficult.
You`ve made me realise that whenever I sit at my piano I have to play/ practice it.
Yes Lee, quality as always, love it!
Thank you as always Monty.
