    1 hour of flight time with that battery pack seems very short. The quiet flight is impressive. It gets up just as quick as a gas version.

    As always- I LOVE your videos Wayne!!! Great and pretty in-depth for Dennis. I like the plug 'n play aspect of the system and the aerolite 103 is almost the ideal craft for this type of system. The only thing I would do differently is a higher voltage (24v, 36v or preferably a 48v battery & system) and prismatic cells for ease of replacement. It would allow for small diameter cabling which reduces weight. Finally, if the controller requires 12v a simple buck converter (small & light) can be installed between the battery & controller. But- very exciting project & I bet tons of buyers! Very happy for Dennis & grateful for your filming efforts!

      David, thank you for your support and for your very insightful comments. I know Dennis is excited about his first electric propulsion system in an Aerolite 103. It is a big step which I am sure will be followed by continuous improvements in system design as time, experience and battery technology evolve. Most important advances in any system or process start with a first step, This first step is Dennis Carley's Aerolite EV-103. Best Regards, Wayne Whitley

      why would you lower the voltage from 72V? There's a reason you run the high voltage because you can run smaller conductors and have less losses. I'm surprised its only 72V and not 100+V

    Fantastic! I flew ultralights in the 70's, general aviation after that, and now powered paramotors and paragliding but this E-version of a great ultralight is the next great adventure as I want to get back to ultralights. I have to mention I have a EV car and solar so that expense (fuel) is gone...and now that savings is possible with this aircraft.

    Aren't the batteries heavy? How quiet was it?

    • @WhitleyVideos
      @WhitleyVideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mick, yes, the batteries are heavy, but the weight of a gasoline engine, fuel tank and fuel are comparable to the weight of the electric motor and batteries. The electric aircraft is quieter, but you still have the sound of the rotating propeller in flight. Check the links to Dennis Carley for more information. Regards, Wayne Whitley

    Next step Solar wing coverings and a tiny gas engine to charge batteries in flight like the BMW I3.
    I know that defeats the purpose but I can dream.
    I'm really excited to see where batteries go in the future, the lighter and more efficient they get the better for us.

    Congrats, but still, I think, a plane with much better aerodynamic and thus much lower power-demand, would fit better the E-plane-rolle. I like upmost the Whing-Ding-II, wasn´t that good in the 1970´s, but today it would be a good candidate, with modern construction and materials... Even its weight was half as high as that of the AerolIte.
