dude! this is the greatest video. My steering slipped out on me while in the middle of the yard. Mike, your presentation of the information is prime! I like your personality, even like your singing...I do a little crooning when I work. Take care, sir. I'll be in on another Cub Cadet maintenance video. I'll probably need a John Deere video or two as well. Thank you!! and God bless you, sir.
Mike….you forgot to tell the people to get the steering wheel facing the correct way up top before tightening the nut on the steering shaft….details Brother….don’t forget about the details….otherwise another great video full of good information….have a blessed day!!
Excellent point, I didn’t even think about that. Guess people will just have to learn that one on their own, it doesn’t affect the steering at all just makes ya look goofy. Dang it now I am going to have to check mine pretty sure it is sideways lol
I actually changed mine last summer and I didn't have to remove the plate. I had a helper hold the steering rod up and reached my hand up in there to replace the bushing. Working alone I could see your way being a little better.
Great video. The first one I've found that actually explains things. My problem is that when I use the impact to loosen the tie rod nuts, the whole bolt spins and the nut doesn't move. Is there a solution to this problem?
No idea I just mess with old stuff. I would wiggle the wheels and they may need new bushings. I am going to dropping a video soon on a bushing upgrade to tighten up the steering on Cubs
Great job with good information. All that time and effort it seems like a bit of grease wouldn't have hurt don't you think??? You did say a wear item???
Donald I am honored you are watching my videos. Someone of your age and status in life should just call a mobile mower mechanic. I suggest calling Don Jr, he will get ya setup.
You can carefully grind down some of the pinion gear packing it not to loose any pins then use a washer the thickness of what you ground off.[if u're as cheap as I am😁.
The designer of that should be treated like a HORSE with a broken leg ..anyhow by raising the steering shaft the hex bushing can slip into position of the HORSE i mean the Designer..

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed my crooning haha. You must be from the south to appreciate my oddities like that

@@MowerMike lol sorry Brother I’m just a stickler for details I guess
Well done! Definitely the best video out there :D
Thanks!
Nice set up in the garage. Great explanation on the information as you go. 👍👍
Thanks! I am working more on my background so my shop doesnt look so messy.
@@MowerMike you will get it together all in time to how you want it.
Lololo my shop is over full now and it’s cold in West Texas
Glad I watched this, thought I was crazy cause I didn’t notice the bushing difference and the mower did the same thing after I swapped it out
Glad to help, it is a frustrating setup.

Only needed bushing under gear, I held my steering wheel up with my jacket, job done
All that work for nothing, only needed bushing, no need to remove ai that
I made the same mistake. Thanks for the link to the fatty.
Sure thing Wes
Cool shop for sure
You’ll lucky 😊
Merry Christmas
Yep am blessed to be able to do this. Merry Christmas!
Good job brother.. done like a true professional
Hey Thanks Mick! That video was a challenge lots of takes and clips. Hopefully it helps people prevent all the screwups I make haha

The top of that bolt should be a bolt where you can get an open ended wrench on it and hold it as you unbolt it.
Have you found this happening on the newer XT1's? My steering has a lot of play (rocky land we have)

Am sure it wouldn’t hurt
Does the clutch and drive belt HAVE to come off to replace the bushing or can I leave it on ?

My 2014 LTX1045 bushing was shot 500 some hrs. 9 year old tractor
Hey man my tire rod nut wont come off I got one loose but the other is just spinning
Find something to hold onto that sucker with. It should have a spot above the linkage you can get a wrench on.
Ya I should have seen this sooner I was hitting the steering shaft with a hammer lol
Haha I have been there. I hope it isn’t too beat up.
@@MowerMike I can’t get the yellow plate out from underneath the mower

Haha I like it but you are a super tight ass! Cracking up over here
was gre a
t
is there no bushing on the steering rod you took off ;are they rubber or steel
I appreciate the comment. Welcome aboard things could get weird ;)
@@MowerMike on the tierod that bolts to the plate for steering it looks like theres one on each side
No..another CRAZY wayward design by CUB CADET..
Looks like theres a tooth missing on the rack gear
Yep there is at the very edge, those are a pain to replace. Good eye
The designer of that should be treated like a HORSE with a broken leg ..anyhow by raising the steering shaft the hex bushing can slip into position of the HORSE i mean the Designer..
Haha youch!!!
you don't need to tear it all apart...
You must have small fingers
You said it has power steering don't believe so I dont think you had to pull that plate off
Yep has an electric power steering pump right behind the engine. Is much easier for me to just drop the plate off.
All that for nothing, only needed bushing, remove one nut
Sometimes that is all ya need Ben
