    that's a figure 8 puffer they can live their whole lives in brackish. it's the green spotted puffers u r talking about that have to switch over to marine quality water as adults

      Zachary Mooney figure 8 puffers come from the Mekong River they live in freashwater and as they move down the river towards the sea the higher the salt, this is figure 8 not green spotted. Figure 8 can and do go in full salt they just don't stray to far from estray and go in and out of the salinity... Pea puffers live in freashwater.

    I had a pea puffer, until it passed. I just discovered a really nice freshwater puffer. The South American/Amazon puffer. They like groups of 6 or more. Big fun.

    Super cute puffer but I feel like adding other fish to your puffer tank kinda distracts the beauty cuteness spunkiness and intelligentness of the figure eight puffer.

  • @ryanlee5298
    @ryanlee5298  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    yes but it's actually a bad thing for them to puff up. It means they feel threatened which will stress them and if they puff as juveniles which is what he is it could kill him. So you want to avoid them puffing up.

    Hi Ryan... finally came across your youtube video.... Thanks f or sharing. We are considering purchasing our first Figure-8 Puffer this Friday, May 5th . We used to have a pea puffer in a 5 gallon tank.. We will have a 16 gallon for the new one.
    We might look into couple of mollies for companion... Did you ever show your water changes yet? Thanks

    Mine is 3 years old now and just started getting problems with him this week! Ov grown attached to him having him so long and it's quite sad! But got him in a quarantine tank on his own just now he was coming to top and gulping air and blowing up and when I massaged his belly loads of bubbles came out his gills and he has started being more lively soon as I don't this! There heart is just under the kinda at front of belly in there gills this is weird don't know what that was idle trapped wind or what but looking at him just now and he is staying down in the water now it was like his buoyancy was failing and swim bladder was just filled with air! Hopefully it's not kidney failure but never got and liquid or oily stuff come out when done that but I'll be keeping close eye on him just now while I'm in lockdown anyway I'll be with him all the time just now!

      Lily Albernaz I think your sayings he eats a lot but isn't growing much. That's fine with the Figure 8 puffer fish. I had mine for almost 2 years and he grew a total of maybe half an inch. So as adults they only get up to be about 3in long so they don't grow fast and they don't grow long so just make sure he's eating and he has good water quality and he's happy! THANKS for the great question! If you have any more comments or questions please feel free to ask.

    • @taoutdoors8110
      @taoutdoors8110 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BOrganically make sure you get the specific gravity of the tank at the pet store. Copy that level in your tank, take a long time acclimating, then throughout a few weeks slowly heighten the gravity to what is recommended. There is good information that’s more detailed on the internet now compared to a few years ago!

      yes those were mollies with him. The mollies were some of the 40 babies my adult mollies had but I had to take them out of his tank cause they were getting to his food before he would. You can also keep puffers with other puffers but you need atleast 15 gallons for the forst one and people say you need another 10 extra gallons per additional puffer but I would do 20 gallons per puffer to be safe and you have to add them all to the tank at the same time!
