Hey, thanks. In a few places, the cement has crumbled into gaps because the gaps weren't properly filled, and a few wooden disks are moving. Otherwise, everything is fine. Soon, I'll film a video showing how it looks after 4 years.
If you are starting with a gravel floor, I wonder if an inch of sand under the wood and sand or ag lime used for the filler would not be better than concrete.
@@kevinkangas215 I don't know if it's better or worse, but it would definitely be different. There are thousands of ways to do it, and this is just one of them.
would the floor be too cold if done let say in a living room ? I thought of doing few rooms but worried it will be too cold to walk barefooted Many thx
This floor is in our bedroom and no it is not cold even for barefoot. Under the concrete layer is a plastic film and 5cm polystyrene foam(It’s not filmed in the movie). Those layers prevent humidity and coldness coming from the ground. We have 4-5 months long winters and in the coldest weeks we have temperature from -20 to -30 C. Good luck! If you have any questions drop me an email latwoodart@gmail.com
@@latvianwoodartisan I finally did a room but looks like the wet concrete I poured on top was wet enough and the wood absorbed a lot of moisture . A month later when it dried - every single piece was wobbly .. I am not sure what mixture did u use
A lot of effort with using the concrete. I also see various pieces of the wood shrinking and separating away from the concrete. How is this aspect being managed long-term?
lovely floor, and excellently explained. I have had such an idea for many years and now I have the opportunity to do it. I have a question... do I have to fill the cavities between the wooden circles with a mixture of cement and sand and I'm not sure that some master with a floor planing machine would planer under the poured concrete ... I hope you understand me ... is there any other way ... thanks and best regards from Belgrade ... Dragan
Hi there! What a beautiful work! We would like to do this in our bathroom.. So How long does the wood dry before to lay it? And, second question what do you use to seal the wood in between? Thanks very much for your potencial answer!
Hello, thank you! Wood should be quite dry, if you will put raw wood between concrete after a while it will shrink and you will notice small gap between wood and concrete. I would suggest to find dry driftwood or branches in the forest for this floor. Raw wood dry at least one year here in north Europe. I just added all details step by step in the video description, I hope it will be useful! Good luck with your floor!
@@latvianwoodartisan we are currently 4 days into our homestead house build and i saw this idea and loved but some others when i brought it up told me climate will effect it and sealing will be hard... so i was hoping you had some insight now that you have done it looking forward to the video.hope its before we have to lay our floors lol
Hello! It looks beautiful! What about the dangers one can face with termites and mould? How does this type of floor stand up to termite damage and mould?
I think the mortar on bottom should block termites from coming up through the earth, and if the rest of the house is well sealed, they shouldn’t be able to access the floor. I don’t know much about termites because they are not common in my area, but carpenter ants are. Mold needs moisture to grow so as long as the floors are kept in a dry environment that should prevent mold.
Would love to see how the floor is holding up. It sure turned out beautiful!
@@codyclaypool315 The floor is holding up really well. I’ll soon share a video showing how it looks after 4 years.
Why not use epoxy instead of cement??
Exspensive
would be very expensive

Won’t cement hold water and help rot ?
@@samsally3581hmm yeah... I wonder how that doesn't happen with the tiles in my shower🧐

Hey. It's beautiful. is it still holding on after 4 years?
Hey, thanks.

how long will such a floor last and how to properly operate it?
Hi, this floor does not have expiration date. It will last my and my sons lifetime for sure!
Cleaning same as wood floor or other material floor.

impresionante, hermoso trabajo, que usas para pegar los rodajas y para cubrirlas, alguno pueda darme ese dato
para pegar es pagamento para ceramicos y de juntas es portland con arena fina
А чем заливать первый раз перед лаком?🙏
The problem with this floor is I would constantly walk into things. I couldn't take my eyes off that gorgeous floor.

What type of grout was used to fill the gaps?
I have been wanting to do somwthing like this but use light and darker woods and make designs..
Very, very beautiful wood floor.
Thanks for sharing. Keep up the excellent work 👍
How difficult is it to keep everything level?
It depends on a pre-prepared concrete screed and the exact lengthening of the log.
Sooo much work but beautiful
What kind of wood??
Thanks:) I mix driftwood with reclaimed oak, plum tree, juniper, birch, pine tree, cherry tree, alder.
Amazing work.
What's the material you used to "glue" wood and fill these gaps?

Antes de colocar a madeira tem que fazer o tratamento ante cupim só depois faz a colocação e cobre com resina

Is it possible to bypass the big sander and just using the small grinder? And what type of disk did you used?

Yes, you can do it like that! For small one I used sander disk and I started with grit 30 and finished with 100.

Perfect fillings was With Epoxy not with cement

I think the choice is the cost. Cement filling surely is more affordable than epoxy
