It is good to see You Tubers connecting our African people once again. Artificial colonial borders have divided our people for decades since independence. Our foolish politicians like this division because it allows them free access to our resources while people stay in poverty. Fortunately, TH-camrs are now raising our people's consciousness by telling people's own stories from the ground. Big cheers to UG Connect and Electa from Kampala 🇺🇬 ❤ ✌🏽🌷

Beautiful mill there. And the whole ecosystem is breathtaking. UG CONNECT you are doing great keep going my friend. Watching you from the america. I enjoy your content
In my father's ancestral village of Sichei in Bungoma County they had a communal water mill situated on River Kuywa. I never saw it in operation but am glad through this video I now have. Thank you for sharing this.
Its interesting to understand the effect of colonization in our culture. Lawrence has kept saying that they hardly eat Ugali in Uganda but now I understand, The ability to grind grains is what made Ugali a staple in Kenya. The mill was introduced by the colonizers and Nabongo Mumia was the first Kenyan to own such a mill over 100 years ago
@@nzappazapp8360 all collaborators had them. Seems it was a colonial heritage. The richest family in Kisii, one of the richest families in Kenya, Nyandusi family owned them. We can improve their tunnels, channel exact amount of water, make better turbine plates and make a system with sieves that will rotate backwards to the entry point until it can pass through the sieves and into a bucket.
This is a very old turbine. I believe that it can be improved and made more reliable and more weather proofed. The turbine can be made lighter and more energy efficient. They could also generate electricity and store it in lithium batteries for future use. This has given me some ideas. Thanks.
With the way things are going in the world, GOING OFF GRID & SELF SUSTAINING SKILLS WILL BE A WINNER instead of relying on other people's systems! People GO OFFGRID, THEY ARE GOING TO SHUT OFF EVERYTHING SOON!!
The thoughts going through my mind are getting bitten by a snake 😆 🤣. I'm so scared of walking in the forest, especially after it rains since it's when snakes come out😅
That forest is the reason why that river is so full of life! If they start cutting down those trees, the river will quickly dry up! You see the importance of trees? 🌳😏
Yes, I don't buy that colonial nonsense about it being introduced by the colonials. I know African technology when I see it. That mill is ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamia technology just like the Kisii Luo Nyatiti like music instrument which is also found in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Am not shocked they have river mills too in Luhya Land. Also all these tribes drink traditional alcohol using pipe strows just like in Ancient Mesopotamia. Dont forget their hand washing before meals or the Kisii curving culture. They those people even in their oral history. Any way all Kenyan tribes are.

I bet those people are very healthy. Nothing like living away from polluted air, contaminated water and mass produced food
I think this is the reason why most corn/ Maize flour are rough in kenya, this could be the genesis of it.

Kisii people do not have kings, but they have Council of Elders. The only kingdom in Kenya is the Abawanga, who are an extension the Uganda kingdoms.
Great insights here, Thanks so much for the clarification
