i just gotta say, its really nice seeing someone do more "shear" videos ...ur one of the few thatll throw a shear vid out every now & again & its much appreciated... & may i add, u do some brilliant shear work my brother... thank u dude
Slide cutting shears are also great for point cutting, as well "talking" them across the top length for added texture. The reason for the flip shears is because the direction the teeth of the thinning/texture shear is facing is the direction of influence you give to the hair. For example, using your thinning shear in the usual way influences the hair to push up. Flip the shear, and the teeth are now on top. This influences the hair down. I flip my regular thinning shears when I need to blend or take weight from a cowlick but don't want it to stand up from doing so. Easy way to remember is teeth up, hair up. Teeth down, hair down. Give it a try. It's an awesome technique.
Schweet upload. Thank you kindly for the info you shared in this vid. From a fellow barber point of view this is a great way to get into(and stay sharp) in the straight hair hair game. Keep informing the people...
@moi9148 I've only done about 100-200 cuts over the past year, so not too much frequency on them. They could use some sharpening, but still really enjoyable to use.
I just bought the 6.5 shears & the Koa flip shears. These things are sharp & cut the straightest crispiest line! So sharp in fact, I took a chunk out of my knuckle 😂 That’s my fault of course …I still love them. I work with my mom & she bought them as well!
Mizutani! They are the highest quality and still handmade in Japan but definitely not a beginner shear. They can be a tad on the expensive side. Find your nearest showroom and if you are in Philly they is one showroom there.
We will have to respectfully agree to disagree but I have used Hanzo for years and then switched to mizutani. Night and day difference. I can’t touch Hanzo anymore they feel very cheap
@@alvatrooper oh I got you 😂 trust me I get you. You should see me moving the camera again and again to try and center it from the other side of my chair. I have those waiting chairs and my barber chair and mat in the way too lol. It’s a pain! I’ll do better 😜
You’d just have to try some and see I suppose. I used to use larger shears. Slowly worked my way down to 5.5” and love them. Just have to find your preference
What’s shears do you actually use day to day? I’m wanting to buy the best possible shears for my wife who’s a cosmetologist. I’ve looked at the hanzo previous to this video now the mizutani and of course the fresh. She deserves the best so which ones should I purchase 😊
I'm trying to get all the tools I will need to cut hair even after this I'm not sure what scissors to get from them. I'm willing to buy 4 scissors at most to go along with my clipper, trimmer, shaver. Which 4 scissors would you recommend?
I love ❤️ your channel. I got the makai 5.5. The tang(pinky grip) is so horrible I simply can’t use these shears. I love the concept $100 plus $50 for new pair. Is there anyway they can make their makai models with the same tang as their other models. The tiny flat tang on their shear models is so dangerous there’s no ergonomics or power. Coming from a mizutani DB 20 5.5 for $1,300 it’s not even in the same league. The only good feeling tang and scissor from them is the Matsu 6.75 inch. They need this tang on all their other models. The problem with the Matsu is is way too large to be your all around shear. I wish I could ask them directly to change their tang designs because the company is great and their price is a home run but those tiny flat tangs on all their models is insanely bad and dangerous
They don’t have any blending shears? I don’t want another pair of thinning shears if anyone can let me know it will be appreciated blending shears and thinning shears aren’t exactly the same thing
Wait!? So you don’t sharpen fresh shears?? At my shop we have a guy who sharpens each pair of shears for $40 and we find ourselves sharpening them a couple times a year…. If I pay $100 then $50 a year on shears I’ll be saving A LOT of money😮
If u know how to cut hair, all u need is one pair standard size shears and one pair of thinning shears: all these companies taking advantage of knew Barbers making them that they need a lot more than they need: and that goes goes for all barber tools
They’re not taking advantage. They’re giving options. No one is making a barber buy multiple shears or multiple clippers. Yes it can be done with just one set

I bought some 3 years ago (non barber) trim my beard etc and let my barber borrow and he fell in love with them bang for your buck
Love it!
I use both the 7" Mehani and Akira 50 shears and they work great and just as good as human shears
Yeah nice!
dont use shears too much at the moment, but had to comment on the video quality. Shit is pro tier my dude!
I appreciate it! Trying to level up the content!
Mizutani! They are the highest quality and still handmade in Japan but definitely not a beginner shear. They can be a tad on the expensive side. Find your nearest showroom and if you are in Philly they is one showroom there.
I’m good with these. I’ve used mizutani before and they’re solid, but don’t do anything these won’t do. For a fraction of the price

The thinning shear that has a blunt blade, the cool thing about them they leave no cutting marks

Well I know what I’m getting when I need new shears 😎🤙🏼
Do it 🙌🏻
you should make the table and the clipper wall more in the middle of the shot. itll look sick asf

is there a difference between bay bliss lo pro and bay bliss pro?
Lo pro is a clipper Babyliss pro is the company
Reuzel shears are the best coz they sharp like black shears 😎
Idk about it

You should review kamisori shears, Ive seen a lot of good reviews and that they are better than Hanzo shears
I think I have enough 😂
You ever try swivels? Just got some and cut with them for a day and I’m not sure yet..
Yeah not a fan but there’s a time and place for them

I'd say a 5.5", maybe a 6.5" or 7" for scissor over comb, and a standard thinner like a 40 tooth or 34 tooth. That's all you really need
@@Seancutshair Which would you say more the 6.5 or 7 and the 40 or 34 tooth?
if you could only afford 1 shear for cutting/barbering and 1 for texture what 2 shears excactly would it be?
Probably a 6” standard shear, and a 40 tooth thinner
