@@9usuck0 Good god man, go see a therapist 😂
Nimona is very underrated! It made me laugh and nearly made me cry during the last minutes of the movie. It should’ve gotten more awards than it got.
I like that mix of medieval with city aesthetic.
Me too 😊
Cyber-Medieval looks so cool. Like the crossbows with laser sights.
it's interesting but is there a logical reason for it? I'm not familiar with the original graphic novel. If anyone has some insight please let me know
@@volvulusx5043me too! i wanna know it too
It looks dumb AF.
I think it's really interesting how they meshed the classic medieval aesthetic from the comic with a new futuristic one. It's strangely fitting
The tech-medieval mashup was always there in some ways with the guns and super science, this just takes it to the next level, and it looks great
I'm kinda skeptical on this one. I preferred the OG style of science + medivel mixture better. This one feels a little bit too over the top. Loke they changed it so they could add smartphones and more cool kid talk.
Exactly
@@alexandersolodovnikov4840 definitely part of the reason is for smart phones and things kids are more familiar with. still, glad they kept some medieval stuff and that this works being adapted for a larger audience in general.

I am absolutely LOVING the animation of Nimona's shape-shifting, it's incredibly smooth to look at.
You can already tell they worked out their hardest to make it perfect and great
Some DNEG employees who worked on Nimona came to my school for a talk the other day, and learning how hard they worked on the movie makes me appreciate it even more!! Nimona’s rig had something like 30,000 controls on it for all her transformations it was insane LOL
This was originally going to be made by Blue Sky, but then the studio shut down and canceled the movie along with it. I'm so glad Netflix brought back this film from the dead. The animation looks so amazing, shows how much spider verse impacted the animation industry. I love the mix of medieval times and futuristic cyberpunk in this setting. I didn't finish the book as a kid, but hopefully the film can show me more than I asked for. Thank you Blue Sky.❤️
It was canceled because the movie was in development at the same time FOX was bought by Disney, and Disney doesn't like to take chances. Also it was in the middle of the pandemic ,and they couldn't figure out what to do with the studios' other properties besides Ice Age, and wanted to find ways to save money. They're not worth HALF of what they were two years ago.
And not sure if it was planned for Adventure Time since the original art seems to have that style (or just a habit copies over).
Like both that show and Bravest Warrior were popular until latter went kaput.
Reminds me more of Arcane than Spider-Verse.
Thanks for the summary of what happened. Was gonna go lookup why people were saying it was canceled.
@@Yeahyouheardme it WAS cancelled, but netflix and dneg resurrected it
TBH, this movie deserves its Annie's & Oscar's nomination, and I'm glad that this movie getting the love & recognition that it truly deserves. 👏❤

I watched this movie and I'm here to say IT WAS AMAZING! I didn't think it would be good because it's a kids movie, but I watched it because I couldn't think of anything else and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The animation is phenomenal, I LOVE the world (it's like medieval × futuristic and im here for it). It also talks about mental health and has a great message that I believe kids and adults alike need to hear. If you were thinking of watching this but unsure, WATCH IT!!!
Ill give it a try
I just know this is going to be a major hit and Chloe Moretz is just nailing the voice acting well.
She is excellente 🤩🙌
It won’t be a major hit. Hell most people won’t even know this crap woke film even came out
@@hercules2342 Can you even define woke, or are you just repeating a fancy buzz word you heard from media personalities and politicians?
I was really wanting to see this movie until you revealed Chloe Grace Moretz has something to do with it. I really hate her, and I hate she keeps picking movies to be in that I actually want to see. The last movie she did that with was The Miseducation of Cameron Post, a really important movie but I was pissed she plays the main character but I still saw it because it's an important movie everybody needs to see that shows how evil gay conversion therapy is, now she's apearing in this animated movie that I want to see. The reason why I really want to see this movie because yes I am gay like the male lead but I also agree with it's vibe, because I notice from life expereinces that the thing or person that everybody hates is usually the good thing. For example, there are some talk shows where people would boo at the so called bad person but the information I was given I feel like the so called "bad person" shouldn't be boo'd at. I almost forgot I also saw the 2019 Addams Family movie which I like but I didn't know at the time she was voicing Wednesday. I also did have interest in Shadow of the Cloud but I didn't watch it because she was in it you can tell by the trailer and I was able to control myself from not watching it, I think it's because it's a fantasy movie and not like a super important story like The Miseducation of Cameron Post. I wish she would stop doing movies I want to see.
I was okay with watching movies with her when she was little but that was before she got older and started to have these conservative sexist beliefs that I am against.
OH MY GOD I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS HER
I'M MORE EXCITED NOW!!!!
I'll be interested to see how they play some of the darker elements of this story. Ballister and the Institute being toned down aside Nimona herself had such an unapologetic, ruthless, almost sinister, side to her in the comic that I could see being toned down for a kids movie. I hope they kept it though because that unnerving shift throughout the story of just being like "Wait. What's really the deal with Nimona?" more and more was so interesting and engaging to me
Yeah. I'm hoping they kep some of the darker elements as it really set the story apart from others even more. The ending changed everything in the best possible way
I definitely agree with this. The Graphic novel was so good at showing the darker parts of Nimona and the Institute , and I’m really hoping they are able to keep that feeling for this adaptation. Nimona is one of my favorite Graphic novels, so I have pretty high expectations for this movie. So far it hasn’t disappointed, but I’m still worried the Movie won’t live up to the place the book has in my heart.
I mean they kept the fact that Ambrosius blew Ballister's arm off so I think dark moments will still be there
Knowing how big industries work they may tone darker themes down unfortunately, but I really like the lighthearted parts so it wouldn't be too much of a bad thing
The graphic novel for sure has a lot of dark themes and symbolism. Police brutality, corruption, unethical scientific experimentation etc. It would be hard to keep all of that in there, but here is hoping that they manage to keep some of what made it special, while also keeping it palatable for kids. It's certainly not going to be the graphic novel 1 to 1, but it doesn't mean it has to be bad.
Absolutely amazing movie in every way. Actual characters that aren't the cookie cutter designs forced through Hollywood, super beautiful art, funny, really fun. It has everything.
Nimona was a fundamental part of my teen years. I remember reading this comic and it changed my point of view on narratives, on characters, on society, on *everything.* This looks different from what I expected, but I know it’s going to be awesome. Nimona is my favorite animated movie ever.
One of the most uncomfortable experiences I've ever had. If you've ever wondered how a company finds out that they're going to be "dismantled," it can inadvertent and painful and ugly. I was how Blue Sky found out. I didn't realize it until I was talking to them there and it started to become obvious. I won't go into the details, but I will say every person there was incredibly nice.
The studio/offices are empty now except for the furniture and the network security gear. The ONLY other thing I noticed on my last trip was 21 office laser color printed scenes and characters pinned up across a wall for the artists to look at. Every one was from Nimona. That was all that was there to tell you it had been an animation studio.
I really loved this movie a lot. I hope one day there will be a sequel that explains more about Nimona's background before she met and befriended Gloreth and then Ballistar, as well as dealing with new villains that comes with a shocking, revelation added to her past.

Nimona is CRAZY
If I'm honest, I will give this film credit for showing that it's still possible for a film/TV concept to be brought back and seen to completion in this day and age, even if it's done through someone else (though how Netflix was able to pull this off is beyond me).
So on that point, I'll say: Here's hoping that this works out well for Netflix and everyone who's worked on the film as well as the graphic novel it's based on.
Yet, there's one thing that anyone can be certain of: Whether this film succeeds or fails (especially given who Nimona is and what she's capable of through shapeshifting), there's going to be a lot of fan art and fan fiction to come from all of this... be it safe-for work or otherwise.

Somehow I missed all news of the cast beforehand- but let me tell you I SCREAMED when I heard Eugene's voice coming out of Ambrosius!! As if I wasn't already excited enough for this movie!!!!!!
So THAT"s where he disappeared to! XD
@@zoinomiko I'm so excited to see what else he's been working on if this is the kind of stuff that's been keeping him busy!!
I went in not knowing anything about the comics and the production problems. I thought it would be a decent movie but nope, it was GREAT! The characters were charming, the animation was superb and most importantly they did queer representation justice. 10/10 ⭐
absolutely recommend the comic, it's great!
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE OSCAR NOMINATION 👏👏👏
Something tells me this is gonna be one of the best animated movies of the summer.
Honestly I'm happy we got a lot of fun animated movies in a single month.
ATSV was phenomenal.
Both this, and Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken

That hasn’t even come out yet.
@@carsfan1995 neither has this?
Amazing work by animators, spectacular quality

More like garbage work.
Blue Sky and DNEG hit a home run
I don't really like the way it looks. It looks too disney-pixar, too safe. The original comic's artstyle was a lot more unique.
This is some powerful stuff. I just finished watching it. I never thought I’d love it that much.
I went in looking for copper, and i found gold
I absolutely loved the comics, and while I can see the adaption is making some changes, I think they'll be great for both a new audience and respecting enough of the original vision for the old fans to enjoy it as well. Looking forward to this one!
Having now seen it, the movie was great!
I remember seeing ads of the graphic novel before, not if it was in Shonen Jump magazine back when it was still in print or another manga volume that had an ad for it, but I am happy that this web comic became a full fledged graphic novel and then all the way to getting a movie adaptation coming out. Any story written has the potential to make it big if it can capture the hearts and imagination of the readers and this story certainly did
This is not going to capture the hearts of the majority, because majority of people are not gay.
Watched it with my sister and both me and her loved it! Definitely a must watch movie this year.
just finished watching it and it is a masterpiece! i wasn't expecting to be pulled onto an emotional rollercoaster, but i loved every part of the way. the pacing is fast, but reasonable, and the art and animation is charming and full of character! Well done to all that was a part of making this!!
Fr, this movie was absolutely maddening to me. (In a good way) the amount of adrenaline I felt watching the climax was crazy. I felt so bad for Nimona at the end tho
Loved Nimona and that mans dynamic, animation style looks unique. AND IT LOOKS LIKE LOVERS TO ENEMIES WHICH I LOVED IT! And a small amount of sad past, cant wait to see it after how some cartoons screwed up.
I mean based off what goes on in the book they might become lovers again 👀👀 idk how they’re writing it so :P but I shall pray for the best
It is 100% lovers to enemies. And if they’re sticking close to the comics, it’s a LOT of sad past :D
Best Movie i saw in years, didnt know anything about Nimona, just watched it with my Boyfriend, we where blown away, funny, emotional, deep, amazing Charakters, amazing story, i love everything about it.
I will read the book, just because i want more, i will watch it again. Hell i love this movie.
This movie is great. The animation, voice acting, writing, humor, characters and story was amazing. Immediately a top 3 favorite movie of mine.
So hyped. I remember reading this back when it was a webcomic. This thing looks like a dream come true.
Back after watching it, unbelievable. One of a kind.
This was a movie that had a great pace that actually flushed out characters backgrounds. I understand the LGBTQ was throughout the movie. I feel this movie shows even if your different just be who are and be proud of yourself. Much like the Iron Giant, I cried believing Nimona sacrificed herself to save the kingdom. It was a beautiful action adventure love who you are movie.
when you see a long hella caption at start of the trailer. You know it's gonna be a good movie
one of the best movies ever, nd stevenson did it again. equally as good as it's graphic novel source, it's a MUST WATCH for anyone who likes found family, villains protagonists, enemies to lovers, and a good laugh
Also for those who like anarchy and incredible animation
@@uhuh9859 very true
It's more like lovers to enemies to lovers
Just finished this. Thanks Netflix for bringing it back from the dead. wonderful film
