      tbf at some point it's just muscle memory. i only have a brief understanding of what I'm doing and for the most part it's just pre memorized moves. so i disagree. it's better to just memorize them. this applies especially to f2l where memorizing a case is better for look ahead since you don't have to pay attention to the current pair and just look for another while performing an alg

    Something that really helped me with the first two algs was realizing that the first and second halves of the adjacent corner swap was just the second and first halves of the diagonal corner swap, and vice versa. If you have mnemonics to remember those two halves, you’ll have those two algorithms basically.

      Didn't get it. Please elaborate so my shiny smooth brain can get it

    • @robertyang4365
      @robertyang4365 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@knight794 No worries I gotchu.
      So in the video and the description, JPerm says this:
      Diagonal Corner Swap:
      (F R U' R' U' R U R' F') (R U R' U' R' F R F')
      Adjacent Corner Swap:
      (R U R' U' R' F) R2 (U' R' U' R U R' F')
      The adjacent corner swap can actually be rewritten as:
      Adjacent Corner Swap:
      (R U R' U' R' F R F') (F R U' R' U' R U R' F')
      which has the same result as before, except in the middle of the algorithm there's an F' and an F next to each other now, which cancel each other out anyways, leaving you with that R2.
      To clarify further, if we call the (F R U' R' U' R U R' F') part "algorithm A" and the (R U R' U' R' F R F') part "algorithm Z", then what we end up with is
      Diagonal Corner Swap:
      (F R U' R' U' R U R' F') (R U R' U' R' F R F')
      which is
      (A)(Z)
      Adjacent Corner Swap
      (R U R' U' R' F R F') (F R U' R' U' R U R' F')
      which is
      (Z)(A)
      So if you think of it as memorizing "algorithm A" and "algorithm Z", and then remember which order they go in for the corner swap scenarios, you basically have both diagonal and adjacent corner swaps memorized.
      Hope this helps!
      Disclaimer: I don't know if A and Z mean anything in cubing lingo since I'm a novice myself, I just chose them as arbitrary symbols.

    JPerm, I have returned to solving the cube after 40 years and I used your "solve the cube in 10 minutes" video to do it. Awesome technique and explanation on how to solve the cube. Your delivery and instruction is nothing short of awesome (although, occasionally you go a little fast for an old guy like me, LOL). The fact that it took (I have read), Rubik, 27 days to solve the cube he invented is incredible in an of itself. I bet he never envisioned the fact that his little toy would be so popular worldwide. Your 10 minute solve, as of this text, has 51 million views which further adds to the popularity of this little cube. My question is: Is the purpose of this video to be able to solve the cube faster? Why would you try to solve the yellow top when you could use the algorithms you taught us all, after solving the first 2 layers, to solve the cube completely? After F2L, solve for yellow cross, then edge pieces, then corner pieces, the fully solve the cube with the right trigger? Your method of instruction teaches a person to look at the cube 3 dimensionally, which is the key to solving the cube, IMO. My best time is 3:20 from start to finish which is not great but does not detract from how much fun it is to solve the cube. My cubes have stickers and one is a tactile click cube as you move from location to location and the other cube is a sticker cube which has no click in between moves but is harder to control for me when trying to solve quickly. The cube is a great brain exercise tool because it forces you to think intuitively and 3 dimensionally at the same time. Thanks for all your videos. I know you have made millions of people very happy, including me!

      @user-zj6hn4nb1m 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It does indeed make it a lot faster. With the beginner method, you would have to 1) Make the cross, 2) Align the cross by repeating an algorithm 1-2 times 3) then align the corners with an algorithm repeated 1-2 times 4) then correct each corners orientation individually which involves repeating the 2 algorithms 8 times.
      With beginner OLL + beginner PLL, you're reducing that to just 1) Make the Cross 2) Face corners up in one algorithm 3) Align the corners in one algorithm 4) Correct all 4 edges in one algorithm
      With Advances OLL + advanced PLL, you reduce that entire process to just 2 algorithms which as you can imagine is a lot faster

  • @ersulhith
    @ersulhith 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +27

    To make learning a little easier, you can get by with just two algorithms: the adjacent corner swap and either of the 3-edge rotations. You can do the diagonal corner swap by doing the adjacent corner swap twice on different sides (not opposite sides). And you can use either one or two of either 3-cycle to solve any of the edge cases (or three if you don't want to figure out which way to go). This means you can solve with only 2 algorithms. I find this to be a useful bridge, since you can't easily go back to the beginner method of solving the top if you are making use of the OLL step. The first few times I got OLL working, I then did the top with the beginner method, which unsolves the corners to solve the edges making OLL feel like a waste of time. I find that I get confused if I try to learn more than one algorithm in a day, and it is frustrating to be unable to finish without erasing the progress I have already made.

      Well normally if you're doing it in a solve that last U might be a U, U2, U' or no move at all. It just depends on where your cube was positioned before you started it. But assuming you're learning it and line it up to start anyway, that is correct.
